But the relationship with Alicent aside, I do like the idea of a Rhaenyra who's constantly sort of rattling the bars of her cage and developing this building frustration with having to follow all these rules despite being a dragonrider and heir to the throne.

In addition to the points @Susano made, Rhaenyra might be able to get away with being more of a unique warrior woman by virtue of being a Targaryen, who are held by everyone (most of all themselves) to be above the usual expectations and capabilities of a normal human and their social structures. She's the Blood of the Dragon (caps intentional), if she wants to be a knight she damn well can be.

Oh right. And since this is a time were the Targaryens had a surplus of dragons, even Targaryen daughters became dragon riders, and on the back of a dragon even a woman can be the strongest warrior - meaning, due to the dragons, there is a tradition of Targaryen female warrior dragonriders. Women like Baela Targaryen, who would go on to fight in the Dance, Rhaena Targaryen, who threatened to burn down Storm's End, Aerea Targaryen, rider of the Black Dread, the Conqueror's own dragon... and of course, most importantly, our spiritual predecessor of sorts, Rhaenys Targaryen, the Queen That Never Was. (Of the four, the two living at the time would, tellingly, both join the Blacks)

...and of course, yeah, Visenya. So going back all the way to the beginning.

Given those examples - that the warrior path closed for Targaryen women really was more a result of the dragons all dying out.

Okay first, thank you everyone, I seriously did not expect this much attention, I really appericate it. I'm going to leave the voting open another 12 hours because even if I want to start working on things this evening, I am not sure the weather here will permit that so better to play it safe.

Not really pleased with going for Alchemy, but it's way too late to try and introduce a different vote, and I prefer this plan to Hopeless Romantic.

You know what would make Alicent really gay for Rhaenyra? If she gets the benefits of crop rotation and the details of Valyrian engineering explained to her. :V

Sitting on the small council might be achievable if we have something worthwhile to say, especially since dad believes in us. Also I really like the idea of uncle finding us boring. I mean... we can still be gay even if we're in a library
