I don't think a fae is a Creature of Darkness, so probably not?
I don't think a fae is a Creature of Darkness, so probably not?
Edit: mab is literally called the queen of air and darkness. jim butcher has described the courts as influenced by human free will with summer being influenced by the arts, creating beauty, creating culture, that feeds into summer. the stuff that is conflict, (which jim says there is far far more of in the world than the stuff that feeds summer)the stuff that is trying to survive that feeds into winters power. He then goes on to say the courts are there for people and that their more attached to people than the natural world.I don't think a fae is a Creature of Darkness, so probably not?
Yes I was referring to this. And the whole "being completely forgotten renders them powerless" thingunless you mean in a less literal sense in which case yes information wars are a thing and many even spread info so things don't stop existing somehow.
yeah thats fair though its probably somewhat more nuanced forgotten things definitely exist or maybe their just mostly forgotten. also probably a process of centuries rather than just suddenly all gone. Man it'd be funny to be a sidereal here as we'd play stupid information wars against old ones and species we really don't like.Yes I was referring to this. And the whole "being completely forgotten renders them powerless" thing
I think that was more of a special rule for outsiders than a normal practice.Yes I was referring to this. And the whole "being completely forgotten renders them powerless" thing
its not its noted things can be forgotten other than outsiders.I think that was more of a special rule for outsiders than a normal practice.
If I recall things correctly, we first get introduced to the whole information suppression thing in a short story from Thomas's perspective. The plot of which involved Thomas helping Harry with a case while also trying to con him out of a book of dark rituals some evil sorcerer had because he knew that he'd turn it over to the council, and that the council's standard response was to publish those sorts of books as widely as possible.
The reason being that you can basically DDOS Cthulhu if enough people try to call on it, so rituals that call on a particular entity to operate can be rendered toothless by mass distribution.
That being a response so standard that the faction of the white court fighting the outsiders was worried the white council would do it before they even realized what they had implies it's so universally effective it's practically reflexive.
If that's the case, then it follows that entities that benefit from secrecy overwhelmingly outnumber those that benefit from notoriety to the point that the latter might as well not exist.
Yeah, but the white council isn't dumb. Either the requirements for being truly forgotten are so specific that getting the proverbial genie back in the bottle is basically impossible once it's gotten to the point that someone's wrote a book on it, or the category of beings that can be locked out that way is so narrow that they don't matter 99% of the time.its not its noted things can be forgotten other than outsiders.
oh yeah its not easy its just possible usually its done deliberately over the course of like a century and often it fails the venatori at one point tried to get rid of the fae obviously didn't work out. presumably before brother grimm was a thing. Also would be a hilariously bad idea given what guards the gates we can assume most weren't aware of that very well kept secret well at least those who weren't being fucked with by nemesis this was centuries ago though. lot of hints mab helped in the creation of books about the fae and the grimm stuff. Some things have seemed to at least of lost power of some kind or another due to belief thats a whole different issue though. I hope we can help the archive track nemesis infected all if possible and hunt down those cults. though nemesis tracking being something our crown can't do makes plenty of sense to me since their literally outsiders of reality.Yeah, but the white council isn't dumb. Either the requirements for being truly forgotten are so specific that getting the proverbial genie back in the bottle is basically impossible once it's gotten to the point that someone's wrote a book on it, or the category of beings that can be locked out that way is so narrow that they don't matter 99% of the time.
Otherwise deliberately publishing obscure lore used to invoke shady entities would be a horrible idea, and they'd be idiots to adopt it as a reflex.
in fairness while its part of them its only a portion of their soul if that like as far as I know the hunger could literally be some kind of minor demon bonded to their soul.
also could the charm allows a fae to lie?
I know for a fact some charms would allow it not that we'd likely ever want to open that rabbit hole or maybe even get said powers period. Good to know though I wouldn't want fae lying its a huge strength in many ways really. No, that is not incidental harm to the fey as a consequence of their power, it is intrinsic to what makes them fey. To get a fey to lie you would need some Nemesis grade stuff.
@DragonParadox just how human does a devil tyrant Shintai have to be?
I ask since Shintai stuff is likely to come up with the exp vote, and it seems relevant to creating compromise options between full monster and dollar store Denarian.
