Loyalty is its own Reward (A Traitor Legion Chapter Master Quest)

I'm really tempted to go after the hellforge first since the sooner we take it out the less daemon engines we will have to deal with. Space ships take years to build so I'm not too worried about them finishing work on a ship if we don't take it out right away though it does remain a slim possibility. As always taking about ritual cites as soon a possible so always good. So I think we should either go for the hell forge or the ritual cite first.

PS just looked at our allies opinions and since most of them want to go after the orbital ring first I guess that would also be a good idea. So yeah three main locations of importance.

If you guys give me a few hours, I can make a plan that focuses on the Orbital Ring, the Temple and the city next to the Temple.

I firmly believe we should 'leap-frog' from location to location for this part of the campaign. Consolidation of forces are important as the enemy elites are here and we can't afford to be caught out of place or off guard.

@ThunderOwl After we take the Orbital Ring, what exactly is going to happen to it? Are we going to rig explosives to it? Can we possibly throw chunks of the thing to important locations on Yerma, like the Fortress Monastery of the EotM?

We need a lot.of forces to focus the orbital sounds to few to take out

While the forge seems to be lot and we are already planning to send a lot to take out 2 cities one to secure as base the other to take away the last Sorcery launch post

The Angels Crusaders really are the worst aren't they?
Keep in mind that the Angels Crusader Chapter Master is actually a decent and reasonable sort worth cultivating relationships with.

In fact, Gerard being a screaming shitbag here is a really good thing for both us and the Angels - we can take a record of that and send it to the AC Chapter Command to have Gerard formally reprimanded and potentially removed from command for incompetence. Losing a battlebarge and breaking Imperial Law in the process of throwing a hissy fit over it? Useful ammunition.

12th Kruthan Loyalists Regiment "the Proud Twelvers"

Homeworld:
Kruthan

Regimental Standard: A White Skull in the centre of a Golden Saltire on a Black field. On the bottom is written the regiments motto while the top has the regiments number of XII.

Motto: Fidelis Ad Mortem

Classification: Infantry Regiment

Date of Founding: early to mid-31st millennium.

"Come on ye traitor bastards, give us some fun!" Colonel Bryan Addair, during the campaign of pacification against the rebelling world of [REDACTED].

"We surrender now call them off, for the love of the Emperor call them off!" A rebel commander announcing their surrender shortly before their garrisoned city was sacked, looted, and razed.

"You're the absolute scum of the earth, but I'd be damned if I haven't seen more loyal soldiers!" General Malthius Lorenzo, following the campaign against the Orkish invasion of Gazrak City-Burna, the regiment was reduced to less than a tenth of its number after refusing to give ground to the enemy.

The 12th Kruthan Loyalist Regiment, nicknamed the Proud Twelvers, are one of the most illustrious of the Kruthan Loyalist Regiments tithed to the Imperium. Founded during the earlier years of the Imperium shortly after the heresy, the 12th has served long and faithfully for its entire history. Destroyed and re-founded countless times over the millennia to keep its legacy alive.

Legend tells that the regiment has its origins in the ancient days of the Horus Heresy. When the traitorous forces sought to steal Kruthan from the Imperium and dash it upon the rocks of heresy and treason, the loyalists of Kruthan refused to abide this treason, and vast swathes of the planet rose up in rebellion. It is said that the 12th Kruthan Loyalists have their origin in this time, as one of the numerous pro-Imperium militias which fought against the traitors in the capital Hive City of Andrum. It is said that following the Imperial victory, many of the members of the militia would volunteer for the Imperial Guard and go on to fight for the Emperor across the greater Imperium.

The regiment is known for its skills in urban warfare as well as its unyielding zeal in the Imperium and ferocity in battle. They are highly skilled urban fighters owing to their origin as a Hive World regiment but also possess skills as mountain fighters due to the mountainous terrain of Kruthan. They are also known for the brutality they inflict upon those perceived as traitors, there have been cases where commanders and commissars have to restrain them from exacting their vengeance upon a treasonous population.

Regimental Culture: Despite its august reputation the bulk of the regiments population actually stem from the underhives of Hive Andrum. Though they are of low origins none can deny the ferocious loyalty and fighting prowess of these savage underhivers. Owing to their origins much of their regimental culture is coloured by that of their origin. They speak in a dialect of Kruthanian spoken in that particular underhive and hold to many similar customs and beliefs. They often hold to several of the folk saints popular in the underhive and are known to be prone to vice and for holding generational grudges over percieved slights as well as being generally friendly to those they see as friends but utterly ruthless to enemies.

One defining aspect of the regiment is the almost ubiquitous allegiance to a particular fraternity known as the Order of Saint Gryme. This is one of the Imperial Cult Brotherhoods which exists upon the planet of Kruthan, groups dedicated to the cultivation of faith in the Emperor, mutual support, and loyalty to Kruthan and the Imperium. Practically all members of the Proud Twelvers is a member of this religious brotherhood, all are sworn to be loyal to it and their fellow brothers, and to keep its secrets from outsiders. They teach the story of St Gryme and promote a highly austere and militant version of the Imperial Cult, following the common interpretation of the Kruthan Ecclesiarchy.

