-[X] Healing Supplies- All Hunters are trained in basic first-aid, but supplies are essential if you want that first aid to actually be effective.
--[X] Medicine Bag- A fairly comprehensive doctor's kit in a roll-up case, containing bandages, slings, antiseptic in the form of a small bottle of iodine, surgical suture and needles, and two syringes of epinephrine. (500 Lien)
--[X] Bleedstop- An admittedly unimaginative name for a very useful product- a thick paste that, when applied to any kind of bleeding wound, will form a thin, gummy barrier, sealing it shut and keeping it safe from infection. (250 Lien)
--[X] Antitoxin Kit- A small plastic box of vials and syringes, containing antivenoms for various forms of Grimm. (750 Lien)
-[X] Camp Supplies- Hunters can be out in the field for weeks at a time. Might as well try and make it comfy.
--[X] Hammock- Bedrolls are alright, but they have their problems- getting damp, laying on rocks, the odd Aranae deciding to crawl in with you for the night- nope, hammocks is where it's at! (200 Lien)

Out of curiosity, what's the rationality behind buying steel torso armor and nothing else? Jaune already has composite torso armor, so if you're going to buy something made of steel doesn't it make sense to buy a different piece so you can get the +25 torso bonus as well as the bonus for something else? And of course buy at least composite armor for the bonus from every piece without any hindrance; also if you're buying steel why not get the ceramic inserts for the additional protection since you're already getting a heavy piece anyway? I just don't understand the thought process that comes up with steel torso armor and nothing else as the best solution, Jaune does have the money for any arrangement.
This leaves me wondering if anyone up in Atlas has the means to produce something along the lines of modern composite vehicle armor (which craps all over steel in terms of protection and durability), and if getting on Ironwood's good side could lead to us... acquiring... a set.

Boom! J-crew gets a decent boost to defense while leaving his ability to dodge untouched all for the low, low price of 1500 lien. Also included the 1500 lien of medical equipment to soothe that salty voice in the back of our head just a smidge.
Hey, long time reader, forst time poster (like, ever. On this site.)
Weird question, but...
You said we couldnt do the whole murder a dude/copy his soul thing because we dont have a massive database like cloudbank.
Well, what if jaune traced himself?
Like, okay, big boss fight, we get mortally wounded, and BBG stabs us with our own weapon ( because fuck you ), or we're dying so we try a gambit to see how it works.
What the hell would happen?
Would we be traced? Would we become a Function? What if someone, say, Pyrrha, picks us up? Would our function just be a permanent passive, something that allowed people to use the transistor, just not program it? Would that kill them if they tried?
Or would nothing happen and we just die on our own swordputer?
I ask because I recently got to thinking about this quest (also a first for me) and I just had an idea about the first scene of transistor, but Ruby replaces Red, Jaune replaces Blue/Breach(), and instead of cloudbank, its at the top of ozpins tower shortly after Cinder runs like a little bitch because FUNCTIONMANCY, and it just got me thinking more?
Until I Cracked and made an account for the sole purpose of this question.
Sooooooo...
Tl:dr
Can we Trace ourself, and would that let somebody else become the owner of the transistor?
Also, does this count as thread necromancy, please dont yell at me, this is my first time posting on a forum ever and it took me 2 days to write this post so i already feel stupid asking >_<
@ArcanePariah Don't sweat about necromancy, that's not actually a thing on SV. Restarting an ancient thread can get it locked and annoy some people, but you won't actually get infracted for doing so.
On the question, it's a pretty good one. I'm not sure whether or not Prok'll actually answer it, but I don't think he'd allow it simply to avoid the inevitable situation where stabbing ourselves in the heart seems like a great way to solve a problem.

I regularly drag this thread kicking and screaming from its grave, trust me, it's more than used to it. Anyway, welcome to the party, have your complimentary update.

