Team vs. Committee

Teams are usually depicted as a cohesive group working towards a common goal, often willing to put aside personal goals for the good of the whole, whose members are believed to be worthy of the trust put in them. Committees are usually depicted as a fractious group working at cross purposes disguised as a common goal, each often willing to sabotage the group for their personal goals, whose members are often put in place to get them out of the way by giving useful idiots the illusion of importance. Yeah, no committee fits much better.

So does this mean if he had a "blaster" power like say Heat Vision, he could only use it a limited amount of times before he needed to wait for his SP to regen? Because that sounds severely limiting and deadly inside a world that loves to throw danger at people, usually without warning. Also how does it work with Tinker powers? Can he only tinker for a set number of times before he needs to wait?
That's what the cash shop consumables are for, duh. Or you can invite your MyTwitFace friends list to join the game and get referral bonuses, and the ability to send a SP recovery item to ten friends per day for free!

Take a perk to use MP as SP?

[edit] I'm willing to bet that the PRoT goes after Alchemist after he crushes all the villains in town, because that's what happens on Earth Bet.

I doubt they'll like what happens when he accuses them of being allies with the Nazis because they refused to do anything about them while they were assaulting and murdering people, and now they're retaliating for taking the Nazis out. And there's also the fact that the only member of the PRoT who isn't white is one black girl who was forced in by the higher-ups outside of the ENE, and she absolutely hates it there.

There's no way they couldn't have known that the super-rich, super-Nazi criminal scum who fit a very narrow, recognizable profile weren't members of the all-white pharmaceutical company smack dab in the middle of Nazi gang territory, or that the Nazis always defended the place. I mean, you have one man who matches the same build as Kaiser, who has two bombshell twins that also match Fenja and Menja, just for starters. How many of those are there in town who are also all blonde haired, blue eyed, and pale skinned?

And then there's the blonde haired, blue eyed group of New Wave, who generally avoid fighting crime, especially against the Nazis...

I went and hunted this down from my original thread and went through a lot of editing.

Once again, all credit due to the amazing @memzak
Al should have all of his soulbound equipment still. That includes the conceptually invulnerable ubermech, his crazy-powerful guns, and the god-given weaponry that transcends quantification through numbers because it's a divinely conceptual weapon.

Oh, and also his tanks, starship, and the Juggernaut (bitch!).

Or he just might not. Or he might 'have them' and Terra-chan can have disallowed manifesting them.

You dont have to optimise the fun out of every story as soon as it starts man.

I think my only complaints thus far about the system are HP and SP, and Levels and it's a set of irks I have about a lot of Gamer fics. Sorry if it's a bit rambling in places.

First off: I always feel like it's a mistake not to have Level contributing to consumable/refreshable points like that. Well, or something, in general levels can be pretty useless in a lot of fic systems. Especially in anything that has any method other than levelling for gaining Attribute points. It basically just makes levels meaningless. I kind of roll my eyes at a lot of systems where a character is so proud of their level...which does basically jack shit for them, because they're hoarding their points for when training no longer helps and there's no other benefit to levelling, and no penalty for not spending.

Secondly: Recovery Rate. Personal opinion, of course, but I think x%/min is too fast, especially early on. It's fine for a fast-paced video game, but generally time is passing much faster in game than the player actually experiences, so the character would be experiencing slower recovery. As is, this has it so you can go from 0 to full in barely over an hour and a half, at base. It only gets faster from there. Even in the original Gamer, my eye kind of ticks at the 'You've recovered from sleeping eight hours in bed' thing, because the recovery rate set by the system meant a complete newbie would have recovered faster doing literally anything else that wasn't damaging them. Should be more 'Congratulations, you've recovered Five Times as much as you needed to. Too bad you can't go over the limit, sucker!'

Also on Recovery Rate: You don't have an HP recovery rate stated yet. It's also kind of unbalancing for a stat to both generate and recover the same store of points, unless the other stats are used for a lot more than is so far apparent. Going back to my first complaint, maybe tie HP recovery to Level in some way?

The recovery rate was on purpose. It's intended to put Al on a timer in any confrontation that would require the use of powers as well as force him to be deliberate in how he chooses to distribute his points. This also forces him to consider what kinds of targets he would need to fight to offset his weaknesses, or else would be within his capabilities to handle.

