Apologies for the wait. I'm just kinda busy with writing stuff.

Edit: said writing is in my sig, if anyone's interested.

[X] Deactivate TR
[X] Extract TR with Jumphawks
[X] JH uses Burst Fire against Dunwich, Emergency Overclock! (Burst is enough to catch all of them in the AoE and is less likely to run out of ammo)
[X]Heimdall & Boats Shoot Polaris
[X]Airforce retreat
[X]Wall guns overwatch the first thing to cross the line
Not a second after the order is given, Ashley slams a fist into the e-stop, severing her and Noah from the Drift! Tacit freezes up, and crashes to the ground, flat on its back.

The air force backs away as fast as possible, desperately trying to avoid being caught in the kaiju's field! The Heimdal opens fire once more, punching a spike into Dunwich's leg! The kaiju squeals, before the two gunboats open fire with their missiles, surrounding it and the others in a whirling sheet of fire!

Dunwich takes 3 Strikes! +1 Ongoing! -2 Agi!

The targeted kaiju is darkened and scarred, carbon scoring marring its body. Dunwich squeals-- and the freshly reloaded Jagdhund replies with fire.

The assault rips through the three kaiju, tearing through their bodies like paper! Dunwich goes to pieces, simply falling apart as toxic blood gushes out of its body! Jason is crippled, as several shells rip through its spinal cord, paralyzing the monster! Polaris? A swarm of shots tear the kaiju's head apart, mandibles and chitin flying everywhere! The kaiju collapses, as vital nerves in its brain are destroyed!

Dunwich takes 8 Strikes! +9 Ongoing! Torso armour destroyed! -1 Agility!
SE-26-038, "Dunwich" Defeated!
Jason takes 5 Strikes! +3 Ongoing! Jason is Paralyzed! Jason is losing stamina!
Polaris takes 6 Strikes! +3 Ongoing! Lower Jaw Destroyed! Brain Bleed! Polaris is Unconscious!

Jagdhund lowers her rifle, the barrel steaming. None of the kaiju move. The jaeger turns to Tacit Ronin, where the jumphawks are busy attaching their cables-

C-crack!

The sound comes from Polaris, pale shell frosting over. Bewildered, the forces watch, as the icy coat consumes the kaiju...

There is a flash of light.

And then thunder roars.

Polaris Detonates!
Jason's Right Arm is frozen solid!

When the light dies, the insectile kaiju is gone, leaving a starburst of ice in the water, and a kaiju that's half frozen.

Jagdhund promptly puts a bullet through Jason's head.

SE-26-036, "Polaris" Defeated!
SE-26-037, "Jason" Defeated!

Writeup incoming.

Wait wait, it had a dead man's switch incase it was rendered unconscious or died?

Welp, I get the feeling that will become standard issue in the future...

It might not be because of our tinkering it could be because most jeepers and kaiju are melee combatants so it might be to kill what killed it instead of preventing interrogation being the reason.

Week 27: Combat End
As soon as the jaeger is back in its bay, Tacit's pilots are immediately rushed to the infirmary. Retired pilots Alec and Maria show up-- the former knows how bad this can be, while the other is desperately worried about her stepsister. There's good news, and bad news.

The bad news is that the shrapnel dug into Noah's side rather deep, and there's no way he's going to be able to pilot for a while. He'll likely live, but it's not sure how long until he's fit for piloting.

Noah is Out of Action indefinitely! Each week, roll a 1d10 to see how he's doing. While he's out, Tacit may not use its Flourish Perk.

The good news is that Ashley hasn't nearly suffered as badly. The young woman will have to stay in bed and get some rest for the week, but neural damage is minimal-- in part due to the safety features of the OS, in part due to the very short amount of time she was actually piloting solo.

Ashley is good to go!
Tacit Ronin will require an Action and 50 Resources to repair!

The three kaiju-- or rather, what remains of them-- are brought in for examination.

Of Polaris, there's barely anything. Based on combat readings, K-Science suspects that the kaiju's electromagnetic field may have been coupled to its extreme cold, and resulted in the self-destruct seen after it's death/unconsciousness.

Jason seems to have a very well developed secondary brain, enough for pronounced multitasking. Based on comparisons to Tiberius, Jason has been classified as a Commander Type. Other than that, its main notability was in its fiery breath weapon, used to provide a barrier to slow attackers. Examination of its head shows an extremely potent toxin inside a set of venom sacs. While the force of the bite would be lesser, the side effects could severely hamper even mechanical opponents.

Dunwich? Extremely similar to Polyp and Twister, except without the acid-spit, with eyes, and seemingly even more optimized for melee combat. Thankfully, it was killed before it could get close enough to do this.

The corpses' impact has been minimized, thanks to Polaris's freezing detonation, and the use of the XFSP.

Kaiju Stats:
Polaris
Class: Category III Kaiju
While initially appearing like a bipedal reptilian, Polaris is actually fairly insectile, with a pair of antennae up front, bright blue compound eyes, and a lower jaw made of several mandibles. Its shell is a frosty white, with pitch black tissue between its joints.

Afterwards, Polaris may activate this for a full turn as a Full Action.
- Polarizing: Polaris deals 1d5 Ice or Electricity (its choice) to anything within 2 units of it every round.
- Containment Breach: On death, Polaris detonates in an icy blast, dealing 3d10 Ice to all within 1d5 units.

