And like- ok, all that, sounds like it would be a fucking hoot to watch, but the fucking kicker, the bit that's sent my sides into orbit no less than three times today, is that in the back seat was, hand to God, an open multipack of Kitkats. So, either this attempted thief found a multipack of Kitkats that must have fallen out of a shopping bag some time ago and said 'Ooh, go on then, I'm breaking into a car, might as well cheat on my diet a bit,' or he brought a mid-grand theft auto snack.
While that is funny as hell, I hope you didn't touch the wrapper and the police collected it as evidence.

Out of curiosity, what's the rationality behind buying steel torso armor and nothing else? Jaune already has composite torso armor, so if you're going to buy something made of steel doesn't it make sense to buy a different piece so you can get the +25 torso bonus as well as the bonus for something else? And of course buy at least composite armor for the bonus from every piece without any hindrance; also if you're buying steel why not get the ceramic inserts for the additional protection since you're already getting a heavy piece anyway? I just don't understand the thought process that comes up with steel torso armor and nothing else as the best solution, Jaune does have the money for any arrangement.
Forgot to answer this before, but I was thinking of familiarity. Jaune is used to wearing a breastplate, so him sticking to what he knows made sense to me. We could've gotten more for him, but for now I didn't want to overencumber him or spend too much money when we haven't done computer shopping yet. Maybe we'll get more armour once he's gotten used to wearing it.
Nobody has time to skim Grimm Wikipedia while their teammate's being used as an Alpha Beowolf's chew toy, looking for the bit that says 'AIM AT JOINT IN PLATING BETWEEN SHOULDER AND NECK' between notes on pack habits and weird authorial tangents into this one time he blew three Grimm heads apart with a single blunderbuss shot.
I look forward to hearing what Port makes of the Library(). Will the Process accompany the good Professor to hunting trips to learn Grimm-killing directly from a master? Because I'd love to read that.
To be perfectly honest, I'm kind of on the fence about giving this a write-in option. At first, I was all for it, because less work for me, but then I started coming up with my own Grimm, and I realised that I really... really enjoy making Grimm. And that I am very good at it. Still, if your heart's set on it, go ahead, write it if you want, just don't give me something the size of an actual thesis. The Beowolf entry is 173 words long, and it's already starting to approach wall of text.
I got the impression that @Blonddude42 was asking about writing omakes to improve the Library, but maybe I misinterpreted him. Is that going to be a thing we can do?
Storied Grimm are Grimm that, as you would expect, have been around long enough to shape the world in a manner that could be compared to...

Well, start with Typhon and Echidna, and go from there.

But yes, most of their information will come from their myths, and the Process observing them from very, very, very far away. Personal experience is not recommended, unless you want to end the quest early.
Just how many have there been? When was the last time one was killed and what did it cost?
They are some of the first to come into being.

I guarantee you that they're going to be the last to die.
To put their power level in context to the crossover, how many Spines would we have to send at one of these things to bring it down? 1? 3? A dozen? A hundred?

Or would Spines not be enough and we should start dreaming a little bigger?
I'm still curious, but I suppose we'll investigate those things sooner or later.
I figured that Transistor upgrades were important enough to deserve their own shop scene, as well as being the only shop that's slated to have any kind of fleshing out, so I just separated it out.
Which of our sisters are we visiting it with?
Bookshop, I genuinely forgot about then realised that it would be pretty much useless to Jaune anyway
But how will we help Creme's brother without first having read "Buck out of Luck - An idiot's guide to keeping Faunus out of the White Fang"?
weapons store, I started to cobble together a whole system of base weapons and part modifiers, then asked myself, honestly, 'would anybody be interested in these compared to the giant blue future sword?'

The answer was no, add in the fact that it would have made the weapons shop five times the size of any other shop, and that system has now been shelved to be used elsewhere.
I think people will want to upgrade Crocea Mors at some point, but that would be quite different from a weapons shop and it would probably take a while before we get there.
In short, they're gone, but you're not losing out on much.
Except for Jaune dealing with the awkward flirting from the cute Weapon Shop's Assistant. Hopefully that poor girl will find the off-screen Huntsman romance she's always been searching for.
... Sentimentality?

...

