Loyalty is its own Reward (A Traitor Legion Chapter Master Quest)

Rather funny for a GC vet position to be in when other GC vets could be like that one demanding to commandeer the vessel.
True. Though that by and large depends on the personality of the veteran in question. Severus happens to be both not a total asshole and not a complete idiot, so he's able to understand that shit works differently in this era compared to the Great Crusade.

Present: Today the world is a bustling hive world whose main export is its own people. Uncountable numbers are sold off or tithed to the greater Imperium as slaves or indentured servants. Each to serve some sort of task within the Imperium. The lords and master of the planet are known to be very proud of their genetic stocks as well as the immense wealth their sale of flesh brings them.
To quote a bird man from TTS. "Oh... oh this I hate."

---[X] Unless there is significant objection, Chapter Master Severus will command this segment.
-[X] The Ninefold Forge: Contrary to initial observations, further reconnaissance has revealed that the industrial complex on site is not manned by the Chaos Marine, but by a detachment of Dark Mechanicum from…somewhere. Attackers on these locations can expect both daemon engines and other kinds of heavy armor.

-[X] Zenwhei: The southern city, and a location that is far more out of the way than the other urban centers on the planet. It is a tertiary target, but a daring recon flight from one of the Navy's Valkyries has revealed that a force of Eyes of the Mutator and Dark Mechanicum are moving towards it.
--[X] Mist Shrikes Squad 10-1 + 10-6, 1/4th the Yamunan Gravekeepers, All the Inquisitor Seble Bereket and Retinue, All the Zatloczony Rifles,
---[X] The Yamunan Gravekeepers are in command of this action.
-[X] Scouting Elements and Saboteurs first: Assets such as Veteran Scouts and Light Infantry land first, followed by the rest of forces.
-[X] All unlisted elements such as Tanks, Artillery, Valkyries, and so forth will be discussed and politely debated in this council, but otherwise left to the discretion of their commanding officers.
-[X] Champion Yeretai is free to choose his own deployment, so long as he is willing to accept an honor guard. It would be an ironic shame for him to be freed and prepared for war once more, only to die here. Assign Apothecary Sarjanovic, the Shrike Inquisitorial Escort, and a Shrike Storm Raven to him.
-[X] Unlisted Shrikes assets will be assigned where Severus thinks they can do the most good.

@ThunderOwl a few questions:

4. will we be able to set up hidden outposts on other worlds in the sector?
5. what bonuses do senior chaplains offer?
6. did any uncorrupted Wind Watchers survive, like in deathwatch?
7. how long until our lexicani become proper librarians, how long does it usually take?
8. aside from Lezo, Gidar, and Boshin. what other planets have officers in high places?
9. what exactly happened with lord admiral Adherbal's son?

1. are the 2nd and 7th captains of the Angels Revenant blood relatives?
Olin is Irrin's Great-Great-Granduncle
2. will the Tau ever attempt to invade our sector?
No. They have to go through a lot of Sectors to reach the Aetelian Sector
3. will we be able to intervene with the incident involving the Celestial Lions?
The Third War for Armageddon is in the 900's so theres quite some time until then. Also, with your ties to the Inquisition, don't assume that your intervention would help them.
4. will we be able to set up hidden outposts on other worlds in the sector?
No.
5. what bonuses do senior chaplains offer?
They have higher stats than regular Chaplains.
6. did any uncorrupted Wind Watchers survive, like in deathwatch?
There were a few in the Deathwatch who became Blackshields, but they are all dead in the current day.
7. how long until our lexicani become proper librarians, how long does it usually take?
Next turn for the first batch. Normally training lasts 5 turns, but taking them into combat trains them sooner.
8. aside from Lezo, Gidar, and Boshin. what other planets have officers in high places?
There are captains from multiple more planets, but Admirals are overwhelmingly Lezoan or Gadiran, with one or two Boshineses in.
9. what exactly happened with lord admiral Adherbal's son?
Will be detailed in the turn results.

Far from Home
Far from Home.

In all of Drummonds years, he had never once left the violent slums and poverty of the underhives. Every day since the day he was born that was his life, a life of constant struggle and desperation, fighting tooth and nail for every scrap of food and the barest resources, made to kowtow to whichever gang or petty warlord made his home their territory all the while dodging gang wars, feral beasts or mutants, and the myriad of environmental hazards which afflicted the underhives.