As a whole, the regiments culture is that of contradictions. They come from a savage, war torn hellscape of poverty which breeds immense ferocity and indiscipline, yet also have never once been known to suffer mass desertion or similar. They are known for their intense loyalty to the Imperium and zealous adherence to the Imperial cult. Yet are also known for being little better than drilled hive gangers with all that entails. They're an odd bunch.

Notable Campaigns:

The Siege of Dora:
The siege of Dora was a protracted conflict on the rebelling Agri-World of Salamir IV. The local cardinal had assumed the governorship and declared independence from the Imperium in the Emperors name, in response, the 12th Kruthan Loyalist Regiment along with other regiments were sent to deal with the rebels. They were joined by contingents of the Order of the Bloody Rose, who joined the campaign to bring to heel what they saw as a dangerous heresy, they fought together for many years until the final siege of the final rebel stronghold of Dora.

Following a four-year siege of the city, the Imperial Forces would secure the cities surrender, unfortunately for them the 12th was taken by a zeal enthused bloodlust, fragged their commissars for trying to reign them in, and proceeded to ransack the rebelling city. The survivors fled to the local cathedral which was then brutally stormed, those seeking shelter massacred, and the building itself destroyed. The Sisters of Battle were appalled by what they saw as a desecration of a holy site, and attempted to intervene, leading to violence between the two fighting forces.

What followed was a series of bitter clashes which saw both forces fighting in the ruined streets of the city. Both sides shedding the blood of those they fought alongside not too long prior. This state of violence would continue until the overall commander of the Imperial Army deployed on the planet forcibly put an end to the conflict. Much to the sisters dismay however, only a relatively light punishment was inflicted on the 12th with only the most egregious of offenders being punished. This conflict permanently set the regiment at odds with the sisters of battle and the two organisations still hold to this old grudge.

Trivia:

-The Order of Saint Gryme is named for the Kruthan folk saint of Saint Gryme. Saint Gryme was a young man who joined with the rebellion against the planets ancient xenos overlords. When he was an old man, the heretics would attempt to rebel, and Saint Gryme would join the Loyalist Militias to resist the traitors and was martyred in doing so.

-The Pious Fraternities of the Kruthans are always subject to scrutiny and suspicion by outsiders. Barred from the inner proceedings, outsiders often speak of dark rituals and hidden acts, causing the Kruthans to be viewed with suspicion. The Twelfth are no exception, with many questioning what exactly goes on behind the scenes of these hidden fraternity meetings.

-The Twelfth maintains that they did not fire upon the Sisters of Battle until fired upon first. They do however maintain that they won the ensuing conflict due to their greater experience in urban warfare (along with a variety of creative insults directed at the Sisters prowess in battle).

-Like many Kruthan Loyalist Regiments the twelfth are known for their custom of taking trophies from defeated enemies. This can include a variety of things such as clothing, body parts, valuable items, and more. This custom caused controversy when officers and guardsmen following the Siege of Dora were found with trophies taken from the Sisters of Battle including purity seals, bolted shells, and items of clothing.

Decided to write up a Homebrew Regiment for the first planet I wrote.

Actually, there is one "problem" in case of Angels Crusaders.

They're Fleet-based Chapter, which means that their Chapter's Flagship (effectively) doubles as Fortress-Monastery

So far the Mist Shrikes have been doing a pretty good job too, which just makes Gerard look even worse given his incredibly outspoken hostility to us. Especially now, after we gave them a fucking Strike Cruiser for free while our own fleet remained woefully understrength.

I should hope that this particular Battle Barge isn't the Chapter's Fortress-Monastery. Because if it was... Gerard is going to be fucking reamed when he gets home. And the Chapter as a whole will be crippled from the loss of vital records and resources

Nice littel tidbit. Bonus to willpower for the next Kruthan regiment you fight with.

The Wrath of the Lion is not the Angels Crusader flagship, its "just" one of their other Battle-Barges. Their main flagship is the Emperor's Realm.

yeah being agressive like this for no reason even though the shrikes have been polite and respectfull is gonna bite em in the ass

