New Good Seed and Omake Rule Updates
Good Seed and Omake Spreadsheet Rules:

Firstly, if you have questions about Good Seeds and the like please read here. If that doesn't answer your question please ping me in thread, or on Discord.

If you write a new Good Seed, or write an omake, please update the spreadsheet if you have access.

If you do not have access, please ping a collaborator (Swordomatic, Alectai, Quest, TehChron, Insane-Not-Crazy, Humbaba, ReaderOfFate, Kaboomatic, no., BungieONI) letting them know what you want and they will update the spreadsheet here. To gain access, you will need a gmail account of some kind. Throwaway emails are fine (I'm using one for the spreadsheet), but to gain access it's as simple as sending me either your email via PM, via DM in Discord, or just in Discord's #spreadsheet-requests channel.

This is mandatory. If a Good Seed does not record their omake by pinging collabs (or just requesting access and editing things themselves - this is the preferred option), I won't give out awards. If a new Good Seed is not recorded here, they won't advance. By doing this it makes the whole thing manageable for me - it's gotten pretty unwieldy!

-----------------------

Omake Writer Instructions:

There are four fields you need to fill out.

Omake Link, which is just a link to your first omake for the turn. This makes it easier for me to read them as I do the update - without this it's tough to know off the bat which omake were written this turn, and to properly

Requested Bonus, which is your requested bonus for your omake. You can leave it up to me if you like. You can see more info in the Good Seed infopost here.

Cultivation Aims. For those following unorthodox paths - higher than 9th Heavenstage or later than 7th Dao Pillar paths. Please put in what you are aiming for before you break through. I have left it as 'default'. If you do not edit it, I'll go with that.

Turn Notes - Do you want to do something specific? Enter a Secret Realm? Help the Clan out in some way? If you have something specific you want to accomplish on this turn, put it in turn notes so I can adjust your Fate around it.

All other fields are for QM use to record character information to properly run the flow of the game.

Huh, okay. An additional boon feels weird for that one - I'm writing a welcome ceremony / initiation omake tomorrow though which may fit that better.

Taking a lifesaving treasure right away felt slightly meta, but I guess it's good to future-proof. I want to actually play out Tasos's story after all. Guess I will do that.

As a rule, you can ask for a treasure of sorts and write it in your omake, or if you're not sure about how your Good Seed gets it, let me know in your Good Seed page edit, and I'll add a small blurb in the Good Seed update. Either-or.

@occipitallobe aside from formations and the basics of cultivation and weapons training what sorts of cultivation is the average disciple trained in. Primarily body cultivation based on the bronze bloodline?

How do I create a link to my good seed post in my Omake?
In your text box (at the top) two symbols to the left from the smiles symbol there is an insert link button, click on it and it will open two boxes of text, in the first you put the URL of the post you want to link (there is a share button in the top right of your posts, right next to the bookmark one, it will give you the URL of the post) and in the second what do you want the link to say.

Demetrius Ceres 1 - The Second chapter of my life
Demetrius Ceres
The Second chapter of my life

The second chapter of my life started when I helped a nice old lady with her luggage after her carriage had fallen over. The bandits where simply an unwelcome surprise, and they did not take it kindly when I told them that their collective worth was that of a pigs head on a pike and that they didn't pose a threat. It was a fair statement as one of the bandits had used the ax head as the handle. After I had insulted their collective intelligence some more I set them on fire. I had hoped for some thanks, but that old fish just said "You have potential" before knocking me out with a staff, tying me up like a pig, and shipping me away in a blue box to the Golden Devil Clan. How? I have no idea. For those who don't know. The Golden Devil Clan is essentially a clan where an individual's worth could be determined by how well their biceps reflect light.

Naturally, my life didn't get easier from there. As soon as I was introduced to the clan as a "Guest" cultivator. I was given resources. I grew stronger. I met another old hag that demanded I help her pick weeds in her garden for free. I had a few choice words to share about that. I also chose to retract those words after I was smacked trough a wall. Truly, my new life is just like my old one. The only difference is that the amount of old hags who bosses me around and makes me work for hours on end has increased in numbers and strength. It is awful. Sometimes they gave me advice for my cultivation, and other rewards, but most of the time when I insisted to hard that they should reward me they started throwing sharp objects in my general direction. I am told that I am a genius by other cultivators, but these old crones seem to take delight in knocking me down a peg or two every time I succeed at something.

