Huh, I'm slightly surprised that no-one has suggested that, since his soul will be annihilated anyways, he should offer himself to the Sirens in his last years or asked how many credits it would be worth.
1. How big would the riots be if we were to suggest that?
2. How long would it take the rest of the Trust to turn on us?
...
3. How many credits would his soul be worth? :p
No I did and I'm sure others did.

I'm fairly confident most decided it would be silly to ask, but that Geni is out of the bottle now.

Dude, that's not funny. In fact, I'm really ticked about this entire discussion. We should not ask things of Lin. In fact, if Lin asked right now to spend the rest of his days at an orphanage. There should be no discussion because we'd grant that request. Honestly, the whole "Let's make a Saint a Princeps" discussion seems more like trolling rather than a genuine discussion.

Meh, getting the last bits of use from a valuable asset about to be lost is never a bad idea.

Most ideas so far have far higher PR-cost than they would be worth, but that doesn't mean we should stop looking.

Maybe were just going to have to accept that hes just going to die one day and that only his memory will remain?

Depressing but true :(

H'okay, there's this thing called Poe's Law that seems to be in effect from one direction of this conversation or the other. I can't tell if you're joking and I can't tell if you can tell that I was joking.

Maybe were just going to have to accept that hes just going to die one day and that only his memory will remain?

Depressing but true :(

We should ask Lin how he feels about the idea of his remains being made into a relic. Within the context of Imperial culture, that was a pretty acceptable/common thing.

Sarcasm Free:
1. I couldn't tell you are joking, because similarly bad suggestions have been made in what I think was a serious manner.
2. I am not joking in the general sentiment, but find some of the suggestions going too far, still better to hear the bad ones than cut off all and get nothing more from Lin.

Please let not desecrate the remains of Saint Lin. Also please end the discussion about doing something to Saint Lin soul that way leads to Chaos.

Dude we were supposed to have accepted that since day flippin 1

No, just no.

How is that a bad thing?

He deserves a break.

If he decides he wants to be put in statis for the End Times (we might be able to do that) or what ever then sure that can happen, but let him choose what he wants to do.

Lets just cut off this discussion for this way lies heretics.

Remember WH40K humanity has very different cultural values when it comes to treatment of human remains, even relics of the Saints aside, for regular humans having, say, servoskull made out of your skull after death is seen as an honor.

And most of those people falled to Chaos. Remember that 80 percent of the imperium , falled to the Abomination, or falled to some other chaos.

Robart is a friend, though, and not only has right but even a moral obligation to discuss this topic with Lin. We can try to spend time with him and find out what options he sees, what is his opinions on it and whether there is something he'd do to prolong his life that we can help with.

And I'm certain that if he wants to he can ask without us needing to discuss his funeral arrangements.

Its not like he's shuffling off yet.

Besides what right do we have to ask him "Hey you know you're going to die right? How do you want to keep contributing after you are dead?"

That's just... I'd say cruel, but its not that... exactly.

We have had these discussion before the only things that will prolong Lin life are heretical or evil. His soul is burning out because he does not have the Emperor taking some of the burden. We have to find a warp god to help. Something Lin is against.

Sacrificing souls to power his soul is also evil and Saint Lin would not do that.

Tech wise nothing will help since his soul is what is burning out.

Wiggles hands.

There was some talk a while back about healing souls through psykerness, but I get the feeling that is so far off from where we were that there's little point fantasying.

Also on the God point I think he'd be ok with it if he could verify it as good, but well where are you going to find a "good god" in 40K?

I mean if you want we could prod the Deep One see if it's up to the task, but I get the feeling all we'd get is being eaten.

Saint Lin problem is that he does not have the power of a god backing him up. He needs well a power source or his soul will burn up like it is.

i do remember that we started talking about souls for Lin when we first found out but these was after the emperor died. So it was like 2 years ago.

There was a WoG a while ago that he is contemplating (not agreeing, but contemplating) being put in a statis chamber until we maybe find something ethical to help him live longer. I can't find it right now but overall it seems not very heretical or evil.

I remember talking about it in last year, but hey ho.

As for the God point... well, not the power of a God I don't think its quite that much.

The problem is more like bolting the power of a Beta to that of a normal human, the soul isn't meant to handle that much power without support so the last thing he needs is an additional power source.

An Alpha Plus of the age and hopefully with the intelligence (they were able to organise the wildlife apparently) to manage it... possibly.

Check about a year ago give or take, try to the use Black Crystal in the search function I'm pretty sure I asked about that at around the same time it was proposed.

I'm anyhow I think the issue to that is whether it would freeze everything or just his body, while his soul would keep on burning itself out.

The only real comparison I can think off was a Navigator who got trapped in a space hulk and put himself in statis which worked... sorta.

