Merkels Operation Walküre

For a post I could use a Japanese Senryu poem. Does anyone here can speak Japanese? Is such a poem realistic? "Through darkness the rising sun finds her difficult way to shine again."

Sorry for late answer. Now,about german crimes -
Ulm family was denounced not by peasant, but polish/ukrainian policeman working for germans,Włodzimierz Leś.Polish Home army executed him for that 10.09.44
one of germans was captured after the war and died in polish prison.
Others ,in germany ,including commander,Eilert Dieken was unmolested for their crime.Diecken died as policeman in Esen.

Difference between Schindler and poles was, that Schindler was NSDAP important member,so he risked maybe losing part of his wealth, when Poles who help jews risked lives - theirs and theirs families.
Even fighting with germans was punished less- becouse germans murdered captured partisants, but not their families.

And about german reactions - they started war but destroing Wieluń town without any military targets - and Claus von Stauffenberg, who saw ruins, had nothing against that crimes. He decided to kill Hitler, when Germany start losing war.For other germans, crimes against Poles and Jews was something normal.

Which means, that NSDAP in that story would win maybe not next election, but in 10 yeras - Merkel decided to grab part of Poland here,so why germans should not support Hitler party if Merkel showed, that at least part of his goals, like taking part of Poland, was good?

Of course, there were german who do not murder Poles, like Otto Schomek - but they were very small minority - just like Poles, who helped German kill jews.

I wonder what heligoland looks like, with the pre-war and the one that the British used as a bomb testing site being so geographically different plus whatever remains of project Hummerschere.

Heligoland is as of 1944, with the UT houses placed at a different spot. Project Hummerschere will likely remain a project. So Heligoland won't become a kind of German Scapa Flow.

Two points here: first of all, the story about Otto Schomek seems to be wishful thinking on behalf of his sister.

Second, even the myte about Otto Schomek was true, then it would make him a pacifist, who refused to kill on principle. It was merely chance that it was a Polish family that he refused to shoot rather than a Serbian, Greek or French family.

Mind you the number of pacifists in any country in WW2 was low, so in that sense you could by the same logic say that only a very small minority of (any nationality) do not murder (any other nationality).

That's a bit of a shame, not even the land reclamation part? they were making some really decent progress on that. Heligoland will probably be abandoned if somthing isn't done with it, it could barely support it's population primarily with tourism (and even then with quite a lot of help from the Gov and the EU) and with tourism drying up after the war and needing to house and feed multiple times it's previous population (I'm not even sure if they can all even fit on old Heligoland), I can see it being basically abandoned. At least a manpower intensive project that doesn't use too much strategic resources and all the extra recovered land (and maybe also being the site of a pretty important naval base that guards the Kiel canal) might save it and make it economically viable without being so over reliant on such a scarce and unreliable resource as tourism. Hell, the project might even help the economy with the massive amount of unemployment about to hit Germany.

Also because it's a criminally cool looking project while not being wildly unfeasible and pointless like some of Nazi Germany's other mega-projects.

I think, such a base is no longer really necessary. We talk about a base relative close to the German coast. A flight of Tornado bombers or land based RBS 15 missiles could do the very same job, defending the North Sea coast, giving time for the fleet to sortie. Driving so near to the German coast would be suicide. And although Hummerschere will remain a project, Helgoland will still be a military base, albeit for smaller vessels.

The land reclamation is another topic, though.

Regarding the plebiscites, would the german war settlers (1 to 2 million IIRC) plus the volksdeutche from the Nazi-Soviet population transfer (around 1.88 million plus whatever many refugees that fled the Union or the Baltic states before the transfer started) and the 200k yugoslav german resettled "refugees" be allowed to vote? They should be mostly in western poland at this time (cuz of the Nazi's germanization plans ofc), having spent some years living there.