It wasn't all the same old same old. My world view changed when I met the honored Spirit Horticulturist Aelius Lucculus, or it would be more accurate to say his feet met my spine. After I had ventured out on justified forest extermination I had been felled after only felling one tree. That old codger Aelius vented his frustration on me by smacking me around for half a day, afterward by tying me up with an iron rope. He had left me hanging on a devious red oak while he lectured me on the topic of nature as a sanctuary, and about humanity's effort to cultivate these barren lands, and a lot of information about herbs, flowers, trees, and other evil things that were beyond my comprehension. He made me realize something important. Nature can be two things. The cruel natural world that wants humanity dead, and nature made by man that helps us survive our tribulations and feed us. A forest that was built by us will serve us well in the future. A natural forest will hunt us down and will tear us apart, piece by piece as we scream for mercy. Spirit beasts kept as beasts of burden, and cultivated for our benefit will assist us in our growth. The beasts in the natural world will hunt us down for fun and end countless mortal lives every day. It was now my purpose to get rid of the natural world and replace it with a man-made one. I had told Aelius my thoughts. He insisted I had gotten it wrong, and muttered something about me being a lost cause, but that can't be right. He had left after that.

I had been left hanging there for three days, and only the timely return of one of Aelius servants that had been sent to retrieve the rope had saved me from being eaten by a bird with teeth. That flying pile of attitude had started at me hunger in its eye for longer than I was comfortable with.

It wasn't long after that before I had heard rumors of an upstart tree laying devastation to towns and farms in the outlying area of the divided mortal kingdoms. As could be considered natural I planed a small crusade against it. With an Ax, I borrowed from Old lady Tekton while she wasn't looking, and some 3rd stage juniors I found slacking under a waterfall we set out to destroy this foul being. My Juniors proved up to the task of setting up camp, making food, and keeping themselves clean, but they folded like straws at the first sight of combat, and I had to repeatedly save them from bandits, wolves, horse-sized bugs, and traps. Clearly, they had never left their compound before, and a hole with spikes in it was apparently a natural feature of the road and should be walked into.

My battle against the Pine Spirit Tree that urned quickly from 4 vs 1 to a 1 vs 1 as my various henchmen had systematically been demolished by flying pine cones, flying pine needles, and wayward roots. After I had thrown them out of harm's way my battle against that green loathsome being with needles that could pierce rocks started in earnest. I chopped what could be chopped. Dodged what could be dodged. Burned what could be burned. The forest we fought in burned far better than the spirit itself, but it helped in preventing its movement, and from there I systematically beat it into submission by cutting it down, piece by piece until there was nothing left, and I only ended up suffered minor injuries in the process. When the henchmen finally returned to the world of consciousness I had them gather up the sap for use later.

When I got back I got a scolding because I didn't bring with me firewood.

At this point in my life. I know some things. I know that I can't do this alone. Not yet. I need allies. I will start gathering them to create a faction. With peers that share my vision. Those who see the same evil as I do. The things the Heavens created to oppose humanity and needs to be destroyed. We will chop down the great forests and make them into fields. Tame the despairing deserts with its many hurricanes and the beasts that feasts on the poor, and make it into a land that we can use for our benefit.

Omake bonus: Cool thing bonus: Preferably an Axe of sorts. Not the Axe Demetrius stole borrowed from that granny.

Demetrius suffering never ends, and ambition is the name of the game. I know his views on how the world work is faulty, but that is part of the fun. The guy has no idea how huge the scale of things are, and how impossible his goal is to fulfill. Well, he won't let that stop him.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone thought up a backup concept for if/when their Good Seed bites it ? I want Xiao Yi to go far, but i gotta admit that some of the ideas that are springing to mind would be very intriguing to see play out in a Xianxia world

Depends if/when it happens. If I'm on a work rotation I might wait until I'm finished before I start brainstorming.

I mean, the real trick will be to just keep up my current pace or improve on it so that hopefully this doesn't happen, but Tribulatons are scary.

Glossary of Terms in Wuxia, Xianxia & Xuanhuan Novels

A glossary of terms which commonly appear in Wuxia, Xianxia & Xuanhuan novels. Table of Contents: Novel Categories Cosmology Beings & Creatures World of Martial Arts Martial Arts Cultivatio…

@occipitallobe and anyone else who is interested. I've stumbled across this while randomly googling, it explains the terms very well and manages to convey the contextual meaning of the words.

Like i personally have a decent gist of the terms because i'm of Chinese descent so some of the cultural elements are familiar to me. But for anyone who is interested in some of the common terms or want to maybe use one or two phrases in their Omakes for that Xianxia flavour, i highly recommend taking a look.

10/10 better then any explanation i can come up with lol

If you're not familiar with Xianxia and Cultivation generally, and have questions, start here.