Now though, now he was far from the underhive, far from the life he had known all his years. For the first time he had been freed from that desolate pit, he'd seen the incomprehensively densely packed upper hives, had tasted the toxic air of the wastelands outside the hives, had set foot upon his worlds dead soil, and for the first time in his life saw the majesty of the sun.

It was wonderful, it was terrifying, to be away from everything he had ever known. Far from the gangland wars and mutant monstrosities. Far from the toxic industrial run off and the ever present hive quakes. It was, a lot to get used to to say the least.

Now, he was to be transported off world for the first time in his life, to a whole other stellar body. The Moon which orbits his homeworld, Rathan. Before he was recruited to the PDF, he didn't even know they had a Moon.

He and a host of other recruits had been herded into one of the great trams which travelled throughout the hive, they had been packed like livestock, by the time they reached their destination he had felt as though he was dying of thirst and he was damn certain a few of his weaker recruits had in fact died on the way. Once they were released they were herded towards the Hives main space port and from there, corralled onto the transports heading to the Rathan.

Drummond had no idea what to expect, yet he was still struck with awe by what he saw when he landed, he had no idea a land could be so… empty. The world was just endless wastelands, in all directions as far as the eye could see, just endless grey landscapes with a scarce few buildings or signs of civilisation. It was terrifying, foreboding, and he knew his fellow hivers felt the same as they stared off dumbly into the endless expanse.

This wouldn't last for long though, for they were moved to a wide, flat road stretching off far into the distance and ordered to march. So, they did, a few grumbled at this but the guards beat them bloody for their trouble, so they marched, and marched, and marched, and marched into the far distance. It went on for hours and Drummond felt like was about to go mad the longer the trip went. The marching wasn't the issue, though it was tiring, he could do it. No, the problem was the emptiness. All around was miles upon miles upon miles of empty wasteland. Just seas of grey that carried on forever. It was oppressive, it felt suffocating and ominous, like some unseen threat was gazing at them the whole time and there was nowhere to run or to hide.

So when he finally saw traces of human civilisation in the distance, he was ecstatic, and his enthusiasm carried him on to his destination. What was they found was a compound filled with armed guards wearing the uniform of the Kruthan Volunteer Forces. They were swiftly escorted to an open space in the centre of the compound and ordered to line up. The group was huge, but smaller than it had been, some had not survived the journey.

Before them on a high podium surrounded by guards stood a woman, she looked to be in her mid-thirties with a stocky build and dark hair tied into a bun, she was beautiful in a gruff way though he could tell that it was fake. She wore a well decorated officers uniform of the Volunteers as well as a look of utter distain on her face.

She made to speak and all the haggard and tired men turned to her and listened.

"You are here because you have made the decision to be recruited into the honourable Kruthan Volunteer Force as any true son of Kruthan should. I am Lady Alica of House Orr, I joined the volunteers when I was a girl of sixteen and since then I have served honourably for more than forty years. I am here now to tell you that you wretches are nothing, you are the bare minimum, the wretches and scum of the underhive risen up to do your duty. It is my job to turn you feral animals into something vaguely human, worthy of serving the Emperor and Kruthan."

The speech caused some grumbling among the others, but they were just so tired that they couldn't muster the effort to do much beyond that. The words filled Drummond with an indignant rage but he suppressed it and continued to listen.

"You will be broken and remade, you will be instilled with discipline or die in the attempt, you will be made worthy of the oaths to defend Kruthan from all threats foreign and domestic in the Emperors name and some among you may prove worthy of fighting for the Emperor among the stars as his Loyalists. You will be escorted to your accommodations shortly, your training shall begin on the morrow. You are not ready." She finished her statement and quietly made her way off the podium.

He and his fellows were quickly escorted to their barracks, a series of cramped housing units with each man given a small bunk of their own. He was given his assigned bunk and was left to think. This was it, there was no going back now, he would either become a soldier of the Emperor or return home in disgrace, or die.

He knew what would be the outcome.

Hey gang happy 400 pages of this quest story and to dedicate this I salvaged a speech I scraped for my newest planet

Address to the Workers and Citizens of Liberty's Rest by General-Commissar Reed Horner

Comrades of Syndra Libertas,

In these trying times, we find ourselves at a crossroads, a moment of reckoning, not only for our world, but for all of humanity. The Imperium, our Emperor, and our collective will are under threat from those who seek to undermine the unity of our great civilization. But we—we, the workers, the soldiers, and the faithful of Liberty—will not falter, for we are bound by a singular, unbreakable bond: our loyalty to the Emperor and our unyielding devotion to the people of the Imperium.

