Renascence: A Homura Quest

[X](2) With Kyouko watching over you, your resolve firms. You have a goal, and hope. Don't let uncertainty shake you.
[X](2) Hang back a little during the walk to the theater, letting Mikimom pull ahead, so you can talk privately with Sayaka
[X](2) Your wish... Wishes can be tricky, and the wording can be important. Do you actually need to be my literal bodyguard, or is that merely one of the options you have, or are you just trying to word it in a way you think I'll find acceptable?
[X](2) Try to get a quick summary of the effects and complications of what she needs, so we can make an informed decision, and make sure she's not jumping into things the wrong way.

So, to contribute to the discussion (late, but relevant for the upcoming update I hope), I do want to tell the full truth to Sayaka as immediately as necessary, but have we thought about what witchbombing Sayaka will mean, given the desires that prompted her wish? How can we phrase "If I give up or fail, I become a witch" such that she doesn't go all "but that means all witches were Magical Girls, so I must save all the witches"? You know, like Memory Access 2 says she will.

I mean, yes, saving witches is something we should eventually experiment with. But I don't think this is the loop for it.

Two possible ideas,
Point her at the source of the problem. Kyubey. If we want to save MGs from becoming witches, it's better that we stop as many contracts as possible.
Tell her that we've experimented with everything we could, but even after trying everything the process appears irreversible. If we want to save a witch, we must do so preventatively rather than after the fact. Basically very careful not-quite-lying.

I suggest we parcel out knowledge in stages so as to manipulate her response. We go into each stage in detail, and use the excuse we want her to have the full facts.

Stage 1- Magical Girls
Stage 2- Lichbomb (we want her to be angry at Kyubey at this stage as much as possible)
Stage 3- Timelines
Stage 4- WitchBomb

There is going to be difficulty either way, but if we've explained the Timelines we can hold her behaviour back considerably by saying that even if she can save some Witches, most are completely unsavable. The difficulty of the Timelines is her worrying the friendship is fake, but since Homura actually feels it she can assure Sayaka it isn't.

Even then she could go on "saving" the witches, and i think we can gather quite a bit of information from QB, which is a little hard when our bodyguard just keeps killing him, its annoying for the conversation.

Fixed it so we arent really lying, wording matters and we should endevour to pursue this venue of thought in the near future just in case.

Sure, but at a later date, in like a day or two.
Too much, too soon at this point.

I pretty much agree with the reasoning, but I would do it like this:

Stage 1: Wishes and their Price (lichbomb: the price was my soul. Unlike you, Kyubey did not feel fit to inform me beforehand). Lead with this structure because it's something she's already familiar with.
Stage 2: Timelines, because of the wish. Our powers.
Stage 3: Witchbomb: The price of failure or giving up, and something we're constantly struggling with.
Stage 4: The term Magical Girl.

Even then she could go on "saving" the witches, and i think we can gather quite a bit of information from QB, which is a little hard when our bodyguard just keeps killing him, its annoying for the conversation.

Yeah, I hate lying or leaving out critical information. It always comes back to bite you in a quest. Would rather be deliberately *mysterious* than purposely mislead.

BleachDoctor/SynchronisedWriter's Block- On second thoughts, you're right. I'll take both your amendments.

We can start with Stage 1 here, asking something along the lines of "Are you willing to guard me anyway?". That will make a good start.

At the Theater
You breathe a sigh of relief. Kyouko is still out there. They all are. You just need to find a way back to them.

For now, however, you have work to do. First thing's first, you need to get to know Sayaka. Maybe she has what you need, somewhere in her life. If not, well...a chance to be happy is something to take advantage of.

You let her chatter all the way to the theater, responding when it seems appropriate. Although you consider questioning her about the sword...it can wait until you get home.

Home...what a strange idea, that the Miki household is now your home...

You emerge from your thoughts as you reach the theater, which is already packed full of people, dozens of Cosplayers milling about. Some of their costumes are excellent, but some are rather pathetic.

Sayaka immediately rushes the concessions, ordering popcorn, drinks, and a blatantly unhealthy amount of candy...which her mother immediately pays for, seemingly rushing to do so. She then proceeds to glance back at you and...nothing. She just looks at you, but you get the feeling that she's a hairbreadth from sticking her tongue out at you.

