Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

[X] Tell the truth (Charisma+Empathy)

So does this mean Rose might become a practitioneer, also avoid warlockism as Molly tells her the laws of magic. Hope fullt whatever the fallout, Molly can get the fledgeling wizard in contact with Harry maybe. Or another wizard less prone to be poked by Mab.

"Mayhap they could," Usum opines as you pass the front desk. "Houses of healing, places of congregation for the sick, the desperate and the dying would make excellent hunting grounds for those spirits that feast on misery. What better place to spy a victim from than eyes that have already been painted in place? That is not even accounting for the unquiet dead who are most often bound to the place of their passing. The living are many in this city the dead are more..."
If I believed IRL paranormal stuff, this would be my go to explanation. They really do seem like they're following you. :o
3) Devil-Tyrant Avatar Shintai
+1 Strength, + 4 Dex, +1 Stamina
7x Demonic Aspects
  • 2x Demon Armor: +4 Soak
  • 2x Hardened Devil Body: +6 (-0) HLs
  • 1x Extra Limbs: Telekinesis. Alternatively, a Stand a la Nicodemus' mobile shadow.
  • 1x Swift Stride: x2 Movement Speed
  • 1x Energy Projection: Sword/Eye beams
I'm not sure about the attribute mechanics of the game (like all the others aspects, TBH), but I do prefer this stat spread compared to some of the others I've seen posted with potential Shintai builds. Molly is already quite strong, plus her sword and Charms will let her deal damage in ways pure Strength alone cannot account for, but you can never have enough Dexterity.

If the metaphysical fire catches she becomes a minor talent yeah. Trauma does not generally make wizards or even sorcerers, but being a regular mortal with a frayed mind caught at the conceptual edge of Exaltation can push you that inch over the line into conscious use of magic.

Can't we only take Demon Armor one time?
Though energy projection is...very short ranged. And uses Athletics to aim. So I don't think its very good.
Otherwise I like it.
1)To the best of my knowledge, you can repurchase an Aspect for enhanced effects.
Just like you can repurchase some charms. Theoretically, we could spent all 7x Aspects on Demon Armor for a total of +14 Soak when in First Shintai. Unless the QM rules otherwise.

It might be worth swapping the Devil Body out for more Demon Armor.
Depends on if Shintai continues to benefit from the armor you were wearing pre-transformation.

2)With Devil-Tyrant Shintai's buffs active, assuming we choose the +4 Dex Attribute package(and really, why wouldnt we? Dex is the god stat in combat)? We're rocking Dexterity 8 minimum.
So Dex 8 + Athletics 0 = 8 dice.

An 8 dice pool for firing a swordbeam/eyebeams is better than the (Dexterity 2 + Firearms 2 = 4) dice pool the average professional soldier has in WoD under these rules. The sniper who was shooting at Gorfel had a sniper scope and got bonuses from aiming, and his total dice pool was 12.

Commentary:
-Yeah, we need to buy 1-2 dots of Appearance. Bad.
Cant be creeping out every stranger we meet and have to spend Essence to compensate.
Social charms wont go amiss either.

-Usum has a point here.

Hospitals do make good haunting grounds for spirits that are homicidal, and sometimes just confused and reliving tragedy. Its a plot point that Michael and Harry had to stop the crazy ghost Agatha Hagglethorn from murdering every baby on an ICU ward in Grave Peril. Same book he saved pregnant Charity.

And Harry doesnt usually frequent hospitals for exorcisms because of fear that his antitech field might break critical equipment.

-We really do need better sensory skills. Like sensory charms for seeing magic stuff.
At the very least our next crafting project should be a set of wraparound glasses for nightvision.

-Divination.....that's convenient OOC.
We didnt have a teacher for that Path, but if we can acquire the rudiments from a friend or on behalf of one , we have a IC plot hook generator.

- Going to note that Rosie's canon name is Rosanna Marcella. Not Wilson. Proven Guilty chapter 16.
"The dog's with me," I said.
"The wizard's with me," Murphy said.
"Makes him a police dog, all right," Rawlins agreed. He jerked his head down the hall. "Miss Marcella is down that way. They got Pell and Miss Becton in ICU. The boy they brought in didn't make it."

<SNIP>

I shied away from staring at her lest I make eye contact for too long- but that smile, at least, was something I wouldn't mind remembering. Rosie was another story.

The physical Rosie was a small, slight, pale young woman with thin, frail features. The Rosie my Sight revealed to me was entirely different. Pale skin became a pallid, dirty, leathery coating. Large dark eyes looked even bigger, and flicked around with darting, avian jerks. They were furtive eyes, giving her the dangerous aspect of a stray dog or maybe some kind of rat-the eyes of a craven, desperate survivor.

