Gotta catch 'em all!
You want us to run away from the final boss of the game.
Golden Ending requires that those people be happy about being 'saved,' which means we can't just drag them over to some other place while Walpurgisnacht attacks Mitakihara. Setting aside the fact that they're all going to want to defend their homes, you're also going to have to deal with the fact that they aren't going to be happy unless you also save everyone/everything they care about. There's no real way to do that without beating Walpurgisnacht. Kyouko is the only one who might be willing to simply stand aside if convinced of Walpurgisnacht's superiority, and even then it's unlikely.-In my view, it would count as a victory for Renascene!Homura (whose characterisation is a bit different from Canon!Homura's in many ways) if she could save Madoka, Sayaka, Kyoko, Mami, and herself. Those are her precious people, after all.
If the argument is fallacious, don't expect it to work.-Stage 1: Reveal Walpurgisnacht (somehow) to Sayaka Miki and persuade her of it's ungodly power. Talk of it as a hopeless threat which can't be beaten. Use this to insist on evacuating as many of those precious to her as possible. In practice this means only those who can be shown the Magical Girl's world, meaning Madoka. For a precedent, appeal to how rescue workers as a matter of procedure evacuate their families first so they can fight without worry (fallacious in several respects, but we don't care here).
Kyubey can phase through walls.-Stage 1(Backup): Kidnap Madoka, put her in a safe bunker where Kyubey can't get to her
... Yeah, even if Homura were willing to do that, no one here is going to support that action.-Stage 2: Use some sort of drug such that Madoka will be 100% unconscious for the duration of the Walpurgisnacht crisis. Kyubey can't contract Madoka in such a state.
Almost certainly not going to work. You'd have a better chance at disabling them via Soul Gem theft and dragging them away by force.-Stage 3: Mami, Kyoko, and Sayaka don't stand a chance against Walpurgisnacht. Rush in, try to help them stay alive for a bit. Then, backed by Akemi Madness, talk them into retreating.
I don't think you understand what "Happy Ending" means.
You may think that - good luck convincing Homura of that, or anyone else in this thread.1- This may be Renascene!Homura, but it's still Homura. I think she cares far more for these people being alive than their happiness.
Age doesn't matter.
1) Whether she recognizes the fallacies is actually irrelevant, because you have to convince her that her line of thought is incorrect, and doing that without tripping yourself up because you're using fallacies is incredibly difficult. She won't realise the fallacies in the argument. If you can't see them without a bit of thought, how could she?
3- Minor amendment then. Keep Madoka unconscious the entire time. It's for her own good, after all.
... Madoka would never commit a suidical action. Spelling error aside, prevention via explanation is a far safer option.4- I can't see any logical reason why not! We're trying to save Madoka from an action that is suidical. Precedent for this stuff comes with how people who try to commit suicide are usually treated.
She's a defender personality type. She isn't going to walk away from the people here as long as she can continue to fight. The last sentence is just begging for her to break down and either attack Homura or Grief Spiral.-Mami is an experienced warrior, bar one critical screw-up. She isn't rash like Kyoko, nor in the Moron Mode Madoka triggered in canon. The argument is logical. No Point trying to defend people you can't defend, when you could fight Witches elsewhere and save hundreds of lives! In addition, ask if she really wants to get both Sayaka and Kyoko killed.
You should probably read up on Renascence Canon:-If Mami is pulling back, she can get through to Kyoko. Kyoko has no motive for fighting Walpurgisnacht once Mami herself is pulling back. We can ask what happened to fighting only for herself, and ask if she's going to prove herself a complete hypocrite.
With her personality traits as given, she won't pull back at all.Kyouko Memory Access said:If Kyouko is alive on Walpurgis Night, she will fight it. Even if she is neither spoken to nor sought out, she will appear to protect the home town that she and Mami share. She will not hesitate to die in the process, so preparing her for it is for the best.
Good luck convincing anyone else.6- I think it's close enough. After all, compared to canon nothing is a Golden ending when we consider how many magical girls Madoka must have saved.
SynchronisedWritersBlock- First off, I don't think that could be on an ICly realistic Homura's priority list. Whatever you think about the ending of Rebellion, Homura showed she was perfectly willing to become a Witch just to prevent the chance of Kyubey getting at Madoka.
Nothing less will do, I'm afraid, so don't hold back; save everyone and give them the happy endings they deserve.
Dropping the witchbomb is a bad idea in general. Per the memory unlocks Sayaka will put herself in danger trying to save witches once she finds out. In canon Madoka contracts despite knowing the truth about witches and megucas so it stands to reason she would do so here if she thought it necessary. Plus as we all know witchbombing Mami tends to result in Tetris.
