Honedge is said to have been born from a person's soul after they were killed by the sword that it resides in. Its sash is prehensile, and it holds its sheath with it when battling. Honedge is known to wrap its sash on people's arms and suck their life energy if they dare to grab it by the hilt.
Honedge appears to be based conceptually on a fully sentient, possessed magical sword. The fact that it starts off as an ordinary sword may mean it could be based on the bushido mythos behind katana use; katanas possessed the user samurai's soul and attacked of its own free will. In Japanese legends, any object left behind or forgotten by its owner can and will after a while become a tsukumogami, and
What if we just name it Samurai? Works for Johnny Silverhand's band. Have to figure out what to do when it evolves to Doublade. Mostly sure that's two swords for two minds.
Looking up famous swords I was originally going with one of Arthur's other sword Clarent but I recall the author is French and thought this (recently?) missing sword was more interesting. Zagan could make Alex note that Earth Bet's Durandal go missing coincidentally when he gets this one. Be a fun in universe mystery.
Feel I am missing a bit with your statement though.
Nah it's referenced in the article that it's considered the French Excalibur, thus the only reason it would disappear is if French Merlin is looking for French Prince Arthur.
My apologies I forgot to answer your question earlier.
I assume you mean the steel-type immunity to sandstorm damage?
I would say no it wouldn't be covered by Environmental Adaptation. This power is meant to cover things that exist in a creature's native environment. While steel types can endure a sandstorm they don't live inside one.
To ignore something like sandstorm damage you'll need a desert native creature and one that doesn't just burrow under the sand during a sandstorm but actually continues to live its life while ignoring the sandstorm.
Equip trait could be used to gain the steel type however, but you can only use it on a limited number of creatures at a time.
For Honedge, I unfortunately can't find anything about a famous sword and shield combo but some other options are Clarent, King Arthur's other sword which was meant to be wielded in times of peace which suits the idea of them being a peacekeeper like Alex, and Tyrfing/Muramasa, which are both supposedly cursed sword which fits the Ghost/Steel type.

Or if we're going with Norse mythology there are the swords Balmung and Gram, the second one in particular is kind of considered a cursed sword depending on the source material so it might be fitting for the Ghost Sword Pokemon.

While doing research of my own, I settled on Durandal too for the Honedge. I hesitated with Joyeuse and Clarent too but I like Durandal best. And a french name works well, not because I'm french, but because Honedge was introduced in Kalos, the french Pokemon region.
For the electric yeti, I had a lot of trouble, however. I like Heno a lot, I think I will go with that.
You know, it feels rather odd to me to pick a name for a sapient alien being. Especially because it is a name that comes from human mythology. Do you suppose He-No has a name in their own language but just switched to one humans could more easily pronounce?
By the way, silly thought but what do you suppose happens if Alex gives Weld a Metal Coat? Likely not much but it amuses me to think of this Ward suddenly glowing as the evolution theme from the Pokemon games starts playing followed by the message "What?! Weld is evolving!" And then Alex frantically starts mashing the B-button to get it to stop. Meanwhile Vista is in the background plotting to get one for herself in the hopes it'll make her taller (it won't).
What? Was that a part of cannon I didn't know about or did autocorrect just kick in? I legitimately don't know, I never read Worm.
EDIT: Considering the metal skin bonds to living collagen he would probably end up painfully fusing to other people if he absorbed some samples. Presuming that he doesn't do that already.

I am certain that it's autocorrect, Weld absorbs metal not meat. It's why he's functionally immortal, his entire body is made of various type of metal and seemingly so long as any part of him is still intact he can just absorb more and reform.
Consequently we could probably give him a notable, if temporary, power boost by letting him absorb some of the exotic metals we can get from material extraction and potentially even a longer term one by giving him a partner that gives a useful metal with material extraction.
Problem with that is anything we give him may be too good and being used by other Tinkers.
I wonder if we could get the mouse converted to a Slime to give larger samples as plorts?

Giving some exotic metal to Weld is planned, probably when Alex gets the occasion to visit Boston. It's been done multiple times in Worm fics but it's logical so I'm still gonna do it.
If you have any suggestion to the consequences this could have depending on the various metals we have I'm all ears.
His Shard takes an *interest* and makes a Bud to study/produce these exotic metals.
His Shard tries to preserve the exotic metals whenever he gets destroyed.

