Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

[X] Plan Stolen Fire:

I like this one a lot. The question she's asking, fundamentally, is about whose power we are born of, and perhaps beholden to.

She said she wasn't asking about our ambition but our nature - but really, that dichotomy is the wrong framing, and therefore the most important line in answering that, at least IMO, is "Fact: Ambition-To-Nature-Turning", because it emphasises that we are self-defining.

And that is a huge deal in the cosmology of DF. So many other capital-P Powers in the setting are defined by their power: the Fae by their titles and the duties that come with them, Odin by the various masks he wears, and so on.

We are not. And that means the world.

(...Possibly literally.)

[X] Plan Stolen Fire:
-[X] Drawing herself up, Molly allowed the dream that was a world to play across her thoughts. The place that was hers alone, as much as any power she had claimed. In a tower impossibly distant and as close as her own heart a name burned with poisonous radiance, casting long shadows of a throne.
—[X] [Knowledge Fragmented. Meaning Unclear]. [Fact: Unbound. Unchained.] [Fact: Ambition-To-Nature-Turning. World-Soul Manifest: The Queen Is Her Queendom]
—[X] [Theory: Essence of Theion-Who-Was, of Green-Sun-Fire Involved. Unknown, Unintended, Inheritor]
@DragonParadox does Molly actually know and understand enough to be able to go with this plan?

The Yama Kings seems to want to be... God, which is a bit problematic since in this world as opposed to WoD God is still present and holding down the fort.

Anyway Good Night guys.

To be fair, in WoD, God, or at least Heaven was still active in the Middle Kingdom in the lifetime of some living Wan Kuei elders, and certainly within the lifespan of the Yama Kings.

Well yeah, but they only started seeking the throne of God once it was empty*, that is what the Demon Emperor is meant to be an inversion of God via one of the Yama Kings taking over.
*or at least they thought it was

Does something about this read funny?

The goal here was basically to give as straight an answer as possible based on my understanding of what Molly understands, which is informed by less context than we the readers have.

Molly knows Theion's name and that she's a Green Sun Princess, but I don't think she specifically knows for certain how those things are connected. She can make educated guesses, some of them pretty good, but there's a difference between fever dreams, cryptic word games with extradimensional horrors and firsthand testimony from an Archangels.

The goal here was to present the information in that light while offering some assurances about her current situation in case those names mean something to Dragon!Grandma.

This is (intended to be) a softer but more specific assertion than positively claiming to be of Theion's essence without knowing who the hell he was beyond a hallucination of a demon city. Not something that requires more insight than the other options.

I want to make sure the vote is clear, because I'm afraid of messing up the primordial-speak and distorting the intended message.

On rereading, yeah, there's nothing that we don't know there. World-soul thing is also already known to us. So, yeah, good plan. I like it.

This has got to be a fun day for granny dragonblood.

1) Odin shows up and wants to your help buying superweapons from an estranged relative.

2) A Mysterious Stranger informs you that you're being targeted by blampire!Mummies. Again.

3) Turns out that the Mysterious Stranger is some sort of celestial exalt turned demon planet ignorant of her own nature who found you on eldritch 23andMe.

4) Worse than being a demon planet, she's actually as young as she looks. Meaning a teenage Solaroid is probably going to have a difference of opinion with the Allfather on her front lawn.

Ragnhildur: "Hey God? Mind telling what I did to deserve staring in a first age themed telenovela?"

Poor bastard is going to need the extra strength alcohol just to get to sleep tonight. :V

OK, lets see how well declaring yourselves to the heirs of the Ten Thousand Dragons goes.

Arc 15 Post 19: Voices of Earth and Sky
Voices of Earth and Sky

26st of February 2007 A.D.

As you draw yourself up dreams play like smoke across the landscape of the mind, gone in an instant if one seeks to grasp it and yet from afar an answer. It is mine and mine alone as much as any power you had bargained doe all those months past, as much as the power you had claimed. In a tower impossibly distant and as close as your own heart a name burned with poisonous radiance, casting the long unmistakable shadow of a throne. "[Knowledge Fragmented. Meaning Unclear]. [Fact: Unbound. Unchained.] [Fact: Ambition-To-Nature-Turning. World-Soul Manifest: The Queen Is Her Queendom]." The air shimmers with more than heat as though the words bear physical weight that belabors reality: "[Theory: Essence of Theion-Who-Was, of Green-Sun-Fire Involved. Unknown, Unintended... Inheritor]"

This time there is no seeming, the earth quakes and the people around you start to splash around looking for the exit What was... you didn't mean to... Ragnhildur rises to her feet in an instant, one arm raised in a protective arc over her granddaughter.

"What's going on?" Kristin asks, her voice raising in worry too.

"[Words bear meaning, so sorcery is born]," the words have the ring of much taught lesson, one the old Chosen is repeating now as much to get her bearings as to explain to the girl. "[Great words summon many bearers, travel/echo far]"

She isn't talking about gossip, at least not that of those who walk on two legs or four, nor yet that fly or swim. Down along the ley line like a wire pulled taunt the slumbering dragon had heard.

Between one moment and the next the air, heady with steam with with growing terror moves as though someone had let loose the winter winds up on the mountain to pay as they will and race towards the sea. What message they carry you are not sure, turning to Ragnhildur who releases a relieved breath a moment later in its wake.

"The Old one will not wake, it is good." Speaking the tongue of air seemed to have released her from the grip of the Language. It takes you a moment to realize there's a question buried in there: 'Did you mean for the dragon yo hear you, the dragon of whose position no one is certain and which should only be woken with rites and respect?'

Thankfully in this case the demands of courtesy and honesty are one and the same. "It is good that he does not wake troubled. The troubles of dragons, be that even small have a way of becoming great for mortal man."

"I do not know the name you speak, though it feels jagged in the mind even more so than..." she wages a hand over her lips to mark the odd speech you had just conjured. "The rest. Strange to find such power laying on the earth waiting to be found like cairn gold, though great must the jottun have been to lay it there." That word means 'giant' you know, but more than that it marks the powers older than the gods that were said to have dueled with them in the youth of the world. It's all dreadfully pagan, more even than summoning military aid from a Norse God moonlighting as a private military contractor, but it's a better name for it than most.

Ragnhildur says something else obviously directed at you... and just as obviously not in English. before she frowns and Essence shifts again around her. "You have shown yourself in cunning guise to the children of the dragon, but not with trickery, you have proven that you are strong but not a foe..." A language learning power, certainly more convenient than I do it "Be welcome on our land and in our halls as you please as we avail ourselves to some of the hospitality you showed." She gives Kristin a once-over. "Pack your bags you are going to America."

"But I... what?" It would be unkind to say she gasps like a fisk on land, though not innacurate.

"In recognition for the great opportunity you lead to us, all unexpected." From the tone you are guessing this is half and half reward and punishment. It turned out OK, but she had started talking family secrets in front of strangers at a museum.

OOC: The reason grandma needed to roll Language Learning Ritual again is that SSC's higher tier linguistic charm knocked her last casting out. Anyway you guys got the best outcome and another faction interested in doing diplomacy with you.
