Pope: I excommunicate you.
Thérèse: Sorry I heard, "hey Thérèse; come loot the Vatican and lock me in the stocks dressed only in my undergarments to be pelted with rotten fruit like a common criminal."
Pope: You wouldn't dare hurt God's representative on Earth.
Thérèse: Oh what are you going to do? Double excommunicate me?
Pope: God will be most displeased.
God: Hey don't bring me into this, you brought this on yourself.
Severin shall be taking applications for the Lutheran Church. And Joly is not sure if he is allowed to be angry at the Pope since he's a good (excommunicated) Catholic boy.

Severin shall be taking applications for the Lutheran Church. And Joly is not sure if he is allowed to be angry at the Pope since he's a good (excommunicated) Catholic boy.
If I remember history when the Pope got deposed in OTL it was a rather peaceful affair. Basically a French army marched entirely unopposed into Rome, proclaimed a republic and demanded he give up his temporal authority. When he refused he was basically manhandled out of the city.
Oh yeah doing this to the lady that just took Sicily easily with a big army and Navy that is still in Sicily....Yeah don't know what you were thinking Pope.

The Trials for the rapist of the 14th brigade, Sargent Jean Phillipe, was the only trial you presided over as judge. It was a trial that you did not need to preside over, there were other lower-ranking officers who had wished to haul that man to the stocks, to be sent to the gallows as a Rapist.
You had heard the defense from the men who had stopped him, a recently promoted Corporal Alphonse and his comrade, Private Phillipe, and the overwhelming evidence that was brought before him damned him without a single witness needing to be brought to the stand, or the victim facing the man who had defiled her.
But you were taking the Pleasure to escort this man to hell, with words that must be heard.
"The French army promoted me for victory, and I have given you all victory. I am not blind to many of the great horrors that war can be brought before a population of noncombatants. They are victims of our conquest, and many in the prosecution have stated that we are due a semblance of gratification due to the horrors we suffer and that in battle, we are not in control of our inhibitions. We become something horrific. But that is precisely the point that we must punish these men who commit horrible crimes. Because we need to control the evil within our hearts, that is brought out when we have power over our fellow man. So we will prove to be better than the demons that wish to drive us to do evil. I charge Sargent Jean Phillipe with the crime of Rape, and to sentenced to death by Firing squad, with over 20 bullets, to ensure he dies, feeling the same pain that was inflicted by his victim."
Reward: Your actions to handle the rash of crimes that sprung up during your occupation have been dealt with, with many of the perpetrators being put to death.
-10 Men in the Second Corps were executed for crimes that warranted them. Many more were demoted for thievery or drunkenness. The Sicilian Republic gains a -5 to their backlash roll, due to the punishment that you have dished out.
Reports from France show that there is a law being drafted in your name, to put our more stringent punishments for men who commit Rape in the Army.

Excerpt from Colonel Martian Severin, Republican Guard, After Action Report on the Battle of Messina, on the Conduct of Colonel Antonie Chamans.
When Colonel Chamans gave the order to charge forward into the retreating enemy lines as they began to rout and throw down their weapons and attempt to surrender, I believed that he saw something in the enemy formations that I failed to recognize. That there was a potential counter-attack, that surrendering soldiers were faking surrender, attacking us as they were being detained.
Twenty minutes after, when a soldier in my sight was surrendering, he had waved a clear white banner, and a company of men had been evacuating civilians from the city but were caught by Chamans and his men. I saw Chamans scream at his cannons to fire, to prevent them from escaping, and to stop any sort of resistance.
Every single man, woman, and child that the company had protected, were killed, all three hundred of them. Scenes like that were common before General Davout restored order, and prevented Chamans from burning the city to the ground.
Colonel Chamans behavior goes beyond what was reasonably expected of his station, and well beyond the normal conflict between armies and nations.
Chamans stood at attention, as you glared at him. "I have every right to execute you, to appease the new Sicilian government that has been established. Do you know why I have not done so?" You asked, swirling a glass of wine.
"Non, General Auclair." He replied with a stern gaze.
You drank the entire glass in a gulp. "Because I believe that there is a logical statement for your butchery. Is there, or was some devil possessing you, robbing you of all your senses and forcing you to kill."
Chamans remained quiet for one moment before he spoke. "I chose the only option that was available to me."
"And that option was?" You asked.
"Complete annihilation of the enemy's will to fight. I targeted their officers to leave them disorganized. I allowed them to retreat into killing fields already pre-sighted by my cannons. I attacked their homes and that of their families to get them to surrender." He stated, unwavering.
"Yet it only led to slaughter, Colonel. Even Colonel Murat had stopped the killing and tried to take prisoners. Prisoners that did not survive thanks to you and your men." You stated firmly. "Were the civilians fleeing for their lives necessary for our victory after that point?"
"No." He replied with cold logic. "But it would send a message to the rest of Europe."
"And what message would you send, on my behalf?" You asked.
"That peace is preferable to the war they could possibly wage against us. Any war they would wage against us." He stated.
"That is not for you to decide." you stated.
Chamans nodded. "Perhaps, but I made the choice for you anyway, and that choice has been made, and I accept any punishment that may come for my actions."
"There will be punishment." You replied.
Reward: Chamans has been properly debriefed for the Clusterfuck of his actions that has potentially caused.