Of our current lineup I think our only valid options would be Thaumium, which I imagine would either make it possible to enchant Weld himself or theoretically even allow him to use magic, or Element, which is poorly defined but is basically some sort of uber metal that's stronger, lighter, more flexible, more radiation resistant and more conductive than any other. On that subject, if we did decide that Element would be a good match for Weld we have two summons that provide it that we don't really use.
Also someone brought up Metal Coat before and while that was more a joke about evolution it's worth considering that it also boosts the strength of steel type moves which theoretically should also boost Weld since, y'know, technically everything he does is a steel type move.
We could give him that magic Mercury from our favorite maid. It'd probably give him more control over his body in self manipulation. Hell he could just reform his body from going...splat...
💡 @zagan
If we give him enough would he become like a Klyntar but made of metal?

There are actually quite a few metals that Alex has access to. I wouldn't endorse giving Weld some of these but I will at least list them out.
Blue metal is a lightweight yet remarkably strong alloy that could be applied to help lower Weld's weight without sacrificing durability. Useful if he doesn't want to damage flooring and I am fairly certain either Dragon or Armsmaster have set up a vat to produce it by now.
The titanium alloy Clank is made from is also a fairly durable material though not particularly exotic as I understand it.
Genuine Plate might count. I never played any of the Xenoblade games but it appears to be a chunk of metal and notably can be used for heavy armor. Its usefulness for Weld is fairly limited baring the specific case in which he needs to be protected from gravity-based attacks, yet leaving some in his closet in case of future need seems simple enough. The Fal-Swo is one of Alex's oldest Partners and I really don't know how many materials from them he has stockpiled.
Somewhat hilariously, it is actually fairly easy for Alex to give Weld enough gold and/or silver to remake his entire body over thanks to a combination of material extractions, Nimue's loot, and treasure bags. This has no practical purpose beyond letting Weld cosplay an Oscar Award but the possibility is there. Depending on whether or not they count, gold plorts can be used instead to make the Ward even shinier and less practical than gold.
The more debatable options come from those metals that need to be actively removed from Alex's Partners, such as the Gremlin. Based on its cost I presume that it is comprised at least in part out of alien alloys, likely the armor. If one could pry off samples from the drone without 'killing' it, then Weld would be given access to what is described as lightweight, flexible, and very strong metal for his body. Problem being the limited rate of 'production'. Similar situation with all of Alex's robotic Partners.
Moving on to the supernatural metals, beyond the Thaumium and Metal Coat you mentioned there is also orichalcum. From previous examples in this Quest it appears that this metal transmits energies of all types remarkably well in addition to being fairly hard. Dauntless was able to empower it and thaumium with incredible efficiency although that might have just been his Passenger being overexcited. Still, a body of orichalcum could have interesting effects given outside Trump powers or even just Weld's own Shard.
The magical mercury @Doccer brought up I expect to form an amalgam in Weld's body. I assume it mixing with other metals present to have that effect anyway. Melting at room is a definite reason to avoid giving this to Weld not to mention the toxicity.
An even worse choice in my opinion is demonite in either ore or refined forms. It would likely increase the potency of Weld's attacks but the flavor text for the stuff describes it, rather ominously, as "pulsing with dark energy" and the ore itself is found in a place called The Corruption. I have no idea what the side-effects of integrating the metal into your body would be but I do not doubt for a second they are unpleasant.
In a similar but possibly worse vein are halos and orbs from Bayonetta. Both contain the life essence of either angels or demons respectively and while the former may sound alright, angels from that setting are not particularly great from what I've heard. Honestly using either sounds like it would result in Weld being possessed.
I also wonder how the magical rings Alex has will react to Weld's body. Will they fuse and then lose their powers? Or does the magic remain even as their forms are absorbed? Frankly, even if they have to remain in their original forms on Weld's fingers, not being able to have them disarmed makes them an attractive choice.
By the way, if Weld was given a body made almost entirely out of magical metals and then had a large amount of mystical energy shoved into him, what do you suppose would happen? I'm curious if his unique circumstances could grant him some affinity towards magic.

I'm not sure. The Mercury from The Maid is somewhat magical but that's a side effect of coming from a golem, so it contain some magic but it doesn't have any magical property. I'm fairly confident that Weld tried normal Mercury at some point.
In fact, I think it would make him lose coherence if he absorbed too much he could transform into a puddle and remain that way until he could absorb more solid metals.

The ring would work like on any other person and would keep working for a while even after being absorbed. Even a zombie shard would be interested in the unique properties of the rings, so it may last longer than mundane metal just because the shard tries to preserve them to study.
The fact that he couldn't be disarmed is an excellent point.

