For some reason I keep expecting something to go wrong with the Crusade; you know that saying about how if the attack is going well, you've walked into an ambush? Doesn't help that we've been hearing all this information about how the crusade's going through secondhand rumors. It feels like this is just my paranoia talking, but I can't shake it.

Personally, I suspect that the only thing likely to go wrong is that the other countries are letting Oskaria do all the work so that the Oskarian army is weakened and deep in Transulinia when the crusade ends. That leaves the invaders closer to Oskaria and with most of their military power, letting them invade without having to worry about the Oskarian army.

It's possible that the lich also has a trap planned that will harm our army even more than expected, but actually beating Oskaria back should actually be a good thing, since it means that we have more time to find the traitors, Oskaria has more time to rebuild the military, and the other countries actually have to do some work and take some casualties.

I guess the king is trying to end the crusade early to preserve Oskaria's army and catch the invaders off guard, but it really feels like a better idea would have been to make some excuse to keep the army in Oskaria ("alas, we took heavier casualties than was first reported, we must take more time to rebuild our strength"), and just let the other countries exhaust themselves fighting the crusade. Even better, this would imply that Oskaria is even weaker than it seems, potentially making the invaders want to finish the crusade so they can attack us before we rebuild.

Bear in mind that this is not the christian crusades where, so long as you kept the pope on-side, god was unlikely to intervene. The spirits tend to get personally involved in matters. Oskaria pulling off the crusade almost single-handedly then being carved apart by the failed crusaders would set a very unfortunate precedent should the spirits want anyone to crusade for them in the future. Politics does have a tendency to carry along on momentum, and plans have already been made, and the spirits don't seem to be entirely opposed to operation backstab, so success in the crusade is unlikely to prevent the attack, but it might force the spirits to make a concerted effort to at least appear to be opposing it.

Absolutely nothing, because even literally blind, deaf, and hungover with a headache so bad you'll feel it for years you had so much firepower you weren't going to fail that roll :V

So what you're saying is that the 95 ended up as a party meeting of intellectuals with some libations rather than just a bribe and it's the reason for the epic hangover the 1 caused.