Maybe paying for everything wore on her pride as an adult...you worry for a moment that you may have somehow damaged your relationship, only for her to shove a pile of snacks into your arms, "Here, Homura-chan! Isn't it nice getting things, instead of giving them all the time? That's how this is supposed to work. I'm supposed to take care of you, not the other way around.

With that, she bends over, looks you in the eye, smiles, and ruffles your hair.

A sudden idea strikes you. It's not something you would normally do, but...you give into the sudden urge. You smile, reach up, and ruffle hair in return.

She goes wide eyed, freezing in confusion as you casually invert her carefully constructed demonstration of a child-guardian dynamic.

You stare calmly, doing your best to channel Mami's "Senpai Mode" as you smile gently at her.

Sayaka, watching from nearby, stares at the exchange for a minute, covering her mouth with one hand...only to bend in half as she laughs uproariously at her mother's expression.

Your own, carefully controlled expression soon gives way as a small smirk finds its way onto your face, and soon you're all three laughing, Mrs. Miki having finally grasped your attempt at humor for what it was.

Still chuckling to yourselves, you all eventually make your way to waiting are, just in time for the doors to open. You and the rest of the crowd pour in, and you manage to muscle your way up to the second row. You take your seat, Sayaka soon claiming the one next to you and throwing an arm over your shoulder, "Heh, and they say you Akemis don't get humor. Mom's expression..."

The elder Miki purses her lips and throws a playful glare at the pair of you as she sits down to Sayaka's right, "Here I am, trying to teach you a valuable lesson, and you...ah, who am I kidding. Let's enjoy the movie."

"Huh, so you actually managed to loosen up. Maybe you aren't so bad after all, Ribbons."

'What.'

You turn your head to the left, regarding a certain Red Headed Magus with a deadpan stare, "Wait...when did you...?"

She just yawns, before grabbing some popcorn from your bag and tossing it down her gullet, "15 minutes ago. Why pay for seats or wait in lines when you can just sneak in unseen? Our job's gotta have some perks, right?"

You just close your eyes and let your head fall back against the seat.

'This is going to be a looong movie.'

[To be continued...]

Things are about to take off, and I'm tired (thank you daylight savings time...), so I'll be going to sleep now.

Second half will be up tomorrow, once I get a couple of things worked out.

Shame you don't have guns yet.

We should take Kyouko and Sayaka with us to loot an army base. It'll be a bonding experience.

Wellllllll

I guess discussing Sayaka's wish will have to wait.

So a witch, or the TSAB trying to arrest us for fucking with the timeline and causing a massive dimension quake?

    [x] Plan Defend, Revive, Kill
[x] Head to Sayaka. Find basic cover (a small outbuilding or similar that won't leave you visible simply due to Berserker's movements around the area), where you can place Kyouko and Mami. Don't waste a lot of time on this.
[x] Tell Sayaka that you need her to distract and delay Berserker. Nanoha will be acting as sniper and support. Make use of her mobility around the construction area.
-[x] She is not to attempt to kill the creature, even if an opening shows up. She is to act as the defender of her teammates.
-[x] Make sure Sayaka is OK after the initial clash before switching focus.
[x] Homura, meanwhile, is to work on what she couldn't allow Nanoha to do — get Kyouko and Mami back on their feet.
-[x] Work on Kyouko first. The connection they made while constructing the Lance should allow Homura to more easily feed power to Kyouko, and help restart her mind/soul activity.
-[x] Work on Mami with Kyouko's help, assuming Homura feels she got a better grasp of the process while working on Kyouko.
[x] Assuming Mami is revived, she is to act as additional delaying support for Sayaka and Nanoha. Again, she is to delay and distract the attacker, not attempt to kill it. Play extremely defensively.
-[x] If Mami is still distraught, reassure her that the only thing that matters right now is protecting her friends and keeping them alive.
[x] Finally, work with Kyouko to craft another Lance of Longinus. Once it's available, an all-out attack will be made by all the girls, with their best attacks.