Your occupation of Palermo and the reorganization of Sicily into a Republic was nothing short of a spectacular feat of control.
The new Republican government made of several prominent citizens, and a few French government officials who were not on the island yet, were quietly celebrating the new liberty that they had now been given by your hands.
It seems that, once the initial fear and distrust were over, civilian locals were placed in charge of running the government and day-to-day affairs of the new Republic… things got better.
There was less hostility in the city, less violent energy.
It was as if the people had awoken from a bad dream, a spell that had captivated them all their lives.
And now they were awake, to the possibility of the future.
And they believed it with open eyes, and open hearts.
Reward: -20 to the Sicilian Backlash Roll. Any Attempt by Ferdinand to reclaim his lost throne by any means will have… trouble.

You did not take part in the ball, for something far more pressing had taken your attention.
Louis was standing in uniform, musket in hand, with his eyes staring out into the sea. He was going to kill himself, you could see it in his face, as you walked into the room. "Louis." You said his name, as Charlotte stayed close behind. "Put the gun down."
"They hate me… all I did for them, and THEY STILL WANT ME DEAD!" He screamed, a letter appearing from his pocket. A stolen letter from Paris, one you had never seen before.
One that bore the seal of the Consular government. "Louis." you tried to say something.
"To the Magnanimous and Victorious, General Auclair!" Louis sobbed the words out as he stepped back, the gun still pointing at his chin, towards his head. "Troubling reports from home and the nation's spies. We have received word of a Royalist Coup in the works, with agents of subterfuge and despair infiltrating the army of your command to abscond with the Traitor King and fight another rebellion to place his body onto his tyrannical throne."
You felt the pain that he was feeling in his mind. Brian would never do something like this… nor would Napoleon… you think.
Then you remembered the third man who was in the Consulate of France. Maximiliumn Robespierre. You wanted to say something, but the words were caught in your throat, leaving you voiceless and afraid.
But Charlotte stepped in front of you… speaking words that failed you. "Louis, go on."
"To secure the nation's interests, and to prevent the enemy from destroying the Republic… the Consular government revokes the protections of Louis Capet and his sister Charlotte that were granted to you when they became your wards. They are to be handed over to Commissioners of the Republic when they arrive to investigate the events at Messina and be sent back to France."
Unwritten, but you felt a chill in your bones as you thought of one word.
For Execution to deprive the enemy of Claimants they can rally behind. To demoralize the surviving Royalist Elements in France Proper, and scatter them to the wind.
"With good wishes and fortune,
Maximiliumn Robespierre. First Consul of France."
"I'm not going to allow them to parade me around like a slave to be slaughtered," Louis stated. "I am going to die on my terms, Loyal to France, and nothing else!"
"Louis… please… your soul should not be damned to hell for this choice, for loyalty to our home," Charlotte stated. "Don't let them think you are a coward. Do not let them kill you for their politics. Do not die when you still have everything to give!"
For a moment, you thought the rifle fired, a crack of flint and steel and gunpowder. But instead of gunfire, it was a rifle clumsily falling to the ground.
And in Charlotte's arms, Louis fell, weeping. Every emotion was there, as he wept. "I don't want to die." Were the only words you could understand from the uncontrollable cries.
Failure: Louis and Charlotte have been asked to return to France, though you fear they will be executed once they arrive back in Paris.
But you have no information to confirm that.