Can we do things like have Molly transform into green fire that acts like a solid, or molten brass that somehow holds her shape?
How about something really exotic like an empty shell of brass shaped like Molly that's bigger on the inside for the purposes of holding horrific imagery of her themes?
Not anything mechanically useful over baseline Devil tyrants, just something to find a middle ground between the people who want to fit inside buildings and those of us who want an antediluvian monstrosity. Or at least to avoid looking like we take orders from Nicodemus.
Eh it'd have to be very different from dresden files since it's pretty much been confirmed they've done things. And wod is only tangentially related in this quest I think with some parts. Though I guess you could always argue it's Satan and lucifer as separate things it also adds a whole new fucked up cosmology so as nice as they are I'd rather them not exist.I was thinking about the Fallen and I for one really hope that if the Devil ever appears in the story, we don't use the Dresden-Devil, but the WoD-Lucifer.
I just love the guy, he is usually portrayed as a well-intentioned screw-up, who for all his wisdom and power makes things worse whenever he acts, from the original Rebellion to his freeing of the Earthbound from Hell. Always good intentions, always terrible consequences, always enough arrogance left to try something else later.
Edit: He also more-or-less founded the Abrahamic religions and later took part in the renaissance and enlightenment.
Something something mantles also apparently being older than the universe in canon so I doubt anyone actually has their true name well probably.I'd love to point out that nowhere in the bible is Satan actually called lucifer but this is set in DF so the mainstream will have hit him hard, not that he probably cares he doesn't really have to do any work nowadays people can just be shit heads over the internet which is always easier than face to face.
Just pointing it out ahead of time.I realized that, but it seemed like an IC thing for Molly to do.
If y'all voted for my plan without taking that into account, I'm willing to change it for a different option. Maybe we can get Michael to take us to McAnally's or something else?
Counterpoint:Keep in mind this is not a setting to her, this is her life. In the course of this life her mother extracted from her a promise she did not want to give and punished her for, again as far as Molly is concerned, trying to help people in need. If you guys want to follow it to the letter and the spirit that is fine, but she is not going to do that because abstract metaphysics say Promises are Important. The only person near her that would even think of making the argument is Usum... and he is both a demon and bound to serve the will of the Chosen.
1)Green fire? Molten brass?@DragonParadox just how human does a devil tyrant Shintai have to be?

Can't we only take Demon Armor one time?Just pointing it out ahead of time.
Because a majority of people chose to stay home and live under Chafity's rules instead of then openly disagreeing and walking out, and I'd like to make sure noone complains if and when it comes to pass that sneaking out blows up in our face.
Counterpoint:
She just suffered through a series of significant life-altering events, including a personal message from an Archangel. And her father just spent a significant amount of time impressing on her the importance of being known to keep your agreements in the supernatural world of which she is now a part.
Enough IC reason for it to go either way IMO.
QUESTION
Does Countermagic require a free hand? To my recollection Dresdenverse magic usually came with somatic gestures.
1)Green fire? Molten brass?
That looks like its firmly in the realm of Incarnate Apotheosis Shintai, not Devil-Tyrant.
Empty shell is Demon Emperor Shintai, at least as described.
2)Note that most Denarians have 2 or more shintai modes, at least one of which is Devil-Tyrant adjacent, but the rest spam the gamut of looks. They just tend towards monstrosity.
For example, Polonius Lartessa has a humanoid mantid form, but also has a swarm form of thousands of small mantids.
Deirdre Archleone has metallic scales, panthers claws, reverse-jointed legs, and a ten to fifteen foot long expanse of prehensile hair, but her hair can also shift itself into a functioning set of fins and tails.
3) Devil-Tyrant Avatar Shintai
+1 Strength, + 4 Dex, +1 Stamina
7x Demonic Aspects
- 2x Demon Armor: +4 Soak
- 2x Hardened Devil Body: +6 (-0) HLs
- 1x Extra Limbs: Telekinesis. Alternatively, a Stand a la Nicodemus' mobile shadow.
- 1x Swift Stride: x2 Movement Speed
- 1x Energy Projection: Sword/Eye beams
Since we're using our next Rage Recast to acquire Flight, no need for it in the shintai build.
IMO, anyway.