Winding veins of some kind of green-black energy pulsed beneath her skin, particularly around the inside bend of her left arm. The writhing strings of energy ended at the surface of her skin, in dozens of tiny, mindlessly opening and closing little mouths-the needle tracks I'd seen the night before. Her right hand kept darting back and forth over the other arm as if trying to scratch a persistent itch. But her fingers couldn't touch. There was a kind of sheath of sparkling motes around her hands, almost like mittens, and she couldn't actually touch those mindlessly hungry mouths. Worse, there were what looked almost like burn marks on her temples- small, black, neat holes, as if someone had bored a hot needle through the skin and skull beneath. There was a kind of phantom blood around the injuries, but her eyes were wide and vague, as if she didn't even notice them. What the hell? I had seen the victims of spiritual attacks before, and they'd never been pretty. Usually they looked like the victim of a shark attack, or someone who had been mauled by a bear. I hadn't ever seen someone with damage like Rosie's. It looked almost like some kind of demented surgeon had gone after her with a laser scalpel. That pushed the weirdometer a couple of clicks beyond the previous record.

My head started pounding and I pushed the Sight away. I leaned my hip against the wall for a second and rubbed at my temples until the throbbing subsided and I was sure that my normal vision had returned.
"Rosie," I said, cutting into the middle of one of Murphy's questions. "When was your last fix?"

Murphy glanced over her shoulder at me, frowning. Behind her, the girl gave me a guilty look, her eyes shifting to one side. "What do you mean?" Rosie asked.
"I figure it's heroin," I said. I kept my voice pitched to the barest level needed to be audible. "I saw the tracks on you last night."

"I'm diab-" she began.
"Oh please," I said, and let the annoyance show in my voice. "You think I'm that stupid?"
"Harry," Murphy began. There was a warning note in her voice, but my head hurt too much to let it stop me.

"Miss Marcella, I'm trying to help you. Just answer the question."

She was silent for a long moment. Then she said, "Two weeks."
Murphy arched a brow, and her gaze went back to the girl.
"I quit," she said. "Really. I mean, once I heard that I was pregnant... I can't do that anymore."

"Really?" I asked.
She looked up and her eyes were direct, though nothing like confident. "Yes. I'm done with it. I don't even miss it. The baby's more important than that."
So if she and her mother have different last names, that implies that Mrs Wilson has been divorced(or widowed) and remarried.
Which might point at a potential source of friction in her home between her and her teenage daughter.
Teen addicts dont usually come from happy homes.

-Molly's thoughts there about Liz implies that she has met the family, and while she gets along with the aunt Liz, she cant stand Rosie's mother. Thats gonna be a fun dynamic if Molly stays involved in her life.
And the aunt footing the medical bills says interesting things about family dynamics.

Rosie's last name sounds hispanic, which usually means Catholic heritage in the US; getting her someone in the know to talk to thats socially acceptable to her family should be doable as soon as we talk to Father Forthill.

-I generally subscribe to the theory that ignorance kills. Hoping the skill fades away doesnt necessarily mean it will; it might just mean that she doesnt have anyone to talk to if she has prophetic dreams or Sees Dead People.
And I dont think Molly is an advocate of the ignorance school of thought anyway. Not when it almost got her killed.

Also, its not a secret to supernaturals that she used magic on Rosanna; the Gatekeeper knew despite never having met her, and whoever sent the fetches used it as a beacon for sending them to Chicago.
Not telling Rosanna eventually just guarantees someone else will use it against Molly at the worst possible moment.

I think gestures make it easier like all magic.
Noted.
Would certainly count as an extra reason why non-wizard supernaturals like the Fae keep a hand free in combat.

Rosie could potentially develop a useful talent we could benefit from, but she could also crumble under the weight of the truth and whatever unpleasant visions her new power are likely to show her. The girl is fragile and there are some really terrible things she might inadvertently glimpse. Hell, even the regular bad stuff in the supernatural world is pretty bad, never mind the really awful, mind-breaking shit.

[X] Lie (Manipulation+Empathy)
-[X] You wince, guilt, shame, and horrific memories all warring with one another in your mind. Eventually, guilt proves victorious. Rosie is already fragile, both emotionally and physically, and you don't want to be responsible for furthering her suffering, not after what you've already inflicted upon her in your misguided attempts to help. "Things haven't been great, but I'm all right. I definitely haven't gotten up close and personal with any trees lately."

Minor Talents are a thing in the Dresdenverse, magicals who are not as strong as a White Council wizard.
Some are people who can only do one trick, like summoning or divination or kinetomancy or shapeshifting or talking to ghosts, but can do it very well; others can do a lot of stuff, but only at very low power, and often with the help of rituals.

The plot of the next book involves a White Court vampire deliberately serial killing a bunch of minor talents down as a proof of concept that he could cull magic from the human gene pool.

She's been touched by magic. That leaves marks for supernaturals with the right senses.
And being Molly's close friend, that makes her doubly interesting as a possible lever on her.
I dont think Molly would lie to her on this; she's already in it.

