Voices of Earth and Sky
26st of February 2007 A.D.
As you draw yourself up dreams play like smoke across the landscape of the mind, gone in an instant if one seeks to grasp it and yet from afar an answer. It is mine and mine alone as much as any power you had bargained doe all those months past, as much as the power you had claimed. In a tower impossibly distant and as close as your own heart a name
burned with poisonous radiance, casting the long unmistakable shadow of a throne. "[Knowledge Fragmented. Meaning Unclear]. [Fact: Unbound. Unchained.] [Fact: Ambition-To-Nature-Turning. World-Soul Manifest: The Queen Is Her Queendom]." The air shimmers with more than heat as though the words bear physical weight that belabors reality: "[Theory: Essence of Theion-Who-Was, of Green-Sun-Fire Involved. Unknown, Unintended... Inheritor]"
This time there is no seeming, the earth quakes and the people around you start to splash around looking for the exit What was... you didn't mean to... Ragnhildur rises to her feet in an instant, one arm raised in a protective arc over her granddaughter.
"What's going on?" Kristin asks, her voice raising in worry too.
"[Words bear meaning, so sorcery is born]," the words have the ring of much taught lesson, one the old Chosen is repeating now as much to get her bearings as to explain to the girl.
"[Great words summon many bearers, travel/echo far]"
She isn't talking about gossip, at least not that of those who walk on two legs or four, nor yet that fly or swim. Down along the ley line like a wire pulled taunt the slumbering dragon had heard.
Between one moment and the next the air, heady with steam with with growing terror moves as though someone had let loose the winter winds up on the mountain to pay as they will and race towards the sea. What message they carry you are not sure, turning to Ragnhildur who releases a relieved breath a moment later in its wake.
"The Old one will not wake, it is good." Speaking the tongue of air seemed to have released her from the grip of the Language. It takes you a moment to realize there's a question buried in there: 'Did you mean for the dragon yo hear you, the dragon of whose position no one is certain and which should only be woken with rites and respect?'
Thankfully in this case the demands of courtesy and honesty are one and the same. "It is good that he does not wake troubled. The troubles of dragons, be that even small have a way of becoming great for mortal man."
"I do not know the name you speak, though it feels jagged in the mind even more so than..." she wages a hand over her lips to mark the odd speech you had just conjured. "The rest. Strange to find such power laying on the earth waiting to be found like cairn gold, though great must the
jottun have been to lay it there." That word means 'giant' you know, but more than that it marks the powers older than the gods that were said to have dueled with them in the youth of the world. It's all dreadfully pagan, more even than summoning military aid from a Norse God moonlighting as a private military contractor, but it's a better name for it than most.
Ragnhildur says something else obviously directed at you... and just as obviously not in English. before she frowns and Essence shifts again around her. "You have shown yourself in cunning guise to the children of the dragon, but not with trickery, you have proven that you are strong but not a foe..."
A language learning power, certainly more convenient than I do it "Be welcome on our land and in our halls as you please as we avail ourselves to some of the hospitality you showed." She gives Kristin a once-over. "Pack your bags you are going to America."
"But I... what?" It would be unkind to say she gasps like a fisk on land, though not innacurate.
"In recognition for the great opportunity you lead to us, all unexpected." From the tone you are guessing this is half and half reward and punishment. It turned out OK, but she had started talking family secrets in front of strangers at a museum.