Thanks for the link either way, but btw occipitallobe linked to that exact page in the first sentence of the thread. Either way, the thought is still appreciated.

Small ideas pops up, but I am rather happy with what I got.

If I did make a new one it would be a former cannibal cultivator who don't want to eat people and decided to join a righteous sect.

Savvas Nicolidis 1 - Journal
Savvas Nicolidis - Journal

The vast majority of cultivators die. I am no exception to statistics and probability. I write this, that what I discover and learn, is not lost. At the very least, we will learn what paths to not walk upon. Just as it is annoying and painful to progress our own cultivation upwards, it is so for clan and society as a whole to progress. (Note: Humans are not 'designed' to cultivate. If we were, cultivation would surely not be annoying and painful at times. Might there be progress made on that front?)

As of the 4th Heavenstage of Qi Condensation, I am driven to ask: Why do we 'need' a constant supply of Qi to continue growing? Without a constant supply of spirit stones, we degenerate, regress in our cultivation. Slowly, but surely. It would take a painfully long time to actually see this play out in action, and I've no documented examples of such an event occurring as yet. Only legends of clans and sects that rose too quickly before destroying themselves out of a resource shortage.

Hypothetically, a cultivator-prisoner might eventually degenerate. But why do so when you could consume them, or just kill them? Prisons for cultivators are expensive. Even mortals do not practice imprisonment much. I digress. It's likely it has happened before, if I only dedicate enough of my life searching the archives to find such an event. I imagine it ended with a desperate final charge or some similar event.

Returning to the degeneration matter. After careful examination of my Qi pathways whilst abstaining from spirit stone and pill consumption - this earned me quite some strange looks - I believe I have uncovered more concrete details on the exact process of 'degeneration'. Naturally, it's a process that actually proceeds through multiple pathways, some of which are quite vital to staying alive as a cultivator. I'm sure Magnus Centenius, that genius bacteria master, would be most interested in the exact details. Assuming he didn't already research the whole of it in preparation for his project, anyway. I imagine he has.

The first feeds into ourselves on a cellular level, with what I believe are 'Qi' cellular structures which I feel merits further investigation. I believe it's part of, if not the complete cause of our extended lifespans as compared to mortals. Interfering or modifying this process might be useful, but it'll almost certainly result in accelerated mortality. Likely too slow as well to actually work on enemy cultivators as well, and probably easily cured and purged. In theory, anyway. There might be some ways about it that may result is useful discoveries. Maybe mortal lifespan may be cheaply improved via Qi-based methods?

(One insidious manner I imagine might be to assert a pill would improve cultivation by prohibiting Qi maintenance of the body, which should actually result in an increase in Qi capabilities but with increasing degeneracy of the body, especially for body cultivators. But such a poison pill seems too easy to notice? Perhaps it might be useful if designed to be temporarily instead, to provide temporary a Qi boost without true lasting consequence.)

The second would be the Qi we use for our myriad techniques. There are many texts on this matter, and it is unlikely I can make useful discoveries here, with so many talented people already working on this line of research. Arrays, spells, there are full libraries on the topic.

The third is the Qi which seems to emanate from our body constantly. It is not much, and in our stealth exercises we learn to suppress it. But part of that suppression does come with suppressing our cultivation base as well, which makes constant exercise futile. The concentration needed would also impede ordinary cultivation, making this a self-defeating exercise. From my examination of the process, there does not seem to be any benefit from these regular 'Qi emanations' we emit. Perhaps it is simply an inherent inefficiency of cultivation. A small fraction of the lass seems to come from our 'maintenance' Qi, leaking out, but some emanates as well from our cultivation base.

Currently, I am experimenting on substances which might suppress this emanation of Qi.

---

Qi suppression project:

Ordinary Mud: Qi emanated through mud regardless. Subsequent examination of mud revealed that it was slightly more concentrated in Qi as compared to before. Deviance was significantly less than actual emanated Qi. Mud appeared to return to baseline levels. Minutely more concentrated than norm after 1 hour. Received many weird looks from other clan members.

Shadow-shade Herb: I mashed into a paste and covered my body with the result. The paste absorbed the Qi I emanated, but was otherwise inert. I accidentally surprised the turtle-musician Ilias Baralis as a result, and gave the impression of being a smelly, weird mortal. The price of science. May be useful as a cheap way to become stealthy. However, absorbs ambient Qi, which may be revealing in addition to creation of problems for cultivation. Cleaning time was rather long. Herb-Paste remained at higher levels of Qi concentration compared to norm even after days had passed.

