List of the number of people in say 100 meters, how many are male vs female, human vs fanuas amd what types of fanuas.

Are you trying to say that our Transistor can keep Boriah from creeping up on us, and her by association? As logical as that would be, recent events leave me with heavy doubts about just how effective our sword is at detection.

Do recall how we could ping any member of our class in that maze within the same second as desiring to know where they'd gone. Including Salem. Who was underground.

And with the turning of the clock, the moratorium is over.

Voting will be open until Saturday at 8 pm GMT and will be counted under plan voting, and beyond that, I have one last caveat- I want you to explain, in 20 words or less, why you choose to vote the way you do.

This isn't really for anybody's benefit but your own, I want you to be able to justify why you're voting for what you are beyond just 'oh it's in the lead' or 'oh this guy came up with it and his plans are usually really good.' Try and think critically about why you're choosing to throw your weight behind that plan.

Well.

I guess I'm going to make a plan and start the conversation.

Edit: Also, voting for something because it's in the lead undermines the idea of voting and it's stupid and you should never do it </rant>

[X] Plan: Appeal to logic because we suck at emotions
- [x] Double check nonthreatening body language: be close without crowding her, be available for hand holding or hugs without looking like she has to do anything: arms near sides at slight angle, palms out, fingers loose but not splayed, right hand slightly ahead of left.
- [x] Remind Ada that Beacon has Glynda in it, Glynda is terrifying.
- [x] Show her the Process. If possible, offer her a companion Process regardless of where she goes. They're independent, right?
- [x] FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY DONT MAKE ANY GRANDOISE "I WILL PROTECT YOU" PROMISES THEY'LL FREAK HER OUT.
- [x] Remind her that she has friends heading to Beacon. Joke about Creme and Lumen going all axe murderer on people like they did in the maze: "These guys are so terrifying anyone would think twice about getting near them."

[X] Plan: Keep Calm and Carry on
-[X] Hold out your hand and offer it for her to take. Something as simple as reaching out to another person is a good start.
-[X] For now, play along by trying to 'convince' her to go to Beacon. Use the presence of veteran Huntsmen like Ozpin and Glynda as examples for why she should go to Beacon instead of Haven.
-[X] Introduce her to Blue, Bracket, and Cell. Tell her a little about the Process.
-[X] Ask if she'd like to meet your family. Tell her a little about what they do, such as Juniper working for the DPD.

I don't know if our Jaune can do subtle, but I think avoiding outright confronting her on the Boriah Lee issue is a good idea, however paper-thin.

I'm concerned that he'll just slap on a new face, which the process may or may not be able to detect, then we'll get a similar situation to when Weiss got the drop on us.

Regardless, I'm not sure offering her a Process is a great idea? It's distinctly unimpressive at the moment. From a physical combat standpoint at least.

When was the last time she ate, slept, cleaned? She looks really out of it and she may have forgotten one of those. Helping her take care of herself helps calm her down.

For one thing, they're adorable and can serve to help with Sivantic's point; like a little helper elf or something.

For another, instantaneous data transfer. That applies to communications, too. In other words, instantaneous SOS. That's why I'm saying offer her one no matter where she decides to go. That 0 delay call for help from anyone with a scroll who can help could save her life.

Consider me convinced.

I am pretty sure the process cannot communicate with normal people yet. Prioritizing Communication would have gotten us that, but we did not take it. I have not seen anything that shows she is particularly tech-savvy

I went to go find it.
Left alone, development will land around Bracket's level.
Bracket speaks conversational, if not necessarily fluent, Valish. Plenty sufficient for serving as a little helper elf and emergency aid beacon.

@Prok, you might want to make a bigger post so that it actually triggers the Alert, since we only have three voters so far.
[X] Plan: Appeal to logic because we suck at emotions
I can appreciate the spirit behind this, but I feel that parts of it are either misguided, too finicky for our socially maladjusted Jaune, or premature.
- [x] Double check nonthreatening body language: be close without crowding her, be available for hand holding or hugs without looking like she has to do anything: arms near sides at slight angle, palms out, fingers loose but not splayed, right hand slightly ahead of left.
- [x] FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY DONT MAKE ANY GRANDOISE "I WILL PROTECT YOU" PROMISES THEY'LL FREAK HER OUT.
Do we really need to micromanage Jaune to this extent?
- [x] Show her the Process. If possible, offer her a companion Process regardless of where she goes. They're independent, right?
Can we even do this yet? I'm all in favour of handing out Cells to our friends and allies, as soon as it's ready for it.
- [x] Remind her that she has friends heading to Beacon. Joke about Creme and Lumen going all axe murderer on people like they did in the maze: "These guys are so terrifying anyone would think twice about getting near them."
Joking about murdering feels tone-deaf considering the situation and telling her that "Don't worry about a thing, your friends will totally fight Boriah Lee to the death for your sake." might only make her worry that Boriah Lee will, in fact, kill all of her newfound friends.