Anyway, to actually answer the damn question: you will never find yourself on the wrong end of your own blade unless things go so horribly, horribly wrong, that they start to get out of my control.
Also I'm splitting the update in two because I'm realising more and more that the bit you're all interested in doesn't gel with, well, Penny in an arcade, and it really belongs in the Informational section more than anything else.

After some inner conflict on the subject, you tell her that, if she's really sure she's ok with spending money on you, you're not going to refuse a gift outright.
The little smile she gives you as she all but skips off to get you a gift is enough of one in itself, you feel, but you've made your choice.
While you wait, you look about the array of shops, and find yourself mildly shocked by the sudden realisation that you have less than two weeks before you go to Beacon.
Somehow, somehow, the idea of visiting a Huntsman supply shop for necessities just... completely slipped your mind until you took somebody else shopping. Even with the implicit intent of taking Penny to these stores so she could learn more about Huntsmen and Huntresses, it genuinely didn't occur to you that you had stuff to buy before you got shipped off.
{Well, you have 25 grand burning a hole in your pocket. No time like the present.}
You know he's right.
It only takes you about half an hour to gather everything you think you'll need- medical supplies, Bleedstop, an antitoxin kit, maybe slight overkill, sure, but better safe than sorry, right?
1500 Lien on stuff you'll hopefully never have to use.
20% of Huntsmen and Huntresses are crippled or die in the first year.
You don't intend for yourself, or anybody else you know, to become one of them.
Speaking of...
You stop to think about your armour. Like, seriously stop and think about it. Composite armour is a mixture of hardened plastics, 3D printed onto a metal frame then riveted into place. It's cheap, it weighs virtually nothing, and it's kept you safe in your few skirmishes against the odd Loxy, but...
It's getting tight. It's been Reboot()ed more times than you can count. You're pretty sure, on an atomic level, it has none of its original particles at this point.
It does not.
Oh gods you've created a real-life philosophical thought experiment.
Nope! That will not do! You don't even want to think about the implications of that!
{Time for an upgrade?}
Time for an upgrade!
You walk into Titan's Armour, and for the second time in half an hour stop yourself from opening your medical files on reflex to a panicking shopkeeper, because a Huntsman supply shop that doesn't let them openly carry their weapon is one that's going to go bust very quickly.
"Good afternoon! How may I help you?" The altogether too peppy woman behind the counter chirps at you.
"Uh, do you have any steel chest armour in a..."
You haven't been measured for armour since you were 14, shit-
You're a 45/48 long now.
You relay your measurements to her.
"Of course, sir, if you come this way, I'll see what I can find for you."
It does take her a while, naturally- by this shop's standards, you're positively tiny. Eventually, though, you walk out one cuirass and plackart heavier, boxed and held in your arms, to be bolted together later, and 2000 Lien lighter. As you walk out of the armourer's, you notice Penny walking out of the Dust store, a bag in each hand.
"Hey," you call out to her after a moment. "what'd you get?"
"Ah! I analysed my weaponry and realised I could modify them so I could infuse the blades with Dust! Then I couldn't decide what kind to get to test it-" She opens the bag, and shows you her spoils. "-so I got one of each!"
Indeed, there's a veritable rainbow of Dust phials is in the bag, kept firmly in place by the dense foam carrier the bottles have slotted into for safekeeping.
... Fucking Atlesian military contracts-
"Oh, and..." She hands you the other bag. "I got you this."
You reach into the bag and pull a crystal of Æther Dust from it, the slight glow of barely contained energy painting your fingers the same colour as your sword.
"I saw it, and... Blue, told me how you do not like working with Dust much after your... accident, so I figured I should get you something a little safer, and, well... I thought you would appreciate the colour."
... You may need a moment to compose yourself.
A moment passes in silence.
... The moment did not help in the slightest. It's not even the gift, it's not even the fact that she spent 750 Lien on you like, that, it's not even the fact that she seems as awkward about it as you are, it's just... you don't even know anymore.
Agh, why are you so bad at gratitude-
"I- uh, I... thank you, Penny. It's beautiful."
And it is beautiful. The gentle glow lends it an otherworldly aura, and even as you process the fact you're holding something with enough power to blow your arm off, you find yourself gazing at it for a moment longer before gingerly placing it back in the bag.
She smiles, happy that you approve of her gift, you suppose.
Æther Dust Crystal aquired!
"What else is there to do around here? Um, if you're done shopping, that is."
