... One sec while I translate that Binary there.

Oof, I was worried this would be the cost though.

EDIT: Translation Acquired!

Sing. Sing of the Fleet's Spirits of your defiance! Sing of your might against the Warp! Sing of what it means to oppose the Emperor-and-Omnissiah!

[] Let The Spirits Of The Machine Aid Our Voices

Seems like the proper play here. We're not going to turn people into an expendable resource if we can avoid it.

It might be a high cost, but I think it'll only need to be per-fleet in this sense. It'd be a natural role for a Fleet Expeditionary Leader to have this kind of function.

Anyway, that aside took a bit of digging, but here's what a Void Abacus does, according to FFG Rogue Trader at least.

VOID ABACUS
While the search for priceless archeotech is one of the most
profitable endeavours a Rogue Trader can undertake, there
are those who dedicate their lives to the suppression and
elimination of many wondrous items from the Dark Age of
Technology. One such item sought after by both camps is
the Void Abacus, most famously unearthed on the cursed
Munitorum planet of Soloman in the Markayn Marches but
also recovered in the bowels of many an ancient hive spire
or nameless space hulk. For these can do something very
valuable indeed—when integrated into a ship's auspex and
propulsion systems they can allow a ship to make accurate
void jumps four or five times longer than normal without
a Navigator's aid. This allows many more types of ships to
travel safely, something the Navigator's Guild cannot allow.
While the Guild cannot directly outlaw their use, they can
act to buy, destroy, or sabotage any and all they can find.
That they will arrange for the same fate to befall to any vessel
found using one is an open secret as well. Having an Abacus
networked into a ship's systems allows the crew to safely plot
warp jumps of up to 5-10 days in duration with an Ordinary
(+10) Navigation Test.

Broadly, what this does is allow you to do short range Warp Jumps and actually get to roll Navigation Tests on it, when by default you basically hop in and hope the current takes you where you need to be. Navigators absolutely hate this to shit because even though they don't have the manpower to man every single ship that needs to travel the void lanes, even allowing basic, Subsector scale travel to be something that doesn't require their blessing and active support is something they fundamentally cannot allow, so they aggressively suppress its existence whenever it shows up.

That aside, I get the impression that the new Component does still use low level Psykers, but it takes enough of the load off that we're not burning them out. But in exchange, it costs us precious DP to set up that way. Hopefully there's a version that can just transmit the group to a fleet so we can build a dedicated Fleet Leader ship to carry that, but we'll see.

i can only hope we find a Void Abacus soon enough, even a damaged one to help with our navigation...sucks that a choir is needed for every dang ship, but thats a heck of a price to pay.

maybe one day we can have the machine spirits, the chior, and a void abacus sing together to plot our navigational duties.

We are not the imperium. People are not tools and numbers, not to us, not here. There will be sacrifices and tragedies, to be sure. But they will be sacrifices and tragedies, not cold blooded feeding of souls to the grinder for no other reason than expediency. And certainly not when doing so would condemn those who die to the perils of the immaterium, and the attentions of the Four. That is simply not acceptable.

Also, we can potentially build a ship class designed around having a choir on it, packed with all kinds of psy-amplifiers and control mechanisms. That'd be really useful and on brand.

Once we get more Psy-tech of course.

Hm...well, I would agree that the Machine Spirit option is preferable, but it's gonna suck if we have to apply the thing to all of our ships, which is 100% a possibility, people. If that is the case, at the very least it shouldn't be more than 2 DP, but on the flip-side then we won't be able to use the Aries-Scecundus class for expeditionary fleets because we can't redesign it without a Faith Crit or else lose the Faith Weapons it mounts.

Cooky, if we did go with the 'Navigational Choirs' made up of less-capable psykers, would we be at risk of 'running out' of candidates for our Navigational Choirs if we are doing large amounts of movement? Or is the rate of attrition slow enough that it won't be a problem?

I wonder if a higher level of this song could allow for multiple ships per choir?

While our Melodies and Songs aren't leveled per-say, our Melodies are tiered. HeroCooky has also mentioned that by raising the tiers of our Melodies we can strengthen our Songs.

So if went and raised the rest of our Melodies for this song to tier II we could boost the strength and range of the Song (I think).

Fingers are crossed that it's a "One ship per fleet" thing, because I could build a dedicated Fleet Leader vessel on a Heavy Cruiser that uses this for projecting power, but like, Scouts? How does this help our Scouts?

That being said, if it'll take another 5+ actions to get this thing to something useful even at our scale...

You could have gotten them at the start of the Quest.

You chose chocolate instead. :V

You would use the less-powerful psykers that wouldn't be joined in a Choir for the Song. You have several thousands of those around.

Totally worth it. One dreads to live in a galaxy where we would never have tasted the sweet taste of chocolate!

Though speaking of choices, what's going on with those Sphinx Administrators? I don't think we've heard anything about them since and I'd like to know how they're affecting us.

How does this help our Scouts?

Honestly our Scouts are the thing I'm least worries about. They at least have like 6 spare DP plus every other design point we've gained for Destroyers since their design floating around in there, so we can just slap on the Machine Spirit Boosters into them.

Tho if we are redesigning all of our ships, then I feel like we should slap on Enhanced Supply Generation onto our Scouts to see if that will enhance our scouting-range.

My gut feeling is that the Machine Spirit Boosters will act like a sort of 'link system', allowing a single Choir to link together all the ships in with the system in a task force into a 'single entity' that the Song will apply to.

Using lesser psykers as disposable cartridge or breaker's in a switch board is just not our style. DP cost will suck but, But it once again reinforces, We don't play like that Damn it. We will be Better if we can.

They get paperwork done…my god the star child has looked at the emperor's mess of an empire and said "yeah no", and had created these beings to help give some measure of prevention!!! Truly we are blessed!

Hmmm I truly hope we can get the song of the machine spirits done soon enough…I just also hope we can figure out how to sing through the warp and figure out non-warp com's as well…even if it's only useable on a sector level at max it still would do us wonders.

...um, so Y'all might wanna go check the updated Maps. Turns out we've got another polity called the Protectorate of Neon in the Amratur Subsector, and the fleet power for the local Eldar and Imperials in Voxx Prime have been revealed-they are (approximately) Eight Times and Four Times stronger than our entire navy, respectively.

I think that there might indeed be a Craftworld in Lone Wave, and not 'just' a Maiden World.
