Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

4 int + 0 tech + 2 cold +4 fortune+ 2 stunt = 12 dice.

-1 DC for Kingdom
-1 DC for wet

But not key so 1s minus.

-[X] Get the most powerful fortune-weaver in the city (Fortune ●●●●) in here, you will get those designs done today +4 Dice. Impact of a botch would linger and require dispelling
--[X] Use the Crown with Occult excellency boost to improve the safety / reliability of the magic cast, similar to how you improved safety of Harry's Soulgaze
-[X] Use all boosts you have access to: BSM, WHWH, assume shintai form
-[X] Use the equipment that has been tampered with to find already existing methods of protection, technological and otherwise, to use as a basis for the solution
-[X] Stunt: basalt and brass hands brush upon the keys of a digital keyboard, a light stylus is held aloft in an invisible telekinetic grip, and a voice meant to lead armies and proclaim divine decrees dictates your thoughts and makes requests of your assistants, both noospheric and embodied. For someone without a context, the scene before them would look like a council of war, and in a sense it is. But, for the first time since you ever gained it, this form of yours is assumed not to inflict violence. It feels... right, you sense, the connection to your subjects, to the world around you lending the insight required to guard against potential threats.
[X] Sure, Ancient Luc will use Outcome Altering Subrutines (Fortune ●●): +2 Dice to INT+Technology roll; a botch manifest as a curse of like severity lasting several weeks

Basalt and brass hands brush upon the keys of a digital keyboard, a light stylus is held aloft in an invisible telekinetic grip, and a voice meant to lead armies and proclaim divine decrees dictates your thoughts and makes requests of your assistants, both noospheric and embodied. For someone without a context, the scene before them would look like a council of war, and in a sense it is. But, for the first time since you ever gained it, this form of yours is assumed not to inflict violence. "Data Flows are in Alignment," comes the soft almost bell-like voice of One Who Ascends the Ladder of Perfection, most skilled fate weaver in the City of Law, machine spirit of its major defense grid. A rare thing for the guardian to bother with any singular act of forging, but much like Ancient Luc, if with less pathos, it has taken umbrage at the notions that the weapons it counts on in defense of the city could be sabotaged by any of a handful of strange magicians from the Beyond

Probabilities collapse inwards like a deck of cards being shuffled just so.

A river a data flows though arcane circuitry designed to resonate in geomantic harmonies as infra-sounds start vibrating though the chill air, though seat of stone and into your very bones. It is nothing like calling on the knowledge within, alien and uncomfortable, but after a few moments you settle in and your hands begin to fly

In that moment you realize that you had been looking at this all wrong. There is no need to stop the saboteur cold, just make it impossible for him to copy his work over, as soon as the code is changed in a single weapon or other piece of technology the resonance would pass though all other devices in range alerting them that they should scramble their network protocols. A computer, a machine spirit of a kind that might have to legitimately work on the devices, say to repair them, would easily be able to decrypt the ad-hoc coding, but the wizard with only one human brain's worth of computing power would be utterly stumped

"A skillful enough oracle would be able to compensate," Ancient Luc had noted quite later in the process and he was correct... if only the seed of the scrambling was not the original sabotage itself.

How did that old saw go: 'Physician heal thyself', well you happen to know from long experience that 'Seer see thyself' is harder.

"There," you sigh satisfied with your work. "Good job everyone, take the next nine shifts off.'

"With respect Divine Majesty I would be in dereliction of my duties not to scan the approaches to the city for threats," the machine replies, polite but firm.

"Pardon, imperfect use of grammar, you may take the next nine shifts off if you so desire."

With the new software patch Harry finds trying to replicate his earlier success not just impossible, but also unspeakably frustrating. You learn a few new curse words as well as the fact that the complementary arms shipment will be good to go in about two weeks once every piece of equipment the White Council or the Ventori would be interested in is patched in bulk. Even the testing is done though Harry remains apprehensive about how his nominal superior will take the ups and downs of the last few days. Would be be overly cautious? Will he be annoyed at Harry for having held back the flaw until it was fixed?

It turns out the answer is none of those things, Donald Morgan looks Harry up and down, looks you up and down still armored in brass and obsidian before turning to look over a set of grenades. Then and only then, grenade in hand, he says: "Good job Dresden, you were quick on your feet."

With that and a few more diplomatic pleasantries you bid farewell to the Warden team, just in time for Christmas shopping. Your budget is... a bit wider than last time.