Most actual fights only last about ~90 seconds or so, or one tick of SP regeneration at current. Even at max stats, Al would still have a soft limit of 20% of 2000 SP, so he could sustainably burn 400 SP per minute. Which sounds like a lot because at that point it would be. Starting out, if he burned out all 100 SP at once, he'd have to wait an hour and forty minutes for it to refill. Which, considering the first 'power' I'd intended for him to grab would eat all 100 SP at a time, would be the point.

Which, amusingly enough, means that the first point in either INT or WIL would have basically the same effect on amount regenerated per minute. It quickly shifts, of course, and then it becomes a choice of immediate quantity or speed of regeneration.

As to Alec's abilities traveling with him- Yes, many of them did. Consider, however, the fact that the Shards are actual learning systems. The more things he pulls out of nowhere, the more the Shards learn to counter him. The man needs to be cautious of how much bullshit he pulls out and how fast he does so, else he makes things harder and harder for himself. At current, he's a background blip, a bit of unimportant noise.

Worm is a rough balance between Overpowered and Underpowered. It's a great playground for creative power uses, especially given that most powers are literally hammers in a world made of nails.

He could commission Leet to make a dehydrator machine to throw Leviathan in or something.
Leet power is extremely good. You just need to have the resolve to be Dr. Doom. A bombastic madmen who goes out and flexes on everyone with their tech powers. He absolutely can kill Leviathan if he knew about his core. Same goes for some other tinkers, like Bakuda. Biggest problem is that Endbringers are protected from most Thinker powers and sensors.

Isn't regeneration rate essentially INT * WILL? So they're equally important all the way to the top?

Yep. But 2 INT/1 WIL = 200 SP, regenerated at 1% per minute is 2 SP/minute.

Equally, 1 INT/ 2 WIL = 100 SP, regenerated at 2% per minute is... 2 SP/minute.

Having a metric shit load of MP with low regeneration is viable, as is having low MP with high regeneration. Or keeping them balanced. It's all a matter of how the Gamer wants to handle things, and how they try and tackle an issue.

Alternatively, it would be entirely possible to take out most Parahumans, Lung included, through mundane means provided someone had the forethought and proper equipment.

Alec, however, just has an old, beaten up, rusty PoS Step Van. (Which will be featured in its own joke at some point)

Like, there's no build up, no conflict, not of man versus man or man versus nature. It's just five chapters in and they've got the girl, got the power and spend the next ten chapters screwing their way through anything with mismatched chromosomes in the bay.
And somehow that still manages to be better than the faux spreadsheet porn that is other CYOA setups.

Come on, tell me a story.
99% of the time people using a CYOA aren't really wanting to tell a story than to have a theme between snippets, or for horny patreon money.

Also is he only limited to unlocking Parahuman powers? Or could he unlock the starting ability of something like FMA Alchemy and work from there?

It wouldn't be that bad worm is a super janky verse because of how the powers are set up mainly because no-one has superspeed and brute is only 1 of the 12 categories their 1-3 powers can fall under so basically everyone is at normal human lvs even if there are ones like Scrub, Damsel and Fletchette with crazy dangerous ranged atks physically they are base human. That means you can get pretty far with most powers from other verses heck it's outright stated that even mid tier brutes are highly desired and considered staples for teams because they can roll whole teams by themselves and the best way to counter them is to throw a brute of your own at them. For a gamer too it's also pretty convenient because if you look at elemental resistances you only really need a few because while say fire is stupidly common ice is basically non-existent.

Coil is black and part of the pr team and if he's going down that line he might as well badger them over stuff like Canary, how they chose to do nothing about the highly dodgy Nepea-5 (laws like that when they pass have a grace period before they go into effect usually the end of the calendar or tax year but that one went into effect the moment it passed instantly slapping tons of parahumans and businesses with huge fines which the pr team was only willing to help out with in exchange for people joining them) even when asked and stuff like the elite who they allow to kill or run all the other groups out of town with atk teams a hair below the s9 in terms of depravity all because the elite make sure to leave the prt and it's capes alone plus crime in areas they've conquered does drop and shift towards white collar crime.

If his previous skills in Engineering, Smithing, Compounding, etc. migrated into the WORM system, would that be enough to be mistaken for a low-level Tinker?

👨‍🍳🍳 Tinker-Chef for the lolz?

Would having done repair and maintenance work on 🚀 spaceships like the Harlock and the Federation runabouts help Alchemist un-black-box Tinkertech? Maybe point out how a machine ought to function if it wasn't deliberately counterintuitive?

Tinker-Chef for the lolz?
For you and anyone else that might be interested. There is a new Celestial fic on QQ NSFW and the first few powers were fiod themed so he is going for a chef themed Mouse Protector hero. No link for obvious reasons, The Celestial Roulette.