You are, so you try to rack your brain for what's worth doing around here.
{The arcade's always an option.}
... You're in the Arcade.
{No, the actual arcade. With arcade games.}
... Oh-
"I mean, yeah, I've got everything I need, so... you ever been to an arcade before?"
Her eyes narrow slightly in confusion- you watch them glaze over and constrict slightly as she just looks up the word- before widening in realisation.
"Oh, an amusement arcade! No, I haven't been to one before." She puts a finger to her chin in thought. "I do remember being given some old video games to play when they were calibrating my dexterity."
"... Mistral Backstreets?" You ask, hope mingling with curiosity at the information she gave you.
{Oh, God-}
Penny's eyes light up at the mention of your best game.
"Oh, I loved that one! I never got to play against anybody, though, they were always too busy." She leans in a little before continuing, as if she's telling you some big secret. "Honestly, I think they just got mad they could never beat me."
A grin creeps across your face as you start walking towards the arcade.
"Because you have faster than human reflexes, right?"
"And mechanically perfect dexterity. Why, feel like getting your butt kicked?" There's no sting to the words, but you sense the challenge behind them, and the playful little smirk creeping up her face only makes what you're going to spend the next few hours doing with her all the more certain.
"I'm more in the mood for kicking yours."
{Welp. No stopping them now.}
Screw it, I'm putting the radio on.
{Ooh, put on 82.99, they're supposed to be interviewing Faunus that worked for the SDC.}
Ooh, go on then.
Ignoring your sword, the two of you get to the arcade in no time, ignoring the flashing lights and cacophony of arcade machines and yelling children. Instead, you walk over a positively ancient carpet towards the token vendor, then past the air hockey, past the Captain Remnant-themed cabinets, and onwards to your chosen battlefield.
Mistral Backstreets. A racing game, unique for the time it was released in for using the graphical equivalent of optical illusions to show off 3D environments, and a game you fell in love with when you first came to this arcade, and subsequently mastered, before you ended up with a supercomputer for a second brain.
The two of you sit down on the fixed stools, placing your hands on the rubber wheels in front of you.
The title screen gives a cheery blip as each of your credits are registered, and you click through to 2-player.
"Ready to be beat by a girl?" She taunts, picking Admiral Ume, his ruddy-faced visage launching into a deep belly laugh as she confirms her choice.
"Ready to be beat by a human?" You snipe back, choosing Dai Shinju and watching her little confirmation animation play out- a twirl and jump preceding a synthesised "Yay!".
The first track loads. You tighten your grip on the steering wheel as the countdown begins.
"So, Mr Rowan, can you give any basis to the rumours that the SDC paid you in company scrip?"
"No, Liv, we were not paid in company scrip. Well, our mine didn't, I can't speak for any others. No, in a way, it's actually worse- when you live on an SDC mine, that's fairly isolated from the rest of the world, as Dust mines are, and you need a bank branch to take money out so you can pay for your living arrangements, clothing, and so on. Now, as you know, the SDC does own its own banking service."
"It does."
"Well, that's your only option on an SDC mine. They set you up with an account in the local branch when you sign on, and then they put money in and take it out just as needed. Now see, the killer there is fees. There's a fee for everything- there's an overdraft fee, there are transaction fees, there's fees for paying your bills late, something that inevitably happens because they spread your payments out just enough that you can't always guarantee you'll have enough money to pay everything between paychecks- and all of them have interest."
"Really?"
"Yes, really, insane amounts of interest, almost on par with those, payday loan companies you see advertised on TV all the time- they're never huge fees, 250 Lien here or there, but when you throw on ridiculous, 750%, 1,000% APR clauses, it just breeds, until you're stuck paying off interest until... well, until you've paid off your debt a dozen times over. I know there are still people in those mines who've been paying off the same 250 Lien fee for going on ten years now. And they can't just leave to find a better paying job, either, because, well, it's in their contract. 'If the signee has any outstanding debts, they cannot leave their employment with the company.'"
"Heavens. That can't be legal, can it?"
"It is, though. I've sought legal counsel on the matter, and the contract is nigh-ironclad. Under Valish and Atlesian law, they can keep these people a-as indentured servants!"
"Only Valish and Atlesian law? Not Mistrali?"
"I've yet to contact a Mistrali lawyer on the matter, but I can't say I hold any hope on the matter."
"... Hrm. Well, I'm afraid that's all we have time for today. Thank you for coming on the show, Mr Rowan, and I truly hope you find a way to help those still in the mines."
"I hope so too."