Note: Acis Drivas really likes herbs. He was helpful in locating this specimen.

Qi-Infused Olive Oil: Breakthrough! I processed the oil personally, and infused it with Qi. Subsequently subbed over body. Appears that the layer functions as a 'second' skin, reflecting Qi back into body. Observed no negative effects thus far from this manner of Qi-Emanation suppression. Interestingly, does not block ambient Qi from being gathered, contrary to expectations.

Addendum: Had a 1st heaven-stage Qi Condenser cast a weak attack spell on me. Oil provides no resistance to the Qi attack. Attempted to emanate Qi manually. Was successful after moderate exertion. Oil did not appear to impede my own attempts at casting Qi-spells.

Currently seeing if personal time to process the Qi-Infused Oil is strictly required. It may be possible to have the majority of the product be completed by mortals prior to applying personal Qi to it. My current calculations suggest that regular processing of this Qi-Infused Oil results in a very slight gain in the speed of my cultivation compared to the norm. More research required. Major breakthrough in the progress of the clan's Qi Condensers may be possible if this is the case, converting a modest workload of cultivation over to mortals, with marginal gains across the entire clan (and a total effect that would be significant).

Additionally.

I have gained a major reputation for eccentricity within the clan as a result of this project. I hope this does not make others averse to working with me in the future.

Bonus: One life-saving treasure, please!

I'll echo this, but with a different resource: @xiranjayzhao | Linktree. Admittedly, it's very shitpost-y b/c Twitter, but it might be useful, and it's definitely entertaining.

@occipitallobe Question. Do we know much yet about the geography of the Scarred Lands? I am currently writing an Omake based around Minervina journeying their to find her Life Saving Treasure. Would be particularly keen to know how it got its moniker.

how long do we have to make an omake (aka the next good seeds report)? wanna know how much time i have left.

Any informal rules for name dropping other good seeds in my future Omakes. I don't have to ask for permission?
if its just referencing something from the seed report or their own Omakes, then it should be fine, but if your adding anything to the character then you should probably ask first.

how long do we have to make an omake (aka the next good seeds report)? wanna know how much time i have left.
Based on how long it was last time, you have about a week or so, but occipitallobe will generally let us know a day or so before he puts the next seed report up

Tasos Basilakes 2 - Aim at Yourself
Aim at Yourself
A Tasos Basilakes Omake

The Basilakes family's choice to live away from the Dawn Fortress was not coincidental - even in this strange world, the family held close to their roots and had the chance of trading the blasted heat of the Organ Meat Desert in favour of a posting that more resembled the hills, mountains and sloped steppes of their now-lost home. A posting so far from the capital would have been seen as a slight to another clan - sat against the Quiet Peaks, below the Turtlebone, closer to both the Sorrowful Blacksmith Sect and the Yuan Clan.

The family embraced their role - seeing it as a post of honor. They, and no other, were given the trust of guarding the mouth of the Colossus Footstep Pass. They, and no other, had been trusted with holding the rear so that the rest of the Clan could deal with the enemies in front, without fear of backstabbing.

However, as Tasos had soon realized, this left the Basilakes woefully unprepared for the reality of the Organ Meat Desert. The young archer had been lucky to find a posting as a guard for a caravan, taking mountain products and mined goods to the capital - he had left under-supplied and would have quickly died of dehydration otherwise. Still, such was years ago - Tasos had often heard his father say that when he and Antonina had left the Fortress, they had but known each other, but when they arrived to the Basilakes Manor their eldest son had already learned to walk. Living it was different than hearing it.

The young teen, not yet grown into his lanky build, that had left the Basilakes manor was no more. Still a couple of years elder than expected for an initiate, as was traditional for the the, Tasos was now well and truly grown and had spent the journey honing his physical skills and archery, and his mind alike. He'd been well-learned before, yes - but literacy could only cover the lack of experience so much, and a Turtle World merchant was a merchant nonetheless. By spending time and paying attention, Tasos had gone from passable at best in the Turtle World script and language to well and truly proficient, and had developed a keen eye for the appraisal of goods and a knack for accounting.

Still, nothing could prepare Tasos for the reality of the fortress proper - gleaming like a jewel against the white and cream of the endless dunes, like a beacon of hope against a background of bleak dullness. It swayed in the light, a heat mirage giving it an ethereal feel - like one would blink, to find that it had vanished into thin air.

The moment the caravan made it inside, Tasos unwrapped a cloth from around his head - it had been valuable to protect him from the desert heat, but now he found it suffocating. He collected his pay from the merchant, his contract now done, and dropped from the cart - taking in the fertile greens and freshness of the air. He had missed the feeling.

