You close your eyes and let your chin drop to your chest. I already knew I was going to be doing this though didn't I? You shake your head and push yourself to your feet. Cmon girl, just like riding a bike. You open your eyes and look down to Morgan. "I understand, but I will know why this is so crucial when I get back." She nods, but you are already half way across the room, looking to where Una is quietly peeking around the door. When she catches sight of you, she tries to duck back, before realising that it's pointless. She comes around the corner looking downcast, toeing the floor and avoiding looking at you.
You gently kneel down next to her and raise her chin with a finger, you wait for her eyes to lock to yours and see your gentle smile before speaking. "Hey, it will be fine. There isn't anything in the world that could stop me from coming back to you." You draw your arms around her shoulders and rest your chin on her head. "It'll be fine, just you see." You hear quiet little sniffing noises, but you can feel her nod against your chest before she steps back.
She looks up at you and put her best smile on. "That's 'cause you are Big Sis, you are the Best!" She shakily nods to herself, before nodding more solidly. She pulls away from you, running back into her room to grab the radio headset she had been trying to hide from you. She slides it over her head and reaches over, grabbing the radio off of the table and helping you clip it to your belt. "Big Sis will be fine, you just unleash the power of love!" You nearly trip in your walk at that, spinning around and just catching a tiny smirk before her face is carefully blank again.
You narrow your eyes at her, but just smile a little as you open the door. "Right then, I'll be back in... seven?" You look to Morgan, who nods. "Seven-ish hours. I'll see you then." Just before the door closes, you call back to your sister. "And be good for Morgan you hear?" You heard a muffled call-back as you turn the corner, straightening your back and letting your smile fade away. When people see you pass now, they get half-way to smiling, before they see the grim look on your face. They clear the path before you, one of them actually opening the door to the Garage for you. You spare her, a young girl who was shorter than you, a curt nod in thanks.
Your driver is waiting as normal, popping the door open for you before climbing into his own seat. You see his eyes flick to yours in the middle mirror and shift a little. "Hey, you're lookin a littlle glum there, get into an argument with your girlfriend?"
The stiff atmosphere is promptly brushed away as your mind comes to a stumbling halt, spluttering at him before you right yourself. "She's not my girlfriend." You shake your head, the situation settling in on you again. "No, I just..." Fuck it, this guys been straight with me. "They are sending me out to kill a dark mage."
There is silence after your statement, stretching for a long moment, but eventually you hear a long sigh from the front. You can just about make out a fuckin hell before he speaks to you. "Ah... My apologies then." The ride is awkwardly silent for a while, but he calls back to you after you take a turn to the motorway. "Your first assassination?" You send him a sharp look at his words, but he just shakes his head, eyes firmly on the road. "I'm not gonna butter it up and use whatever word they hide it with, what was it, cleansing? Something like that. You're being sent to kill someone, that is what it is."
You let his words run through your mind, breath hitching slightly, but you calm your breath and try to respond as evenly as you can. "Yes."
He isn't put off by your curt response at all, and just nods silently. He doesn't say anything for the rest of the trip, the silence only broken by hourly check-ins by Morgan. They were mostly comprised of 'Still driving'. You appreciate his silence, it gives you time to think to yourself.
When you finally arrive at a small village, you manage to catch the name on a sign as you pass it by, Glentham. You stretch as you get out of the car, the driver directing you towards a house across the street. You are greeted at the door by a man wearing a military uniform and holding a gun halfway behind his back. He waves you in, eyes on the surroundings before closing the door behind you. He walks quickly through to the kitchen, where there is a rudimentary war room, with maps and radio's and folders scattered about.
He grabs a folder before handing it to you, sitting as he does. "Hello, sorry for being so curt, we're on a tight schedule here." He nods to the folder. "Read that, it's a better description of your target we've managed to cobble together in the couple of hours we've been here." He waves his arm around the room. "HQ is officially eleven hours old as of ten minutes." He shakes his head as you open the folder. It has a better picture, but the man is still hooded and cloaked, it is showing him creeping over the back of someone's fence.
The folder still has barely anything about the creatures, but it does have a better photo. You look up as you hear the man clear his throat, an old woman coming around the corner dressed in civilian clothes and carrying two cups of tea. You take one with a quiet thank you, before you look to the map on the table. The man shakes his head again and sighs. "Sorry about there, we needed to commandeer a house now, so we had to grab the first one available."
You hear the woman chuckle and call back as you take a sip. "Don't be acting like I'm a stranger sonny-boy, it's been too long since any of you Grandchildren have come to visit." You see the man dip his head, but he continues as if she hadn't spoken, pointing to a spot on the map, a house.
"We've narrowed down his location to this house, though we're pretty sure that he has something out of the village as well." He sucks in a short breath. "I don't know how you magicy people deal with threats like this, but I don't want this spilling out onto the street. Both houses on either side of it are occupied."
You nod as you look at the pictures of the house next to it. "Nothing overtly magical in plain view then, no flying or explosions." You tap your finger on your mug. "It would be best if I could lure him out of the village where I could fight him properly, there are too many people here."
He nods and draws a finger across the map. "We think he's got a base of some kind out in the fields, something underground probably, there is no room for anything overground around here." He taps a particularly large field about three miles away from the village. "We think it's probably here, but we haven't had the chance to search for it."
You nod as you think. "I can find that no problem, I can sense heat in a mile radius, he can't hide from me." The man blinks at you before nodding. "Otherwise, why do you keep saying 'we'? Do I have some backup on this one?"
The man nods as he shifts a file around. "Yes, I've got a scout here under my command and two Enforcers who are going to be doing something about people noticing. We've got a squad of SAS coming down, they'll be here within two hours. Apart from that, if everything goes to shit, we've got an air-strike on standby." He smiles a little sharply. "Fucker ain't gonna get out of this one."
You lean back as you look over the map again, taking another sip. "It's not my place but, this personal?"
He nods slightly. "I've been the guy in charge of tracking him down ever since he decided that he wanted to disappear a soldier." He sounds intensely angry, his teeth creaking as he speaks. "Didn't even know about magic till two days ago when your lot noticed him and gave us the heads up."
You look back over the map and take in your options.
Battle Plan...
[] Wait for backup before engaging.
-[] Inside the village
-[] Outside of the village
--[] Battle Plan?
Wait for backup and stalk him for a while, gives you the chance to set up and plan your engagement, but also gives him more time to continue his plan.
[] Don't wait for backup before engaging.
-[] Inside the village
--[] Battle Plan?
Attack him before he has the chance to react to your presence, you'll have to fight him inside the village though.