He survived, but he kinda mutated and daemons kept intruding on his dreams.

Problem was he couldn't tell if that was due to the Statis chamber turning off due to power black outs or not.

I suppose testing it would be simple for a normal human, but for Lin?

Edit.

And before Papa Smerf is mentioned remember, Primarch...

Eh, we he can try statis for a few month and tell us if his soul keeps on burning while in statis. The question is whether he wants to try it or not or he's still on the fence and we can play the internal tiebreaker.
He'd probably only agree to it in the future cause ya know.

Still got work to do.

If he's up to it and it works I'm all for freezing him until we can figure out how to stabilise him, but it'll paint an even larger target on our heads...

Not that we especially care, but.

@Durin
1. Is Blood of the Vanir genetic in the sense that any descendent of Syr is likely to have it?
2. Can the same be said of the Blood of the Aesir trait?
3. Would a child of a Vanir and Aesir get both?
4. Can Jane teach Syr up to Master Swords man soonish?
5. How is Syr regarded in the Trust in general? (or is this the kind of thing that an investigate is needed for?)
6. What has Olaf been up to since he was deposed?
7. (probably been asked, but if it has I can't find it) How long is Schwartz expected to live for seeing how he's mostly mechanical now?
8. Someone else suggested this (I think it was @oilworker ), but since its been a long time since the officer school was founded could Rotbart go over it and improve it?
9. How has the new engineer corps been doing since it was founded?
10. Compared to the Imperium is Syr particularly xenophobic? I mean she was born only a few years after the Quartok arrived, and Lin tutored her personally, but I can't tell from the surface.
11. Compared to when they first arrived (People as skilled as Helltroopers main military=to Helguard) how do the Quartok compare militarily now?
12. Do the Conservatives have any argument against Tranth developing a basic version of the Raider armour?
13. Should Tranth's optimiser bonus apply to upgrading the Titan? I mean its improving it, but he's not the one doing the project, but he is working on it concurrently... If that makes any sense what so ever?
14i. Do we know what Freyr's opinion on recent events (Orks, Sirens ect.) has been in regards to Avernus
14ii. In regards to Rotbart personally?
15. Have the mobile Dock/Starfort things that Muspelheim built been useful?
16. Have we put a normal human under statis (time based statis) and observed their soul to see what happens?
17. Same thing for psykers?
18. Can Jane get the blade of the tempest upgraded with Angel Steel?
19. This one is an odd one, but do we have the capabilities to create something similar too
Sinew Coils (The Steel Within) - The Primaris Space Marine's sinews are reinforced with durametallic coil-cables that can contract with incredible force, magnifying his strength as well as giving his body another layer of defence. A Primaris Space Marine can crush a man's skull in his hand, break Flak Armour to flinders, or even bite through a metal cable should the need arise. Primaris Space Marines
I obviously don't know your opinion about the Primaris space marines, but this seems like an artificial organ in the same vein as the Black Carapace, which we might be able to add? We obviously can't do the furnace or Magnificat. I feel I should clarify however, that I am not asking permission to create this augmentation just whether or not it is possible in the farflung future.
20. (Tech question again sorry) Is there a chance of finding these in the Luna ruins
Arae-Shrikes - Ancient devices of the Dark Age of Technology which twist and distort electromagnetic signals, these counterintelligence devices are considered blasphemous in principle and arcane function by the ancient Mechanicum, and persist only in the hands of the Emperor's retinue. By the use of malifica-djinn and hostile blight-code, they pervert the data-readouts of unshielded Cogitators and telemetry plotters with lying reports and malign falsehood, and what they cannot deceive, they simply blind and deafen with a shrieking multi-frequency cacophony.
Cause they seem like a weapon made specifically for anti MoI purposes?
21. Do we think we can adapt bolter ammunition into special ammo for Impaler weapons?
22. Are our Jetbikes Scimitar patterns?
23. Are our Predators Demios pattern?
24. Did we get the Angelus bolter in the trade as well? Cause fundamentally its nothing too special.
25. Does Tranth know enough about Volkite weapons that he thinks he could have a stab at making one?

Sorry for the question dump...

Omake - Shopping for a Tutor

Jane's time with Jacob was probally the happiest she's ever been in her entire life. Every second of every day was jovial and where the world itself was a much brither color. An yet Avernus was still Avernus. An eternally and around the clock lethal world where survival is given not to the weak or the foolish but to those who are BOTH strong and intelligent. Jacob had amazing insticts and an amazing sponge like mind that could soak up knowledge as well as any facts or behaviors. She had him tested thoroughly for corruption for those reasons to make sure it's not a plot of some kind (she was still the chief Arbiter afterall).