Lusta de causa
Through the Power of the Lord and the power bestowed upon His Church, through His Representative on the Earth, we are reminded of the great duty us, and the grave punishments of failing to protect the spirits and holy flock of His Church. Moreover, it is quite clear to all that We have no hope whatsoever of touching by our admonitions and counsels the authors of so much evil, or of inspiring them with more favorable sentiments towards the Church, by our prayers or by our demands. In other times, many Sovereign Pontiffs, whose holiness and learning rendered illustriously, were obliged, because the cause of the Church required it, to resort to similar extreme measures against Princes and Their Sovereign Lord's.
Yet we must, to preserve Chrisidom and the Church of Holy God. For these reasons, by the authority of Almighty God, and that of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, and our own, We declare that all those, who, after the invasion of Sicilia and the ecclesiastical territory that lies within it, We declare that all such have incurred the canonical excommunication, censure, and punishment, as decreed by the holy canons and by the Apostolical constitutions, by the decrees of General Councils, and nominally, by the Holy Council of Trent, and if need be, We excommunicate and anathematize them again, declaring them by the very fact, deprived of any privileges or insults which may have been granted either by ourself or by our predecessors"
Pope Pius VI.
Critical Failure: The Army of the Orient, and all members within, are Excommunicated from the Catholic Church.
All Members gain Trait: Excommunicated: The Holy Father has stripped you of the Temporal Protections of the Catholic Church, damming your souls to eternal Damnation. (Unknown Effect. -20 to all rolls when interacting with Catholic Rulers or members of the Catholic Church that are not French or members of the French Army. There will be a roll every turn to discover who might desert the army. The lower the better.)
All members who are not Catholic are unaffected and gain a +20 when fighting Catholics for 1 battle, as rage grows

Ivan Matveyevich Simolin was very… well entrenched in the old French style. He was portly, and his hair, greying, more white than his natural blond would have allowed. But he smiled anyway as you sat across from him, and your officers joined you. "I must say Generale, I am impressed with the great change that you seem to bring wherever you go! The stories about you, Thérèse Auclair, are nothing compared to the real thing, to the real legend!"
You coughed. "Your praise is most welcome Ambassador, but I must say I am rather surprised that you are here. I was informed by my government that the Tsardom of Russia broke all diplomatic ties to my nation, seeing as the previous regime had its head removed."
Simolin smirked. "Yes… but my Tsar wishes to reform diplomatic ties… and request for help."
"Who is your Tsar?" Dumas asked. "Last I heard there was a civil war contesting such a thing."
"My Tsar is Alexander." Simolin stated. "And right now, he is desperate for foreign support to claim his throne."
"And why should France care about the Rus?" You asked. "What does he offer that we cannot gain ourselves?"
Simolin smiled. "Besides the usual diplomatic concessions… He is willing to enter a strategic military alliance with the French State, to protect the French Republic against the inevitable war with Britain that is to come."
That made you raise an eyebrow. "And why have you come to me with this information, instead of going to Paris?"
"My Tsar is a fan of the stories written about you and believes that you are the General who can help lead his men to victory. With the help of Frenchmen." He replied.
"I cannot begin to think of an answer." You replied.
"The offer is open for only a short time. But I assure you, that Tsar Alexander is prepared to supply the army that you bring. Even in the Winter." He stated.
He sounded… desperate to protect his Tsar, but did not know how to do so, and was going off the gut feeling of his Lord and Master. It was strange.
But now you need to make a choice… a choice to do the impossible again.
Reward: You have received an offer to be good to be true. Tsar Alexander wishes for your help, in exchange for military and economic alliance against Britain and potentially, another European coalition.

