Magical Girl Quest - The Fire That Burns

Changing system part way though always causes problems.
[X] Do not fix the system

This was my though regarding the Knights, but I might as well put it to rest now, I've already fixed the derpiness of other things.
This also means that I don't have to go back and re-write 30,000+ words of combat
Well, people seem to like the part. I know I do, it is refreshingly different... I just had to get used to it.
What kind of 'derpiness' do you mean?

Exponential stats scale really fast with high levels and high base stats.
Also a sneak-peak at some of your planets co-habitants

Wait... the dragons had exponential scaling?
Okay, that explains things...
A positive aspect of bringing the system aside from the Knights back to chunks instead of exponential growth is that you do not need the calculator as much, though.

And I just noticed that Morgan has her stats de-exponentialised already. Was that what you were busy with?

Myths and Legends exists for a reason, even if they are completely inaccurate.
That snake is so badass that one of the greatest hero's in it's mythos is fated to die drowning in it's venom. Yes drowning and not from the deadly poisoning.

?
Oh, I wasn't busy for the last few days doing that.
I was being miserably sick for most of it.
I have a very good Idea of myth things you could toss at us (If you throw Hindu Mythical stuff at us I will bloodly quit this thread1 because I do not wish to see the salt).

1.I will most likely come back

Why would that generate salt? Due to how powerful those myths are or because they are frustrating?

There are only a few truly strong beings floating around Earth.
Most of them were killed because Gaia doesn't have time for their shit.

The remaining ones are the ones that Gaia has an absolute hold over.

Hindu gods have the problem of the people spreading them arguing with each other about which ones are 'better' as such they are utterly insane in both power levels and abilities. (Same with china but china was more restrained).
Needless to say Asia had crazy myths/stories.

But seriously, I wonder what's the flavor text Daiyu has for her ability. I can't think of anything with 'your infinity'.
A little late, but I just hit myself when I realised that I can answer that.

-Sync with Cerys in combat, stand strong as the bastion of your Infinite Soul.

[X] Do not fix the system

Changing the system this late can easily derail the quest or change how it feels.

Also if you do be very careful about leaving any exponential abilities in.
They would eventually be so overshadowing that everything else doesn't matter.

Alpha and Omega
Level 5
-I am the end of all things. Cerys can create a bubble of space that annihilates existence. Everything within 20 metres takes 19 damage every turn. Damage doubles every turn spent inside the barrier. Buffs and Debuffs are applied at 50% strength and only last one turn. Attacking Spells Magic Modifier must be higher than yours or it will be negated, otherwise they do 25% less damage. Effects everyone but Daiyu.
Hora~ Tis nice to know this.

9:2 In favour of not fixing.

Starting to write the next chapter now, though it might be a while, since I have to go for a while in a hour or so.

TRAINING MONTAGE V2, TRAIN HARDER
You keenly remember just how little resistance your armour had offered against the Ghost, it's claws were barely even slowed by it. Since your schedule for the immediate future was clear for now, this was the most pressing issue that you needed to deal with right now. You decided to take on two problems at once and go to Morgan for help with this, you pulled her aside, so that the two of you were alone. She looks down at you, still just a bit taller than you, as she waits for you to speak.

You sigh as you lean against the wall next to you. I've put this off for long enough. "First, I'm still a little angry at you for telling my sister like that, but..." You grit your teeth a little. "I apologise for being childish and ignoring you yesterday." God, admitting to your mistakes always hurt, even if you knew you were in the wrong.

Thankfully Morgan just smiles at you, a little tension fading away from her face, was she actually worried about you? "Let's just pretend that never happened ok?" You both nod, and promptly pretend it never happened. "As for your sister..." She shakes her head a little. "I'm sorry that it looks like a betrayal to you, but it's for the best." Before you can get a word out she continues. "I've seen families of Enforcers torn apart by constant lying and downplaying of things like this before. You might think that it's for the best to keep her out of the loop, but when happens when you come back gravely injured like this, or you die?"

You clench your jaw slightly, resisting the urge to snap at her and let out a long breath to calm yourself. "It would have been best if you had discussed this with me beforehand."

Morgan looks apologetic as she shifts on the spot. "Yes, I really should have talked to you about this weeks ago. I shouldn't have gone over your head and told Una this either, but..." She is looking conspicuously away from you. "I was worried ok? You got really badly hurt and I didn't know what to do." She hides her face behind the rim of her hair. "I thought you would be more careful if your sister knew, I don't want to lose you."