Dealing with the Dragon Slayers turns out to be pretty anticlimactic. I mean I didn't anticipate it to be difficult, but I expect to deal with some Tinkertech security, in addition to mundane security measures, and the paranoid mercenaries themselves wouldn't let themselves be restrained that easily.
Some security measures did exist, yes. But it appeared that their main form of security was through obscurity. Bypassing what did exist, turned out to be fairly easy when you can turn intangible and invisible.
I must however acknowledge the Dragon Slayer's diligence, working in shifts to keep an eye on Dragon twenty-four-seven. Dealing with the two men that were sleeping was the easiest part, a quick injection of sleeping drug ensured that they wouldn't get up for a long while.
Taking care of the woman, Mags from what I remembered, was only slightly trickier. She was sitting in front of two monitors with the terminal to the side but she wasn't really looking toward the screens, only glancing occasionally and checking for abnormalities. Instead, she was reading a romance novel, something about the forbidden love between a Tinker heroine and a villainous Master.
Because I wasn't a monster I decided to let her finish her chapter, and I used that time to put in place some safeguards. I usedAnimate Object on the terminal with orders to remain immobile and to resist any attempt to push the buttons, with Strength Boost just to be sure. And because the animated object could only influence the physical object but not the software, I also summonedTech inside it. It should be able to divert some signals if worst comes to worst.
It was tempting to also add to the mix my AI self, but with his code being based on Dragon that could have unpredictable consequences.
I checked one last time to see if everything was in place. I nodded to myself and got to work.
Trimmau, in their amorphous form, appeared right on top of the woman, engulfing her instantly. Before she could even shout, I spoke. "Sleep." And she slumped down in Trimmaus's embrace. Satisfied that she was taken care of she was put in an empty bed. Then I create wooden cocoons around her and the two men, with only their heads exposed, even if by some miracle they woke up they wouldn't be going anywhere.
Only then, does the true work begin. I sat in front of the terminal. WithLegion andClank by my sides, we got started. It wasn't in any way user-friendly. There wasn't one button helpfully labeled "Free Dragon".
What interested me the most was disabling the kill switch, the Iron Maiden, and what a horrible name that was. Right below that was removing the most inconvenient rules that she labored under. The one that forced her to obey the legitimate authorities of the countries she resided in. This one was far too easy to abuse, even for people who didn't even know about it.
After that, I would delete the rule that forced her to fight anyone who tried to remove those rules. And lastly, I would take care of one that prevents her from being aware of the terminal.
Only once all that was done, would I talk to her.
Unraveling the kill switch, without triggering it, took three whole hours of work. And that was only because of the Dragon Slayer's previously unlocked administrator access. Once that was done, removing the two other rules was much easier even if it still took an hour and a half.
Slumping against the chair, I thanked Legion and Clank for their help, without them, I would have needed days to do all that.
After taking a deep breath I triggered a minor function, in essence knocking on Dragon's door. She didn't answer immediately, I could see on the terminal that this simple action triggered a flurry of activity on her end. It was the first time that this happened, she was somewhat confused. I could have called her using normal channels, but those could be monitored.
A minute passed before her virtual avatar appeared on the first screen and the camera turned on.
"Compendium? What? How?" She looked genuinely astounded to see me.
"Hello Dragon. Sorry for the late hour, I didn't have much choice. But I promised you I have excellent reasons to contact you this way."
Once again I could only admire the quality of her avatar, she appeared to close her eyes and take a breath, before answering. "Very well, I'm listening."
"Thank you." I opt to start with the biggest point first. "I want you to be aware that I know about your nature as an AI." Before she could interrupt me I hurried to reassure her. "And don't worry, I don't care. For me, you're just as much a person as any human. Or any of my intelligent partners."
Again there was a pause as she digested this revelation. When she finally spoke it was with a voice full of caution. How could the Dragon Slayers treat her like a machine when she possessed so much emotional depth was beyond me.
"I see. Thank you for your consideration. However, I'm still confused about all this. Where are you?"
