Magical Girl Quest - The Fire That Burns

holy gods but we rolled well

anyway, given that it's the biggest hole in our combined skillset, and I'd really rather not try anything too risky until we get it worked out,

[X] Magical Training
-[X] Medical Animal Testing

though I can still be convinced to go hunt things

also:

[X]EXP Plan: Best Sword
-[X] Infinity Edge: Limitless
-[X] Infinity Edge: Levitate

A very productive week. Juggernaut Wave seems ridiculous though, considering it's growth rate is x2 damage and +20 MM (invisitext).

Ignition Aura testing was apparently successful considering the increase in damage reduction, despite not leveling up, so I'm happy about that. Nice to see our resilience increasing significantly, and we're growing steadily in other areas.

It's a shame Daiyu didn't do so well with magic, but the Ebon Heart and Plate Armor upgrades are nice.

Not really sure if we should do animal experimentation or military cross training. Both appeal to me.

Well it looks like we stole some of Daiyu's luck.

Some things to do that I feel are important.

1) Ask Daiyu about sword training.
2) Find out what Morgan is up to.
3) Take Daiyu on some field missions, nothing truly high end just to give her some experience against the many creatures we'll face. Actually how much did she do in China? as a magical girl before we meet?
4) Go. To. Mountain.
5) Maybe try Germany again since we have our tank this time around? I'm worried about easily slicing through armour still. Also has anyone been there since we left?

Also military cross training? I figure we could probably learn at least some things from them, and furthermore I have little mental images of chibi marines gnawing ineffectually at Karen's ankles and it's fucking adorable.

And that's not even mentioning the upgrade we can buy.

Sorry if this has already been explained, but i've noticed Daiyu has higher base damage than us, and I'm not sure why? Though I suppose knights aria makes that less of an issue.

Rukia has mentioned that was because we had better buffs we could apply to our sword and our damaging options in general are better.

As you can see, Juggernaut Wave and Plasma Sphere alone have ridiculous damage, but there's also Ignition Aura: Incineration and Alpha and Omega. Not to mention there's that End effect our sword has that we still haven't figured out, which we used on one of the Scrants.

It should be noted however, that Daiyu's growth rate is significantly better than us. She's currently at *1.4^[level] for both resilience and damage, making it so that when we're both at level 20 with our weapons she has about 8 times as much damage as us. She has 16 times as much resilience if both of us have armor level 20.

Thanks! I assumed it was something like that, but it's nice to have have it verified.

From the Bible: ''Target:Army : Allows the given spell to target a mass of enemies as if they were a single entity. Also gives a x500 damage multiplier when activated in order to hit properly at that scale.''

x500. Am I missing something or is that as amazing as I think it is?

It really is that good, but it only works against an army, so right now, it's not that great with what we're facing.

Despite spending time with Daiyu, I don't feel like we are getting to know her.
We should probably try doing that, If we go on easy missions we could try doing that on the way there and back.
Language barrier might still be a issue.

Juggernaut Wave actually feels a bit too OP, weird as it feels to write that.
I would prefer if the growth was in the 1.4-1.6 range so it didn't totally obsolete plasma sphere and overshadow our other damage options.
The Army modifier is not even needed, it's not that costly to get to million of damage without it.
2x growth allows it to deal over a million damage as early as level 13 (~1500 xp).

If it's kept as is we should level it and train casting spells at reduced power.
Millions of damage with collateral how one accidentally breaks a city.

It's not our build but Daiyu does not gain much from more regeneration.
Heart of Steel means she will take damage in chunks of at least 75% of max hp.
There are very few situations where she takes that kind of damage and have time to regen 51%hp before the next hit.
A few levels is good to recover between combats but more is a waste.

If she gets enough levels in it (level 50), she can regenerate 100% health every turn.

How is that a waste?

Its hard to level, and I actually forgot to put an ability on it. (4 Turn Cooldown)
Whups.

Does that mean that there is a difference between spending XP and training time on abilities?
It would explain why reinforcement is growing so fast.
Is training time needed at least linear to levels in the same way XP is ?

If so we should focus training on things that are easy to train and XP on things that are hard to train.
But first compile a list on what's easy and hard to train.
A quick look suggests something like : Thermal control > Reinforcement > Plate Armor => Infinty Edge > Juggernaut Wave.

XP is an instant levelup, training is faster at lower levels and slows down as you level up, and some things take longer to train.

She looks down at you, still just a bit taller than you, as she waits for you to speak.

Did Cerys have a growth spurt during the last few weeks? I am not sure... would have to reread, but I think Morgan's size was never really mentioned.

I just looked at the new Shop-Items.
Imagine my joyful surprise when I found Target: Army.

Additionally, Juggernaut Wave has a 2x growth.
This is what I was imagining; our ace in the hole.
And it came from the most unlikely of places, from Push.
I am happy with it.

We probably have to work on the armour again later... and find out what Morgan does... and all the other things people mentioned.

But that aside... hm. What to do...
We can hunt for legends later; they will still be there in a few days. Pest control should be left for a few days, too.

Actually, the cross-training sounds urgent right now... Morgan mentioned that the training on animals is something she will get back to the following week, so... ugh, I would rather not go for it right now, on a Saturday.