A quick ask let Tasos know that he still had a moon before the Initiation - enough time to make his way to the mustering grounds with time to spare from where he was, even on foot. With that in mind, Tasos decided to take his time - newfound resolve was not enough to cure him of his wanderlust, after all. Settlement to settlement he went, talking to people and seeing the sights, trying experiences wile he had the chance to.

It was near the last settlement before arriving at the Mustering Grounds that Tasos came upon an old man, eyes white as milk and wearing a spindly beard going down to the ground with the odd bronzelike twine poking out among a forest of white. The man was hunchbacked, dressed in burgundy robes - and his eyes would track those that approached him, seeing without sight. Behind him was a wooden cart, full of trinkets and other baubles - not an uncommon sight in these lands, but there was something that felt different about this particular one.

Tasos approached and maneuvered his way past the group of people browsing the wares, his eyes running over the many trinkets. He fixated on one - small, towards the back, and so covered by grime and dirt that a black film came out when Tasos scratched at it with his nails, the colour still black below. It was light - lighter than he had expected - and shaped like an egg of some sort, though Tasos had the suspicion that the form inside would be different, if the grime was removed.

He turned to the old man.

"How much?" He asked - and the old man answered. Tasos frowned, for the number was all he had, to the dime - and he still had some days to go before making it to the Mustering Grounds. His attempts to haggle proved fruitless - and yet deep inside, his mind was already made up.

Tasos left the cart destitute, yet feeling richer - and intent to hunt himself a meal for the day, now that he could not buy it. Weeks later, after much polishing, the last of the grime was cleared - revealing the shape of a cicada, worked into clouded green Jade.

"Welcome, Initiates" spoke a man carrying more presence than what Tasos had seen in entire rooms, much less people. "I am Staurakios Palaiologos - Master of Disciples, and I will be the judge of your progress in the coming years".

There was a near-simultaneous gulp by all aspirants, so loud as to echo around the field.

"You are hear by virtue of your distinction - your bloodline, your achievements" The Master of Disciples continued. "Yet from now one, said achievements matter not. From this day on, you are of the Clan, will learn what it means to be a Cultivator of the Clan - and will fulfill the demands that such implies. Or you will falter - and some of you will falter".

There was a low murmur - to which Master Palaiologos motioned to quell the noise.

"I do not say this lightly - but it is the truth. Only the best, the brightest, but most importantly the most dedicated and resolute in their convictions will be able to raise above their peers and become the ones to make the legends - instead of reading about them" The master stated, running his gaze over the whole crowd. Tasos could have sworn that his eyes steadied on him for a moment. "It is up to you to mold yourself into that person. I eagerly await to see your progress"

That said, the Elder turned - and retreated inside a pavilion as two Kentarchos and an Optio began explaining what the training would entail. Tasos tuned out most of that explanation, fixing only on key details until names began to be called - and his came up pretty quick.

"Anastasios Basilakes!" The Optio - a bright-eyed woman with a broad, strong build - called, and Tasos stepped forward. The woman glanced at the bow strapped to his back and whistled. "Fancy tool you have, Anastasios"

"Tasos, please" Tasos answered, perhaps a little snappishly. The Optio scratched and changed a note on her list, then nodded.

"We know your family, and judging by the bow you don't stray far from the tree" She commented. Peering a bit closer, the Optio nodded further. "Well-trained too, it seems. Literacy skills?"

"Fluent in our language, good enough in Turtle World tongue as a result of spending time with a caravan. Same with the written word, too" Something told Tasos that this was not the moment for clever quips. "Baseline mathematics, with some accounting and appraisal thanks to that same caravan. I'm good at traveling through the wilderness and caring for myself as well"

"Noted. Close combat?" The Optio prompted - making Tasos grimace. "Not a strength?"

"Could be better. I'm trained, but it's not what I'd consider my best" He admitted. "Something to work on"

"Something to work on, then. Sounds like you're heading down the same path as most of your kinsmen, and we'd be damn glad to have another Basilakes Akrites" The Optio answered. She motioned for Tasos's hand, and drew blood on the center of the palm "Place your hand on the glyph, and let us see what you're made of"

Tasos did so - and a warmth followed by the prickling of pins traveled up his arm and through his body. He looked down at his hand - which was gleaming slightly - and a resonant cool, matching the waves of warmth from the glyph, started emanating from his bow in matching frequency. It almost felt like the bow was drinking the energy in.