Louis was not very interested in helping you learn how to speak well, but he did do one thing that made you very grateful.
"Do I really have to wear a dress?" You asked, feeling very… uncomfortable with it.
"The Russian Ambassador requested when you meet the Tsar, if we go to Russia, that you look less like a general and more like a lady," Charlotte stated as Louis shook his head. "And odd request, but Tsars and King's are odder than the usual person. I think we're the most normal."
"This corset really hurts." you complained.
"It does at first, but you get used to it," Charlotte stated. "Though thankfully, your figure is busty enough to not need to tighten it so much."
"Are you trying to get me to kick you?" You demanded. "They aren't that big."
"In this corset, they do," Charlotte stated. "Now, I hope you can still move, because we need to start working on that Waltz. And then the makeup, and working on your movement in heels. And then there is what we need to do to allow you to speak properly."

August 12th, 1795
"The Republic is one of the greatest goods that have ever graced mankind. That is a certainty, not an opinion. Never before has a nation that had once been so held back by the systems that had pressed them, be replaced by one that has shown time and time again to allow the brilliant minds of our age to stand up for what they believe is right, even when the world stands against them. We should be proud. And we will be victorious."
There are so many things you need to worry about now, it is almost unbearable. But you have done better with so much more on your plate.
What do about Chamans:
[]Chamans will be Reassigned under your Direct command, and the Reserves with them: You will take direct command of his forces.
[]Chamans will become your Aide De Camp, and the Reserves will be under the Command of Murat: You will place the Reserves under Murat, and hope the Dandy Man can command men as good as he commands horses.
[]You will Send Chamans back to Paris: He will not do this Campaign, not anymore. (Write in a General or Officer that you wish to replace him)
[]Write in
What do you do About Louis and Charlotte?:
[]Send them Home: Louis is suicidal, he needs to go home before he hurts himself, and Charlotte will not leave her brother unattended. Hopefully, Brian will be able to care for him while you are away.
[]Keep them Here: As much as you hate to say it, Louis is safest here, in the Army.
[]Discharge Louis: Louis will remain with you, but he will be a civilian with no ability to command or to fight.
[]Write in
What do you Do:
[]Go Home: You are going to need to spend a nice long day chatting with The new First Consul. Something feels… wrong. Very Wrong.
[]When in Rome: You are excommunicated by the Catholic Church… you have an army of men who are also excommunicated by the Church. What else can they do? Damn your soul twice. You are no sinner… but what the Pope has done, is inexcusable to your heart… and to your men.
[]Continue the course: Egypt is your true Target. You have everything you need to fight the enemy and win.
[]From Russia with Love: The Offer to go to Russia is almost too good to be true… but Alexander must be in a desperate situation if he is willing to offer it to you, a General that he seems to have only heard about in stories. Either he thinks you are even better than you know you are... or he's got something else up his sleeve that you do not know about.

We will not send Louis home. We keep him on and promote him for his bravery. Make him an officer within our general staff or give him command of a military unit and etc. As a subtle message to those in power in France. "Louis and his sister aren't going anywhere and that he has been so loyal to France and brave in battle, that he has been promoted.
Well, we should encourage those who want to leave after being excommunicated to come to speak to administrative staff. Grab their stuff and their pay for their service thus far, and that'll probably be enough to buy a ticket home.
That said, I want to keep Louis. He's a damn good sniper, a damn good soldier, and he's done nothing wrong. Robspierre must be absolutely fucking delusional if he thinks we're going to be complicit in his extrajudicial murder. If there's a royalist coup, then raise the army and crush it. It's literally in Napoleon's fucking job description.
I'm, quite literally, on my last drops of patience with Robesphiere right now, not my best moment I tell you, he can go f himself for all I care right now. I want to take the Russian offer, but I don't know how much time we get to accept, are we able to go to Russia through Italy?
Right now I feel like, honestly, we do not have anything to lose apart from the kids, who we are keeping with us, and maybe Brian, but he has protection in the form of Napoleon, and that if we lose him we really don't have things to lose. I'm on a warpath.