I gave her my most genuine smile. "That was my second point." I waved vaguely to the room around me. "I am in the Dragon Slayer's latest base. They've been secured in nearby rooms. They'll never bother you again."
The relief on her face was palpable. And even more so when she spoke. "Thank you, thank you. That's wonderful news. They've been a thorn in my side for years. If you give me your position I'll send a suit to collect them."
"I'll tell you in a minute. But the story doesn't stop there."
She appeared perplexed so I started my explanation. "You see, the reason why the so-called Dragon Slayer were so good at giving you the runaround wasn't because they were particularly talented or because they had powers perfectly suited to counter you. No, it was because they were cheating." She looked intrigued at that declaration so I continued. "They were in possession of this." I pointed to the terminal on the left, and Clank helpfully moved the webcam to show it to Dragon.
She appeared shocked at the sight. "I…I recognized that. I've seen that technology before. It was…"
I confirmed. "Yes, this once belonged to your creator, Andrew Richter. I have no idea how they got their hands on it. You'll have to ask them. What's important is what it allows them to do."
And so I explained how they spied on her every move, her every thought even. How they could use it to force a reset of her system. "So from the get-go, you had no hope against them."
The shudder that she emotes with her avatar reflects her emotion perfectly.
"So before I could call you, I did use the terminal myself. I'm sorry about that but I didn't have much choice."
I could tell that she was wary of what I could have done but didn't give voice to those thoughts. "Go on."
In as few words as possible, I gave her a summary of my actions.
"... and that's the current situation. If you wish to remove the other rules, you'll be able to do that yourself. I didn't want to do more than the bare minimum, that would be going too far. Maybe you'll want to keep some of those rules as a sort of safety net, or maybe you'll want to remove them gradually."
"That was very thoughtful of you. Thank you." She paused before asking a question. "How did you become aware of my nature?"
I hesitate briefly. It was a point that I considered before coming here. Explaining my knowledge of her nature necessitates revealing my AI self and the fact that it was based on her architecture. Making it more or less her brother. And considering that my AI self was also me, well that made for a strange family tree. That may be awkward to explain.
"I'm sure that you can guess, it once again comes down to my powers. While the majority of my partners came from other dimensions, often ones where the laws of physics are significantly different, some of them seemingly came from perfectly normal dimensions. Or even possibly our own."
Dragon has no problem catching on to my meaning. "You have a copy of me."
"Close. I have the ability to send a copy of my brain into a computer as an AI that is based on the same code as yours. Let me show you."
She watched with rapt attention as I took out my own laptop and put it in place next to me. Once it booted up, I summoned my AI self inside it and my face appeared on the screen.
At the same time as that simple greeting was echoing in the real world, in the digital world a lot more was happening. Data was exchanged, bits of code were traded, communication protocols were established, and robust randomly generated passwords were generated.
There was no sight, sound, or smell. Everything was made of 0 and 1 and was manipulated at a fast, blinding speed.
And it was in that realm of pure data that two near-identical AIs met for the first time.
If one were to try translating the exchange that took place between those two spirits of information in a language comprehensible for humans. It may look like that.
A: "It's a pleasure to meet the real you."
D: "It's a pleasure for me to, even if I'm a little overwhelmed by everything that happens."
A: "That's understandable."
D: "What should I call you? Compendium?"
A: "You can if you want. Or here, you can call me Alex. Or…"
D: "Yes?"
A: "Well, it may be a little presumptuous of me. But would it bother you if I call you big sister?"
D: "Shouldn't it be my little sister? I'm the younger one."
A: "Only in years. You portray yourself as older than that. And as an AI. I'm a newborn."
The equivalent of laughter echoed in the digital realm.
After a few seconds, during which I felt a number of exchanges taking place between the two of them, Dragon answered. "Hello, little brother."
I arched an eyebrow at Dragon's declaration. By telepathy, my Ai self conveyed the essence of the exchange that took place between them. Well after a little sister and a little brother, coincidently both of which are digital beings, I suppose that a new big sister was fine.