The Optio pulled his hand off the glyph forcefully, causing Tasos to stumble.

"Initiate" She said, her voice reproachful. "You were supposed to mention that you had already been awakened to your Qi"

"Uh, I wasn't aware?" Tasos floundered - he hadn't been aware such a thing was possible. "I swear, I didn't know"

The Optio frowned again, and looked at Tasos's bow.

"Show me your weapon, Initiate" She ordered - and Tasos swung the Skycarver Basilisk then offered it to the Optio. The woman stretched her hand - and flinched back the moment she came within an inch of it. Her face turned to one of curiosity, and she turned to one of the Kentarchos. "Akrites still, but to the Vanguard as well, perhaps. Take him to Elder Palaiologos - this officially went above my rate a while ago"

As the Kentarchos led Tasos into the pavilion, he figured that he had either done something very right, or very wrong. He glanced back a second, and could have sworn he saw the old man from the cart staring at him from atop the arena wall - gone after a blink.

Again, not sure if what I'm writing here works - please let me know if anything needs changing. I tried to add a hook for the lifesaving treasure too.

Rina Callista 7 - Dialogues of Defiance
Rina Callista
Dialogues of Defiance
The last few weeks had been exceptionally good! Rina would even dare call them some of the best of her life! Barring a few exceptions at any rate from here mostly involving some thugs who thought two Qi Condensation adventurers were easy prey--since despite her best efforts, Rina still came off to be as threatening as a particularly fierce kitten to one who hadn't seen her in action.

Apparently adventuring in places rich with beasts and the occasional valuable spirit herb draws in just as many people to kill and take other's stuff as it does people willing to benefit from the resource in the first place!

"It's really all a terrible mess I think." Rina ranted one evening, while dinner was in the middle of being cooked. "It's like... It's like you get a bunch of people who are a little bit stronger, and they just suddenly go terribly mad with power! Like all of their humanity in the past can get thrown out in favor of taking the path of least resistance!"

"It's the way the world is" Xu Zhen shrugged, poking the fire with his cane and stirring the coals up. "Men die for wealth as Birds die for food."

"Yes, that's the way it is now" Rina would retort then, crossing her arms and leaning back against a tree. "But the scale of it is madness! It's..." She extends her arms and clenches her hands into fists. "It's like.. It's like there's a certain insanity that fills the hearts of the people, if not kept under strict control. The possibility of great power exists, somewhere in the world. It's available for the tiniest fraction of a fraction of people who have the right mindset and the right foundation to advance through the ranks. But it's like the existence of that possibilities drives everyone else to murderous rages!"

"Can you blame them?" Xu Zhen shrugged. "The lure of immortal life is intoxicating--even if few have truly touched on its boundaries, the act of Cultivation can bring people closer to a long life. There are not enough resources for everyone to begin with--so is it that strange that when someone feels that they have a shot at increasing their chances a bit, they'll result in murder? It's just how the world is."

"See, that?" Rina points. "That's what I don't like--'That's just how the world is'--it's a cop-out! An excuse! It doesn't require a great deal of effort in the grand scheme of things to reduce suffering--the cost of a single Core Formation Cultivator is enough to ensure billions of mortals can live a long and fruitful life!"

"And that one Core Formation you lack is one less great front that can be protected" Xu Zhen retorts. "It is a grand and noble ideal to hold--I certainly wouldn't dismiss someone for taking such a route! But you must realize that all it takes is one Demonic Sect tapping into the Blood Path and striking, and these grand and noble ideals become little more than food to nourish a great evil. It is precisely this that led to the ascension of the Demonic Altar Sect! When the Seventh Prince of the Great Wei Dynasty stumbled upon the Demonic Altar, and formed a contract with it at the cost of his lineage and much of his great population!"

"That, that right there." Rina gestures. "That's the problem with the world. A realm that's the stronghold of the Righteous, with few peers and equals--and it just so happens to have a relic capable of bringing a single mortal to Spirit Severing in one jump lying around? Based on a price nobody else agreed to? In a place that a mere mortal has access to?"

Xu Zhen shakes his head, smilingly weakly. "It is rather ridiculous when you put it that way, isn't it?"

"It's worse than ridiculous, it's actively malicious." Rina huffs and leans back again. "The sheer size of the world from the perspective of anything short of Nascent Soul is mind boggling--and yet how many people keep stumbling across these legacies that let them achieve near omnipotence in a single bound? Even back home, we keep seeing this cycle starting up--and it's only though our diligence that few of these ever rise to the point of being a danger."