Crippling social anxiety.
I see. Well, just ask a mod if you ever want to get rid of it or make place for a new poll.
Basically this entire, admittedly assumed chain of events, plays out in my head like a scene from a British sitcom from the 80s, and that fucking kills me.
Astonishing.

In exchange, though, the heavier the armour you wear, and the more of it that you do wear, the less mobile you are. This can be overcome with training, to a certain point, but after a while, you're going to take permanent penalties for your troubles.
[] Steel- Now we're getting into the real stuff. As you can imagine, a full set of steel armour weighs the same as a small child, but the protection is definitely worth it. Besides, who doesn't want to be a knight in shining armour? (+15/-3) (1000 Lien)
-[] Gravity- A dark purple powder that smells of... nothing you can put a name to. Used in cars and most heavy machinery. When used to dope metal, and infused with Aura, can lead to armour and weaponry becoming lighter by up to 75%.
Come to think of it, maybe we should've gotten a full set of steel armour and the Gravity Dust to upgrade it to not weigh so much. @Prok, do we know anyone who could help with such a thing? Like one of our sisters?

That sounds like the armor would have to be made with the dust already inside the metal. To put gravity dust in the armor, we'd have to melt it and then reforge it. It would probably cheaper to have a set custom made, or at the least just buy ingots of steel instead of a finished product.

Also, I want to point out that weight isn't the same thing as mass. Weight is the force of gravity on an object and doesn't affect inertia, which is the tendency of an object to maintain its current velocity. Something massive that's been lightened by gravity dust, while easier to lift, would resist acceleration and thus movement the same amount as an unlightened object. Maybe slightly more, considering dust itself has mass. Lightened armor might even make it harder to move in, since the reduced weight won't contribute to friction as much, reducing the traction your feet have while increasing the force required for a given amount of acceleration. The difference in traction probably isn't that noticeable, though, unless the armor would end up being as massive or more than the wearer.

As I said, I considered it, then I realised that treating it like the Fate Shop would just break the quest over your juicy collective thighs and that I enjoy writing up those entries far too much to think of sharing. In the end, I'm probably gonna do it the same way I'm doing Functions- write stuff up, get it approved, then when you have reports to spare, vote in the ones you like the best.

Just how many have there been? When was the last time one was killed and what did it cost?
Less than ten have ever existed. Eight of those are still alive. Seven of them are more than a thousand years old.

The last one killed was known as Typhon, and it died about 1200 years ago. That death left the sea between Vale and Vacuo a toxic, corrosive tempest that hasn't slowed down at all in the past millennium and change, leaving the entire sea something only captains with the most tenuous grip on their survival instincts will attempt, and the actual death was a large enough event that it's used as a calendar marker in much the same way as-

Library Entries Updated: Myrmekes, Vampyr

{Jaune. Jaune, wake up.}

Your eyes scrunch up, only making the pulsing sensation in your temples flare up.

"Whuh?"

{Yeah, I know, but it's been eight hours. C'mon, you gotta rejoin the land of the living sometime.}

Uuuuuugh.

Youdunwanna.

It'll only be worse if you put it off.

Uuuuuuuuugh.

Goddammit. You know they're right.

But you don't want them to be right.

{You're dehydrated, you haven't showered in three days, and it's a damn miracle you finished anywhere near the time you're supposed to be in bed. Now get out, or I'm flipping you out.}

And you know damn well he will, too.

You drag yourself to the edge of your bed, feeling every muscle forced into the motions protest at length.

Sitting there, in clothes you've been wearing for three days, your temples pulsing in time with your heartbeat, you can already tell this is going to be a rough day.

"… Morning routine." You mumble after a moment, pushing yourself onto your feet after a moment. As a silhouette mirroring you gets ready to guide you through a regimen of stretches and exercises flickers into existence, you get up, pull your shirt off, and prepare for hell.

|||

You don't remember the sun being this bright.

{Absence makes the eyes grow duller, apparently.}

Speaking of eyes, over the course of those three days, your right eye finally healed up well enough to see out of. It's a little blurry, and the sclera is still a bit red in patches, but it's good enough that you can do without the eyepatch, finally. Which is good, any longer and you would've been back to the hospital to get it checked out, or God forbid, tried to use Reboot() on your eyeball.

