To stick with samurai thing, we could try to create a kind of bow that launches energy beams, or really strong javelin things.
That should be incorrect. Samurai DID use guns, especially in the last year of Oda Shogunate and after that. And even if I'm mistaken, the ashigaru (foot soldiers, recruited from peasants) actually did.

nah, non-mounted weaponry would require hands to use, which would mean no using the guns mounted on the arm.

Although Samurai do have those armor skirt thingies, maybe we could thick the last guns at the bottom of that? although they would probably have to be more like missile packs, to account for accuracly loss from the unstable location...
"Revolver Samurai" maybe?

"Shotgun Ninja"?

"Longbow Shogun"?

"Catapult Emperor?"
Those are good. Except maybe the ninja one, but the rest are good. I especially like Longbow Shogun.

True, but in the words of Shogun 2 Total War, "Guns bring Dishonor.....However, Dishonor is washed away by Victory."

Maybe a rapid fire rifle of some sort.....Holy Shit!

Think of this; A Jaeger, mounted on top of of platform at our camp, with a Sniper Rifle, able to give Tacit covering fire, while at the same time being able to shoot any Kaiju that Tacit can't get at the moment.

Also, if we get a ranged Jaeger, I want it to get 'Three-Level Volley' perk sometime. Because, Nobunaga's Sandan'uchi tactic is awesome, and was a brilliant invention for it's time.

Sandan'uchi is basically you get your riflemen in three lines, and they shoot in turns, so basically there's less time gap between shots. Remember, the rifles of those times were muzzle-loaded, so it took around 30 seconds to a minute to reload (if I'm remembering things right).

Not quite sure how useful a tactic designed around waves of soldiers keeping sustained fire will be with only one Jaeger :V

Oh, oh! Could a Jeager carry like a mobile artillery platform with it? Plopp it down once it get's in range for extra gun that doesn't have to be on the Jeager the whole time?

Although that might detract from the "8 cannons = Orochi the 8 headed serpent" thing...

On the one hand, we're putting way too much thought into a Jaeger we're likely not to get for quite some time yet. Especially when there's only four votes for the upcoming downtime (though that could just be that everyone else it good with the current plan and doesn't feel a need to vote).

On the other hand, there's no doubting the amusement to be had from fantasizing about Jaeger designs.

Could drop the number of cannons down to six, but what's a japanese thing associated with sis- Wait, no, six-shooters, kind of revolver, the suggested Revolver Samurai. That works.

Aight, I have a design for the new Jeager in mind!

And on the third hand, stop coming up with crazy stupid Ranged-focus jaegers. Something like Bushmaster's probably a better bet than trying a Terminal Sanction immediately.

I don't know what either of those are... This is my first Jeager quest, I only know what was in the movie.

Week 12: Downtime, Part 1
[X] Plan On a Roll (We Build This City; We Built This City; We Built This City on Dead Kaiju)
-[X] Upgrade Communications to 2 (1000 Resources) (Honestly, it's about time we upgrade this)
-[X] Upgrade Scanners to 2 (1000 Resources) (Likewise, especially with our current resources. Especially with what we keep running into)
-[X] Upgrade Research to 4 (2000 Resources) (And while we're at it...)
-[X] Build 4 Anti-Kaiju Missile Gunboats (2000 Resources) (As much as I'd prefer waiting and researching them to have modular weapons, probably better if we build these sooner rather than later)
-[X] Go Kaiju hunting - Go Hunt down Reikon
-[X] (Action held in reserve till after Reikon Fight)

(6000 Spent, 500 Remains)
The week is enthusiastic, with most of the work being spend on finally caring for the more neglected parts of the city.

The underused communications centre is finally improved, with telegraph lines being sent out and down-- especially to the airport camp.

Communications increases to 2!

The beat-up and boozed-up scanner systems are finally given a helper in the form of extra sensor buoys, watchtowers, and a new set of waterproofed electronics.

Scanners increases to 2!