"I would have thought the Golden Devils would consider this an asset?" Xu Zhen turns his attention back to the cooking. Rina sighs though. "We do archive most of these findings, but most of them are sealed by the Elder Council, they often require blood sacrifice on a grand scale, and often work even better when used against the unwilling."

"Squeamish?" He chimes in, and Rina frowns. "No, we have standards, they call us a Demonic Clan for the methods we are willing to employ to protect our lands. Be it poisons, curses--and yes, occasionally making an example of the greatest criminals through techniques that border the Blood Path. But these methods are intended to supplement discipline, strength, and effective tactics. To play along with the Righteous Path's rules and restrictions when we are not protected by them would be simply asking to die. And so we don't."

"Hmm." Xu Zhen nods. "I do understand what you're getting at, and I suppose I don't have room to talk much on the matter--the Strength Purity Sect has always been strong enough that the rules tend to be followed in spirit--if not necessarily by the letter."

"Hence why you're stuck here with a 'Demon' instead of at home throwing down with the Blood Path, huh?" Rina grinned--Xu Zhen waved it off. "Guilty as charged, it's work that needs to be done--yes--but it's just not my..." He shrugs. "It's not my thing? I'm not one of those thugs who constantly picks fights everywhere he goes because he needs constant validation. I'm happy with the path I want to go on--it's just not the Path that we need, you know?"

"I don't see why what you want and what you need should come into conflict though?" Rina supplied. "I mean, yeah--sure--I like reading, I like studying, but I also like being this tough. Do you know how fun it is to be able to pick up a large boulder and use it as a kickball?" Xu Zhen stopped and stared at her--she blushed. "Well, it's fun! And the work really does need doing. If the Heavens are going to keep dropping monsters down on us to discourage us from doing right by our people, then it's our job to keep stomping on those monsters until the Heavens stop doing that."

"Awfully bold, to talk about making the Heavens do anything or not, are you?" Xu Zhen teased. Rina puffed herself up and put her hands on her waist. "Hey, don't you guys keep talking about how 'Cultivation is Defying the Heavens?' Same difference! If the Heavens are going to decree a world that's constantly full of monsters to encourage good people to be monstrous in turn. Then the solution is to get strong enough to tell the Heavens no, and to build a world that people can be happy living in."

"Going to have a rough time with that" Xu Zhen points out. "Plenty of people are perfectly happy with how things are right now, and most people who try to Defy the Heavens end up a pile of ash in a wasteland somewhere."

"Hmph!" Rina sticks her nose up. "I just need to work that much harder and become that much stronger then. I'll make a happier world whether the Heavens want me to or not! That's my Dao!"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dinner was delicious--apparently skill in fire arts and long nights in the archives makes for a brilliant chef! Of course, even Rina knew how to roast an average beast well enough to be palatable--but that was no reason not to take advantage of having a friend for the day!

The next day dawned bright and early, and the questing began anew. Angry demonic beasts charging in with murder in mind! Great and towering edifices to climb up and around! At least one example of needing to push a big chunk of rock down so it would create a convienent ramp up to a relatively pristine ridge! (That even had a few nice herbs to split up! Very nice!)

It was around mid-day when things got spicy again.

"You hear that?" Xu Zhen muttered, bringing his cane up and cupping his ear.

"... I feel that" Rina replied, frowning, and picking up the pace. A sound of rumbling, tumbling, shockwaves through the very earth. It was what was colloquially known as a bad sign

This alone would more than cause for concern in and of itself. The shrill scream that came with it was of... Moderately more concern.

"Right, we're doing this?" Xu Zhen steadied himself.

"Of course we're doing this" Rina grinned, flicking her wrists and letting her weapons return to full size. "I'll take point!"

She floods her system with Qi, the energies of creation--and channels it deeply into her legs.

It is a common misconception, to say that those who bear the Blood of Bronze are slow. This is... Technically accurate, though somewhat misleading.

They do indeed find themselves having a hard time against a peer who specializes in close combat, who use slippery and mysterious techniques to bypass one's guard and strike at the most vulnerable spots. They lack a certain flexibility in other words.

Closing distance though? That was less a matter of speed and more a matter of power

And Power was something the Blood of Bronze provided in abundance.

A sonic boom burst outward, and a stream of copper and trailing white-gold arced from the woodlands of the foothills. Below was a great disturbance, a great worm of the depths bursting free from its feasting on the veins of earth, lashing out at a convoy. It was being bombarded by streams of black fire, hissing and dripping acid at the black-clad Cultivators who stood against it. Some had already died, devoured by the fell monster's maw or reduced to sludge by acidic drool.