Once you made your way through your wake up regimen to work some life back into your body, and keep off the semi-atrophy of being basically a vegetable for three days straight, got cleaned up, and amazed your parents with the fact that, no, you weren't dead, you decided that the park was as good a place as any to get out of the house and acclimated to sunlight again.

The fact that you're working on writing up that spreadsheet training document rather than enjoying the day doesn't factor into your recovery, honest.

You definitely haven't been procrastinating, drawing up a quick mascot to add some colour and character to an otherwise, being polite, dry document. Said mascot is certainly not based on the Cell, which is quite happily posing for those drawings you're definitely not doing.

{... Er… Jaune? Turn around.}

You stop typing and do as your sword asks, curiosity getting the better of you, and when you see what caught its attention, your mind skips a beat.

It takes you a moment to comprehend what you're looking at, as you watch a tiny figure in a poncho, hood pulled up, walking through the park and avoiding people as best they can, almost as if they're trying her best not to be seen or noticed or actually take up any space at all.

… It can't be.

It can't be, you tell yourself, just as you watch her phase through a tree to avoid a group of picnickers, dragging several bags of groceries with her.

Fuck.

… Ok, look, hand to God, you meant to keep talking to her, over the week, but you've been kind of… well, preoccupied. With, the other girls in your life- ok, you can't make that sound good, you're just going to move on.

{Think we should check on her?}

… No time to pay for your sins like the present.

"Definitely."

You catch up to her fairly quickly, her apparent panic not enough to make up for short legs, and come within a few feet before something twinges at the back of your mind.

Before you say anything, you quietly bring your Aura up, leaving it colourless for the moment.

"Ada?"

She whirls to face you, her hand going to her side in a motion that would make you grateful for your Aura if there was actually anything there for her to grab. Now that she's actually facing you, you confirm that it is, in fact, Ada, and that, if anything, she's had a rougher week than you. There aren't words to describe the fear and paranoia plain on her face in the moments before she recognises you, and there certainly aren't words for how you feel seeing it directed at you.

A second or two passes, and she must realise who you are, because her face shifts, mindless fear giving way to realisation, paranoia giving way to shame.

"... Jaune? I, er, I didn't expect to see you here."

"I didn't really expect to see you either."

Conversation stalls for a moment.

You just kind of stare at each other, the entire situation growing more awkward by the second.

"... Could we talk about-""I have something to tell you-"

The two of you stop talking over each other as quickly as you started, and you realise this is going to be just as awkward as last time.

"... Do you mind if we sit down somewhere?"

Ada nods, and you quickly find a bench to sit on, the awkwardness not exactly abating, but, settling down a little.

"So, what did you want to talk about?" You ask her, trying to find the balance between being too rough and walking on eggshells.

You watch her take a deep breath and steel herself to talk about whatever she wants to say.

"... I've just... been thinking about something kinda big, is all." She reacts to the way she phrased that before you can. "I-I mean, moving! I've been thinking of, moving."

While not as bad as your gut reaction, talk of her moving when she's supposed to be going to Beacon isn't exactly an uplifting idea either.

"Really? Where to?"

"... Mistral, maybe. I, I think it's still not too late to ask for my transcripts to be sent to Haven instead. You know, it just, sounds nice, go somewhere new, meet new people, maybe pick up some Mistrali..."

It wouldn't take a genius to realise she gave up trying to convince either of you halfway through that sentence.

It would take a blind man to not notice the slight quiver in her hands as she talks, obviously thinking over the real reason she wants to go to Mistral.

Oh boy you're doing this again.

On one hand, update! Seeing Ada again! Cell being cute! All good things. On the other, we've got another social vote...

Anybody have any idea how to convince Ada that Beacon has enough badasses to keep her safe even from Mr.Fleshwarper?

I can think of two things right now: inviting her to stay with our family and taking her to go see Ozpin to see if he can do something for her, but I don't know if we have the in-character knowledge to justify the second one.

@Prok, what does Jaune know about Ozpin and Beacon's security measures?

Jesus Christ how horrifying.
Well, guess we're really going to need the Process by the end of this...

