Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Eh, not really remember when he didn't want to pay that giant for building the walls and sent Loki to sabotage him?
I mean there are plenty of cases where he kept deals but hes also a trickster god. Also that was a fucking bullshit deal anyways he wanted the sun, the moon, and freyja. Also he did keep his side of the deal since they couldn't actually fulfill the deal sure its fucking sneaky but he didn't break any promise.

RATIONALE
All in on the Forge; the quicker its done, the less chance for interference.
Between Molly and Tiffany, thats 7AP committed. If Joe Magarac rolls high, we finish it this turn.
If not, we finish next turn.

Secure the Last Station Never-Never to get rid of staging posts for attackers. Or spies for that matter.

I dropped Bridges this month for Molly personally building Porter a train.
Not the most mechanically optimal choice to do it personally, but narratively it seemed appropriate. Plus, a train improves his ability to defend Last Station. Next turn, we put two AP on Bridges(1 normal, 1 malcoffee).

I think it's worth remembering that there's a certain amount of syncretism in the DF. There seems to be a distinct split in power tiers where you have gods like Odin and gods like the white god. Within that there's probably some variance, but not necessarily to the extent a direct transplant from myth might imply.

The guys at the top are properly cosmic, and some to all of them are allegedly the same person as poor a job as Butcher does demonstrating that in his story.

It's more like the entity behind everyone's creation myths told the down stream guys to pack it in.

So the answer to questions like "how did the white god nerf the Hindu pantheon ?" Is, as I understand it, supposed to be that they were Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva at the time.

Edit:

We keep running into time intensive events, I think getting that sleep replacement for willpower regen may be important to get sooner rather than later.

Pretty much it might vary but it seems likely. There's also the fact gods have had multiple mantles over time so there are probably some gods that have been as radically different as mortal Mab is to current Mab.

--[][FAMILY TIME] [SGI] Updated Family Unknown, now that you know the full story your feelings towards your maternal grandparents are complicated to say the least, but people change right? And even if they didn't you have other more distant family in Boston that it would be cool to meet. 1 SGI AP
Really not a fan of meeting Mom's family.

We have literally nothing to do with them and I see no reason to change that just because they are blood.
They don't seem particularly sympathetic, there's no strong reason to do anything about them.

It needs either line of sight, line of effect or a focus comparable to what you use for your crown. So you cannot curse Nicodemus by having Michael speak his name at you, but if you had a picture he is fair game, at least to attempt. Molly does not know how good his protections are

Anyway will update the character sheet in the morning. Good night guys.
We need to make a little voodoo doll to stick needles into whenever we get bored.

Butcher is pretty strongly Christian; he's about as subtle with his faith's influence on his work as C.S Lewis.

Not to derail, but I feel I have to protest that comparison as unfair. C. S. Lewis's works weren't just "influenced" by his faith, they were straight up Christian allegory morality tales. Outright medieval style in purpose, if not in form.

At worst Butcher follows the same cultural background Christian monotheism a lot of modern western urban fantasy does. That if the Christian God is around, then *of course* he is the strongest and/or special compared to any other gods.

It's funny how Jim thought Odin would be the one god who cared about humanity when in the myths he's as dishonorable and evil as Zeus; at least Zeus cared for customs and traditions (like guest right, which is another thing Jim mistakenly attributed to Odin) while Odin had a vile reputation as someone who favored berserkers and criminals.

Everything Odin did in myths, was to try to somehow go against fate and stop Ragnarök. And while that might sound as selfish at first, as Zeus being worried about being overthrown, humanity surviving the "Twilight of the Gods" through new Adam and Eve figures was almost certainly a new Christian retcon.

Basically, mythological Odin was a scheming bastard, yes, but basically motivated by trying to stop the end of the world, and saw humans as useful for that purpose (the whole point of Valhalla and Einherjar).

Dresdenverse Odin is actually not that far off.

Do you really think its critical to resume this immediately?
As opposed to continuing next turn and doubling down?

