and by men who fear that change will strip them of power and who would do anything to ensure their power is not threatened.
THat to, especially men who believe that they are the only ones who can protect "The Republic"

their version of a republic.
We need to persuade Louis that, for the sake of France and to perserve the ideals of the revolution, he needs to take the throne in some capacity, even if he leaves the management of France in the hands of other people (like Napoleon, for instance). I hate doing this to him, but the situation has reached the point where we either do this, or gamble on being able to fight a potential coalition of all our enemies, a gamble that, if failed, will lead to the restoration of a Monarchy that is uninterested in preserving the ideals of the revolution and that works for the benefit of foreign powers, not for the benefit of France.
Louis: Do you have any idea how much I despise the throne. I'm ready to die if it means not sitting on the throne.
Another civil war ? Damn, either the current government win and the revolutionary state stay alive, Napoleon win and cement his power leading to maybe an French Empire sooner than we expected or a compromise happen with one of the kids being reinstalled as king.
THe problem with this civil war... it can get bad. Very Bad if the rest of Europe decide to bring forward the next coalition to restore the Monarchy come.

And that means shit will get really fucking bad.
I really want a moment where Therese meets the Army of The North and do a Napoleon moment.
While the possibility is small, the recruits know she's the Heroine of Valmy and one of their own. The problem is, they are fresh recruits, so that means they do not have the connection to her like the Vetrans do.

But if you play up to a myth? Your Myth? That is possible.
I REALLY don't think that putting Louis on the Throne in ANY form is a good Idea. The kid's already suicidal. If we force this on him, it will push him over the edge. And I doubt he'll ever do it voluntarily.

Said it before, will say it again: The time for the First French Empire has come. Vive la France and Vive la Empereur!
We don't even know how they plan to reorganize the republic.

It might not be an empire.
The first French Republic was many things, chief among them, it was a very poor representation of its own ideals, hell the French empire was a much better representation, and it was an autocracy.
Like I said, the ideas of the Revolution, rather then the actual revolution itself.
You represented it quite well, note at the end where I said this one is a literal dumpster fire, the original one didn't tear itself in two, at least not to this extent.
Well, that's what happens when some people live longer then OTL.

Things get really fucking dicey.
Between the rolls he gets for being Napoleon, I'll take my chances.
Also, at this point he doesn't have a high bar to cross.
Well the problem is, he still needs to cross the bar first before we can say he's any better.
Another solution is to have Napoleon as consul-for life, Lord-protector or dictator (at this point, the title does not have the negative connotation it has today), with well defined powers balanced by an elected assembly (phased in after France is stable). His position to be held after him by his chosen heir (among a group to be dfined by future constitution), who has to be approved by assembly. COnstitution of said assembly and power of government to be decided in the future (and possibly to evolve - ie very powerful central figure for Napoleon initially, more independent government and assembly later).
Well I have a few ideas how to do that, but we can also affect the future constitution, and many other things if possible.
This gives us stability and democracy. With the olive Branch to the royalist that Louis could possibly still rule later (if he wants).
I still think a young louis would see it as being offered a crown.
Yeah I don't see us stopping the Empire, merely determining what it looks like.
Correct.
Anyway, shit is on fire. Again. Although with our side having better trained, more experienced and just plain more soldiers, things are dicey for the Queen of Hearts impersonator in Paris.
It does not mean we will not see nasty shit to come.

Especially if our dear friends in Britain decide to do some shit.
Or alternatively, we could just have Napoleon adopt the royals and gain legitimacy that way.
That too.
Oh that would be awesome. Only problem it might have is they are recruits. So they might not know her enough to do it.
Well once again, we can play up the legend.
Bessières is a boot-licking toadie, unsuited for High Command so we need not worry about him.
He's also competent, perhaps not in high command, but he is someone whom can command forces well. If not excelently.
Soult is a world class plunderer and a good defensive general but he often failed to adapt his plans to deal with changing circumstances and the other marshals hated his guts.
A man that is hard to work with.

THat is really going to help unit cohesion and trust among the Republics' generals.
Adam Philippe got executed in the OTL, although Robespierre did defend him in an early trial but trial only happened due to Dumouriez treachery which never happened here. He was strict disciplinarian, whoever he was well like by his soldiers. His major flaws were his enormous Vanity, his failure to see flaws in his plans and his bad habit of denouncing other generals. So Robespierre likely appealed to his Vanity.
Correct.
Auguste de Marmont and Jacques MacDonald when on to serve the bourbon kings in OTL so they are backing Robespierre because they are loyal to the state not to Robespierre himself.
Loyal to the state before anything else. That is a good trait to have.
The only one I can't understand serving Robespierre is Desaix. The only thing I can think of is him still being loyal to Philippe who raised him up.
I would argue he's not doing all this willingly, at least in some way.