In other news... Ada is trying to bail out of Vale. Honestly can't blame her, Lee is fucking terrifying as a villain. Can normal kinetic force even kill him?
And here's the vote. Let's see what we go-
[] Same story as last time. Come up with your best write-in, and be judged accordingly.

...Shit. It's late and I got nothing.

inviting her to stay with our family
We'd need to be very careful with bringing that up. She'll be likely to go full I can't force my problems on you on us...

Fuckit, I'm going to bed. Best of luck to y'all. We'll need it I feel.

...I guess we should get Ada to consider the pros and cons of both decisions? Just take some time and think things through, I guess. And maybe point out a few things that she might have missed.

Beacon:
+Safety in numbers
+Friends
+People know Lee's coming and can prepare
+Knows some people Lee can't shapeshift into
-Possible victims
-Friends close to possible target of serial killer
-Lee might try to kill people and wear their skins as a suit regardless of disguise practicality

Beacon has enough hunters to deter Boriah Lee, so it's probably one of the better places to stay. Then again she might be worried about leading him to other people, and she literally saw him take on a team of hunters and take no permanent damage, including one that blocked him from using his semblance on the user. People in Vale already know that Lee's coming, though, and are probably preparing to stop him. I'm not sure how much good preparations will do, though; his semblance can let him hide very well.

Relocating:
+Avoids staying in the same city as a serial killer who previously murdered her parents, destroyed her hometown, and took her eye
+Gets friends out of line of fire
-Maybe not much reason to run (based off of in-character knowledge) besides avoiding being in the same city as a serial killer who murdered her parents, destroyed her hometown, and took her eye
-Where would she go that wouldn't have the same problems as Beacon?
-Possible victims
-Lee might try to kill people and wear their skins as a suit
-If Lee is tracking her, he'll probably follow her.

It's unlikely that Lee is tracking her specifically, and if he is, moving might only buy time. It would depend on the tracking method he's using, if any, and that's not considering the possibility that he's not going to Vale by coincidence. I mean, we know it's not one, but Jaune doesn't.

If Ada does decide to run, we should find some way to keep in contact. Maybe we could suggest that she could work with the police or something to keep her safe or help them catch him? Then again, as far as we know we're the only ones she's told about Lee in years; she might not want to talk to anyone else about her past.

I think the only real way of stopping Lee would be to draw him out; his semblance likely lets him shapeshift by moving around his own flesh, so he can avoid being recognized until he starts to act. Ada could act as bait, but I really don't think we should tell her to get the attention of a man who murdered her parents, destroyed her hometown, and took her eye.

Lee told Ada that he was curious about what the source of semblances was. How will he react if he learns that we cannot only scan and copy semblances, but also invented a language to describe souls, specifically the parts that have to do with semblances, so that we could describe specific parts of them? We could use that as bait for him, though I'm not sure how effective it'll be. The semblance curiosity was a long time ago.

I can't really think of a way to avoid putting others in danger, unless Ada wants to run off and live in the woods. The woods are filled with Grimm and don't have easily recognizable food. That would be a bad idea.

Forget Ozpin, what does Jaune know about Lee? I'm under the impression that Glynda Goodwitch, at least, is both famous and something of a known quantity. Unless RWBY has the Manton limit or something similar, telekinesis fine and strong enough to effect structural repairs is Lee's hard counter, which makes "anywhere near Glynda" the safest place on Remnant.

don't forget Penny and Ironwood. from the sound of it Lee is a biokinetic which means Penny is potentially immune to him while Ironwood as a robot army to swamp him with if he gets too close to vale to buy time for Us, Glynda and Penny to take him down. (penny boxes him in, Glynda restrains and we remote control the Transitor into soul tracing the monster before deleting his data)

Damn it, Ada! You were supposed to be a Maiden by now! How is our party supposed to conquer Remnant when our respective progress contrasts like this?!

O-kay, we can fix this. Our future-teammate and friend-that-is-a-girl is amazing and underestimates how wonderful she is. Her fears eclipse opportunities. The reality we need to suggest without further traumatizing her are twofold: 1. Destroying the minimal relationships she has developed around here (especially one where she has begun to unpack her traumas) by moving will hurt Ada and those she cares about.