[X] Plan: Keep Calm and Carry on

This has my vote. Mistral is nice and spacious, with wonderfully vibrant culture, but it's more decentralized and Grimm are much more prevalent. Not to mention that if they're anything like our Asia, getting accustomed there will take a lot of effort, even if it's just to get the people warmed up to her a bit.

She'll be much safer in Vale and she'll be among friends, though that might be seen as a counterpoint, ala 'I don't want my friends to die because of me'. She certainly doesn't need any more survivor's guilt.

Also, and I don't know if Jaune knows it, but I think he'd at least have an inkling that Mr. BodyHorror might be on Bud- *ahem* Ada's (though actually her dad's) trail.

Also also, maybe introducing her to our AI buddies will give the companionship and advice she needs. Talking to our social diagnostics AI can only yield results and any progress is good progress, since stagnation prevents true recovery.

Edit: Bonus! Cop sister can keep us posted on the case since Ada would be a subject of interest and hopefully have at least some chance of forewarning when he gets to town. Seriously, hearing about a grisly mass murder on the radio hours or days after the fact is not going to give us sufficient time to prepare for his inevitable arrival.

As for my twenty words:

She needs security and Vale is best for that. And we can't kill the asshole if his target keeps moving.

All very good points, welcome to the thread, and by the looks of it, the forum, but...

You managed to support all of this, without actually voting for it. See, the vote tally program SV uses, and most others as well, use a specific layout to count votes with, so if you actually want to throw your name behind a plan, you'd have to set it out like-

[Q(actually an X but I don't want it to take mine into account)] Plan: Keep Calm And Carry On

The tally program detects the [X] and all sub-[X]'s and tallies them up that way. The best way to think of it is as if you're actually voting- one large cross in a box, anything else doesn't count. It's not a huge problem, but if you don't, there's a chance your vote might be missed by accident.

And that would be terrible.

@Prok, you might want to make a bigger post so that it actually triggers the Alert, since we only have three voters so far.
True, but I don't, really have anything to post that would be large enough to trigger the alert offhand.

... Fuck it, guess I'm crucifying somebody tonight.

Eenie, meenie, miney, coinflip, tails, Zero it is.

I'm so sorry little one

I...

This plan has some good points, but overall, I can't say... it would be a smooth success. Or, a success at all. You have two saving graces, which are basically your only hope for getting through this conversation unscathed. You know what, let's just go through it together-

- [x] Double check non-threatening body language: be close without crowding her, be available for hand holding or hugs without looking like she has to do anything: arms near sides at slight angle, palms out, fingers loose but not splayed, right hand slightly ahead of left.
This is ridiculous. Even if Jaune had the ability to convincingly shift his body language consciously without making it look weird, and the wrong starter option won for that to happen, Ada's too stuck in her own head right now to notice any of that. This just feels like something of a non-starter, it's really not... doing anything. The only part that really does anything for you, and this is if I was feeling very generous, is the part about being available for physical contact.

Physical contact is good- it's one of the most grounding sensations you can give people. Granted, it's something that does require you to have a good eye on their mental state, but generally, if they've gotten to the point of telling you the kind of stuff Ada's told you, a hug isn't going to be unwelcome, so long as you don't make it awkward.

- [x] Remind Ada that Beacon has Glynda in it, Glynda is terrifying.
- [x] Show her the Process. If possible, offer her a companion Process regardless of where she goes. They're independent, right?
These are those saving graces I mentioned earlier. Remind her that there are people at least as terrifying as Lee on her side, and oh fuck me I didn't talk about the Process progress-

Ok long story short, the Cell's core programming is stable enough that it can definitely shift into a Badcell with no drawbacks, and if you show her the Process, it will happily show off what that does, MOVING ON-

Anyway, yes, remind her that her friends are scarier than Lee. This? This is great. Even ignoring the end goals, a Cell is basically the equivalent of a puppy that'll grow up to become a floating plasma cannon platform.

- [x] FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY DONT MAKE ANY GRANDOISE "I WILL PROTECT YOU" PROMISES THEY'LL FREAK HER OUT.
Grandiose statements of protection aren't Jaune's thing in the first place. At best, a calm, logical explanation of exactly how he's going to let the Process murder Lee cell by cell, and at worst, a shockingly blunt admission of the pure unfiltered rage that's been running through his mind for the past week.