Also, any plebiscites taking place in other annexed/occupied regions? Like nord schleswig (which I'm not expecting more than a couple of towns to vote for Germany and maybe Rømø since it was predominantly frisian at the time IIRC) and Eupen and Malmedy or parts of the Netherlands and Belgium (lots of german areas on the border and the Walloons were very anti-monarchal at the time so there might be a few surprising outcomes).

Edit: interestingly Svalbard has only been populated by a german garrison force for years now, would it now become part of Germany? I'd personally find shared administration to be more plausible though.

Since the navy is blockading Britain and since they know of the oild deposits there, they should take this chance to annex Rockall, it's currently Terra Nullius and unclaimed by anyone, at the very least it could be used as a bargaining chip in the future for British negotiations.

Some remarks: I'm still busy with RL issues.

I won't comment the question of plebiscites and borders, as Germany hasn't won yet. There is one SINGLE chance for Roosevelt to succeed. But that will be revealed in 1945 (of the TL of course).

Spitzbergen is no longer German occupied, as the Norwegians retook it in 1942. In 1943 Longyearbyen had been destroyed by the German fleet (Unternehmen Sizilien).

@DemSocPrevails : Do you mean Trump running for office? That's still some time in the future.

Rockall is legally just a rock, which is uninhabitable, and no (at least theoretical possible inhabitable) island. But that is in dispute...

plebiscities would be no problem compared to fact, that practically all german from 1944 would vote for NSDAP.There is reason why Allies waited few years with german elections.
And if Merkel really grab even one part of country taken by Hitler - no matter, polish or not - they just would see that as proof, that Hitler did nothing wrong.
You could not both condemn Hitler and keep what he stolen.
P.S Poles paradoxally would not be problem there - polish farmer and socialist parties try to make deal with Stalin, after he grabbed almost half of Poland, and nationalist do not try that only becouse they knew, that Stalin would backstab them later.
Now,all that parties would try to made deal even if Merkel grab part of Poland.
Problem is,if Merkel do that,NSDAP would probably win next elections...

Can you stop claiming that all contemporary germans were enthusiastic nazis please? As repeatedly was explained to you this was simply not the case. Many of them, sure. But not all of them, not even if we count those that were apathetic. It's long since passed the point of looking like racism and/or flamebaiting.

I'm not sure why Rockall being disputed as being an island or an islet or why it being uninhabitable (technically Tom McClean lived there for a time, so it's not uninhabitable) would stop any annexation attempt, since it has never stopped anyone else before nor did it stop the British from doing the exact same thing. If being an uninhabitable rock in the middle of the sea can't be considered as part of any nation then half of the Falklands would be free territory and the number of US minor island territories would be cut in half.

I think ATP's post is very highly offending. And wrong. The support of the NSDAP was already very low in 1944. And why should the Stauffenberg group resist, if they were all die hard Nazis? This is the only comment by me to this topic. Anyone, who could read in books could see that.

Anyway, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS, Seerechtsübereinkommen, SRÜ) defines, what is an island and a rock. And considering the disputes all around the world it is questioned of a series of islands or rocks. Art. 121 III defines rocks:

Rocks which cannot sustain human habitation or economic life of their own shall have no exclusive economic zone or continental shelf.

This is a good overview about this topic. Rockall is mentioned as prototype of a rock. However, the SRÜ is no longer in use...

Agreed; he might as well be saying All Germans Are Nazis.
Did you read my post? do that, and you would see, that all what i said was, that most of germans from 1944 would still vote for NSDAP.How you turned that into All germans are nazis is beyond me.
And Staufenberg really never was hero - he backed Hitler after he saw german atrocities in Wieluń,and started opposing only when Germany could lost war.He was brave opportunist at best.

Hi folks, my RL issues have not been solved completely, but it's getting much better. I also wrote some updates I will post later. The TL will go on. However, I am in a kind of writer's block atm. I hope to be over it soon as well.

Maybe you add another crossover ? i never write anything myself, but once i read, that adding new faction usually help in defeating that evil writer block.

If you add another crossover then this story is not recognized as of now and unnecessary, maybe omakes if you want that.
