I also can't really see business investments working. The fundamental issue is workers own businesses in Germany. If Britain or France wanted to do business in Germany their capitalists wouldn't be allowed to own anything. If an investor from London wanted to purchase a steel mill in the Ruhr, well he can't. The worker's own it. He'd need to directly work in it someway to receive profits from it. He could possibly hire people to go work in Germany for him, but then they'd receive equal wages like any other worker and thus not have any incentive to send 90% of their paycheque back to their boss.
If we do alter the laws to allow foreign businesses to operate in Germany then they'd carve out a niche exception for themselves. It wouldn't look good to say workers own the means of production, except ones we dislike enough to direct towards working for pennies in some British or France owned enterprise.

The peace Heinrich had sought during the war tasted of ash.
His family home was now forever gone, burned down during the assault on the "Hero-city," the fact that even if it did still stand he wouldn't be welcome inside scarcely eased his longing for a time gone by.
The thought of Dresden dregs up memories unbidden from within the depths of his mind.
When the war had first erupted countrywide Heinrich had been the first of his group of like minded friends to join the local Landwehr led by Citizen-General Dillinger. A less ideologically driven man would perhaps be ashamed by how proud he had been of that fact, but Heinrich was and still is a Jacobin at heart.
Nothing would take that from him, liberty or death were the only options Heirnrich believed in and that hasn't changed in the three years since.
He remembers his father, the avowed monarchist he was, beating him upon his impromptu announcement during dinner one night. The memory brings with it a ghost like pain sprouting from his chest, his father had been a good man during Heinrich's youth, it had hurt to see him so turned against his only son.
In the end, of his group of nine friends only six survived the first battle of Dresden.
Only two made it out of the second alive, and only Heinrich had made it to Erfurt.
Where Dresden brought up memories of hopeless heroism and lost family, Erfurt only echoed in his mind as a desperate fight and a deafening explosion. But that described the whole war though, just one long desperate fight and many deafening explosions. His fellows were not well trained like the coalition's forces nor were they as varied and well equipped as the Socialist's had been.
Despite all that they had the will to keep fighting, when Dresden fell they kept fighting, when Erfurt blew they kept fighting, in the depths of the red winter they had kept fighting despite freezing conditions. Even now, after it was all over his fellows continued the fight in Frankfurt, only now they fought with words instead of bullets.
It was important to remember that the tree of liberty was fed with the blood of patriots just as much as it was with the blood of tyrants. On some of his worse days he almost wished he had been the one to feed it instead of his friends and comrades.
So now Heinrich sat on a park bench under an elm tree in the slowly recovering ruins of Dresden with no friends, family, or home.
He always came here after working all day with his crew of salvagers, a strong bunch if there ever were. They were all veterans like him, mostly Dresden born Jacobins, and a small but growing number of Marxist-Jacobins, there was also one Vanguardist in the crew who had moved to the city post war.
As far as Heinrich was concerned as long as they weren't Monarchists he would welcome them with open arms, a socialist's liberty was not so different from a republican's in the end.
He chose this particular bench in this specific park for one reason, this park had a flag pole with a flag flying high.
It was that flag that reminded him why he fought, he didn't know how he felt about the new government, it had only been three years after all and it would take time for the tyrants to come, but he knew exactly how he felt about that flag.
Pride, he had fought for peace and despite all its hardships and concessions he and his fellows had won and in the end Heinrich was on that flag.
Heinrich wasn't a farmer, never had been, and he may have also been a piss poor worker compared to some.
But he was a damn good soldier, and though he no longer fought with bullets he will still be a soldier until the day he personally feeds the tree of liberty

As a weakened economy, we should not try to open up completely to the big markets of France and the United Kingdom. However, new smaller markets can be an opportunity, either for directs returns or to see how truly free are we to invest our resources in the world. And we aren't putting our workers at risk in the process!