Today, we stand together, not as mere subjects of an empire, but as proud defenders of the Emperor's vision, a vision in which each of us, as laborers, soldiers, and citizens, plays a vital role. We are the hands that forge the weapons of war, the hearts that keep the fires of industry burning, and the will that defends the Emperor's realm from those who would see it torn asunder.

But we are more than just servants to the Imperium; we are builders of the future! The labor of our people, the sweat of our brows, the blood of our soldiers—all are in service to the greater glory of mankind. The Emperor's light shines brightly upon us, not because we are weak and passive in His name, but because we rise together as one, united by the cause of humanity's survival.

It is in the factories, the trenches, the streets, and the fields that we collectively uphold the Emperor's throne. It is in our shared effort, our boundless unity, that we prove our loyalty to Him. For what is loyalty but the commitment to the wellbeing of the collective, to the defense of the people, to the protection of our future?

We are not pawns. We are the hands of the Emperor's justice, the collective force that will see His enemies crushed beneath our boots. We do not fight for a distant throne, nor for the glory of a single man; we fight for the safety of every citizen, for the freedom of every worker, for the triumph of the Imperium as a whole. The Emperor's reign is our collective responsibility, and it is through our unity and sacrifice that His light will endure.

Look around you, comrades! Every cog in our great machine, every worker in our fields, every soldier in our ranks—each of us plays a role in ensuring the Imperium's strength. Together, we are greater than the sum of our parts. Together, we will rise above the storms of war and bring forth victory for the Emperor and for the future of mankind.

So I call upon you, comrades of Syndra Libertas: Take up your arms, your tools, your voices. Stand firm as the mighty shield that protects humanity's last hope. Let our collective strength show the enemies of the Emperor that they will not find us divided, for we are united by the flame of duty, the force of industry, and the unbreakable spirit of our people.

For the Emperor! For the People! For Liberty's Rest! Glory to the Imperium!

The Ska'min Horde (Potential Foes)
Ordo Xenos

Inquisitorial Report SKN243195

"The Ska'min Horde"

Threat Leve
l: Xenos Majoris

Overview:

First Sighting:
In 354.M36 the agri world of Merdon III in the Maltoria Sector of the Segmentum Tempestus started reporting strange disturbances: crops started dying, people started disappearing, and equipment started malfunctioning. Five months after these disturbances started taking place all contact with the planet was lost. Inquistorial fleet Sentinel was sent to investigate, when they arrived in system, they tried to contact the space station they got no response even though auspecs did pick up that it was both in system and in one piece. Just as they were getting in visual range of the planet the defense station open fired on the fleet destroying the Cruiser "Foehammer", in a single shot, this was unexpected because the defense station didn't have any weapons that could destroy a crusier in a single shot much less one that had its void shield up. Moment's latter several dozen ships of a variety of classes ranging from frigate sized vessels to a single battle cruiser sized vessel appeared and from behind Merdon III's moon charging the fleet. Having finally collected their wits Task force Sentinel turned to face this enemy which at first believed to be a band of rather kunning Orks on account of their ram shackled appearance but after visual inspecition of both the ships and the station did not reveal any signs of ork or even chaos symbols, this new threat was what would latter be discovered to be the Ska'min horde. The ensuing battle was brutual with both sides making heavy losses. At many points during the battle some Ska'min ships seemed to explode for no apparent reason with even the weapons on the defense station exploding while it was firing at the imperial fleet. After most of the fleets destruction the remaining ships ether turned tail and ran or started firing on their own ships as well. Task force sentinel was able to disable and capture one of the enemy frigates where they were able to learn about the Ska'min as a race. When the fleet sent forces down to the planet, they found very few surviving human those that had been alive having been turned into slaves for the Xenos.

Biology: The Ska'min resembles humanoid rats in appearance almost exactly. Most Ska'min have mud brown fur, their psykers always have white fur, their priests almost always have grey fur, and their most elite soldiers have black fur. The Ska'min don't have a very long-life span with the average lifespan of a Ska'min being 40 terran years although their psykers tend to live longer with many being seen to live for centuries. They are faster than the average human although they are very easy to kill, and like rats they reproduce very fast.

