The Dawi in Arda (Hiatus)

Don't we have a ton of empty human buildings just outside the east side of the High Pass? We can settle the Eotheod there. There's already buildings and they'll be nice and close. It'll also let them take advantage of the trade that will go through the High Pass.

Not sure what to think about so easily crossing that bar.

Or that, a thousand years and counting before the War of the Ring.
Glorfindel is familiar with plenty of great works of elder ages, he's being generous in only using the benchmark of things made after he was reborn. The majority of elves live in Mirkwood for sheer numbers. The Noldor are the fewest of the Elves left and start to diminish and go west in larger migrations after the Watchful Peace ends.

Well this one, I think, can be attributed to setting differences. LotR is a typically low-magic fantasy world with spikes of high-magic fantasy, especially as time wears on. Enchantments seem to be pretty narrow in general with wonders like the Rings being wonders because they've such broad powers.

Along with much higher pop, Warhammer Fantasy is much more magical. Magic is everywhere, gods interfere blatantly, there are weapons capable of destroying cities created by sentient ratmen, a dead toad on a disc is arguably the most powerful magician in the whole setting (Lord Kroak is best toad), and the dwarves of the setting have their own not-magic that fucks everyone else's magic in the booty. Lesser magics in WHF are the stuff you can make legends of in LotR.

I admit while I love the Dawi I am an Empire simp.

Just imagine soaring walls of stone, lined with cannons. Horsemen carrying pistols and carbines sweeping the Grobi from the field.
Mighty marching armies clad in steel dragging great cannons to blast the enemies from the field.

Just imagine an army like that coming to the aid of Gondor under the banner of the horse lords.

A potential long-term side effect of the Dwarfs dwelling in and around High Pass might butterfly away Celebrian's capture by orcs a couple hundred years from now.

If the High Pass is held by a people who are friendly with the Noldor, she'd probably go through there to get to Lorien rather than going through Caradhras.

This is secretly my favourite thing of the quest so far, and I've been sitting quietly in glee over it. Cause Celebrian deserved better.

Y'know, assuming Thorin and Company still set out the way they do before, our Hold will probably be the next step for them after Rivendell, and boy howdy would that be an interesting discussion for Bilbo, Gandalf and the company.

Quite possibly in an unchanged scenario, but that's so far in the future with an infinite number of possibilities such that I'll be downright ashamed if canon looks so alike.

We're about 770 years before the fall of Erebor. Hell, it was literally founded all of a couple of years ago. Just us making the High Pass safe on a permanent basis alone has basically butterflied the whole of canon past our arrival straight out the window.

If the Fire drake attacks Erebor simply because they have a lot of wealth, what would happen?

I assume we will never have as much wealth as Erebor, they hit the Motherload so the Drake is unlikely to attack us.

Man, Framsburg is really close to Gundabad. Have to wonder how the Eothoed managed to survive for five hundred years after the Dwarves hurt them OTL in the same area.

You underestimate the power of the High Pass. After enough time we'll basically be having all of the trade of middle earth flowing into our coffers. Combine that with good ol Dawi craftsmanship and we'll make Erebor look destitute in comparison.

At some point I want to build a properly runed bolt thrower and a custom made bolt that can be used to slay any dragons that might come for us and our wealth. something like 3 runes of penetrating on the thrower and three runes of accuracy on the bolt so there is no dodging it and it is guaranteed to bite deep.

Hmm, having one off super artillery weapons would be useful. @Warkeymon, what Runes would we put on something like the Bolt of a Bolt Thrower? Weapon Runes? Engineering? Both?

Speaking of dragons, Smaug was the last of the great fire-drakes almost 800 years from now, not necessarily right now.

And there are still plenty of other dragons, smaller or not, who would trouble the Dwarves.

Our first encounter with an attacking dragon is very unlikely to be in place of the Sack of Erebor.
