Considering that DAoT humanity built siege warfare sized conversion beamers that still manage to work just fine all the way to the 41st millennium, I believe any issues with conversion beamer tech lies entirely with the Imperium and not with the technology itself.
Yeah, the thing is @durin Nerfed DAoT tech into the ground for balance issues. I agree with you, but we have to see what he says on the matter.

Also something I am thinking about.

Warp Sextant

This massive submersion tank enhances a Navigator's ability
to safely sense the ebb and flow of the warp outside of the
vessel. A broad spectrum of sensors measures the intensities
and currents in the warp outside of the starship. This
information is then relayed safely to the Navigator so that
it can be more easily analysed and addressed. The Sextant's
array of cogitators further aids the Navigator in identifying
known routes and calculating their current stability.

Due to the histories we got Avernus is the birth place of the Navigators, thus we should find at least one of these archeotech gubbins @durin.

Unlikely to happen. However if we find a broken one + a large number of deviners + Ridcully and off Avernus we may be able to peer into the past to see how it was made.

Alternatively we find one that is intact, but **** I have given up hope on that front.
And then we become the true Imperium Secundus suck it Girlyman.

We need info about the rest of the galaxy.
We have it, Ultramar and Callamus are intact, most SM home worlds are fine ish, the rest of the imperium has gone to hell, closer to home, The Orks and Nids are going at it, the closest subsector to us has gone Abomination, and the main defensive world is still imperial and there may be SM there.

And time is moving differently which means this data may be outdated.

Maybe fit them with a null field to get them through the warp storm.
You mean a Geller field right... Forgetting how expensive those are for a second, the problem isn't the geller field it's making them all turn up in the right place which requires a navigator of which we have very few and the fact they can't enter the warp at all, second, how would we get the info back, answere we can't. The only method Humans have for long distance communication is Astropaths, we have the Neo astropaths, but at max range I think the longest range we have is 20 light years, and they have an unfortunate habit of having their heads explode.

Unless you can figure out a way of getting us a quantum entanglement communicator, we will not be doing the probes.

The Null field would make it invisible and immune to the warp.