So...
[] Saturday: Military Cross Training, with Daiyu
-[] Before you go, have a few words with Cuifen... even when it will be awkward again, this has to be done
--[] Tell her you can guess how she feels... you know what you would feel if Una was the one heading out
--[] You can't make any promises... but you will try your best to make sure Daiyu always comes home
-[] Talk to Daiyu on the way; you really do not know much about her

[] Sunday: Take a day off
-[] Spending time with Una is a given... what about Morgan, Daiyu, Cuifen?
-[] Have some fun together; have them bring winter clothes and then transform your training area into a winter wonderland
--[] Time for snowmen, snow angels and snowball fights
-[] Have something warm and filling for dinner

[]EXP Plan: Best Sword
-[] Infinity Edge: Limitless
-[] Infinity Edge: Levitate

Ugh, this got long again... but I imagine we should reassure the other big sister in the group a little. I also incorporated the idea to talk to Daiyu some more.
And... all of them probably need a breather. What is better than playing in the snow at the beginning of summer?
Anyway... I think the military people will understand that we have little time... but we should squeeze in at least a day.

Animal Experimentation... we should do that on Monday, then start hunting.
(Fun Fact, I recently checked... and found that the Claw Ghosts can do nothing to Daiyu; their attacks just ping off... and seeing that she is immune to A&O, we can have the spell-negating barrier around her as well.)

Edit: Additionally, I noticed that Daiyu bought Knight's Aria.
Plus, funny as it is, Morgan's shield Spell currently protects from twice as much damage. That will probably change soon, but the prodigy is still ahead.

Edit 2: It is now official, we will pretty soon be the hardest hitter everywhere.
I just checked for Juggernaut Wave... and found that it will do 256,000 damage at lv10. That is enough to destroy most singular enemies.
With Target:Army, this damage becomes 128,000,000... which, incidentally, is enough to destroy basically every army.
Even if we can use it only once every five turns, nothing will be left standing once we do.

For the people that are grumbling about Plasma Sphere becoming useless... it is rather that we now gained the means to actually attack large groups of stronger enemies. Thermal Spear is for small fry, Plasma Sphere for small groups and the more heavy hitters... and Juggernaut Wave for everything beyond.

Additionally, I notice that the spell made purely from our magic has a far higher scaling than all the rest... as had its previous incarnation.
Might that be connected?

I finally got caught up on the quest!

Also, I've got a very interesting training idea. One that came to mind like 50 pages ago while I was reading, but can actually be put into action now that we can buy Levitate and Limitless for our weapon.

There are a few steps to this training plan, and it will work on little bits of quite a few things, but should earn us Boosted Flight, among other things. Complete the following steps in order.
  1. Purchase Limitless and Levitate for Infinity Edge. Practice spawning swords to kick off to accelerate from rest more quickly when flying.
  2. Practice casting Halt on yourself. Learn to control it so that you can make the Bind effect only last for a fraction of a second when you cast it on yourself.
  3. Try to combine the previous two steps, use Halt to instantaneously decelerate from full flying speed to zero while simultaneously summoning a sword to kick off of to start moving in a different direction.
  4. Try to improve the rate at which you can perform the previous combo. Try to zigzag around a room by repeatedly stopping and kicking off, gradually reducing the delay between each cast of Halt. Perhaps have someone else fire attacks at you so that you can practice dodging in this manner.
Once step 4 progresses far enough, the only real difference between what we'd have and Boosted Flight is that our kick offs wouldn't be quite as good at accelerating as true Boosted Flight would be.

In the process though, we'd probably gain a ton of levels in Flight and Halt, improve our magical control some (not necessarily enough to actually level that up though), and make a lot of progress towards Omni-Caster (multiple spells per turn) and/or Multi-Caster (cast the same spell multiple times in a single action).

Thoughts?

I like that idea a whole lot. We should implement it at the next training session.
Uh... only when?
Hm...let me see... Saturday/Sunday are planned for already... Monday will be Animal Experimentation... I want to check the camps on Tuesday, if nothing else happens (might take until Wednesday or Thursday)... so after that?

Anyway, write it down somewhere so we do not forget it, would you?

I know that I won't forget, since its been on my mind all day. And its easy to find since its literally my first post in this thread.

The idea of using Halt for the stop on a dime part of Boosted Flight came to mind the moment that the idea of kicking off of floating swords was first mentioned, like 50 pages ago.

Fair enough.
This is exactly what being a hivemind is good for; I never even thought about doing this... despite the fact that I was the person who proposed to protect ourselves from attacks with Vacuum by casting Halt on ourselves.
However, we know that Cerys feels the cancelled momentum from Halt... so this might get pretty painful at higher speeds. Have to test that.

This is why its best to learn it early, while our top flight speed is still pretty slow. Get accustomed to doing that at a slow speed, and then gradually work your way up to higher speeds.

Also, I kinda expect that if our bootlegging gets that close to true Boosted Flight, then true Boosted Flight will appear in the shop.

Good point.
As I said, we will do that the moment we can... there is just a lot of other stuff right now, too. Boosted Flight is more than worth the time invested in getting it.

I like the plan for Saturday, but I don't really see the need for a day off. Now that Daiyu is cleared to go on missions with us, and she clearly wants to get out and do something, it would be good to go out rather than take a free day. It just feels wrong to make her wait until Tuesday to go on a mission when she has already been waiting a whole week.

I have to second this, she's basically been cooped up training for a week just so she can get out there and fight with Cerys and you want to take the day off after she's been cleared to go?