Government: The Ska'min don't have a central government with the fact that the Ska'min by their very nature backstab and betray each other every chance they get. The closest thing the ska'min have to a proper government are the 8 ruling clans although they are closer to a community then an actual government. Clan leaders almost never work together with the few times they came close to uniting someone usually throws an insult and the clans go right back to fighting each other. The only beings that the ska'min wont actively scheme against are their Vornu priests dedicated to their foul God Ska'vornu which in their language translates to "Great Horned One", these priests are often seen as the mouthpieces of Ska'vornu as such it as seen as the highest form of treason to scheme against the Vornu priests. Vornu priest are distinguishable by the horns that grow on their head, the bigger the horns the more highly regarded the priests are. The clans of the Ska'min a dictated based on the color of a Ska'mins tail, for instance if a ska'min has a white tail they belong to Clan Skak, if they have a pink tail they belong the Clan Vistu, etc. each clan has its own specialty when it cones to fighting, with some clans favoring the use of psykers in battle or as they are known "White Lords", others prefer the use of genecially modified Ska'min war beasts made out of the corpses of dead ska'min. Most of the time the Ska'min divided and their contrantly fighting over who should be the most powerful and when a warlord does end up uniting them said leader is often killed within the first few months of their rule with the longest ruler lasting for just over a year before they were betrayed.

Culture: The culture of the Ska'min is poorly understood in many aspects but Ska'min culture seems to revolve around 4 main aspects Betrayal, Decay, Greed, and Hate. These aspects drive the Ska'min race, and they are present in their very beings. All Ska'min are always scheming to attain more power and influence, this leads to a near endless cycle of betrayal among every single level of their society from the lowest slave to the highest warlord. Their God the Ska'vornu is said to be the embodiment of Hate, Decay, Betrayal, and Greed, and that he wants the Ska'min to rise up and take the galaxy as his chosen species, the xenos take the Ska'vornus word as law and it seems to be the only thing the xenos actually listen to without question. It is quite clear that this "Ska'vornu" is just the Chaos Gods but it doesn't seem like the Xenos even know or care. The Ska'min also enslave almost every single sentient they capture even their own people, those that they dont eat of course.

Technology: Almost all Ska'min technology is based upon what has been revealed to be solidified warp energy (see file "Warpstone"), how the Ska'min created this is a mystery and despite their being evidence to the contrary and the Ska'mins own worship of the chaos gods, its doubtful the Ruinous powers were involved in the creation of this technology. The solidified warp energy takes the form a green crystals that often give off electrical arc's when in use. Ska'min has no concept of safety as all Ska'min tech is extremely unreliable with the possibility of violently exploding. This has often resulted in many of their casualties taken during battles to be caused by their own tech. Ska'min also have a tendency of capturing and "upgrading" tech from other races with their own given it increased power but with a high likelihood of blowing up. Ska'min warp travel is believed to some of the fastest of any known xenos race with the few times that it has been able to be viewed, the Ska'min ships often arrive before or right as the leave, although that just when their ships actually emerge from the warp because despite the speed of their warp travel its still Ska'min tech as such 50% of the time their ships never reemerge from the warp.

Homeworld: Unknown, the Ska'min homeworld is unknown although based on intelligence captured from Ska'min ships their homeworld is still around, however it is hidden in what the Ska'min called the "Yellow sky", this is possibly the reference to ether a nebula or a gas giant.

Tacticus Report: Due to constant betrayals and in fighting most of the time the Ska'min are more focused on fighting each other than fighting other species. When they do attack, however, their attacks are as variable in devastation as the xenos are, going from minimal in damage to being extremely devastating, sometimes taking place over the course of months to merely a few days or even hours in length. The Ska'min usually attacks with raiding fleets, most of which are small fleets of Ska'min pirates who want the thrill of fighting something new. When the Xenos vermin actual stop fighting each other and unite under a single war lord, one of their horde fleets will appear and can often devastate whole systems if left unchecked. In both the void and on the ground Ska'min favor swarm tactics against their enemies to great effect. Thankfully the Ska'min tendency to betray each other often comes at the most random times and they may start fighting each other before they even go for their intended targets. The longest Ska'min horde has gone without betraying each other is 4 months. During these betrayals the xenos will ether destroy themselves or they will shatter into several smaller fleets and go off in different direction to attack and consume all they can. Its recommended that when a Ska'min fleet is spotted that no ship escapes as they will require little time to rebuild.

Final Report:

Overall, despite their devastating potential the Ska'min horde is not as big of a priority as other xenos races. Their tendency to fight amongst themselves will inevitably cause them to cull themselves to manageable levels. When their hordes are encountered, destroying them is of the highest priority to make sure that they do not bring their devastation to whatever system they may find themselves in. If they can be tricked into attacking other xenos such as the Orks this will save resources of the imperium. Locating the Ska'min homeworld is of the highest priority.

