Basically comes down to if the British are willing to let Spain fall into France's hand their main rival in Europe. Without Britain support Portugal isn't gonna do anything. Add in the fact that the British very much want to stop France from gaining more power. I get the feeling they are gonna try stopping France from taking Spain.

Actually given that entire Spanish navy pretty much got away to new world and mainland Spain is pretty much in ruins (after the years of mismanagement) British shouldn't be invested in Iberia much.
Not to mention that prospect of France puppeting Spain will freak out almost every other European power and drive wedge between New World Spain and French reproachment which would make peace a much harder thing to achieve. If they are savy enough British diplomats can use this for creation of new coalition in the future, or at least to try and prolong the conflict. Also to minimize our gain's on negation table.
Plus, you know financing rebellion in Spain to drain at our resources and moral.
Continental Spain isn't important to the British as it is to French and stationing troops there for nothing but money drain isn't logical from their perspective. Expect if they don't do a crit fail on Spain.

Its more that if France can take Spain and actually make it useful is the fear for the British and Portugal. The British wouldn't control the land themselves but probably have Portugal control it and have an ally on the Mainland to go against France again in the future.
They'll probably do try what you suggested if they fail but if France controls Spain it makes it harder for the British to beat France. So if they can stop it and have a ally get stronger for later I think they'd do it.
I assume their Rolls get a Malus because of the heavy Defeats they suffered?

Then they met the US Marines.
To call what happened a rescue mission only, would be a great misnomer.
They took back what was stolen. All 200 American Ships. Over half the American Sailors and Captains who had been taken prisoner, to be processed back into the Royal Navy, to fight for the hated enemies of Americans.
Whose liberty was stolen?
The deed had been done with fire and Sword.
And Brave American men died to Make Men Free.

The Biggest threat to new Spain is the USA, whom they are "Allied" with to kill Brits.
After that it gets difficult.

Well, Prussia and Austria just collapsed and are asking for terms. Russia only sent a token force and I doubt they'd have any problems with say, a white peace, then wheeling around, going home, and counting all the money Britain paid them to do some walking.