Dunwich

Dunwich is truly deserving of its name. Vaguely resembling Polyp and Twister, Dunwich is nothing more than a hundred meter tall mass of blubber and tentacles, a few ravening orange eyes growing out from around its furiously snapping beak.

Free Actions:
[ ] Clean up the mess (-520 R)
[ ] Don't.

Pick your nine actions, free Breach Research, free Jaeger Research, free Comms action, and three free land/air units.

So what're we researching this time? I forget.
I feel the same way. I do have an idea for spending money though: Upgrade Manufacturing to 8 and build another Kaiju Processing plant. It'd all be just one action and costs 8,500 Resources, but it'll pay for itself in a few turns.

For a lack of other thoughts, perhaps research more of the Gear for the next Jaeger (whenever it actually happens)? Should also upgrade both TR and JH's stats this turn since both are Mark 3s and only 15 stat points each isn;t gonna cut it against that quality of foe for much longer.

[X]Plan All Jaegers, all the Time!
-[X] Clean up the mess (-520 R)

-[X]Repair Tacit (-50 R)
-[X]Upgrade Manufacturing to 8, build 2 Kaiju Processing Plants (-9,500 R)
-[X]Research Jaeger Weapon System: Modular Missile Racks that can load different types of guided weapons. Hot-swapable, so loadout can be determined at the start of battle.
-[X]Research Smelter Augment: Consumes wreckage, old armor pieces, or outdated equipment to discount the costs of other things. Superheavy units for sure.
-[X]Upgrade TR Agilityx18 (-360R)
-[X]Upgrade TR Agilityx10 (-200R)
-[X]Upgrade TR Toughness x18 (-360R)
-[X]Upgrade JH Agilityx18 (-360R)
-[X]Research the science behind the "Barrier Shield" technology (Use Crank Token)

-[X] Continue the Research on man-made test breaches. (SAFE RESEARCH MODE!) (Free Breach Research Action)
-Research upgrade for Jaeger Conpod/Conpod armor to deflect critical damage away from critical control systems and pilots towards other surrounding areas where the damage would be less fatal, or otherwise look into ways to ensure pilot survivability in case of significant damage dealt to the conpod. (Focus is less on keeping the Jaeger itself in combat, and more on the pilots not getting killed or permanently injured.)
-[X]Contact Medford, talk to them about setting up a refueling station for our planes to extend our possible travel distance. Also send them our information on Mark 1 Jaeger construction and refits. (Free Comms Action)
-[X]Build 1 Jumphawk Squadron, 1Type 100-C Anti-Kaiju Tank Squadron, and one 1 Field Resupply Squadron. (Free Construction)

Cost: 11300 R
18,320 - 11,300= 7,020 R Remaining

@Fyrstorm The Murasame isn't listed as a Superheavy, but we still can't build one with the MPFs, right?

Explanation for the upgrades: TR lives and dies by dodging right now, so improving AGI helps it stay alive and get into battle quicker. Toughness helps it keep fighting when it can't dodge. We can upgrade Ranged next turn if the missile rack research works.

JH should be faster so it can keep up better with TR, also helps her survivability.

Barrier shield is because we all want it, Smelter Aug is because GM begged us to clear out the old armor, Missile Racks are so Tacit can have something to do when at range, and Hammertime is because I like that idea best of all the proposed Jaegers.

From the looks of things? Apparently we don't need to replace any armor, so win in that department, then?

Also important question - we have have the tech to preserve Kaiju secondary brains, but how do we choose to actually do that to a Kaiju kill during a given week?

Yay for small victories.

-[X] Research Plasmacaster Technology to increase the viable range of Plasma-based weaponry. (And also try to make them more viable as genuine range weaponry; if these work we can further focus on it in the future, maybe even see about scaling it down to make it a viable tech for our conventionals)
That's gonna be a very iffy proposition unfortunately. Plasma in-universe just isn't a very long ranged weapon unless you bottle it inside a warhead. Free plasma just dissipates too easily, as is the norm with Burst-type damage. If we wanted a long ranged DEW Plasma was the wrong route to travel down. Doubling the range is probably the best we can hope for, maaaaybe tripling on a crit, but even then it's a max range of 9 on a scatter type attack with innate accuracy penalties.

I like this, but I'm wondering if we could swap the ten agility upgrade rolls for Tacit for research of a bomber or heavy fighter. Right now, we have no fast attack aircrafts, but we have the possibility of several free air units each turn.

Random question, that I'm pretty sure hasn't been raised before, but has anyone ever suggested researching a way to apply the Arges aiming laser bonus to Jagdhund's rifle? Or I suppose Heimdal's railgun for that matter. I know its supposed to be restricted to guided munitions, but on the scale that these guns are working on, that's not exactly difficult to do.

Which also raises the question, Heimdal has a ranged stat, do we upgrade that like the jaegers? Or is it instead we research a newer better version with a higher ranged stat or what?

We can research anything. We have successfully pulled off researching 'Magic', even if it wasn't really 'magic' per say. We have all but figured out how to create our own breaches.

I am not at all yet willing to rule out the possibility of coming up with some kind of system that can create a magnetic field that sticks with the Plasma to give it some real distance or discover some kind of tweak to the plasma-generating system that keeps it together longer or some other spiffy concept to make the idea work. I am willing to look into other forms of energy weaponry later if it is confirmed that, yes, even for Pacific Rim long-ranged plasma weaponry is still mere science fiction beyond our capabilities, but for now, I'd like to play with the energy weapon tech we have and see if we can't refine it.