Guess who's getting new equipment? That's right, it's Branch-01. Your scientists get to spend the rest of the week organizing the new stuff. Yay.

Research increases to 4!

Seattle's first naval units set out on a test swim around the bay. The seaworthy little vessels, fresh from the fabricators, trundle around the waters for about half an hour before finally docking up again.

4 Anti-Kaiju Missile Gunboats constructed!

Now with fresh time on their hands, the council decides, 'Hey, let's go out and kick that one kaiju in the ass! That'll be fun!'

And so they do.

Decide what you're bringing with you on the Reikon hunting trip, and be off. You may bring one extra unit with your carryalls. Boats aren't an option. Tacit and one squadron of Carryalls are mandatory.

Bushmaster Regent is the awesome four-armed shotgun-totin' hard-drinkin' dirty-fightin' down-under jaeger from Horizon Brave vs The World, piloted by Mattie, Maddy, and Sarge. It has a knife. And a shotgun. And at one time, a railgun. And at another time, a taser.

Terminal Sanction is the blue one with two railguns, a plasma caster, and a piston fist. It's got... what, artists? Yeah, I think it's got art dudes as pilots. Is big, slow, and the juggernaut. Also from HB.

And why is Bushmaster better than Sanction? I mean, other than being an apparent all-rounder, which are generally decent.

Because to be honest, the word "juggernaut", when applied to a ranged murderframe, just makes me like the idea more.
How bout some tanks?
I was thinking Choppers, myself. More mobile, which is important when you're going to the kaiju, rather than letting it come to you.

TS is slower, more expensive, and a kaiju with good AP behind its attacks and high Agility can just tear is apart in close range.

Also, I follow Killbes' principles; If you start focusing on heavily ranged jaegers, I make heavily ranged kaiju. And believe me, the kaiju can be pretty nasty.

Eh, fine.
I find all-rounders generally uninteresting except from a purely pragmatic perspective, but if trying to go straight to dakka murderstorms results in dakka murderstorm kaiju then that's a good reason not to go for that.

It's not the best Jaeger at doing anything. Can't grapple as well as Horizon Brave, can't melee as well as Tacit Ronin (that quest's version), can't shoot as well as Terminal Sanction, but that's because it is the next best Jaeger at every single one of those categories.

Flexibility is great when we can't always guarantee a clean engagement to our advantage.

Yeah, yeah that makes sense... Yeah, I guess I can live with the dakkaframe being jeager #3 or 4.

Focusing on jeager #2 then... Where/what exactly is Oblivion Bay, and would my proposed idea of sending another excursion there be viable, d'you think?

also, I apologize if my recent string of posts seems a little incoherent or disjointed, I'm running at about 30-ish hours awake and my mind goes weird places when I'm tired.

[X]All the choppers and the Elite tank.
The choice is easy; Ashley and Maria in Tacit Ronin, the Elite Squadron of 100-Cs, and the air force will head out to fight Reikon.

[---]

The flight is a few hours, Tacit's scanners running almost constantly to find the kaiju. Eventually, it's narrowed down, and the forces set down, in the ruins of another city. They must not have had a jaeger to defend them from the kaiju.

A low moan echoes through the ruins. Four kilometers away, a gunmetal monster steps out from the grey ruins.

Reikon.

It's humanoid, almost eerily so. Covered from head to toe in armoured carapace, it almost looks like a medieval knight. Two things jump out to bring up this point even more. Its left shoulder is thick, the armoured plates rounded out into a circular shield. Its right arm... doesn't have a hand. From the elbow down, the entire limb is only what can be described as an organic sword.

Reikon catches glimpse of the convoy, and bares its teeth in a gaping grin. Bright blue saliva dribbles down between its split jaw, its azure eyes glowing like fire.

Reikon is 40 Units from your forces.

What do you do?

ruins of a city. are there any major obstructions we should be aware of?
I'm thinking mostly stuff blocking the conventional's LoF, Jeager can probably step over most of this stuff.
