I've been watching SRW videos to see if I can get some inspiration for Ranged Weapons for Tacit but so far all I've got are skirt-mounted Cannons, Missile pods everywhere and a new Fangblade model with guns integrated.

The first two are fairly easy to imagine, but I actually have a couple ideas for how the Fang-Gunblades might work. One is for them to have a machine gun atop the Fang, while the other involves splitting the Fang in two halves and having the serve as the rails for a Railgun.

I'm not sure we want to focus too much on outfitting Tacit with range options. A secondary weapon like the shockgun I'm down for, but we shouldn't sacrifice Tacit's close-combat shredding focus in exchange.

Part of me wonders if we should see about finding a way to give Tacit realistic grapple capabilities without sacrificing the viability of the stingblades.

I'm more worried with what we can learn out of this Kaiju. I mean, so far we found the monsters of the week, then this.

Next thing we know, we'll be swarmed with Neo-heads, or even Union Flags. Besides, What we learn here could give us new options for our hypothetical third Jeager...

I want to figure out either the flying thing or the Hammerspace. Either of them would be incredible boons, but mostly the Flight. I f we can figure that out we won't have to worry about Jaeger transportation ever again, which would be a huge boon if we do start up another city. The hammerspace will let us have a grater variety of weapons available, and if we can miniaturize it enough it'd give us a gun with essentially unlimited ammo. Or it might let us effectively miniaturize other stuff by keeping most of it in another universe.

Breach Magic OP. And we're far behind the Aliens in that sort of thing.

As much as I'd love to Graham Aker the shit out of Neo-Seattle, I have more fun things for you...

Though with the technology behind Ascalon, you could hypothetically Graham Aker the shit out of the Anteverse.

Union Flag. Gundam 00. Graham's an ace pilot in the Union (basically all the Americas and Japan squished together).
The guy was such a badass he kept up with the protagonist of a Gundam show in a Mobile Suit that was essentially a tricked out Flag, the MS that was Cutting Edge during the first episode and was taken apart in seconds by a Gundam.

A.K.A. The sort of guy you want piloting a Jaeger.

With everything dying down once more, the two jaegers make their tired way back to the Shatterdome-- Jagdhund on foot, Tacit in the clamps of the Carryalls. The former is virtually unscathed, save for a little paint damage, but the latter... well, Tacit is badly in need of repairs. The pilots have circuitry scarring all along their left arms, and Ashley's cursing at anyone and everyone in earshot.

Tacit's arm is completely ruined, and its leg isn't much better. There's nothing that can be done about the wrecked fangblade except scrapping it, and the supercomposite on the left side's irreparable.

Jagdhund has sustained no damage!
Tacit Ronin's repairs will require two actions, 1650 Resources, a new piece of arm armour, and a new HF-2 Fangblade (you have 2 regulars and 1 HF-2 in your inventory) to be fully repaired!

The morale implications of this fight are quite clear in the following days. Despite Jagdhund's near-single-handed defeat of the vicious Category V, the damage Seattle's long-time protector has taken, and the lives lost in the attack, have quite clearly brought everyone down to earth once more.

Morale drops to Calm! Manufacturing bonus drops to +25%!

Additionally, Jagdhund seems far more protective of Tacit, furiously running simulation after simulation of the battle in the bay next to the beat-up jaeger. A quick look at the data feed shows several interception plans, as well as... limiter release calculations? It's not unknown that Jagdhund has some emotional capacity, but this seems... different.

New Perk gained!
- No One Messes With My Hus- I M-Mean Partner!: Once per battle, if Tacit Ronin has suffered a Minor+ Wound during the fight, Jagdhund may add a +3 bonus to any one action taken in retribution against whatever caused that damage.

All is not bad, however! For their top-notch performances during the fight, an assembled group of tankers and arty crews are given medals of honor, the ceremony immediately followed by an honoring of those who died. It is a somber and very powerful moment for the self-defense force.

Type 100-C Tank Squadron promoted to Elite!
Type-95-C Artillery Squadron promoted to Elite!

Additionally, K-Science comes back with some remarkable news after examining Ascalon's body. Not only were they able to figure out what makes the kaiju tick, they recovered the unusual sword it used!