We have information thats more than two decades old, and even through that lens, her parents werent actively malicious or even abusive. Emotionally withdrawn, but they did seem to try to do what they thought was right by her.
People do change, for the better or the worse, in that time.

Besides, doesnt really matter if they are sympathetic or not.
We have made powerful enemies, and those enemies will investigate avenues to come at us, even if those avenues are long-estranged family members.

Family members that may have been considered off-limits when it was just Michael Carpenter, might be reconsidered now.Thats a vulnerability that needs to be investigated and mitigated if at all possible.
We simply cannot afford ignorance in this matter.

Nevermind the non-supernatural legal consequences of her ancestry, if not for Molly, then her siblings.

Besides, Charity's story is clear about her magic activating during a social meeting at her parent's place where a supernatural of some sort was present. And its unclear if the further incident at the diner was a coincidence, or her being hunted.
So there's stuff to address there anyway.

Especially since magic in the Dresdenverse is often linked to ancestry.

Molly has to introduce Rosie to the idea that... er She is Legion. :V
Yeah, that's something you tell a prospective roommate before moving in together.

Can Molly even direct it? I'm not sure even Unconquered Sun could do it without going through a redemption/detox and Molly is an Infernal.
It's not directly directing it. The idea, as of last discussion, is to set up our chosen bearer in a situation that would fit its selection criteria as right in front of it as we can, and then release it with an ideal candidate doing all the right things right in front of it. There was also talk of taking it to our hell where the only valid targets present would be people we allowed to be there.

The idea wasn't controlling it, but controlling the circumstances around it.

All of that said, I think that we need a better idea for the other exaltation before we do anything with it. If releasing one is supposed to release the other, than we want eyes on both before we do anything.

Unfortunately not, they have separate minds even as they share a soul
Aren't we able to spend essence to synchronize our memories?

Again, is Odin in any way weakened asides from not being immortal? Him grabbing more mantles might mean he's actually stronger now than he was before, just killable. It reads like the only cost for being active in the world is being able to get jumped; it doesn't sound like his power is curtailed or restricted at all.
Given that his pantheon is famously not properly immortal, that's not much of a restriction.

Eh, as long as we don't know them and don't care about them, they can hardly be leverage against us.

Not more than any regular person we know as a friend at least, probably less so.

I just see no point in bringing new characters I don't like into the story, not when there are enough potentially likable ones around we haven't yet interacted with.

Yes, babies are not really in any state to be taught anyway. That said the house shopping does have to be done in person at least this turn since Molly has to introduce Rosie to the idea that... er She is Legion. :V
Surely, multiple SGI clones could make that point just as effectively.

Next turn, we put two AP on Bridges(1 normal, 1 malcoffee).
Even if we're able to commit 2 AP next month, is Brother D?

So on what to give the clones. We have Essence x10 points to spend at 1 point per dot of merit. This is both a LOT and not enough, if you want to break the game. So how do we go about it? Here is how.

True Faith - 10 points.
Characters with True Faith can perform these miracles, or other equivalent ones by spending a Willpower point.
  • Countermagic based on True Faith rating
  • Ward off demons and Witches
  • Acceptance: By recognizing the oneness of faith you can ignore the effects of one True Faith miracle someone else performed
  • Faith healing based on True Faith rating. Can cure both damage and diseases, and at really high level even bring back the dead
  • Transmutation: Water to wine, or poison to water. No roll required
  • Mental resistance: Add Faith to Willpower for resisting mental assault. You might become immune to supernatural coercion at certain levels of Faith
  • Holy shielding: Add Faith to soak
  • Visions: You gain a vision or prophecy
  • Intercession: You intercede with the Powers That Be, to lift a curse or to stay death
  • Penance: True Faith vs Willpower. If you win the target is overcome with remorse, or, if they are truly evil, with thoughts of suicide and recklessness
This makes them immune to all forms of mindcontrol, gives them healing ability, countermagic, warding skills, tankiness by adding dice to their Soak, and the ability to redeem evil beings, like say the fallen (Potentially).