Or that she knows what happened with Kyouko's wish and wants to avoid inflicting similar pain on others. Remember Mami in canon is actively working to get Madoka and Sayaka to contract she just wants to make sure they don't come to regret their wishes and leave her.Mami may have ideals as a Magical Girl, but they are tempered by practical realities. If she were a naive Defender type, she wouldn't have recommended against Sayaka's selfless wish so insightfully.
Sure, that's an acceptable interpretation of canon. Here's why you're wrong, though:
This is a quest. We have specific objectives. Ruining ourselves and PTSDing our friends won't achieve them.
Given her characterization up tot his point, you would appear to be wrong.1- Might I remind you that Homura has been worn down by hundreds of timelines in the Renasacene universe? By now, I figure she'd just be sick of it all.
Age has absolutely nothing to do with it. Naïveté is not something that simply "goes away" as you get older. Her experiences with magical girls led her to assume that things worked a particular way - that she did not know just how completely different things actually were is not a mark against her.2- She's 14. She makes what for an adult would be the unforgivably stupid mistake of assuming, even implicitly, that a Magical Girl show reflects reality just because Magical Girls exist. Without a very strong case against, that's evidence enough.
Michael Kearny and Adragon De Mello disagree.3- Are you listening to yourself? Of course age matters! Sayaka Miki is not likely to know the details of how rescue workers in natural disasters operate (which, BTW, confirm my story). She is also not likely to have the mental processing to realise that Magical Girls are in a very different situation from rescue workers and formulate a counter-argument.
To which she replies, "Why should my family and friends be the only ones to be saved? If we know this is coming, we should make sure everyone gets out safely." And if you try to explain that there is some external reason preventing them from saving everyone, she's very likely to argue against removing only her family and friends because a real "Defender of Justice" is going to make sure everyone makes it through.
"It's for her own good" is not happy ending material. You have almost literally said "I'm actually the villain."5- I don't understand the facepalm. My plan makes perfect sense!
Because trust is something that can never be built, right?6- I wanted to explain earlier, but everybody was dragging their feet so much I came to the conclusion we'd never get around to it. Plus- if we can't WitchBomb Miki Sayaka, how are we supposed to explain the WitchBomb to Madoka Kaname? We have no proof, after all.
So you agree that Mami is more likely to put herself between the civilians and Walpurgisnacht if she can't protect everyone any other way. Glad to see we're on the same page.7- Mami may have ideals as a Magical Girl, but they are tempered by practical realities. If she were a naive Defender type, she wouldn't have recommended against Sayaka's selfless wish so insightfully. In Oriko, she recognised she couldn't protect everyone so rather than try she went straight for the source- the Witch.
Or if Mami pulls back, Kyouko feels betrayed and either throws herself at Walpurgisnacht in hopes of rekindling the spark of 'good' in Mami that has apparently left her, or she feels betrayed and Grief Spirals.8- If Mami pulls back, that should have a big influence on Kyoko. Regardless of what she tells herself, her real motive for being there is her ties to Mami Tomoe. We then play on her selfishness, by saying that for all her talk she's being a hypocrite.
You are not Higure, you cannot effectively claim that. The premise of the thread is that a Happy Ending for the involved parties is possible and that you are incorrect.9- That's not a response. Logically speaking, by averting the canon ending we're preventing the salvation of thousands of Magical Girls.
'Everyone' is undefined and open-ended. We might need to give Nanoha a happy ending now, and get the teacher dating a guy that will actually stay with her. Don't forget Hitomi and Kyousuke. Certainly there's a strong implication that it includes most, if not all, of the citizens of the city.Nothing less will do, I'm afraid, so don't hold back; save everyone and give them the happy endings they deserve.
...
I don't know the cross, but this was a cool story regardless.Anyway, I've been working on this for most of the day:
Crossover -
The small black cat sat on the edge of the sidewalk, looking across the street. She didn't move, she only sat there, watching the cars go by. People passed her, but she didn't react. Birds flew by, but she only sat and watched. A girl came by, pink hair tied up in two short tails, and crouched by the cat as her friends watched.
"Ah, there you are, Amy." The cat looked over at the girl, then turned back to the street, and the girl laughed softly. "Is there something more interesting out there today? Well, I have to get to school now, so I'll see you later, alright? Take care!" The cat ignored the girl as she rose to her feet and joined her friends. She was content to sit and watch, as she had always done.
…
Time passed, and the cat simply sat on the edge of the sidewalk, looking across the street. People walked by, sometimes ignoring her and sometimes exclaiming or taking pictures, but no one moved to disturb her. Cars rolled by, and the cat continued to watch them pass. Was she waiting for someone to come? Was she waiting for something to happen? She didn't know. She simply sat and watched.