Not telling her anything wont make her any more safe if the Denarians come to town.
Or a White Court vamp decides to poke at the new Power in town.
Or a Red Court hit team try to take a cheap shot in revenge for the last hit team we wiped out.

Or the Illnois Nazis come to play.

The reason I thought so is that Hardened Devil Body Aspect explicitly mentions you can repurchase it.

If this was the base assumption, why the extra mention?

Also with regards to what to purchase once the turn comes up @DragonParadox a request, if we do end up voting for E2, which in all probability we are, can the shintai vote come after that?

My reasoning is that it will divide the Charm votes and it would be easier if we just voted charms first then go for the Shintai next as it is important enough to warrant its own vote.

Now as to what to vote for when the spending turn comes up, here is my Idea.

1. E2 - 8xp.
This unlocks Shintai, which gives us a secondary hlvl bar. So our survivability is assured here as if we take too much damage we can just transform and not have to deal with the penalty till after combat or the form drops. This also gives a substancial boost in power, allowing us to spend 2 Ess per turn, extends our excellency by 1 turn AND boosts our Essence max and Essence recovery.

2. Charred Sinner Renewal - 4xp
Essence as though she were resting in a Dragon Nest - Meaning we regenerate 1 Essence every 15 mins.
Full healing of all Bashing Damage.
Heals one level of lethal damage every 15 mins.

What this means is that in one hour, we heal 4 Lethal wounds AND regain 4 Essence. This is on top of the (3 + Essence) we recover every day at sunrise. So with this charm, with just one hour of bathing, we regen 5 + 4 Essence. Best of all? We do not have to spend Essence for it.

This charm does NOT deal with Agg damage but that is what Ego-Infused Pattern Primacy is for as that Charm gives us Shaping defene + Agg healing, which we absolutely need to get anyway.

1)Green fire? Molten brass?
That looks like its firmly in the realm of Incarnate Apotheosis Shintai, not Devil-Tyrant.
Empty shell is Demon Emperor Shintai, at least as described.
I'm aware, the point of asking was in part to clarify if size and humanoid shape were bigger factors than biology or not. My impression was that the other options all implicitly required being done form of giant.

As to the monstrosity bit; you're not wrong, but it's worth noting that they're mostly biological things. If we have to be human scale traits that clearly don't come from anything alive would help with brand differentiation.

@Yzarc don't worry, any Shintai vote has to come after you guys vote for E2, since I have to know you will be taking E2 in order to even get a Shintai. Trying to plan vote for it would be confusing IMO.

So seeing as everyone wants devil tyrant shintai can we at least make it something eldritch or non human, I liked the sound of molten brass, what about molten brass that is impossible to identify as anything other than molten brass despite glowing an unholy radioactive green.

[X]Tell the truth (Charisma+Empathy)
-[X] Stunt: A lifetime of attempting to finesse your mother has prepared you for this moment. "I did get in some trouble the night Splattercon got cancelled...But I had people come get me out." A memory of the pumpkinhead exploding in green balefire fills you with momentary satisfaction. "And well..."you motion wordlessly at your obviously healthy self. "You're not....still having nightmares, are you?

Charisma 3 + Empathy 3 = 6 dice. Manipulation 3 + Subterfuge 3 = 6 dice.
Mechanically, both actions have the same dice pool.

Voting to let her know because ignorance does not confer protection, especially when she's Molly's friend, and if she keeps having prophetic dreams she is going to need both an ear to listen and a primer on the supernatural in the Dresdenverse.
The girl was at Splattercon; she saw and felt the fetches. She isnt going to shatter on learning that it was a real thing.

The editing is not free from errors in even the sourcebooks that are paid for and gone over by an entire team of writers and editors, let alone a primarily one-man fan project done in his free time.
I wouldnt expect perfection here.

If Holden meant to forbid the other aspects being selected multiple times, he would say so instead of having us parse textev.

Eh.
Not sure about the mostly biological part. Though if I didnt know better I would think that the Denarians are deliberately cribbing the style of Infernal Exalted. That whole four eyes thing they do is fairly distinctive.

Still, we have options.
Eye color, hair color and texture, skin color and texture, a giant back tattoo, cyberpunk/magicpunk styling.....we could even go full Tamaranean. Or DC Comics Martian.

Id just prefer not to stray from recognizably human.
For mechanical reasons of fitting in environments sized for people. Because it doesnt fit the in-universe aesthetic of the Dresdenverse.Because PR is very much a thing to keep in mind if you dont want to scare potential allies.

And because I dont want to deal with teenage body dysmorphia and the family drama around monster transformations when Molly has three siblings below the age of ten, and a mother who was almost eaten by a dragon.

So seeing as everyone wants devil tyrant shintai can we at least make it something eldritch or non human, I liked the sound of molten brass, what about molten brass that is impossible to identify as anything other than molten brass despite glowing an unholy radioactive green.
There are multiple reasons IC and OOC why we really dont want to do that.
Even the Dresdenverse angels dont show up looking like chariot wheels full of eyes any longer.