They have the immunity Merit.

Immunity - 16 points
Invulnerable to all physical threats except one unique bane (the Holy Lance of Longinus, the Sword of Roland,) or invulnerable until Phylactery destroyed, requiring an equally unique bane.
So simply put the bane as Molly's Sword, since it is thematic that her clones are not immune to her own sword.

Now KEEP IN MIND, this is only PHYSICAL immunity, stuff like swords, fire, magic swords etc. Direct magic like curses, etc will still hit them.

So that is 26 points down and we still have 14 points to spend on merits.

We can add stuff like gifts, or further merits like this...

Innate Magical Ability (5 Points) You have some sort of magical ability that makes you unique. The ability is different from any normal vampiric power or Discipline. The exact nature of the ability should remain somewhat mysterious to you, though you have some say in what the ability is. The ability has an estimated power level similar to a Level Three Discipline.

So we can give them the quivalent of Iron Mountain, Celerity Potence and Fortitude. Basic dice adders and soak adders, making them truly monsterous to fight. So even if enemies get past the immunity, they still have plenty to fight with.

@uju32 would you swap making a train body for Porter and use this AP in the Thousand Eyes option? In addition to it not being an activity that requires Molly prime (our servants can do it easily) the other option will leave us more informed of events, giving both a greater sensation of a living world and informing the consequences and how others react to ours achievements, in addition to being a basic option that has been waiting for a long time.

@DragonParadox you still haven't answered me if the Thousand Eyes option will give only mundane information or mundane and supernatural information? Since a month's effort should be more than enough for Molly to create a rumor mill for both of them, even if it's just for general information.

Surprisingly (or perhaps not) I almost fully agree with your plan, bar two things:
1) Training Wizards - we need to deal with traitors first, and then do this action. Because "The White Council in its wisdom seems to have decided that Chicago is the ideal place to set up a training camp for young wizards to serve in the Wardens" is a decision that has almost certainly been affected by the traitors and compromised agents in their midst to insert spies and saboteurs into Chicago. Perhaps even agents provocateurs, meant to sour our relationship with White Council, because strengthening it
2) Porter's train body. I fully agree that we need to do it, strongly, but we need to secure the exaltation shard first.

It will give you mundane information, but it should be noted that many supernatural beings have a mundane footprint. So if you see a few thousand people gathering around a previously isolated Mayan Pyramid it's a good bet the Red Court is up to some nasty stuff. Same with that plane you intercepted on the way to Boston.

Ok, in the absence of the answer about needing AP for alchmical production, I shuffled it to SGI AP to consume the rest of it. Here is my plan proposal (reasoning below):

[]PLAN SECURITY HOME AND ABROAD
-[] MOLLY PRIME: 6 AP + 2 Malcoffee AP
--[][INVESTIGATIONS] NEW Secure the Shard of Gold:
The Temple of Ra Descending holds a mechanism of ancient wonder at the heart of which rests a shard of power born of past ages. See if you can get them to accept more protections: 1 AP

--[][WRITE-IN INVESTIGATIONS][SGI] The stars were made to guide them: Investigate astrological systems in light of our Crown knowledge to find our what works, together with Bob: 1 SGI AP
--[][WRITE-IN INVESTIGATIONS][SGI] Little green men: you know where aliens are. Propagate that information back to SETI: 1 SGI AP
--[][INVESTIGATIONS] [SGI] NEW Teachings of Winter: Teach unknown Paths to the spirit binders of Sanctuary.Your presence, in some manner will help smooth matters. 3 SGI AP
--[][ARCANE ALLIES] Cauldron Bubble, your new friends in the Ordo Lebetis could use more help
---[] Updated [SGI] Online presence, See if you can convince the others to set up a strong online presence: 1 SGI AP
--[][WRITE-IN ARCANE ALLIES] From the pen of: Start working with Bob on your next book, "soul gazes made safer: tricks to protect your soul": 1 SGI AP
--[][FAMILY TIME] [SGI] NEW Introductions to more of you: Twin jokes. Get your family used to other yous: 1 SGI AP
--[][WRITE-IN FAMILY TIME] [SGI] Family that crafts together: Help Michael in his mundane job: 1 SGI AP
--[][WRITE-IN ALCHEMY]: Cooking the good stuff: Produce Malcoffee, Astarte Venerian and Nabu Mercury for yourself and your allies: 3 SGI AP