Her words hit you hard, forcing you to close your eyes as you feel something bubbling in your chest. You let out a long breath, feeling all of your anger draining out of you until you feel kind of empty. You just follow your instincts here and move forwards, hugging her silently. She reciprocates, her arms settling around your shoulders as you rest your head on hers. You both stand there for a while, comfortable, before you separate. You step back, feeling a little flustered, apparently she is too by the red on her neck, but you feeling a lot better about this entire thing.

"Ok... Ok." You nod. "I'll try to be more honest about how things are going in the future."

She smiles. "I'll try not to meddle again, I'm sorry."

Words said, you both nodded at each other, leaving your secluded spot with a bump of your shoulders. You walk for a little while, before Morgan makes a small noise that gets your attention. "What was the second thing you wanted to talk about?" What... Oh, yeah, that.

You rub the back of your head a little in embarrassment, but you speak. "I was wondering if I could have a look at some of the different types of armour you guys have around here, to see if I could make mine stronger."

She makes a contemplative noise before she nods. "Yeah, that should be fine. If you go to the R&D labs, James should be pretty acclimatising, he's always up for some experimentation."

You smile at her and give her a short thanks, splitting off at the next turn, heading towards where you remember R&D is. The trip is short and you arrive in good time. You enter the labs and are greeted by a busy room, people bustling left and right talking about all manner of things. You awkwardly walk through them, getting nothing more than a sidelong glance as you move to knock on James door, getting a call to enter shortly after. He is sitting again, nearly organised stacks of paper on his desk as he continues writing, even while he looks up at you. He doesn't say anything, waiting for you to start.

"Uhh, hello. I wanted to see if I could incorporate or use ideas from other pieces of armour to make mine stronger, and Morgan told me to come to you."

His even stare doesn't shift as he nods, standing, setting down his pen and pushing his chair in with the same movement. What the? He doesn't stop, waving for you to follow him as he leads you further into his room, moving through a door at the back. Inside, there is a wide collection of things, all looking carefully organised in ways that you don't understand. He moves through, pulling out a draw and setting a heavy metal chestpiece of some kind on the table in front of you. Then he steps back and begins watching you.

Ok... You step forwards, running a finger over the obviously rune enhanced metal. You could make out thousands of tiny little runes, plastered nearly everywhere that they could fit and some where they shouldn't be able to fit. You have no idea how to make sense of the rune, so you look over your shoulder and just ask. "Will this be fine if I immerse it in magic?" He nods, writing something down on a notepad he's gotten from somewhere. You turn back, letting your magic engulf the chestpeice as you try to make sense of it.

(Cerys: 88 + 10 = 98)

The longer you examine it, the more ideas come to your mind. You still can't make sense of the Runes, but the armour itself was a masterpiece. You couldn't feel any cracks of imperfections in the metal. Though it was just steel, it was incredibly tough. You try to refine your thermal sense further, to see if you could look even deeper into how it was made, but you can't grasp the tiny little pieces it was made of. You sit back, a little disappointed, but mind still whirling with ideas.

You quietly leave the room, sending absent-minded thanks to James as you go, who was busy eagerly inspecting the armour you had been looking at. Still, you quickly stop by your room asking for Daiyu, only to find that she is already at the Gym. You make your way over, greeting her as you quickly summon your armour.

You try somehow altering it when it is complete, but it seems to lock into it's state when it's done, only very minor alterations can be made. To stop someone from taking control of it somehow? You try pressing the energy harder, and that certainly works, though it takes a while. Something you'll have to practice at probably. You try emulating how the armour felt, but your magic just kind of... wavers before falling apart.

You look over to Daiyu, moving through a pattern of swinging her sword, repeating it over and over as she practices. I really should ask her to teach me something later. You pull her aside for a moment, asking to look at her armour, since it seems to be tougher than yours for some reason, even though it is basically the same material.

(Cerys: 81 + 10 = 91)

There is a lot of it you don't understand, but her armour is basically the same as yours, or at least it's made the same. But for some reason hers is tougher than yours, despite you working on it for longer? Fucking magic, doesn't make sense. Still, it does at least give you an idea as to how you can refine your hardening a little. Being able to harden joints, but have them remain just as flexible was amazing.

In the end, you feel like your armour is much tougher than it was before. It hasn't changed appearance at all, but the softer areas don't indent even slightly when you run your blade along the edge. You share your findings with Daiyu, who puts off her sword routines to help you practice with it.

/LINE BREAK\

The next day, you are up bright an early, giving Una a hug and throwing Morgan a smile as she goes about doing... whatever it is she does. Should probably investigate that at some point. Still, you already arranged with Daiyu to practice more Magic today. You are shuttled over to your place on the range, shaking off your stiffness from sitting in traffic as you summon your armour.