That's not to say it's a terrible thing, mind- being saved is all well and good, but most people don't really want to be saved- they want to regain control. They want to control the aspect of their life that they've lost control of, be it finances, their mental health, or their personal safety. That's not to say they can't be helped along by an outside force, e.g, other people, indeed, other people are usually a necessity in the endeavour, but in the end, the only person who can truly sort their life out for them is themselves.

Nobody controls your life but you. Nobody controls your happiness with your life but you. Everything else is just convincing a bull it can't break a rope.

- [x] Remind her that she has friends heading to Beacon. Joke about Creme and Lumen going all axe murderer on people like they did in the maze: "These guys are so terrifying anyone would think twice about getting near them."
This is so completely tone-deaf and such a terrible idea that I'm honestly confused as to why you added it. At all. Whatever goodwill the rest of your vote would have gotten you with Ada, this one thing would have atomised it.

You do not joke about somebody's hangups like that unless you know them a lot better than you know Ada. You don't just cannonball in with a joke and expect things to go great. If you knew her a lot better... well frankly you wouldn't need this vote, but besides, you might be able to get away with a joke or two. Some people can take it, some can't, some are happy to use humour as a coping mechanism, the point is that you don't know her well enough to take that gamble.

In the end, your vote is... well-intentioned, but misguided, and wholly concerned with the wrong things.

... It's not the best plan, but it's definitely the more realistic plan.

Anyway. With that out of the way, I hope 1200 words is enough to trigger the author alert, and I am extending the vote to Monday at 6 PM GMT. If nobody else votes one way or the other, I'll just pull from the moratorium chat for stuff.

I live! And sorry for not voting, my lurk instincts are terribly strong. Will reread what I've missed and vote soon!

I hope 1200 words is enough to trigger the author alert
*Gives a thumbs up*

... Also, it was only 890. Not sure if you were counting the words in the quotes, but those and spoilers don't count for alert word count.

Also, I think if you post it with a threadmark it automatically triggers an alert? Not sure how that works exactly, but I know some QMs do it on purpose with like 13 word updates.

Poptart does it.

I have seen alerts for 43 word stuff, so I have no idea how it works :V

I saw the alert for this, so it all works out.

Having said that, and still kinda meh on motivation, my interpretation is that yeah, Ada does not want to be saved. Katawa Shoujo gives me a great scene where the two talk about just that
Hisao: I just want you to be happy, you know?
I get the feeling that came out wrong, because Emi fixes me with an icy stare.
Emi: So you want to fix me, Hisao?
She's definitely getting angry now.
Emi: Wanna swoop in your white charger and save the day? Stop the nightmares, the phantom limb pains? Restore what's lost?
Her voice catches in her throat, and the tears start to flow.
Emi: Well, you can't. Nobody can. No body will.
It seems rather eerily relevant.

She is in a bad place, yes, she has been there for years. But why does she want to leave? Because her personal nightmare is coming, threatening herself physically, the shreds of peace she has managed to create, and now the new friends she has just made.

[X] Plan Sivantic
-[X] Put forth what Jaune thinks she is doing in the air, no hiding: She wants to leave because of Boriah Lee, right?
-[X] Remind Ada that Beacon has Glynda in it, Glynda is terrifying.
-[X] Show her the Process. If possible, offer her a companion Process regardless of where she goes. Tell her about Cell, and his plans for it.
-[X] Tell her we want to stay a team, because we are friends, and we like being friends. And that means watching out for each other.

First, stop hiding the issue. I rather avoid misunderstandings. Second, start addressing what I believe are her concerns. First that Boriah is just going maul Beacon searching for her. Well, Beacon has its own demons in human form watching over it. Then there is also the threat to people she knows. Show her that we are hardly sitting on our butts doing nothing. Then combine that with just plain showing that we care about her. We are not some random chump she met at the Academy but her friend. Which means we are not her protector, but someone on equal standing.

After that, well, things can go a number of ways. Too many to really plan for. I hope this leads to team training so that we can give her something she can do and see that is effort in keeping her and everyone safe.

Ah, damn, forgot to vote. Is it too late to have Blue do the talking?

EDIT:
if votes are still going to be taken

[X] Plan: Keep Calm and Carry on

Behold I come to answer your prayers. The (tie) cycle is now broken! (I hope)

[X] Plan Sivantic

Honestly, we should just make Blue do all the talking all the time. He's better than us at this social stuff.

[X] Plan Sivantic

I think hammering on the necessity of confronting Lee eventually is important considering this is fundamentally a choice between confronting her baggage and running from it. Even if she's not fully cognizant of that right now.