2. Ada's life here has not been easy or relaxing, but it has been balanced and reasonable enough to foster growth. She is mature, no matter how out-of-sorts going to fancy restaurants on not-dates and preparing for serial killers makes her feel. Maturity means starting and ending every day with the determination to be a hero, no matter how silly or odd that behavior seems to bystanders. Ada is growing and that maniac has no hand in her future while she protects the world.

Not happy with how I ended that second point, but I think the emotions got through. I'm also not really enthused by the idea of making Ada into a follower of our Process-Future plans. I think we need to be there for her as a friend (here and in her future at Beacon) instead of being the solution to her serial killer problem.

I don't know how strong Ozpin is in this but assuming he has been buffed similarly to the rest of the Universe then he could probably fuckin murder this dude in no time flat.

Another plus for staying is the probably imminent secret takeover of the Vale cityscape by the Process. Once that's done, Ada will never be without backup; and once he's found any disguise he tries to take will be instantly discovered as long as he's in the Process's controlled area.

If I knew how to bake, I'd make a cake for you. But alas, have a Like instead.
... You know, I haven't made Sachertorte in a while...

@Prok, what does Jaune know about Ozpin and Beacon's security measures?
Beacon is a Huntsman Academy. Ozpin is the Headmaster of Beacon.

Logic dictates that one is well-defended, and the other is a goddamn badass for keeping it running.

... And that's about it. Ozpin's kind of, an unknown, honestly. People know that he's a bloody methuselah by Huntsman standards, that he helped build the academies, implemented the team system while he was at it, and that he's been running Beacon for going on 40 years now.

Glynda, now, Glynda's better, because she's still, you know, taking an active role in the protection of humanity, and also not a hermit. People know about her.

As for Boriah, you know... a little more than you did last week.

You have a visual description- male, blond hair to the waist, and beyond emaciated, if reports are to be believed.

Logically, going off the pictures you have, you'd put him at less than 100 pounds, easy. Logically, he shouldn't be able to stand up like a healthy biped, let alone do half of the stuff he's reportedly done. If he had enough flesh to actually shapeshift into another person, there's probably a, ah, donor, somewhere. Otherwise, he genuinely doesn't have the mass to try and shapeshift, as far as you know.

Six hours left on the moratorium, and I can't say that I disagree with the ideas being flung about, they just need some refinement.

Remember, though- you're seeing her in person now. You have more options than over the phone.

So, mental health standpoint, we're in a very sensitive place. Without suggesting a course of action because I can't discuss rapid-fire right now, I need to remind people of two things.

1) Physical contact is a powerful psychological tool. You can do a lot to reassure someone with it.

2) Ada's been physically abused and maimed. Touch her the wrong way and we can trigger flashbacks.

Make of that what you will, I'll be back on my next break.

Some more ideas, if slightly scattershot and probably out of order:
  1. Offering her our hand. A symbolic gesture of "I am here for you" (and pragmatically, she will hopefully hesitate before running away if she has to break free with force or Semblance use).
  2. Reminding her about the security measures Beacon has in place. Being surrounded by trained Huntsmen is the safest place she can find.
  3. Speaking of being surrounded by trained Huntsmen, guess who has a sister working for the DPD? If Lee really is after Ada, then Juniper Arc is exactly the right person to talk to.
  4. 3 could lead into an invitation for Ada to stay with the Arcs for a while, but I'm not sure we should bring that up now or wait until we can get her to meet the rest of them.
  5. Telling her about the Transistor and demonstrating what it's capable of, especially the surveillance that would keep Lee from closing in unnoticed.
  6. Telling her about our Dream and the Process. Not entirely sure how to break this to her, there are probably better ways than my initial idea of: "After our talk, I thought so hard about killing Boriah Lee that I broke my brain, but I did come up with a solution."
Anything I missed? Is there anyone who dares try to make something coherent out of this?

No plans yet. We must discuss all of our available information before committing to a plan.

I don't think asking her to stay at our house right away is a good plan. Save that for after we've gotten her sold on staying in Vale. Focus on how to pull that off.

If we do want to demonstrate the Transistor's abilities, how do we do that without freaking her out? If this were a harem anime we could just tell her what color panties she's got on and get slapped and immediately forgiven but this isn't a harem anime so something more tactful would be in order.