Good to see this explored further. Canonized and you get a bonus when calling regiments from Kruthan

Really digging the speech, really catches that propagandistic feeling. Canonized. Bonus when asking for BP in Syndra Libertas.
Overall pretty nice-good, but I would prefer-like if the goverment-leadership structure wasn't just a copy-imitation of the Council of Thirteen yes-yes.

@ThunderOwl Got it I changed it so the council doesn't exist and it's just the 8 ruling clans although calling them the rulers of Ska'min society is a bit of a stretch

Anointed of the Machine (Potential Foes)
Anointed of The Machine

My kin in XVIIth Legion are worshipping The Pantheon, but they're too blind to see what Chaos Gods actually are.

Marines of Thrice-crippled Xth Legion are closest to truth, but they're praying to "False Machine" due to lies of The Corpse-Emperor.

What I knew and worshipped as Dark Apostle of The Pantheon, is just four Aspects of greater entity: The Machine

Thankfully, I managed to leave the Legion before they surely executed me for "blasphemy against the Pantheon", along those of my brothers that accepted the Truth.

We were "renegades without Legion", until we encountered descendants of Tenth Legion who "took the Black". They were understrength, due to recent losses from battle against scions of XIIth Legion, so they accepted our proposition to join them, especially that we had masses of various cultists & renegade Guardsmen with us.

At beginning, scions of Ferrus Manus didn't trust us, but through acts of fighting together against the same enemies and my natural charisma, I managed to turn them into me and my brothers' allies... and when their leader was killed by sons of Corax, into our servants and stalwart worshippers of The Machine.

I know that still there are many challenges before me, before whole galaxy finds truth about The Machine, and either will accepts to serve its Decrees or will be grinded down into ash by its gears.

I don't fear any of them, for I am Lux Ferro The First Anointed.

"Oh by the Emperor if I could die here I'd die a happy man..." a common visitors perspective of the planet.

"I am genuinely shocked I've found no pleasure cults here." Inquisitor De Wert on Xanadu.

The lush and idyllic moon of Xanadu stands as the premier paradise worlds of the Aetalian sector. It is a verdant garden world known for its beautiful natural scenery, from its majestic mountains and valleys, its famous blood red forests, to its perfect white beaches. The world was discovered during the middle of the 37th millennium and though its rulers initially attempted to turn it into a more typicaly world, they instead opted to lean into its beauty and transferred it entirely into a paradise world.

The world is host to the elites and nobility of a hundred worlds all across the sector and beyond. Housed in the most luxurious accommodations and waited on hand and foot by the native Xanaduans, who live their whole lives in service to these off-world notables serving their every whim. Xanadu is host to every pleasure one can imagine, from massive casinos where enough wealth to bankrupt some planets is won or lost in under a day, to great gladiatorial arenas where men and beasts fight for the entertainment of the crowds, to opulent pleasure houses were all manner of drugs are traded freely and exotic paramours from across the sector comfort their clients.

The world is ruled by a series of wealthy guilds and corporations, which control every asset and person on the planet, they are driven by profit first and foremost and thus take great care to preserve the natural beauty and stellar reputation of the planet. They spend an inordinate amount of money to both maintain the planets ecology as well as the vast infrastructure needed to keep it operational. Another major cause for concern is guest safety, the planet operates a large yet hidden security force which acts to protect guests from all manner of harm known as the Xanadu Security Service which act as a combination of pdf and secret services.

Trivia:

-The gambling houses and casinos of Xanadu are known for their aggressive methods of keeping guests coming back. To the point where many guests return to their homeworlds impoverished after the experience. Those caught cheating are punished severely, often losing hands or simply disappearing.

-There is an elaborate network of service tunnels and passage ways which span across the planet hidden from guest viewers. Which exist to maintain the planets infrastructure whilst not disrupting the guests. The planets native population typically live in these hidden areas, away from the prying eyes of guests, along with the planets own native industries as well as shrines to the Emperor.

-The local ecclesiarchy is divided between that which services the tourists and that which services the locals. The one which services the tourists typically dwell in master crafted temples which exalt the virtues of wealth. Those which service the locals serve in more humble abodes and exalt the virtue of serving the Emperors divinely appointed elites.

-Recently, there was an incident where a creature from Criton was brought to the planet to act as an attraction during gladiatorial games. The creature naturally escaped into the wilderness, rather than recapture it the Xanadu government opted to use it as an attraction during safaris, only after 27 men were lost trying to recapture the creature.

Just realised I don't recall anyone making a paradise world, so I rolled one.