Basically, we are setting up for the next turn, and ones after that. Secure the exaltation, so it doesn't go off, secure the traitors, so there are no incidents, secure the NeverNever around Last Station. Get the dog so it can start to be raised, make the forge to forge wonders in next turn. And get Rosie a home as we promised.

The golden shard security part also leads us back to Vegas as a follow-up, which is important from the alliance-building perspective.

I mostly agree with Uju's plan, with the following differences:
1) I switch Baby Wizards to Traitor, Enemy of All. I consider Traitor action being a prerequisite to involved dealings with White Council, or having them establish a large presence in Chicago. Because their traitors, Peabody primarily, are well-placed to create incidents, gather intel, etc. This is even called out in our meeting with Merlin, where we told him the whole truth about our access to spirits we would be lending them. We need to cull the bad agents first, so we don't have to deal with them later.
2) I switch Porter's train body to securing the exaltation. Make no mistake - I WANT to make Porter's body. This is one of the things I am looking forward to. I don't want to delegate it to our SGI clones either, because I want to go well beyond the expectations. Porter is one of our first allies, and nearly the first one who has allied with us not out of prior history. He lent us his sanctuary, allowed to take over, essentially. He deserves a lot.
3) I removed Family Unknown investigation from SGI schedule. Because I think it should be done as the primary body investigation. Because Charity is known to everyone as Michael's wife, and now Molly's mother. Setting up traps with and within her estranged family on the off-chance they'll work and do damage to Michael and now Molly is well within the playbook of our adversaries. Their new (adopted ?) child might be a denarian (agent) or an outsider cultist, they might be the same, they might be under suvrveliance, etc. The whole story as Chiarity told it was full of plothooks that I won't risk SGI on.
4) I added several SGI activities as write-ins, pending @DragonParadox approval:
4.1) Family that crafts together. Michael has a mundane job, and we have craft 4, favored. We can be of great help to him, and interact with him in a far more human, and importantly mundane human capacity. Not as a war queen of the Fivefold Courts, brass armor and flaming sword, the flaming crown on her head, nor as a sorceress supreme, the arcane words rending reality at our command. As a craftswoman and his daughter.
4.2) The stars were made to guide them. We have a coordinate system for celestial objects that our exaltation supplied. We have coordinates of worlds with alien life. We know that stars were made to guide Starborn, and OOC we know of exalted Astrology. Doing some preliminary investigations in the background to prime us and Harry (who, it seems, would do great as a Starborn, by design of the modern universe itself) to learn Divination (thus further obscuring the Crown, which is important) costs us nothing, and might help us a lot
4.3) Little green men. Ok, this is my personal bias here. We have knowledge that people in SETI, honest scientists and enthusiasts have dedicated and sacrificed their lives towards finding. It costs us almost nothing to share. And something might shake out of this, given Library's comments on first contact experience.
4.4) From the pen of. Big Book of Yomi Wan is a great resource to hit, and a useful bargaining chip. Making a book on how to defend your soul seems inoffensive, useful, and a good payment for Bob's advice and help. I would have tried for "Old Realm ABCs", but that's far more dangerous.
4.5) Cooking the good stuff. Setting up and producing alchemical concoctions we paid for seems like a logical use of free SGI points.

All these work yeah.

Would the Lesser Iron Elementals we liberated from the Wicked City be of help here? It seems like some or all of them might fit in well with Porter and Last Station.

If nothing else, they might help to provide additional security.