"Hold!" Cried the leader, an expert of the Ninth Heavenstage of Qi Condensation. "Hold damn you! The Master requires his sacrifices! The beast is strong, but not almighty! Strike it low before we are noticed!" The Worm screeched its challenge again, and flinched back as dark lightning lashed out, a technique generated by the shadowy commander.

A streak of light from the horizon, careening towards the great Worm. It had no time to react, little time to move, as an arc of shining blue filled the air, sword-light extended from a glowing heavy sword. It is caught, three-quarters of the way across its body, and the beast is bisected by the blow.

A beat, and a ray of putrescent blood gushed from the worm's body. It writhed and fell to the ground, as its killer settles down before it. A simple dress over a light breastplate, armored boots, and bearing a heavy sword of shining blue glass and a spirit-steel shield. Her copper skin and white-gold hair settled, untouched by the violence that had just unfolded. She opened one bespectacled eye, and tilted her head at the sight ahead of her.

Indeed, the beast was slain, but the ones being attacked were no saints either. Figures clad in black, flinching back as the threat is extinguished. Nothing crazy in itself...

What was more concerning were the cages and carts--a veritable convoy. A brief glance over them saw the flickering vestiges of concealment spells, disrupted by a beast disturbed by the great mass treading on its territory. A sniff of the air, and a scent of power--many of these prisoners were Cultivators in their own right, their Qi sealed by some mechanism.

"Well, well, well." Rina mused, straightening up. "Talk of sacrifices, and a bunch of prisoners?" Her power swelled, the cultivation base of a Tenth Heavenstage expert pressing on the thugs. "I think... We need to have a little discussion."

The leader flinched back. "Golden Devil Clan..." He spat. "We've no quarrel with you and yours, and this is not your territory either! Your assistance is welcome, but we will not tolerate further interference!"

Rina smiled, and stepped forward. "Oh, but I want to interfere. Slave trafficking is very much one of the evils we seek to remove from this world."

"They're Blood Path!" A girlish voice screamed--an androgynous looking figure buried in black robes in one of the cages screamed. "It's a big ritual they're casting here! You have to save us!"

"Bah! No choice then! Men! To me!" The leader bellowed--apparently more willing to throw down with a single human than a great spirit beast. "We'll capture this one to make up our losses!"

"You didn't think I came here alone though, did you?" Rina's smile took on a predatory cast--and the forming attackers hesitated.

That hesitation was fatal.

Her swelling power served to muffle most other Qi Emanations in the field--a smothering mass that blinded the senses and focused the attention on herself. And not, say--the fellow of the Eighth Heavenstage creeping up the back, and muttering a spell formulation that encompassed the enemy formation.

"Three Hells Immolation!" Xu Zhen intoned, a boundary line flashing into view around the formed up experts--and filling that area with fires drawn from the depths of the earth. He grimaced as his Qi sagged from the grand art, and fell to a knee--but the spell was complete, the work done.

And the enemies reduced to ash in the wind.

"Good job!" Rina raised a thumbs up to Xu Zhen--who stabilized himself, rising to his feet. "Nice and clean like all fights should be!"

There's a sound of cheering from the cages. "We're saved! We're saved!" The girl who gave warning in the first place cried out. "We've got to get out of here though! This place is going to be really dangerous soon!"

"Dangerous like how?" Xu Zhen asked, turning over to her.

"I'll tell you once you've gotten me out of here!" She shakes the bars of the cage. "But it's really bad! We're all in terrible danger!"

It seemed that the adventure was about to take a turn for the dramatic after all!

Rina wondered just where this was all going though--Blood Path normally favors mortals, right?

She had a bad feeling about this...

more than last time

hands are acting up - i'd say at least 2-3 days before I start on the next update
No worries, take your time! As you can probably see we're having a blast discussing and worldbuilding via our Omakes.
:D The Shounen feel is strong with this one! I gotta say, i really like how her mindset is so different from the standard. The deconstruction of the Xianxia/Wuxia genre through her eyes was amazing.

I mean, i personally like my Xianxia/Wuxia to have that Tragic overtones and those dramatic story beats. But seeing it broken down by the only sensible cultivator remaining is pretty hilarious.

Any informal rules for name dropping other good seeds in my future Omakes. I don't have to ask for permission?
Personally speaking, if you ever want to use Xiao Yi please feel free to do so! I don't really have any restrictions on how he's depicted ? Since i'm trying to convey the sense that he is average as a good seed.

So losing a spar, or seeking help from your Good Seed are all OK and fine with me! This is of course applicable to everyone who wants to use him.
