Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

So, do you guys think an encounter roll is better than an exploration one? There's also the time expended to think about, since if we spend more time in the quarry we might find something good.

Well, we're too far away from the Sect for any site to be useful, but on that same token I would think it's more likely for unlooted caches to remain undisturbed by greedy teens.

I can't think of any positive result of an encounter that couldn't also happen as a result of an exploration, unless we were trying to communicate to this fine gentleman that we wanted to rid outselves of his company as quickly as possible.

Well, I was under the assumption that either way, we wouldn't be spending much time with Bao Qian. If we find it fast, we go in without him. If we're slow at it, we still don't spend time with him.

We must provide li suyin with a caramelldansen background music ASAP, she is slipping to the goth side!
I just googled this. What?

I am roughly 100% sure this will not happen given what I understand of Qi's personality and her likelihood to deviate from a plan she agreed to with a non-enemy.
I thought he had other stuff to do. Or was his stuff to do in the quarry.

Eh, I'm def's gonna do exploration roll, unless it's likely she comes across a beast that's guarding a hoard.
The kind of things that Ling Qi's luck has found...

So wait is it Bao Qian or Bao Quan? Both keep appearing pretty often.
I just googled this. What?
Ah a younger netizen I see. It was a video meme back in the late aughts. A catchy song with a silly dance that had plenty of fan animations. It was back in the era where YouTube was just for funny cat videos.

....

Dammit I'm only 23, I shouldn't be feeling this old and nostalgic.

I'm thinking that an exploration roll is more likely to result in something exploitable. An encounter roll might give an immediate payoff of the "beat it up and loot the corpse" variety, but Bao Q can probably exploit the results of an exploration roll pretty well.

We are not the only ones in the empire with such arts, but there are not many. Of course, the methods have their downsides. One must accept a sharp reduction in immediate productivity to use the Bao methods, and many prefer to go without, and simply create new sites when old ones run dry. There are always more lands to exploit after all, or so the logic goes."
Yeah, the Bao own the northern border of Emerald Seas, so they'll have the freedom to position themselves for the longview. Makes sense; their land is an entirely interior border, and so the place should be pretty safe from barbarian or bandit ruin. Stripmining-and-relocation in their situation would inevitably result in nowhere to relocate to.

"Duchess Cai is a very thorough woman, Some might say implacable even," Bao Qian replied, stroking his chin. "In recent decades, investment in the south of the province has only grown. New villages are seeing construction quite regularly, and if I can establish myself well, it should not be hard to make my fortune on prospecting contracts amidst the foothills of the wall."
And if the northern border is pretty safe, for the foreseeable future, then the southern border is in desperate need to fortify. Which serves multiple purposes for Cai Shenhua: maintaining the loyalty and economic/political ties to the southern count clans she raised; reinforcing provincial-wide ties as clans from other regions establish interests in the south; and strengthening the province's ability to resist the inevitable future barbarian invasion. All of which could contribute to her apparent overall goal of reforming the province's governance, and possibly addressing what trauma in the wake of the barbarian invasion that left her family dead and her leap to White.

He was eager. Even wanted to help her, wanted to contribute and not drag her down. Her little brothers pride, embodied by Zhen, was a much more fragile thing than it seemed
Ah! my heart! Why must be Zhengui so precious?!! I wanna give him a hug...

I think we're likely to get a long term resource in the quarry no matter what and that the exploration roll will give us something more practical in the moment. The encounter is likely going to be a spirit of some sort we will have to fight or placate for some reward while exploration results in us finding some long forgotten site of minor historic significance like a lite version of the Weilu corpse with accompanying artifact.

Characters are more interesting than inanimate objects but forgettable mini-bosses we'll never interact with again aren't fun. I'd rather roll on the less action focused option and hope the Hidden Moon guides us to some rare treasure of mysterious origins (or drugs). Maybe we'll find that this is the spot to settle our future fief if we discover a long lost remnant of an forgotten tribe's power.

"That aside, I was more curious about your intentions toward my little brother, Bao Qian."
You can't take my turtle snake to the prom. I gotta protect Zhengui's chastity.
"...I suppose I shall handle refreshments then," Du Feng said ruefully. "I hope everyone can be satisfied with mulberry tea."
Are we barbarians?
Well I guess he was the only one who thought about it so I can't be too harsh, we'll just have to rough it like the savages.

[X] Focus fully on her task of finding the quarry (Narrower search, Faster discovery time, encounter roll)

Active is more narratively interesting than passive, and the narrative is more important than strength optimization.

[X] Go with the spirit of things and survey at a relaxed pace. (Wider search, slower discovery time, exploration roll)
Quality time with Hanyi? Yes please.

For the same reason as HY, ironically:

Active is more narratively interesting than passive, but I don't want something active beyond the characters we brought to this party. I want more focus on our spirits & friends & these two new people we're getting to know; I want them to be active, not a spirit or other encounter.

I don't think an encounter here would involve us running off to do something completely unrelated alone. That would be very jarring and would completely go against the point of this arc.
