You breathe a sigh of relief. Kyouko is still out there. They all are. You just need to find a way back to them.
For now, however, you have work to do. First thing's first, you need to get to know Sayaka. Maybe she has what you need, somewhere in her life. If not, well...a chance to be happy is something to take advantage of.
You let her chatter all the way to the theater, responding when it seems appropriate. Although you consider questioning her about the sword...it can wait until you get home.
Home...what a strange idea, that the Miki household is now your home...
You emerge from your thoughts as you reach the theater, which is already packed full of people, dozens of Cosplayers milling about. Some of their costumes are excellent, but some are rather pathetic.
Sayaka immediately rushes the concessions, ordering popcorn, drinks, and a blatantly unhealthy amount of candy...which her mother immediately pays for, seemingly rushing to do so. She then proceeds to glance back at you and...nothing. She just looks at you, but you get the feeling that she's a hairbreadth from sticking her tongue out at you.
Maybe paying for everything wore on her pride as an adult...you worry for a moment that you may have somehow damaged your relationship, only for her to shove a pile of snacks into your arms, "Here, Homura-chan! Isn't it nice getting things, instead of giving them all the time? That's how this is supposed to work. I'm supposed to take care of you, not the other way around.
With that, she bends over, looks you in the eye, smiles, and ruffles your hair.
A sudden idea strikes you. It's not something you would normally do, but...you give into the sudden urge. You smile, reach up, and ruffle hair in return.
She goes wide eyed, freezing in confusion as you casually invert her carefully constructed demonstration of a child-guardian dynamic.
You stare calmly, doing your best to channel Mami's "Senpai Mode" as you smile gently at her.
Sayaka, watching from nearby, stares at the exchange for a minute, covering her mouth with one hand...only to bend in half as she laughs uproariously at her mother's expression.
Your own, carefully controlled expression soon gives way as a small smirk finds its way onto your face, and soon you're all three laughing, Mrs. Miki having finally grasped your attempt at humor for what it was.
Still chuckling to yourselves, you all eventually make your way to waiting are, just in time for the doors to open. You and the rest of the crowd pour in, and you manage to muscle your way up to the second row. You take your seat, Sayaka soon claiming the one next to you and throwing an arm over your shoulder, "Heh, and they say you Akemis don't get humor. Mom's expression..."
The elder Miki purses her lips and throws a playful glare at the pair of you as she sits down to Sayaka's right, "Here I am, trying to teach you a valuable lesson, and you...ah, who am I kidding. Let's enjoy the movie."
"Huh, so you actually managed to loosen up. Maybe you aren't so bad after all, Ribbons."
'What.'
You turn your head to the left, regarding a certain Red Headed Magus with a deadpan stare, "Wait...when did you...?"
She just yawns, before grabbing some popcorn from your bag and tossing it down her gullet, "15 minutes ago. Why pay for seats or wait in lines when you can just sneak in unseen? Our job's gotta have some perks, right?"
You just close your eyes and let your head fall back against the seat.
'This is going to be a looong movie.'