She had been teaching her alot about the way of the sword, combat, and the few social techniques that she possessed when dealing with subordinates and colleagues. But she could not always be there to whip and guide Jacob to become a true citizen of this world. He needed the tutoring of someone who knows the issues of this world personally and who could relate better to a fellow Avernite.

An so I set a meeting with Samantha Khol the Ice Queen of Avernus Spine. A woman who rules the battlefield with exceptional strategies and ruthless pragmatism. Born of a Deathworlder and an Underhive and raised in a tent in long gone Helms Deep. With years of judging characters and facial features even I couldn't read Khol...

"So you want me to tutor him? Do I look like I have time to a Babysitter Jane?"

"I know your occupation well Marshall" I stressed the titles "leaves you with little time sometimes but I feel Jacob could be a real asset for Avernus in the future." I finished courting her interests as a fellow survivor.

For her part Khol just clucked her tongue and shook her head. "I know alot of mothers who have stated the same thing Chief Arbiter but I categorically declined being someones tutor. Besides I think someone like you is more than qualified to tutor the young boy." she finished by sipping her drink. Her guards, The Frozen Remnant from the looks of them, shuffled as if getting ready to leave. At least though them I can get some kind of reading on Khol.

"Jacob's instincts are in whole league on there own. He's not a hot blooded animal though but still lacking in tools to be a real Apex Predator. He can keep on with the still training SEO's and knows military ranks and militia level strategies by heart. If you took him under your wing he'll easilly be an amazing Marshall."

"An Apex Predator? High praise from a mother and oh so original." Khol began "Talk to Marshal Hye Richards she's more of a mentoring type afterall and she did teach Syr alot about being a General and look how she turned out. A Lieutenant General who dropped her stars to become a Navy Rate and now a solid Captain in the Imperial Trust Navy. Someone like me would never be able to mentor or teach anything to anyone else."

Damnit i'm losing her...An I only have two more cards to play in this game. One is making them siblings by way of terrible upbringings and the other is her father. As an underhiver his mind is scewed into getting in trouble with gambling dens and at *taps. If everything fails I can just threaten her but that won't make her a very good mentor.

"Marshal please-"

"I have said no twice Chief."

"But he's just like you!"

Khols eyes harden at that almost immediately. It's a reaction in the normally cold exterior glacier that is the Ice Queens face.

"He lost his parents and had a hard life in the orphanage with other kids. He saw alot of his poor friends die as well as hears about there demises still to this day. I need someone as succesful like you to help guide him through life. Please!" It's not many times I get desperate. I'd never even use that word for myself or my Arbiters when asking for a budget. I hate looking weak but when you have a baby boy's future depending on you it no longer is about you. My life is now to see him grow to be a good man and I don't care about looking weak only about being strong. That is the way of a Mother. "I know you can teach him better than I can about how to be successful despite losing so much so early on. I-I" tears run through my eyes "I know he feels lost. He's starting out with less than so many other kids his age and he still lacks confidence despite what I'm giving him. If you put him in under your wing and allow him to shadow you at work then i'm sure he'll be an asset for you! He can help you Samantha!"

"That's enough!" She's clearly annoyed "What the hell do you think you know about me?" she says in a low voice and growling like a maddened prisoner about to be executed.

"But" That's ominous..

"If you really are that desperate than you'll allow for some stipulations for Chief. You are willing to make that trade aren't you?"

"What do you have in mind?"

"After conscription he'll join the Officers academy and pass wherein he'll directly transfer to my staff. If i'm going to train your kid then I should reap the fruts of that labor like a farmer on his fields. Plus I get a freebie spar with you at my leisure. I've been wanting to learn that 'Oakheart' style of the sword that's been taking root but I haven't the time what with the war and all. I'm sure you can do that for me right?"

"Of course Marshall." I say bowing my head in respects.

"Tch. I'll send an APC 3:00 at every day. Make sure he has came and ate before he gets in. Oh and one more thing..."

"Yes?"

"My dad got thrown in jail for a week for a bar brawl. Move him to 14 days total and make sure the room gets painted pink. Tel'em I say 'Get your shit together' too. Geezer keeps causing me to have to go pick him up and miss out on work." Glad I kept that card away..This work of art finds her own Father a nuisance to her.

An with that Khol leaves her Frozen Remnants half surrounding her and half filtering out to the hallways to make sure it's safe from whatever creatures may be preying on them as they leave. It's from that day forth that the Ice Queen would teach Jacob about making decisions and groom him well for military duty. When he's done with her 30 year mark i'm sure he'll be ready for a job in His Majesties Arbiters service. I have great plans for him once he's working under me...I know he'll like it.

Hey durin you missed this. I know it may not be canon but can you put it on the omake list?