Apparently, the kaiju ran off an internal, high-pressure nuclear reactor, which provided more than enough energy for its unusual weaponry. For ranged combat, this energy could charge photothermalelectric cells in its hands to create rapid-firing rays of heat and light, or be released in a powerful plasma blast-- though the latter was very draining on the kaiju's reserves. As seen initially, this energy could be used to power a set of... well, what were essentially atomic rocket thrusters it its back and wings, allowing for the very heavy kaiju to move incredibly fast, and fly pretty much wherever it wanted to. Theoretically, this ability could be replicated with a sufficiently powerful reactor, allowing for a jaeger to be capable of true flight!

Also of interest was its ability to Breach seemingly at will to store its weaponry. A set of complex neural circuits and PtU-Blue contact glands throughout its body are the most likely candidate for this ability, and could possibly be replicated in jaegers and other places for a similar effect.

As for the blade; it's a marvel of bio-engineering. Strong, light, and able to be wielded with extreme finesse, the Ascalon Blade exceeds most, if not all, of the melee weapons currently in Neo-Seattle. With precise enough blows, the sword can punch straight through thick armour, and tear through flesh and steel with ease. The only problems they can see are that the blade doesn't cauterise-- and likely can't be made to-- and that it relies on an extremely unusual grip that wraps the user's fingers around it, making it very impractical to use in situations when the user wouldn't have proper room to strike (such as a grapple). Still, it's more than worth keeping around.

Kaiju Stats:
SE-26-041
Ascalon
Class: Category V Kaiju
The kaiju is quite possibly the most curiously designed one yet-- semi-humanoid, with an angular, segmented body that still maintains organic curves. Its shoulders are long and spiky, mirrored by a rack of fins on its back, a pointed tail, and a jutting chest. A pair of wings are folded up on Its back, sweeping around each hip. Its head features a jutting forehead with a backwards-angled horn, a sealed beak-like mouth, and a thin visor covering its eyes.

Stats:

Ran: 2
Str: 3

Structure:
Dura: 11
Stru: 22

Perks:
- Category V: Has all the following rules:
-- Flat stun immunity
-- Universal, unbreakable AV of 2 on all locations
-- +10 to all the instant death thresholds
-- Ignores the extra effects of the first two Minor Wounds it receives. Automatically heals 1 Ongoing per round. Rolls +2 for all Ongoing.
-- Ignores "Scratch" Damage
- Superior Action: Ascalon automatically ignores 1 point of Agility Penalty it would take from any wound. Ascalon may choose to take two separate Move actions if it wishes.
- Swordmaster: As long as one of Ascalon's Blades are drawn, Ascalon may attempt to Parry any ranged attack against himself as a Free reaction.
- Aerial Ace: Ascalon can fly under its own power, and follows the rules for Flying characters when doing so.
-- Can take off as a move action or as a two point advantage move provided its durability limit has not been exceeded. When airborne, double Agility. Can not be charged while flying and melee attacks can not be made against this character. Ranged attacks are at +1 difficulty to hit the target if it moves while flying though a hit may knock the creature out of control. Each time a flying character takes a strike while flying, take a toughness test (6). If the test is passed, they keep control, if failed, they immediately crash 1d5 units away in a random direction and takes 1d10 blunt damage. If they would land on something, both characters take 2d10 blunt damage, knocked prone and immediately locked in a grapple.
-- Atomic Engine: Ascalon treats its durability as +6 higher for the purposes of taking off/flying. Once a battle, Ascalon may initiate a Charge immediately after a move action.
- Death Throes: Upon death, roll a 1d10. On a natural 10, Ascalon detonates, inflicting 3d10 Burst (0 AP, 0 DB) damage to all within 5 Units. This inflicts EMP and environmental damage as a tactical nuclear bomb to all within 15 Units. On a failure to detonate, Ascalon simply dies.

Oh yes, Graham is the pilot we'd love.

Still, the Union Flag thing was a memory on an RPG I took part in, where we got attacked by a bunch of then, and the IC reaction of the players who weren't from the 00-verse (my own chat included) was pretty much 'we're being attacked by f-ing stick figures!'

Ah, and here's the problem with the big gap we had, I've forgotten what most of our resources and research plans were.
Does anyone remember where we are in regards to having the longspear railguns be jaeger compatible?