They wish.
They don't have nearly enough control to be tyrants.
Doesn't mean they are successful, just that that level of control is their goal.

99% of the time people using a CYOA aren't really wanting to tell a story than to have a theme between snippets, or for horny patreon money.
Well, no. Which is a large part of why I build up a relatively large rant about it. If they want to play a solo game of pretend against the dice or be the Microsoft Office bike balancing a point buy, that's fine, but why post it like anyone else should care? Fanfic on Patreon is a whole different rant, so maybe another time.

I have never heard this joke and it dropped me to the floor.

The chatbot bit is new but the rest is fairly common even if inaccurate because Dragon is one of the characters like Amy or Purity that people love to whitewash since she does actually so a fair bit of messed up stuff plus is tied to a fair amount of problems like the pr team and Saint. Honestly tho the sad thing is tho that while there are actually good people in worm namely Laserdream, Dauntless, Genesis and Sundancer their teams come with a ton of issues.

As far as the inventory in this setting would go, I was thinking of the inventory from Neverwinter Nights, using a grid that mapped to Strength. Five blocks down, ten blocks across with a new page opening up with each point of strength. Larger items and equipment would eat larger amounts of space while small items like consumables or bullets would stack up to fifty. With some reasonably small but significant items maybe taking up two blocks and stacking up to ten times instead.

This way it's not just a bottomless pit that everything gets lost in. Again -_-

So technically he could stack up fifty molotovs, shrapnel bombs, and even stink bombs? That would mess with a bunch of people, enhanced senses would be hell with that.

Now for people not Al, it could be interesting...

Is there a grace period that protects them from people like Contessa? Giving them time to build up?

I mean what would be available for people in this system? For example is there a power that slowly increases what you work on, like for example after exercising hard for a day, and going to sleep you would wake up better than yesterday?

Maybe a different version of Dauntless's power that can be upgraded, like maybe getting more charges as you invest in the power?

Maybe a breaker/shaker power that allows you to refine scrap and junk into its basic elements, that can be recycled into raw assets that can be used for various things like tinkering...

There was actually a manga where these people were facing a zombie apocalypse, some people actually gained abilities like this one guy who keeps getting stronger every day, and the effects are enhanced if he exercises everyday. So basically he got stronger, faster, and tougher by exercising or even just passing a day.

Another guy could reinforce/upgrade things by fulfilling conditions, like getting so and so much steel, stealing a lollipop from a little girl, and a half smoked cigarrette. Which he did to enhance his RV which could drive through other cars like it was a tank, take missile strikes, and was just ridiculously tough. For the tires he had to take the tires around ten times, basically spinning it around his arm like a hula hoop ten or so times. For each arm.

Finally was an old man who had a kind of telekinesis, he could touch a piece of technology, and take it apart... Allowing him to see how it is made, unlock the ability to use said tech, and it even allows him to have inspiration on other things he could make based off the tech/item.

Alchemist does have access to Wish and all of the other spells and other effects he's mastered because they're stored in his soul (and he learned magic manually, albeit while using the YJ Gamer system as training wheels), so he should absolutely still know most or all of what he had before (minus perks).

That means both PF and 3.5 versions of Mind Blank are on the table, as are any number of other information-gathering blockers.

3.5's Mind Blank (cast-able via Wish) would absolutely block shard info gathering techniques, possibly including Tattletale's, since it's not the shard that's witnessing Alchemist's existence directly, and gathering info through Tattletale's eyes would be considered remotely using her to gather info (which is blocked).

Noooo don't kill yourself, you're so sexy(in dragon form) haha.
Piss her off by being as boring as possible and ignoring the gamer system.
Move out of Brockton Bay ASAP to some boring little town or since he's a janitor a suburb of a major city so he's away from the action of the actual city.
I'm not familiar with other cities, so I'll use Chicago as an example. Move to a suburb in a collar county 30-50 miles from the Chicago Loop. Some place like Woodstock, McHenry, Harvard, Wheaton, Elmhurst, etc. Where there shouldn't be any action and just live a normal life.
Sadly Alabaster doesnt feel pain, so equal results could be achieved via any sensory deprivation he cant escape.

All four limbs in concrete stocks and drop in the bay?
I'm always fond of putting him in a barrel, filling it with concrete, capping it, then renting a boat for the day and going several hours or more out to sea before rolling the barrel over the side, then coming back.