A pair of hands picked her up, thin and cold. Another girl, long black hair hanging straight, bent over to pick up the small black cat and hold her against her chest. The cat looked at her, violet eyes meeting red, then closed her eyes. The girl turned away and began walking through the city.
"How are you doing this time, Amy? I hope I'm not taking you away from anything interesting, but I don't want anything to happen to you. Let's keep Madoka safe, alright?" The cat didn't react. The girl didn't seem to care. She simply carried the cat through the city until they reached her home. Unlocking the door, she stepped in, revealing a large, mostly empty room. A pendulum swung from a clockwork mechanism in the ceiling. The girl walked to one bright white wall and stepped through it, closing the door hidden behind the holographic projection as she did. "Welcome home, Amy. Let's make this time the one."
…
The girl sat in the veterinarian's office as the woman examined the small black cat. The cat seemed almost affronted, but didn't resist. She simply sat and looked at the wall. The veterinarian sighed.
"She seems to be in perfect health. It's possible that she's getting outside your house and getting her own food - cats are very good at getting places they shouldn't be. The lab work will be done in a day or so and the results sent to you. Is there anything else?"
"No, thank you, Doctor." The girl rose and picked up the cat, leaving the office with a controlled expression. She stroked the cat's back as she carried her through the city. The cat was content to be held, simply waiting in the girl's arms and being there.
"Homura-chan! Oh, and Amy!" The black-haired girl stopped in surprise, her head jerking to the side as the pink-haired girl ran up to her, her friends stopping farther back. The pink-haired girl hugged the cat. "Amy, I was so worried about you!" The blue-haired girl stepped forward.
"Yeah, what are you doing with Amy, Transfer Student?" The black-haired girl glanced at her.
"I was taking her to the vet; she hasn't been eating," she said calmly. The other girl laughed in response.
"You simply don't know what Amy likes! Here, I'll show you!" The blue-haired girl reached into her bag and brought out a small container; opening it up, she pulled out a small piece of ham that she offered to the cat. The cat looked at the meat, then turned away. The blue-haired girl blinked in confusion. Recovering quickly, she retrieved another treat from the container, which the cat also refused. Again and again she was rebuffed, until finally she gave up. "Usually … usually she likes those." The black-haired girl simply continued to hold the cat, her expression softening.
"Did the vet say what was wrong with her?" The pink-haired girl stroked the cat with concern. Occasionally her hand would brush against the black-haired girl's.
"She appeared to be healthy. Results from the lab work will be sent to me," she responded. She hesitated, then continued falteringly, "If … if there is anything wrong, would you like me to inform you? Or, is there anywhere I could take her so you can see her more often?" The pink-haired girl beamed.
"That would be wonderful, Homura-chan! And, if it's alright with you, I'll ask if I want to see her, okay? We don't see her terribly often … but if you two are friends, I know that everything will be alright!" She flung herself at the black-haired girl and embraced her, hugging both her and the cat. She pulled back, smiling still, and leaned over as if to talk to the cat privately. "Now, Amy, you take good care of Homura-chan, and don't worry her!"
…
The black-haired girl sat in the large white room with two other girls, one red-haired and one yellow-haired. The cat lay in her accustomed place on the girl's lap, and the red-haired girl grinned. "Never figured you for an animal-lover," she said in between slurps of noodle soup. The black-haired girl simply pressed a button on the remote beside her, and a display showing a map of the city flickered into life above the table. One area was highlighted, circled in red.
"I expect the Walpurgisnacht to appear somewhere in this area," she said, ignoring the red-haired girl's remark and grin. The yellow-haired girl studied the map, then frowned thoughtfully at her.
"If true, this would certainly be very useful information to possess … but I must ask, Akemi-san, how it is you came across this information." Blank violet eyes stared back at her.
"Statistics."
"Sta- … that's no kind of answer, you know! I'm not saying you've gotta tell us everything, you know, but actually showing us the information would be a good first step. As far as I know, we've never had a Walpurgisnacht in this area," the red-haired girl said, pointing her chopsticks at her. "Come on, give us something!"
<I too would like to know where you came across this information, Akemi Homura.> The three girls glanced to the side, where a strange white creature sat near a shadow. At the girl's silence, the creature continued. <Of course, there is likely to be a danger even before Walpurgisnacht comes.> Instead of elaborating, the creature walked forward, hopping onto the seat next to the black-haired girl as the they watched in suspicion and confusion. It stared into the eyes of the cat, then cocked its head, turning it nearly on its side. <Would you like to make a contract?> The girls blinked, then looked at the cat, which was ignoring the white creature.