Alright, so, my goals with this Plan:
-Repair Tacit (duh)
-J-Recycler is for more Resources
-J-Tech is to give us 2 free Jaeger Researches a turn, which ought to make it a bit easier to do both "basic" research and "pet projects".
-The 2 MPFs would give us a total of 5 Free Conventional Units each turn. This is not only to replace losses and (in my mind) try to "even out" the Conventional Forces, but also to, longer-term, help us build up to garrison a 2nd City (I am determined to try and work and plan toward this).
-I can be convinced to drop the City Defense for now, but my personal preference would be that sooner or later we work that City Stat up to 5 (I mean, I'd love the game to hit a point where all Stats can be 10, but at that point we're probably playing at the Country level, not City level.)
-7 in Scanners means that even a 1 gives us a result of 8, which ought to be enough to at least detect Kaiju that aren't stealth-focused, and gives us a good shot of making 10 or higher every Scan roll. Know Thy Enemy, and all that.
-Researching the Brains before they risk going bad, and I think it'd be helpful to understand the weird micro-Hive-Mind they had.
-Not sure how else to word the Breach action.
-I'm of a mind that a Laser/Heat weapon fits Tacit's general theme, and we like Cauterizing, and I want it chest-mounted because we're pretty melee-focused, so I don't want to clutter the hands up too much. I proposed a 3-shot system because I think @Fyrstorm is more likely to let us succeed if we're not shooting for Ultimate Turbo Death Ray right off the bat. Instead, we give the system concrete strengths and weaknesses, that gives us a more focused framework, and a better chance of success.
-I am very open to changing my Comms action, that's just all I could think of.
-We have 2 Scout Squadrons, I really wanted a couple more, and we also only have 2 Tank Squadrons, so I feel better about getting more of those, too.

Hopefully this turn can let us reorient ourselves a bit, and with 22,000 Resources (and change), we've got enough to do anything from "improve a bunch of City Stats" to "research and build a bunch of City Augments" to "make a ton of Conventional Units", etc.
Depending on how the next Turn goes we could even finally get to the point of being able to build a Jaeger. Or start on it, at least.

Hm....

@Fyrstorm , do we in Neo-Seattle/PPDC have any ideas on places we could try to go to salvage partially-wrecked Jaegers? Offhand my only thought is Oblivion Bay, which admittedly isn't horrifically far away....yet kind of is. If that's our closest prospect, is our best bet a combo of "build a ship fleet" and "bring Jaegers and Carryalls", or just "Fill the skies with Carryalls!"?

EDIT: Shifted my vote.

I had a thought. If we make a grapple Jaeger at some point, why not cover it in spikes or something so that grappling with it hurts the opponent?

Working on plan, will have it up soon...
For reference, do you have major objections with either my plan or @10ebbor10 's plan?

If you have objections on mine, I'm open to hearing them, especially if it's on the items I expressed flexibility toward.
EDIT:

Hm. Sounds like an Augment. Has potential, would probably mean a small Damage bonus applied in a successful grapple, or maybe a bonus on damage for things like Free Attacks. Or maybe that a Free Attack with basic Slam or Punch is cheaper?