Mechanically perfect dexterity can suck your-
A few hours later, you're on your way home, having had your butt thoroughly kicked by a girl at your best game. Not that you mind, mind- it was the first time you've felt challenged in years. In a way, losing was somewhat... freeing. It's proof that there's still a reason to play the game. Naturally, though, off the high of her recent win, Penny decided to get just a little bit smug.
"I could beat you at any game in this arcade."
Well, naturally, you took her up on that offer, and you beat each other's asses up and down that arcade at every damn game that wasn't based on chance or a scam. Granted, considering your collective reaction time put most insects to shame, that last category isn't as broad as it is for most people.
You took the fighting games, due to various quirks of the arcade versions Penny wouldn't have been familiar with, and her relative inexperience with physical joysticks, but she learned quickly, and by the third game, she'd taken her lead again. By the fourth, the two of you had drawn a crowd.
The trivia games were a stalemate. You both had the internet in your head and about the same reaction time, so it simply came down to a matter of which input the game registered first.
Lightgun games went to Penny, easily, though since it was, technically, a co-op game, what really happened was that you beat the entire game and set a new high score nearly double the last one.
After that, all that was left was the so-called scam machines- the claw machines, the token rollers, the block stackers, the penny pushers, you get the idea. Between the two of you, you swept that arcade clean, much to the joy of the various lookers-on who got thrown whatever prizes the two of you didn't want or couldn't carry. In the end, you grabbed something for each of your sisters, and Penny won herself a stuffed bear the size of her torso.
By the time the two of you had finished your combined conquest, it became clear that Penny was the better of the two of you, even with experience on your side, but that in the end, the real loser was the arcade owner.
Now, walking home from the train station, you have to admit- it didn't go as badly as you thought it would.
{Jaune. We, uh... found something out from the Process, earlier. We figured that since you're actually on your way home, you should know.}
"Well, go on then."
Blue tells you.
Mid-step, you stop, your mind grinding to a halt just long enough to fully comprehend what he said, and what it means.
Without really meaning to, or remembering doing it, you sprint the rest of the way home, up the stairs, and into your room in record time. Before anything else, you press a button on the handle, locking it, and quickly sit on your bed.
Your heart is pounding. Your hands are actually shaking with excitement.
"Blue? You're sure this can be done now?"
{I'm pretty sure Cell can't lie, so yes, I'm sure.}
Shall we get to work?
As you summon a virtual keyboard and a coding workstation, you figure it's not worth answering a rhetorical question.
Anyway, to actually answer the damn question: you will never find yourself on the wrong end of your own blade unless things go so horribly, horribly wrong, that they start to get out of my control.
They were talking about the latency free Mesh, so maybe setting Blue up with a latency free connection with Jaune so that they don't have to stuck to each other 24/7?

Interesting. I assumed the idea centered around copies of the Transistor, but that makes a lot of sense.
Soooo is there any way we can get Penny into Beacon? I can't say I love her more than the rest of Jaune's party from the graduation battle, but she is delightful.
