Well, we can do that by just not going out to sea ever again.
Yeah, but the longer we stay in Erengrad the more likely that we'll be tempted out to sea by a job like this one.

This job helps establish our rep, I'm hoping we can use that to get in with the real lever of power in Pragg, the Ice Witch that's the heir to the throne.

(And figure out if she's a vampire yet/stop her from becoming one)

The best time to prepare to fight Asavar Kul was 100 years ago, the second best time is now.

I don't think many of us will be inclined to go out to sea even with a hefty payout. And while this job will help our rep, doing a couple more jobs will also help it even more.

I could vote to stay to so the job with the Hearthblades if that is still available, but I don't see much point with the trolls. I don't see it as effectively taking advantage of our strengths.

Remember, that one of our actions is already spent on silversmithing for the Prophet. We won't really have much time to do anything, beyond finding a quick job. If all goes well, this raid will greatly increase our rep in Erengard and that should give us a good job opportunity. We should go to Praag, no doubt, but only once we have some cash to spare, a reputation among the locals and probably a larger force at hand.

The job with the trolls is something that is not difficult for us, but extremely difficult for the locals. It saves the countryside of Erengrad, so the city hopefully will not be close to starving when in the future it comes under siege.
And it provides a good "training ground" for any new recruits. That's a win-win in my book

It may be a couple of centuries too early for Throgg, good sir. Otherwise he would have been known as an ancient foe from the previous War against Chaos.

Looks like the Trolls have moved South though, probably searching for greener pastures in the face of the heightened organization and belligerence of Chaos, so it's not impossible to meet some interesting character IMO.

How much time we have depends on how much we are paid for the raid, if have enough money then we can stay in the city for a few weeks and have multiple actions.

For exemple, if we are paid 1000 gold for the raid, we can stay 4-5 weeks without problems. So we have enough time to hunt the trolls, do the smithing for the Silver Prophet and do another couple actions (maybe recruiting in the Elven Quarter or checking the Gran Market).

If we go troll hunting is there a chance we could encounter Throgg?

Its possible, but unlikely. I am not sure if he is born yet, and if he is then he should be deep in Troll Country.

Throgg spent a long while squatting in the mountains and not really doing anything but killing any humans that came him way.

He might be alive right now, but unless something changes I doubt he's out and about.

Would he even be smart yet? I might be wrong on this but i think his intelligence was given to him by choas for being big hunter man (and also probably because tzeentch wanted to fuck with him lmao), It wasn't something he was born with. Presumably, if he was already good enough to earn favour from the gods he would also be strong enough to be famous, and if he was he'd have a special bounty on his head, but the guard guy didn't mention anything about that.

We don't actualy know if he was born with his intelligence or it was a later "blessing" from the Chaos Gods. I think its implied the former, since he wasn't infamous for begin merely a really big and strong Troll but for leading warbands of Trolls in raids against human settlements. Wich implies a greater intelligence than an average Troll.

The earliest accaount we have of Throgg is in 2435 IC, when the Beasts of Telldros raided his land and killed most of his retinue. He didn't manage to defeat them but he managed to push them against the war camps of his rivals.

But his big boy quote is "What the gods gifted to me can be gifted to another. I will not be the one mind in a race of blunt, witless animals." While this could mean "The gods crafted me to be smart", that's not really how the gods of chaos do their thing. They don't personally make a guy so he becomes the everchosen, they look at the guys they already have and give them some everchosiness. I can't really see why they'd make an exception for this one guy.

Plus, he wants to turn the trolls into inteligent beings, he wouldn't try to do that if he wasn't himself turned smart.

Lots of things are born with mutations, even severe ones.

(For an extreme example, Morghur)

(Not that I have any idea how Trolls are 'born' to begin with- do they split off from other trolls? I've certainly never heard of troll women)

Gotrex and Felix Orcslayer has the duo and a group of dwarfs fighting a mating pair of trolls.

Orcslayer said:
Two massive trolls stood in the doorway that the dwarfs had only recently come through, watching the fight with moronic grins on their ugly, mottled faces. The troll on the left roared something unintelligible and smacked his fists together, as if indicating that Gotrek and Hamnir should continue. The one on the right, a she-troll, even uglier than her mate, clapped her hands and hooted.

Well, he was known for using the climate as an ally, effectively, but some of the stuff in his profile definitely implies he became smart:
"There was a time when Throgg was content purely with a life of hunting, raiding and killing"
"One moonless night, as Throgg was picking his yellowedtusks clean with a gem-encrusted blade, he beheld the brokenbodies of his prey and began to think."

Could be some mix of the two, that he was born smarter than other Trolls, then the Chaos Gods made him actually self-aware.

The ogres believe that some of the mountains in the Ancient Gaint Lands are actually the remains of the eldest Skytitans that calcified in their old age. If that were true would that mean that a skilled necromancer could, in theory, wake up the mountain?

If it were true, and the thing is actually dead, then sure, its a corpse, after all. Mind you, if its true, but the thing is not actually dead, just sleeping the ages away, youre gonna have a bad time.

How would you even fight something like that? I'm pretty sure the most powerful artillery in the setting would barely even be noticeable to what is essentially Denmark with legs. I guess thats part of why they went to sleep, there's no way you could keep that thing fed.