[X] Plan Strange Times, Strange Measures
-[X] Clean up the mess (-500 R)
-[X] Attempt to research Breach-centric Weaponry System - Attempt to devise a means by which to take our ability to temporarily create breaches and weaponize this ability, possibly through the use of some kind of 'telefrag' effect. (SAFE RESEARCH MODE!) (Free Breach Research)
-[X] Research upgrade to IE-10 Electromagnetic Protector for increased stun/temporary strike potential. (Free Jaeger Research)
-[X] Build SH-6 Scout Chopper Squadron*2, Hellhound Squadron*1 (Free Construction Action)
-[X] Contact KRAUN (Free Comm Action)
--[X] Give them an update on our status, including ensuring they are up to date on all Kaiju's we've killed and the current status of Jagdhund, as well as telling them anything they don't know about Vulcan's Nest and the situation over there (Especially the way the alien environment has taken over).
--[X] See if they might be willing to share with us the information needed to build an ANGELnet transceiver independent of Jagdhund, if for no other reason that should we hit a worst-case scenario and loose both Jagdhund and the destruction of Neo-Seattle is imminent, we can be sure to let them know about it and try to send them all information we have in order to ensure that such a loss would not be entirely in vain.
--[X] Send them data related to our ARGES targeting system and Faraday Frame.
--[X] See if they have any information they are willing and able to share with us on the ability to create a nuclear explosive device, for the purposes of using it as part of a theorized 'Breach Buster' anti-Breach explosive device we're planning.
--[X] See if they have any information they could share on the creation of Supercell reactors capable of powering a Mk V Jaeger.
--[X] See if they have any anti-Kaiju information they can share with us that would help us kill more Kaiju.
--[X] Make clear how big a role Jagdhund played in defeating Ascalon, how helpful she has been, and how thankful we are that they have continued to allow her to operate out of Neo-Seattle, as well as going over the upgrades we've given her while she's been here; hint and suggest at the idea of letting us borrow another MkVI 'roboJaeger' as an additional reinforcement to further help us continue our fight on this side of the country and ensure we're able to keep up the fight and our research towards solving the Kaiju problem if they have one to spare or they have any operating in our area that might be able to use Neo-Seattle as a base of operations and how useful it would be to helping us help them win the war, but don't outright ask or request as much.
-[X] Repair Tacit Ronin, Re-Install HF-2 Fangblade and install Supercomposite Plate-I Armor on Left Arm and Sensors (If I'm not mistaken, we did research the ability to install this stuff on the Sensors) (-1650 Resources)
-[X] Build Jaeger Recycling Plant (-1500 R)
-[X] Upgrade Manufacturing to 9 (-4500 R)
-[X] Upgrade Population to 10 (-5000 R)
-[X] Improve: City Scanners to 7 (-3500 R)
-[X] Research Kaiju Hive Mind - Using Palisade and the Kaiju brains we have in storage, see if there is a way we might be able to 'weaponize' the Kaiju Hive Mind in some way through the Kaiju brains in our possession against future Kaiju attacks and in other Kaiju encounters in general (SAFE RESEARCH MODE!)
-[X] Research 'Breachgate' - Research gate system capable of holding open a breach between two points for an extended period of time in order to allow for their use long-distance travel as well as improving the ability to research an open breach. (SAFE RESEARCH MODE)
-[X] Build: J-Tech Lab (Research Augment) (-1000 R)

(17650 Resources Spent, 16450 Remain)

For reference, do you have major objections with either my plan or @10ebbor10 's plan?

My main issue with your plan is I think it puts too much emphasis on increasing our number of conventionals. We can't ignore them, no, but as this last fight just showed, I think it would be shortsighted and dangerous to try and take a strategy of 'victory by overwhelming numbers of little guys'. And we don't have any feasible ability to move into another city at this moment, making the idea of building up reserves for such a bad idea. And as far as laser cannons go, given that we don't have any research into that at all, I think trying to go directly for a specific weapon on that front would be better held off on until we've got 'laser cannons' or other DEW weapons actually established.

And I do think we really should be contacting KRAUN and seeing what they can give us. They're definitely ahead of us, probably in every way, we should see if they might be willing to share any information (or even resources) that would help us along.

I will note, though, that I did take at least some of the stuff you've got an included it in the current plan I'm trying to put together. If you don't like what I have, maybe we can come to an agreement on something we both like.

Also, I'm open to any idea of information we might be able to request that KRAUN share with us or data that would be good to send their way.

-Part of my thinking is that things like Resupply companies and Jumphawks count as Conventional Units. As I opined, we may end up using a lot of Jumphawks to go scavenging at Oblivion Bay.
-I think looking into using City Defense Augments to help "boost" Conventional Units has potential, which is part of why I wanted to boost Defense. It's also cheap to boost defense.
-Just to confirm, you're counting the Repair Tacit as 2 Actions? The way you have it noted it's a bit unclear (I recognize that writing "Repair Tacit Ronin" twice seems redundant, but considering how many notes and actions we have going around, it seems a good idea).
-With all that said, your plan feels pretty solid to me. Would you be willing to swap the Electromagnetic Projector J-Tech Research for something to give Tacit some at least close-to-mid-range ranged weaponry, and possibly swap the Breachgate Research action for a building a 2nd J-Tech facility (for 2 free Jaeger Research actions)? If you are, I'll toss my support behind your plan.

EDIT: Actually, either Breach action swapped for J-Tech would be okay (with the non-swapped one being the Free Breach Research).

EDIT 2, EDITING BOOGALOO!: You're already building a J-Tech! So, uh, yeah, never mind about that. Um. Would you be willing to swap one of the Breach actions for, instead, either 1 MPF, the Tacit Weapon (and then leave the Electric Projector as-is), or a Defense upgrade? Or, if not one of the Breach actions, then the Electric Projector for, instead, a weapon system for Tacit?
