Darkness Awaking
18th of January 2007 A.D.
On stage Olivia is a presence transformed, gone is the girl who speaks softly and treads softer, her hair drawn back from her face, her motions minimal and in walks 'the stepsister', vacuous and vivacious fit to overshadow poor Cinderella, vivacious as she's vicious set to music that invites the audience to smile now along. She squabbles and she slides, she kicks and twirls and throws coquettish looks over her shoulder as if to say 'look at this girl, ain't she hopeless? It's quite all right to laugh'. A dress gets torn, silk sheering, bits of costume jewelry flying in time to springy music that gets your foot tapping and though the hall's not even a quarter full, friends and family of the students here to show support the applause at the end is as loud as you'd heard it at some proper performances. The 'sisters' take a bow and take it twice. Poor Cinderella and her prince have yet a ways to go if they won't want to be upstaged in their own show.
"So, how'd you like it?" Olivia asks with a smile, her cheeks still flush with the excitement and if you're any kind of judge with the headiness of the crowd. "I think I nailed the tempo, but, but that third roll, well let's just say I almost rolled too enthusiastically right into poor Amy. Maybe a little too much martial arts training eh? Do you want to come backstage?"
"I'd love to, but the reason I came here. You know how I promised... gifts? God it's a good thing you weren't doing Doctor Faust," you laugh, a little nervously you will admit.
"Molly I commute to the other side for shooting practice. Mephistopheles
wishes he could hand out toys as fun as yours. Just checking though he's not real is he?"
"By that name no, though the core concept is well rooted in fact," by now you are outside into the brisk if not a little grey Chicago afternoon as the wind does it's level best to keep its red in people's cheeks with its pinch.
"So are we talking cybernetic augmentation? I've been reading up on SUTRA implantation, but it's very dense and technical, not the kind of thing that comes across well in in translation, other than the user accounts. Most of it's pretty obvious too and I still want to perform. There's not much point being safe to live your life if you can't... live your life." She sighs, only about half serious you judge. "I think I'd make a very bad superhero."
"I promise not to quote Uncle Ben at you if you promise not to quote Zordon," you offer, managing to keep a straight face even. "Not SUTRAs, something I just learned how to do, Awakening the
Po soul, as one might put it though a Daoist perspective. The Ancient Egyptians called it
Shut, the shadow-soul cast not in sunlight, but moonlight, that which waxes and wanes with the rhythms of nature and yet to which men are blind and deaf for to look into the heart of your own shadow is to understand every mortal soul is a little bit demon, willful and proud and terrible. This the Wan Kuei, the Ten Thousand Demons of the Jade Court have leaned well through the Turns of the Wheel, they whose Po selves have passed into Yomi and out of it know well the selfish power of the shadow. For one who has been spared their unnatural hunger the danger is less, but less is not 'none' Olivia." Are you the one talking right nor or is Usum, it's hard to tell and yet it does not matter. "To awaken the Po is to cultivate the demon within, take its fruits and make them yours. I can help with that, scare it straight, give you more control over it but you have to be in my service."
Olivia nods slowly. "Like the incubi, I read about them on the noosphere in Sanctuary. My 'demon' is probably going to be stronger than a fresh vampire's because of who I am,
what I am, right?" One can barely hear the words over the sounds of the street. Lights move in her eyes, just headlights reflected, surely. "I think this might be a supervillain origin story." She laughs a little too loudly, but now like she's having doubts, like she's on the stage again, playing the wicked stepsister.
"Depends if we're in a mirror universe," you answer after a moment. Not like it's something you haven't been thinking of for quite a while now "Even Lex Luther's the good guy somewhere."
"For what it's worth I think the Kryptonite powers suit you very well," she says with a sympathetic smile.

Olivia chooses her apartment for the the place of her transformation, no other witnesses in case it's awkward, it probably will be, or painful, it definitely will. She sits on the edge of the bed, takes a deep breath and turns towards you. "OK, I'm ready, hit me."
So you lean in and kiss her forehead, the gesture at once formally elegant and as natural as breathing, pouring Essence into the shape of her shadow soul.
What does she become?

OOC: Say hello to your new Circlemate. Hopefully the above is at least somewhat balanced, neither of these systems was designed to balance against each other really, but the Fomori are definitely the weaker of the bunch so I feel like a 1/2 trade off works. It will be possible to advance both powers and disciplines with XP in the future, but not with this bonus XP as she acquired it as a mortal.