He proboly saw what happened to Kellerman and couldn't flee.

Heres hoping we can save Kellerman before he gets sent to the Razor.
Because we're an unmarried woman in the 18th century. People would not react too well due to sexism
We're also possibly one of the most famous people in France, and well known throughout Europe. So it's also that.
Who is in charge of the Army of the Pyrenees?
General d'Aoust and Pearigon.
What type of Military government should we install after the civil war is over, since it seems to be the only government we can have?
THat will be something you can decide.
Speaking of military governments, I wonder how a society where a military isn't just the government, but the entire society, would look like. As in, there is no civilian populace at all. There's still all the civilian jobs, but everyone who does them do so as part of the military.
A Very Dysfunctional one.

Civilians and none combatants will always be a thing, and not even forging an army with a state mentality like Prussia will help with that.
I am actually a fan of King Louis... but like, adult Louis, who has a wealth of real word experience. A revolutionary king, if you will.
Louis: One more time and I shoot myself.
Vive l'Empereur! Vive l'Empire, et Vive la France!
Vive la France!

The same Brits who were in such a state that they felt that giving up 80 ships and 15 million pounds per annum was preferable to staying at war with France?
First off it was 40 ships, second off, there is a new government in town in London.

One that is keen to basically say, "Fuck the Treaty, we just needed time to get shit together" :V :V

A.N.: Not sure if this Counts as a Media-Omake, but I wanted to make it anyway even if it doesn't.

Well I will not give a reward, but I will threadmark it, because it works.

DO NOT PUT LOUIS IN ANY POSITION OF non-military POWER CLOSE TO A MONARCY/IMPERIUM if you don't want him to play Russian Roulette with a musket.

Also, things are going to get really, REALLY dicey in the future...

I'm just waiting for Therese returning and going " What. The. FUCK. Are you idiots doing?" And everyone trembling at our dissapointed glare and 50k veteran troops + other 50k that will return soon.

Considering how well they rolled so far... Double the number of ships they lose and create a Scot-Irish independent republic. Let's see them being cheeky when they got a land border to an ally of ours!
Inb4 Britain takes over all of India 40 years early.

That is a truth.

we are the mom to the entire French Army now.

Hmmm could we use the veterans to help turn the recruits? Add in playing into our legend it might work. Also which part of the legend do we play up?

We probably could.

...Also, I just remembered that @Magoose wrote waaaaay back when a Future!AU-Omake where Therese is present when Napoleon pulls his 'Soldiers, don't you recognize me?'-Move when he returns to France. If we actually manage to pull the same with the Northern Army in this Civil War, I can imagine her in that Future!Au seeing her Husband walk forward, realize what he's about to do and think "Oh great, now he's copying me...".

Don't get too invested in becoming the head of state: Magoose has stated before that the quest is always going to be about a Marshal in the Napoleonic era, steering the ship of state is never going to be a focus.

Head of the Grand Army, on the other hand...

Yeah really it's a given Theresa's side will win in this civil war, it's a question of how much damage is done, and how much everyone else jumps down our throat in the meantime. And what exactly IS our side.

It's notable that while the French government collapsing into civil war like this it's bad for the nation, our personal standing will rise. Moving fresh from victory in Italy to playing kingmaker, literally, in France.

We probably see like the angel of victory to the French public and the military in general. Moving from victory on the battlefield to stopping a civil war. We'll cast a long shadow after this whatever happens.

Marrying Napoleon would be a good way to fully cement this and get us an Imperial Regime. Frankly it's rather telling that Napoleonic France did rather well for itself, as did the Imperial Revival under Napoleon the 3rd. Both met defeats, eventually, but achieved fairly impressive results prior to this.

Napoleon has given up hope for the republic, and I don't see him stopping short of a full autocratic powers for himself. Trying to moderate him seems the only bet for curbing his ambitions short of removing him from power himself something best done as a his spouse.

As others have noted we'd be a poor choice for administration ourselves, but that's a thing you can delegate.

I just hope that we are able to put an end to Robespierre's treason quickly, before our enemies are able to take advantage of the matter. Napoleon can be Emperor of France after this because clearly we can't have nice things like democracy right now. At least we'll probably be able to get him to write up a constitution to avoid power abuses down the line. Maybe. Hopefully.

The problems are twofold: 1. What's France to be like after Napoleon leaves power? 2. What's going to stop Napoleon from getting steamrolled once everyone else in Europe learns from his reforms and leverages their economic superiority?

Fix these and things are pretty well settled.