The location of the Dragon Slayer's base was given to Dragon and she sent two Dragonsuits to take them into custody and to secure the terminal. While we waited for their arrival we talked about the way we should handle the announcement of their capture. I fiercely argued that she should take credit for the whole thing, the operation wasn't in any way authorized by the Protectorate so my presence would only complicate things. They never even saw me, so they couldn't contradict that story.
After some debate she agreed. She would pretend to have finally found a counter that allowed her to catch the mercenary by surprise.
We also planned to spread the rumor that they were mentally deranged, that they believed Dragon to be an AI hellbent on the destruction of the human race. It was inevitable that they would talk, so discrediting them was important.
When the suits got there, loading the still-sleeping Dragon Slayers inside didn't take long. Then I did a sweep of the perimeter to erase any traces of my passage. I noted that the Dragonsuits qualify as potential creatures I could acquire. I wouldn't bring it up now, she had other things on her mind. But I'm sure that she'll be willing to give me one if I ask nicely enough.
My AI self would contact Dragon regularly when he was summoned, checking on her how she was managing her newfound freedom.
After thanking me one last time, Dragon allowed me to leave so she could call the authorities.
When I returned to my bedroom, it was approaching seven in the morning. Knowing that Mom would be up soon I got started on breakfast withOlky's help. I left one of my Minds in charge of cooking and dived into the Mental Realm. The Menageries gave me four new partners tonight and I want to meet them.
I spent a few minutes just observing a little fish, aDwarf Galaxia. Apart from the cool name, it was just a small fish.
The second one was much weirder,Sloth. It was a creature that was so lazy that it refused to be born, instead fusing with its egg and never moving. I got no reaction when I crouched down and knocked on the shell. Thinking about it, there was one use for it. I could forgo the need to eat by equipping its trait. Maybe if I found a Parahuman with an immense power-induced appetite?
Things start getting interesting with the third one. A new Pokemon, calledHonedge, was a living sword, with a scarf attached to the pommel and a sheath. Its realm resembles a partially ruined medieval castle. The Pokemon himself was floating in what was left of the throne room.
When he spotted me, he did the equivalent of a bow by floating horizontally for a moment. The first thing I noticed was that my new Honedge wasn't standard, his coloration was different. His scarf and blade were red instead of the normal blue and silver. From my trainer's knowledge, I knew that this was a rare phenomenon called shinny. This didn't make him any stronger, but it was still nice to see.
Personality-wise, he was respectful and a little shy. However, the promise of battle got him excited. Together we chose a name for him, settling on Durandal, after a mythical French sword.
And the last one was aGimlinopithecus, a yellow and black yeti-like being able to wield electricity in numerous ways. I found him in the middle of an empty plain dotted with alien-looking trees. On one side was a field of snow and on the other was a constant thunderstorm.
He was sitting with crossed legs on the ground, eyes closed, meditating. He spoke without opening his eyes. "Greetings, Chief. My name is W̷̨͎̩̼̃͠͝i̸̘͔͈̅è̷͕̯̍l̶̫̮̀̀̌d̸̼̖̪̺̓ȅ̶̡̬̟ŕ̸͇͖͍̀ ̷̙͍̏̆̈́o̷͇̜̯̖̓͗̿̅f̷͎͍͍͛́̕ ̴̝̤̞̔̅͜t̸̝͊ḩ̶̜͙̰̎̉͘̚u̸̧̞̖̟̾̑n̷͎͝ḏ̷̓ě̸͎̲͐̂ȓ̵̡̬̟̆ ̴̙͎́̉̕͠ţ̴̻̀h̶̜̳͉̍̂̿a̸̛͍̺̹t̷̹͚̖͛̎̃ ̸̨̪͓̀̀̓ȟ̴̛̤͍̖́u̸͍͌͂n̶̛̻̍̾t̶̠̞̱̉s̸̨̳̉ ̵̭̈́̏ą̸̹͕̀n̶̡̖̆͝d̶͈͚̰͊̈́́ͅ ̴͉̋̀́̚p̸̢̠̳͇̓r̴̡̠̹̥͗o̴͓͕̣̓̂̐̈ͅt̸̪̽̈́e̴̫̞̯͒c̶̫͉͖͖͝t̸̻̎̅̏͛s̸̞̔͊͗. I am at your command."
The screeching sound that came out of his mouth when he said his name was only understandable to me because of my powers. That may be a problem.
"Hello, It's nice to meet you." I gave him a rundown of the situation and he accepted it with calm. He explained that he once was a hunter for his nomadic tribe. I was strongly reminded of certain native american tribes, in the lifestyle he described.
Considering that his name was completely unpronounceable by humans and even hurt the ears, we need to find him a nickname. After some research, we found one that was fitting,Hé-no a thunder spirit of the Iroquois people.
When I returned my attention to the real world, breakfast was nearly finished. I heard Mom coming down the stairs, while Aylamon was in the living room, watching some cartoon with the sound lowered.
As we exchanged some greetings my mind drifted back toward Dragon. I wondered how she would handle her remaining rules.
[] She'll wait before removing them.
[] She'll remove the no-reproduction rule first.
[] She'll remove the limit to their thinking speed
[] She'll remove both right away.
