[X] Speak of Zeqing as a musician, and the way that your style and compositions changed from interacting with her. [More impersonal, easier to talk about. May offer some insights into music skills from introspection]

Ultimately, I think that this is the appropriate action. We want to create some common ground between us and music seems to be one of the best ways to establish common ground between someone who knows a lot about theory and someone who has really only received continual instruction from one musician.

It should be an interesting contrast between what Bao Qian knows of traditional music and what Ling Qi has practiced and learned from a spirit of the Emerald Seas.

[X] Speak of Zeqing as a person, and the insights you gained from interacting with her. [More personal, may be difficult to articulate. More open, may prompt more personal responses in turn and unpack issues regarding Hanyi.]

Bao Qian may be fond of, and professionally interested in music, but he's also trying hard to understand us, and we're hard for him to pin down. Speaking about the personality of our mentor, who shaped certain parts of our outlook and path, would help with that as much as speaking of her musical prowess might intrigue his musical interests. Plus, of the two options it's the one that more shows us making an effort to reach out to him as a person.

Oooooooooh shit. This is so tempting. There are so very many directions this could go.

First and foremost are the obvious cultivation-related insights. The one about endings being opportunities for new beginnings, Hanyi being the physical embodiment of that insight.

But more than anyone else in the Sect, Zeqing, as a mentor, cut to the heart of Ling Qi's own self. 'It is natural to want to keep friends close' says the yukionna who turned her husband into an ice revenant and Ling Qi was like 'holy shit, there is part of me exactly like you that takes pleasure in keeping Meizhen teathered to me' and that became the basis of her advanced insight - people have their own wants and needs independent of your own.

Then there's Hanyi, who innocently began the whole 'spirits are people too' dilemma by not seeing the difference between people and spirits. Who is jealous of Ling Qi's sister and so very charming but also kind of a sociopath.

These experiences are all very... fundamental to who Ling Qi is and how she interacts with the world.

But y tho? is unfortunately a very pertinent rejoinder and I'm not sure how to address it.

People want the date to go well, and yet they keep choosing the choices that keep the relationship as businesslike and impersonal as possible -_-

The Hanyi thing is actually about LQ flailing around about being a mom sister apparently.

There's an argument that keeping things casual now, especially in a public place, is the best shipping lane to sail down.

I'm leaning in that direction, gonna vote after work though.

Hmm, random other idea: @yrsillar y there no music club in Inner Sect? :cry2:

More seriously, one of the things that's becoming apparent here is that in terms of LQ's musical development an issue is that she's actually very limited in range and experience. She could benefit a lot from hanging out with other musicians, and talking about music and seeing different styles and stuff. So I was thinking: we already have sparring partners for combat - but what about something similar for music? (beyond Sixiang and Hanyi ofc)

Like, could we set up a thing where we periodically meet up with Yu Nuan and Ruan Shen and drink tea and play music and critique each other and talk about music stuff etc.? This could be a really good way to both work on our music, but also work on our social circle and socialising as well maybe? And potentially meet other music cultivators if they exist?

May the awkward continue.

Didn't we talk with our Music cultivating senior disciples during the last Cai party?

Also, I'm curious if we'll be able to meet this Grandmistress Lei he talked about. Maybe after the Sect but still.

so hear me out, I know some people see the awkwardness of the date and their immediate knee jerk reaction is "OH GOD WERE DROWNING. HURRY BACK TO SAFE TERRITORY " .... and that's fine. It's a first date between teenagers, of course its gonna be awkward as shit lol.

But part of the reason I chose the date option is becuase I want to get to know bao in a more personal way. Give us some of that delicious traumatic protagonist backstory we readers crave.

I want his character to shine a bit more, and while the music option is nice and technical it's not really that personal. And as shown in the update, ling qi isnt actually that knowledgeable about certain aspects of music. Sure it could be interesting to learn about, but I feel like that awkwardness would still cling in the air and the chapter will end with "well that was suitably awkward. Thank you for the meal. See you around" with some minor encouragement from sixiang and ling qi not really doing anything besides lamenting at how awkward it was.

Wherass the personal option will let bao get to know us a bit more. Some of our struggles and in turn the reverse may be true. It also might lead to more character development in regards to hanyi, and hell maybe some tips, we know he has a big family, I'd like to hear baos input and see how he reacts.
