Oh this is a tough one Blue Magic could be useful the idea of having a Tonberry on hand sounds hilarious and Corebot has access to the Portal Gun which can be incredibly useful I'll have to think on this one.

Edit: Ok honestly curious how much damage would a Tonberry land on an Endbringer if it actually managed to hit it?

This is a tough call. Blue Magic is certainly interesting, but it doesn't provide much benefit at this moment, and for the most part will only ever grant access to abilities our summons can already use themselves. In most cases we can probably get the same effect through weapon summoning. The ability to personally fire off spells, rather than order a creature to do so, doesn't seem like a huge deal, tactically speaking.

It isn't useless since we don't have any sort of telepathic communication ability yet, if I recall correctly, so this lets us still use some tricks if caught in a situation where we're unable to give verbal orders. Or where the creatures with the relevant abilities have already been killed. Those situations aren't too unlikely, but keep in mind this only applies to a very small subset of abilities, most of which are just assorted attack spells. High damage ranged attacks from strong creatures tend to be pretty interchangeable in terms of ultimate effect.

Looking through the whole spell list, the only significant exception I see to the rule that creatures already have these abilities is Mighty Guard, learned from Behemoth. Based on the Wiki that spell is only cast by the FF VIII version of Behemoth, not the FF IX version linked in the document. Exact effects vary from game to game, but it's a useful buffing ability that always casts at least Protect and Shell on the entire party and usually additional beneficial effects. That's potentially very valuable because it ought to boost every creature currently summoned and all allies present, but it only matters if after taking Blue Magic we happen to roll that one specific 500 point creature in the future, or burn an extremely valuable Choose One effect to grab it.

(The version of Behemoth in the Menagerie is interesting because it's a big tank monster that, in the game, automatically counters incoming physical attacks with Meteor. The FF IX version of Meteor does random-but-potentially-very-high damage and has a chance of missing, which appears intended to represent a very destructive but highly inaccurate attack. Generally not the best option for a hero. But the reactions would certainly be amusing!)

There's a few party-healing abilities on the available Blue Magic list, but no self-only buffs. Every healing ability is also usable by the creature that it comes with.

So I'm going to go with Yzarc and pick a cheap summon of marginal value in order to save points. It's possible that saving up this much won't come to anything, and we'll eventually be forced to take a bunch of 200 and 300 point summons rather than gaining something huge and consequential, but I think it's worth the risk because what we're giving up right now isn't a real game-changer.

[] 50 Frankenturret

Edit: canceling vote while I think further. Portal gun on the Core-Bot is tempting, even at the cost of 200 hard-won points.

I'll just go with this as tempting as Blue Magic is it's not immediatly useful for the moment and as much as I really want a Tonberry I kinda want to save points so I'll put Frakenturret there, though admitedly I would not mind if Corebot wins because a Portal Gun would be nice to have so he'll get a vote from me as well.

Edit: OK I'll add a vote for Blue Magic as well though I'll keep the other 2 on there.

Double Edit: Screw it I'm putting Tonberry on the vote list too love that little stabby guy too much to omit him.

Blue magic will help as we get more creatures from the FF category- of note we will have Goblin Punch, but we will also have 1000 Needles thanks to Thorne (our cactaur). As for it only giving us the abilities of creatures we already have, yes but this lets us use said abilities from 2 spots and for that matter not require us to have those summons out to use said abilities.

edit- the other aspect on waiting on grabbing blue magic until we have more creatures is we dont know when we will roll it again

I'll think about it because there are some creatures in FF where it would be worth to have Blue Magic like Behemoth with Mighty Guard or any Healers.

Tonberrys deal damage based on the number of kills you have so they are perfect to end killers. Besides Nazis, think about the amount of damage they can do to Endbringers and Shards! And Entities! Just have to line them up or grab that Chef's Knife as a harvestable resource!

@zagan
With veterinary powers can we repair the turrets?

I did consider that, but being defective is their default state so they can't be repaired. Well no that's not true they can be repaired but they don't stay repaired. They would need to be repaired each time they are summoned with new materials each time. It wouldn't be viable.

Can fully working one be built from parts?
What about that bit about them carrying small close to their body thing? Can that work as a work around for armor at least if not replacement parts?

Hmm, from an in-universe, but outsider POV it looks like the Defective Turret is meant as a training aid. How else to become a tinker then constant practice? Though, this looks weird to Thinkers everywhere.

Core-Bot and our House Elf would have incredible synergy with each other which is why I kind of want him. Olky teleporting him to certain points to make portals is so tempting.

Depends on how each teleportation method works. I can see clashes as well as the potential for learning.

For fun, I wanted to know if our last name meant anything, and here's what I found:

Urban Dictionary: crewser

A cool dude from the 1970s

A washed up ironworker who can straighten 1 inch street chokers with his bare hands! 1-1/4 inch steel braided arms that have cuts loose millions of chokers. He is the guy you don't FUCK WITH, because he is the guy that invented FUCKIN WITH! Insubordination will not be tolerated when he is around. Can slap a bitch from 600 miles away. Hung more iron than anyone has ever driven by in a single lifetime. All around good mother-fuckin Ironworker.
"Holy shit here comes the CREWSER, we better drag up now cuz he's taking all of our jobs."

Now, I understand why TT's shard might be afraid.

Wow, I didn't know all that when I choose that name. So, our heroes got an ancestor who was an ironworker, good to know.

Not quite. It's slang in reference to construction workers who set up the steel beams for buildings. It thought it was hilarious as Compendium is slowly fitting to meet the 2nd definition; job theft and all. There will be no lawbreakers on our watch, nor will we back down.

Though, there does appear to be a very, very uncommon name around the 1900's to 1910's if one trust Ancestry.com . Mostly as the last name of Women, and centered in the northern part of America. They probably not the same family, but it is curious to see this laid out.