You rest your hands on your sword as you explain things to Daiyu. "Ok, Magic can be explained by 'it doesn't make fucking sense'. Otherwise, so long as you are trying something that works to your affinities, you should be able to make a lot of things work." She nods, taking your words seriously as you remind her of the risks of reaching too far.

You create targets for her and just let her try whatever comes to mind. While she is doing that, you are busy trying to get your own idea to work. A lot of your spells are related to doing elemental damage, if you came across something immune to temperature, you would be kind of fucked. So you think about trying to create some sort of magic neutral spell that should work whenever.

(Cerys: 87 + 10 = 97)

It goes very well. You initially had some issues with actually firing your bolt/beam/thing of energy, but when you remembered that Push works like that, you had just the idea. You took the wave, thinned it down so it was closer to a beam and fired it.

Turns out, when you take an entire wave of force and compress it down into a small area, it demolishes things. You try to work some sort of corrosive element into it, but the only corrosive magic you've encountered is your barrier, and you have learned your lesson about playing with that sort of thing. Still, it amuses you somewhat that you've essentially made a massively upscaled version of the little beams of magic you see Enforcers using. Only yours is less a small beam of magic and more an aimable wall of 'Fuck You'.

Consequently, you learned that the barriers can stop your attacks, though they looked a little strained.

Daiyu was most amused.

(Daiyu: 27)

Daiyu's own experimentations in magic don't go nearly as well. Nothing goes wrong, though you had to stop her from trying to use a new idea on herself, but she doesn't get anywhere either. Still, better than nothing.

When you get back, you ask Morgan about the farm. Apparently the owner had a couple of animals that were going to be put down anyway, so it was fine if you experimented on them, just as you weren't cruel. Which fit you fine, Morgan said she'd get back to him for sometime next week.

/LINE BREAK\
For Thursday, gaining more control over your magic was next on the menu, the... thing that had happened was something you were convinced was due in part of a lack of control.

You spent basically the entire day just fiddling with your magic in every way conceivable. Hotter, colder, cold heat, hot cold, levitating, bending your spells.

(Cerys: 51 + 10 = 61
Cerys: 71 + 10 = 81
Cerys: 78 + 10 = 88)

You had a decent shake of success, not anything groundbreaking, but you did well. While you were at it, you managed to figure out how to make your Ignition Armour a little more solid and a little less droopy. It actually looked kind of badass now.

/LINE BREAK\

For the last day, you focused almost entirely on pure sparring. Just you and Daiyu beating the shit out of each other with wild, breathless grins on your face. When you actually let yourself go all out, while you still couldn't hurt her, she couldn't hurt you either. Your recent work on your armour and the massive boost of strength your reinforcement gives you was enough to even the match. You are sure that if you actually tried seriously, you might be able to hurt her with your sword, but she couldn't hurt you anymore either.

Still, while you were cooling down, you decided to look over her weaponry. They seemed to be a fairly normal sword and shield, but your sword had just seemed like a glowy sword when you had started. You guided her through filling her weapon with magic, like yours had. While her weapons don't do anything extra glowy like yours do, you see a slight aura flaring along her body. It is thin and wispy, and you can't touch or sense it, but it's definitely there.

You leave her to play with her Aura, she's probably make more sense of it than you. You spend the rest of the day practising with the last couple of ideas that come to mind.

You try summoning swords as quickly as you can, then making them float, before you eventually manage to merge both of these together. You can summon swords that float around very slowly, though you are sure you can do something about that. It actually feels a little strange, creating so many swords like that, but it gets easier as you make more of them.

Finally, for the last thing you want to try doing, is to go back and investigate your sword a little. You can enhance your spells by casting through your sword... kind of. That's not really how it works, but it's hard to describe. Still, you were thinking about trying to cast your Aura through your sword, rather than in a bubble or barrier.

When you try your Aura, it lights up your blade with large blue flames, and it seems to function like your Aura normally would, just confined to your blade. Your barrier is much the same, it takes to your sword just fine, though it does eat any and all magic you try and channel into it. I really need to find a work around for that, it's annoying as hell.

Still, plans done, you sit at the dinner table nibbling on a piece of toast. Morgan has said that there really wasn't much going on around right now, but if you really wanted to go out and do something, she could find you a job to do.

Apparently the Military had been practically gnawing at Karen to have you for at least a day, so that was something you could do. Daiyu had found an old book of legends, some of which were apparently real, and she wanted to go hunting for them.
