The Power(Harry Potter/The Gamer)

I have another question. If we now have Speak With Animals, is there a reason we haven't tried doing something like talk to Hedwig? In fact, I don't actually remember the spells we chose being mentioned in the update. Is it something that just hasn't come up yet, as in it might come up in the next update?

Use Magic Device is your friend.

That sounds awful 3.5-y for AD&D.

The write-in option is there for a reason. I don't think of everything, and encourage you all to come up with your own ideas of things to do. Nobody's done that yet.

I still don't know why people haven't used Mage Sight to have Harry look at himself and analyze the Sacrificial Protection, see if he can actually learn how it works and be able to use it as well as teach it to others.

How could he use it? It requires you know sacrifice. Dumbledore with his more than a century of magic experience and status as a prodigy was barely able to create the Blood Wards around No. 4 Privet Drive.

What on Earth do you expect Harry to be able to do with it?

You use the Sacrificial Protection.....by sacrificing yourself.

Not exactly a thing one would teach to others.

Edit: Ninja'd.

I'm not sure why people feel any need to take the Hot Tempered trait to practice accidental magic given we proved that while harder than it might otherwise be, we can perform accidental magic without it. It isn't as if we plan to try relying on accidental magic in the long term, with the main goal of levelling the skill being the desire to gain controlled wandless magic. Not to mention that the current level we have in the skill explicitly notes that:
You can now force accidental magic to occur, by forcing yourself to feel strongly enough. Though the results and cost vary.
Which presumably overrules the Gamer's Mind trait in the same manner Hot Tempered would except that in this case it is controlled.

Unrelated to the above:
[Woodlore lvl 10/100]

...

Class Quests Unlocked:
Complete class quests to gain more abilities or spells from that class.
...
Druid-Gain 10 levels in woodlore.
So, what would be the next class quest for druid? From the looks of things we seem to have already completed the requirement, unless it's claiming we need to gain 10 additional levels in woodlore, but if so that's not very clear.

That seems like exactly the kind of thing you would teach to not need to sacrifice yourself (since those others will sacrifice themselves for you provided proper loyalty).

We already had 10 levels in woodlore before we got DnD books so now we need to gain 10 levels in it seeing as the current ones don't count

Edit: Also is Pokemon a game at this time even if its pokemon red/blue/yellow

Sorry, but usually something needs to be mentioned before people try to act on it. In this case, the winning update included the spell Speak With Animals, but since no mention of the spells we got came up in the update I figured we just didn't have it right then. I figured the update would include Harry suddenly discovering the new spells (somehow), and that would prompt the players to try it out since we'd know for sure that he did have it.

Would you be alright if we added something like "[ X] We just learned a spell to speak to animals. Why not try it out now by speaking to Hedwig?" to our votes?

The Gemino Curse or Doubling Charm[2](Geminio) is a spell used to duplicate an object, creating an exact replica of the target entity. It can also be used to bewitch an object into multiplying repeatedly when touched, though how one would produce the latter effect is unknown.
@Halpo133 we had a discussion about this one. Would it work to copy books of the library at Hogwarts with this one and read them? I mean would you allow it.

Even if that is the case it doesn't excuse the fact we haven't used mage sight to start analyzing the protection on us. It's basically a level up freebie for Mage Sight hanging literally on our skin just by looking at it.

I have to agree. There's literally no reason we couldn't take all of five seconds to observe our hand.

Hmm... for settings, discworld is a thing at this point in time- 'The Colour of Magic' came out in 1983. Most of the wizard stuff is covered by D&D, but there are some potentially useful things in it from the Witch's side of things- mirror magic (assuming you don't mind the side effects), borrowing, delaying injuries, etc.

3.5 is extremely similar to AD&D, the differences are mostly cosmetic (Thac0 vs to hit; dots of weapon proficiency instead of specialization feat chain, etc). Although there are some significant changes. The main difference is windows 95 only came out in 1995 and home PCs were not ubiquitous for years after that, and we are still in 1991 in quest. So before 3e people had to figure out their own charOP without any discussion with like minded individuals online or the ability to easily google min max strategies.

Anyways, use magic device was in AD&D for thief and bard. although possibly more limited (its vague about any item that isn't a scroll) with some chance of backlash/failure and requiring them to be high level (level 10). This site summarizes the info:
http://wiki.cementhorizon.com/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=9076765#WhatclassescanusewhichtypesofmagicalitemsinAD&D2ndEdition?-Thief

Thief
"They are allowed to use a wide variety of magical items, weapons, and armor" (Rogue)
"Use Scrolls: At 10th level, a thief gains a limited ability to use magical and priest scrolls. A thief's understanding of magical writings is far from complete, however. The thief has a 25% chance to read the scroll incorrectly and reverse the spell's effect."
Bard
"They are allowed to use a wide variety of magical items, weapons, and armor" (Rogue)
"Upon reaching 10th level, a bard can attempt to use magical devices of written nature-- scrolls, books, etc. However, his understanding of magic is imperfect (although better than that of a thief), so there is a 15% chance that any written item he uses is read incorrectly."

Guys no matter what objects you want from a alternate universe (aside from Pokemon) just wait for Harry to develop his magic. We will be able to build everything you can possibly imagine with the right skill level in transfiguration, charms and other branches of magic.

The Harry Potter system is the most broken one. Just be patient, we didn't even get to Hogwarts yet.

We gained the levels in woodlore in the same group of books that provided us with the D&D class quests. Most likely from the D&D books given they fit with the starting quest for druids and the other books we had at the time would not make sense to provide woodlore. Also, based on the wording of the quest, we seem to have completed it, though as I noted in my earlier post it could be argued that the quest requires additional levels, however in such an event the quest should be clarified that that is the case, either saying we need 20 levels in woodlore, or that we need 10 additional levels.

Eh... I wouldn't say it's the most broken. Yes, you can do some pretty ridiculous stuff with it and for utility magic it's very hard to beat, but it does have its limitations (no food creation, using it without a wand is ridiculously difficult, etc). And for straight-up combat, it's sub-par compared to a lot of systems.

on that note can we grind Mage Sight by having it see the Sacrificial Protection on the back of our eyelids as we sleep?