"… I never thought I'd encounter an insane Incubator …," the black-haired girl muttered under her breath. The red-haired girl's eyes narrowed in suspicion, but the yellow-haired girl seemed to miss the statement.
"Um, Kyubey? Can you really form contracts with animals?"
<No. Animals are not sophisticated enough to formulate wishes, and they lack the emotional strength for contracts to be useful. This is most unusual.>
"… You mentioned a danger before Walpurgisnacht, Kyubey?" The black-haired girl gazed levelly at the white creature.
<Yes. Miki Sayaka is exhausting herself even faster than anticipated. She is beginning to generate a curse herself.>
"What do you mean, Kyubey?" The yellow-haired girl looked frightened.
<Ask her. I'm sure she knows … don't you, Akemi Homura?> The white creature stared at the black-haired girl for several seconds, then hopped to the floor and walked toward the shadow it had come from. Before reaching it, it turned back. <If you ever choose to make a contract with me, come find me.> Then it stepped into the shadow and left the room.
"Oi." The red-haired girl glared at the black-haired girl. "How about you tell us what he means about that idiot being trouble, huh? And what exactly is an 'Incubator,' too?"
…
A white-haired girl sat on a bench in the park, watching as a black-haired girl picked up an ordinary black cat. In her mind's eye, she saw the destruction wrought by the previous Walpurgisnacht, and could picture the destruction the next one would cause. She smiled sadly at the black-haired girl as she cradled the cat and walked off. "Sleep well, my sister, and long. May your dreams comfort you." As she stood and walked away, a strange white creature stared at her, red eyes unblinking.
Ah... So this is what oblivion looks like.I was wondering when people would finally start trying to figure out what a Golden End actually involves.
Feel free to use Blue if you want, I may even give you something to work with, although this question will take a while for you to get a complete answer to.
Good luck!
Will update in a little while, but I'm going to go ahead and make this the "Ten Minute Warning."

[x] Fall back out of direct line of sight, then cut across a few blocks to a reasonably high building. Reposition on its roof so we can keep watch while we plan.
-[X] Manage Time Stop carefully. Try not to go over 650 and don't go over 700 corruption.
[x]Talk to/Plan with Kyouko and Nanoha-
-[X] Look at Nanoha. How are you feeling? Any strange voices whispering for you to give up, it's hopeless, you should just die? If so, don't listen to them, every Witch does stuff like this to humans, being born out of despair and all.
-[x] OK, so this witch copied more than just the picture of an angel; it has an AT-field as well.[expect blank looks]
-[x] It's a force field that can only be disrupted by another of the same type, exceptionally overpowering energy, or a Spear of Longinus.
-[x] We may be bound by the 'rules' of the world it imagined.
-[x] Options are either to try to bypass it entirely, such as via timestop; to tear through it by brute force; or replicate something the witch will recognize as capable of breaking the field.
-[x] I am not sufficiently well-supplied for the brute-force option.
-[x] I'm also not sure how we could create a sufficiently sized pseudo-AT-field of our own to neutralize it.
-[x] That leaves either hoping we can be tricky and bypass its shield, or trying to create a replica of the Spear of Longinus and hoping it actually works.
-[x] Opinions?

Hmm...I wonder what plan we're following?
Good job guys.
Someone doesn't understand the concept of a quest thread. We can totally fight for fighting's sake. Also, killing Walpurgisnact is our objective.Hyp3rB14d3- And how, logically speaking, is that an argument? We aren't fighting for fighting's sake, but for the sake of an objective. Generals throughout history have acted under the axiom that you do NOT fight for fighting's sake! Losing sight of your objective has consistently led to disaster in history.
I think it's from Tsukihime. To bring us a bit back on topic, there was a theory that Kyoko's spears pierced a bit through the AT-Field because they were created with soul magic (hinting that magical attacks are close enough to this simulated AT Field). It's certainly viable, but here are some other theories: They pierced because they all attacked at once and were sufficiently powerful (basically hinting that this is a durability vs power problem). They pierced because they already resemble the Lance of Longinus enough, and the quest author is trying to give us a hint.
How to solve this? Try everything. Firstly, we should use a 1s Magic Blast to establish a baseline. Because it's a blast of pure (soul) magic, we can estimate compared to conjured spears whether the magic = soul = AT Field theory is correct. Next, attempt a single spear from Sakura, seeing if it has any different effect than all at once. If it does not penetrate, then durability is a factor. Lastly, do that fake lance idea.
I don't know the cross, but this was a cool story regardless.