[X] Plan No (Warp)Soup for You
-[X] The Orbital Ring: The megastructure where the Eyes of the Mutator ships are built. While the possibility of them having functional ships that they haven't used against you is nil, the area is undoubtedly heavily automated.
--[X] 10th Squad Captain Secutor and Full Command Squad, 1/4th the Yamunan Gravekeepers, Half of the Smilnay Forces,
1/2 the Seibourc Royals, 1/2 the Durrutian Volunteers, 1/2 the Angels Revenant, 1/2 the Angels Crusaders, 1/2 of Shrikes 2nd Company, Tomb Champion Spatha
---[X]
The Angels Crusader representative will be in command due to their experience and specialty, but make it very clear that the previously demonstrated frivolous willingness (be more diplomatic than that) to spend Imperial blood will not be tolerated, and formal action will be taken if losses are unnecessarily high.
-[X] The Temple of the Ninety-Nine Altars: A temple the treacherous sons of the Vth had built in honour to their foul god. With the Sorcerer's Tower destroyed, it is also the only place remaining from where the Heretics can enact their rituals with a modicum of success.
--[X] Mist Shrikes Squad 10-3 & Lt Iosephus + Shrikes Inquisitorial Escort, Chapter Master Severus and Honor Guard, All of Shrikes 3rd Company, 1/2 of Shrikes 2nd Company, Tomb Master Domitian, 2 Thunderhawks, 3 Rhinos, 2 Whirlwinds, 1/4th the Yamunan Gravekeepers, Inquisitor Durante Clerici and Retinue, Entire Order of the Thorned Spear, 1/2 the Spartos Artillery, 1/2 the Seibourc Royals, 1/2 the Durrutian Volunteers, All the Boshinese Rikoguns, 1/2 the Angels Crusaders
---[X] Unless there is significant objection, Chapter Master Severus will command this segment.
-[X] The Ninefold Forge: Contrary to initial observations, further reconnaissance has revealed that the industrial complex on site is not manned by the Chaos Marine, but by a detachment of Dark Mechanicum from…somewhere. Attackers on these locations can expect both daemon engines and other kinds of heavy armor.
--[X] Mist Shrikes Squad 10-2 + 10-7 and Lt Lanista, 2 Storm Ravens, Land Raider, 1 Whirlwind, 1 Razorback, 1 Predator; 1/4th the Yamunan Gravekeepers, Half of the Smilnay Forces, All the Carolean Guard, 1/2 the Spartos Artillery, All the Mucednik Guard, All the Blazing Wardens, 1/2 the Angels Revenant
---[X]
General Morner is in command here, with Astartes and Smilnay serving as independent detachments but politely requested to cooperate.
-[X] Zenwhei: The southern city, and a location that is far more out of the way than the other urban centers on the planet. It is a tertiary target, but a daring recon flight from one of the Navy's Valkyries has revealed that a force of Eyes of the Mutator and Dark Mechanicum are moving towards it.
--[X] Mist Shrikes Squad 10-1 + 10-6, 1/4th the Yamunan Gravekeepers, All the Inquisitor Seble Bereket and Retinue, All the Zatloczony Rifles,
1/2 of Shrikes 2nd Company, 2 Thunderhawks, 2 Storm Ravens

---[X] The Yamunan Gravekeepers are in command of this action.
-[X] Scouting Elements and Saboteurs first: Assets such as Veteran Scouts and Light Infantry land first, followed by the rest of forces.
-[X] All unlisted elements such as Tanks, Artillery, Valkyries, and so forth will be discussed and politely debated in this council, but otherwise left to the discretion of their commanding officers.
-[X] Champion Yeretai is free to choose his own deployment, so long as he is willing to accept an honor guard. It would be an ironic shame for him to be freed and prepared for war once more, only to die here. Assign Apothecary Sarjanovic, the Shrike Inquisitorial Escort, and a Shrike Storm Raven to him.
-[X] Unlisted Shrikes assets will be assigned where Severus thinks they can do the most good.

Okay, here's the basic plan;
---This plan is devoted to focusing our efforts on preventing any sorcerous Warp bullshit and crippling their armor assets, hopefully crippling their ability to do shenanigans in one go. It also attempts to strike a balance between what everyone wants and what everyone gets.

---I also tried to take into account various voter feedbacks and comments, some fairly good ideas going around.

---I don't want the Angels Crusader to throw a complete fit, so I'm going to assign them to command the Orbital Ring with enough forces to both fully support them and enough Astartes to significantly outnumber them. Force them to actually act like the armored spearhead they want to be, and confine them to space to limit their ability to indulge in fuckery. 1/2 of Smilnay comes here as requested.
---The Temple goes to our elites, and the rest of the Crusaders are kept under our watchful eye..
---The Forge goes to our anti-armor forces, and the highest-ranking Imperial Guardsman gets command. Salamanders get to do their thing, and artillery is spread between this and the Temple.
---I want to know what the fuck is hidden at that secondary city, so a force of Shrikes, Inquisitorials, and fast movers gets assigned there.
---I ain't gonna tell a White Scars Champion what to do, for the most part. So long as he takes precautions, he can go where he's needed.

---As with previous plans, let professionals allocate their own assets.

---I want to attempt to spare lives with good sabotage, so choosing that option.

EDIT: Also, splitting up certain Imperial Guard units to either exploit inter-regimental rivalries build friendships (Royals and Volunteers) or hopefully avoid a complete wipe (the Rebuilding Regiments ones)

@Noroboro and @Nicholas Brooks In particular, your feedback and/or iterations on the plan would be welcome. All are invited to criticize as well.

To be honest I can't really think of a way to significantly improve this plan. Beyond micro-ing the Guard regiments in the pursuit of maximum specialty usage, but that is unlikely to have any mechanical effect anyway tbh.
I feel like the Mechanicus should have some role in the attacks on the orbital ring and forge.
...They do. Half of Smilnay's forces are going to the ring, and the other half are going to the forge.

Edit: God damn it, ninja'd. Or Alpharius'd in this case.
