Look, being a son of a secondborn son is a bonus. Rhea gets a husband of what is probably the second most prestigeous name in the Targaryen realm, without political headaches. Of the Great Houses, Tyrell and Tully are upstarts, and in any case the North is half the realm by landmass and far away from the capital, making the Starks probably the most autonomous Great House right now, and also the one with the longest history. So, this is exactly what she has been shopping for, in a way, without getting tied up in the line of succession of another house.

Plus, it will spare Benjen some prison time down the line.

I like the idea of sending it to our father - making gifts to our father is a sign that we are beginning to stand as our own woman now, and it would be an appropriate return for his gift of an expensive dress at the beginning of the progress.

However, Alicent is two birds with one stone. It clearly IS the most romantic gesture... but at the same time, Alicent will keep in our company, so her wearing the pelt is as much a sign of our deeds t han us wearing the pelt.

E: Actually, nevermind. Gifting a shadocat pelt to a handmaiden right after "purely platonically" crowning her Queen of Beauty might be a bit too conspicuous.

The way I see it is that for Rhaenyra the pelt is a trophy for her prowess. For anyone else it's just an easily replaceable fashion statement. Alicent, Viserys and Rhea are all very prominent, very wealthy people who could trivially get something just as nice for themself if they wanted to, but Rhaenyra can't just buy a proof of her prowess the same way.

Keeping it for ourself is pretty attractive option
Having killed a Shadowcat, albeit an old and starved one (Shadowcats don't hunt humans unless starving), singlehandedly and with a sword no less rather than spear, is the sort of thing that folktales and epithets are born from
It's another notch in the belt that'll make people stop and consider Rhaenyra seriously, and a shadowskin cloak or mantle will keep that as a subtle reminder of the time she took on 9ft long murder machine in hand to paw combat and won

Plus a Shadowskin cloak would be nice to have for the visit to the Wall


Giving it to Alicent could be a nice gesture as well, a little souvenir from our trip to the North that she missed out on
Though part of me feels like hunting trophies aren't really Alicent's specific thing when it comes to gifts... need to find time to work on that poetry
Though I do wonder if there's a tradition in the North of giving your romantic partner a gift made from a beast you hunted, it feels like it'd be the sort of thing they'd be into

As long as Alicent keeps in our company, and hence is displaying the pelt in our company, it double functions as a trophy for us, too.

Though admittedly, gifting her the pelt right after "purely platonically" crowning her Queen of Beauty... well. Rhea's warning about not being totally idiotic comes to mind 🤔

There's plenty of places Alicent won't be following us into though. Battle, for one, where having the appearance of a dangerous mofo who singlehandedly killed a big predator could actually be pretty helpful.

We need to keep the pelt, it's a fantastic symbol of our skill, and an excellent conversation starter. Sure it would make a nice gift, but we can get so much more use out of it than anyone else.

The heat of battle is not exactly the place you look how well dressed your enemy is, though. And from a distance, a shadowcat cloak might not look all too different from other fur cloaks.

Still, actually, yeah, now that I think of it, it's too conspicuous to give it to Alicent.

I suppose that is true. I just feel that driving Viserys into an early grave might mean having to fight Daemon before we are ready.

Her marriage doest actually mean much poliically for us, So just embrace the Rhaenyra of it all and try and get her to marry someone she likes. also maybe the shadowcat pelt will give dad a heartattack before we eve finish the progress. or he'll get a new carpet. either or is fine for me.

I don't know about what to advise to Rhea, but giving this pelt to our Father is only going to give him extra blood pressure, give it to Alicent may be a little on the nose, and honestly, a Shadowcat cloak is quite an awesome garment...

I mean, we have actual historical examples of people wearing cloaks made out of the pelts of dangerous animals into battle. Even the term berserker is believed to have possibly derived from warriors who wore bear pelts into battle. Presumably because they thought it would make them look badass and intimidating. The Aztecs even had an entire class of elite warriors called Jaguar Warriors whom they would dress in the facsimile of a Jaguar skin.

I also like giving the pelt to Viserys because then it's a King wearing it and it will be a testament of our skills on the most important person of the continent.

Viserys dying right now is bad for us! I can't believe have to keep stressing this point, we are not ready for a war with Daemon.

We are drastically out of position and plus Daemon and Corlys are currently in cahoots, we need more time to gather allies, and (perhaps) break up team Daemon-Corlys [Yes, I still think we should marry Laenor for House Velaryon's Dragons]

sarcasm is hard to read in text oh yeah. if im being real just giving something to our dad would be good because he keeps losing relationip, and also itd just be nice to give him something from us at this point, we're very rebellious but we want to stay connected to him

I don't care who Rhea chooses, but that pelt is gonna go on our shoulders for all to see and they will know that we are a dragon whom is proud of her trophies.
 
I know she's not a great person and all but I think Johanna is a great choice for this as a sort of medieval "baby shower" gift. I also think it's an easy way to improve our relationship with a person who we're not going to get along with and who we really want on our side.

I don't mind getting Viserys a gift, we should just pick something that doesn't cause him a heart attack.

She wouldn't be Johanna Targaryen, she's still Johanna Westerling. You can't marry into the name of the royal family.