OOC: This is brainstorming for the actual purchasing vote next update so don't worry if you cannot think of one for everyone. I have some thoughts of my own that will be in that list, but I'd like to see what you guys have in mind first.

I still very much enjoy the fact that we probably have both Mab and Lara Raith on our shopping list. And our shopping for Bob will have to be done largely offscreen. At least we are old enough to go into that sort of store or website.

Top of the line computer for Leech maybe? I am not sure about what hobbies the other peps in the family got and giving weapons and gear out feels like it is missing the point.

Either books or a gaming system for Lydia. iirc there was mentions when we first met her that Daniel was introducing her to gaming in general.

On the Christmas stuff here's my old list of suggestions, quoted so I don't need to rewrite it:
Lydia: A pair of stiletto heels that have better stability and protection than high grade boots. I haven't forgotten her giving us shit about being a magical girl, the natural retaliation is to make her best footwear for a fight into Hollywood grade combat heels. :V

Izzy & Alec: Groucho Marx glasses that disguise the wearer's identity, but always in some way the user would find embarrassing.

Daniel: An unfolding shield like Molly's enchanted to always be at hand when he need it (surprisingly this is a one dot effect).

Matthew: Glasses that make it easier to read Japanese, but flash menacingly when he pushes them up. Because weeb.

Leech: Improbably Useful multi-tool (difficulty reducer for the physical crafting part of her robotics thing. Enchantment only functions if she whistles while she works.

Amanda, Hope, & Harry: FCF themed blaster toys that shoot sparkly looking (but entirely safe) beams.

Micheal: Grilling shoes that act as better than high grade boots. So he can take his dad energy with him when fighting Denarians.

Charity: An incredibly mundane looking hammer that is always in reach when she needs it.

I'd amend it by replacing Amanda, Hope, and little Harry's with commercial toys from FCF, Charity's hammer to a concealed ray gun, changing Micheal's to a set of high grade but mundane carpentry tools, and dropping the enchantment on Daniel's shield.

Add a ray gun for Murphy, because keeping your police contact friendly is always smart, and make Dresden something a bit experimental.

I've talked about it before, but technically a 1 dot splendor can have 2 properties directed toward making it absurdly good at its task, and wizards use foci that are themselves mundane to help with magic.

So a blasting rod of -1dc , double range, to casting sounds like a viable project. Make it usable by non-exalts by bumping it to 2 dots in price and we're golden. The need to attune it is a benefit here because it stops someone from immediately turning it against him on capture.

In an application like this it basically saves Dresden some trouble with his normal casting, but once we've got a proof of concept more specialized ritual tools could become downright scary.

A senior council member with that on hand could pull stuff they'd legitimately considered impossible to attempt previously.

Even if we use nothing else from this set I do think we should make Lydia those gag heels. It's too good a response to her teasing to not do.
@DragonParadox what are Charity's hobbies that we know of? I have ideas for nearly everyone but her. For her I only can think of a war hammer.
Ray guns are a girl's everyone's best friend.

That or a cool motorcycle, since she apparently used to play with those. Since we're an exalt with craft: mechanics coming out of our ears we can probably put a ray gun in the headlights or something if we need to.

[X] Plan Giving our Best

It's the thought that counts!

Being stuck in meetings all afternoon sucks when trying to keep up with questing.

She has 7 kids. I think we can all guess what she does to relax.

Sleep. I think she takes a solid afternoon nap to sleep the stress away. We should make her a masterwork bed.
We set her up on malcoffee. She now actually has free time at night. Probably for the first time in years. I am tempted to get her a free spa visit for a spa that caters to supernaturals / works at night, and probably a paid vacation (costs AP to hold down the fort, but might be doable), but just giving her something to relax at night when most children are asleep is already a good idea.
  1. Cooking, baking in particular
  2. HEMA broadly, she prefers a hammer
  3. Embroidery
  4. Blacksmithing and more modern armor making
I am so tempted to try and get Charity to make a leap to cosplay. She'd make a terrific sister of battle. Like, that's basically three of her hobbies in one, if you squint.
We should make her a hammer that is always the right hammer for the task she has at hand, regardless of if that is a carpentry hammer, blacksmith's hammer, or warhammer.
Oh, I like that

I don't like my Daniel's idea all that much - I am basing it off the fact that he kept the rulebooks we brought when talking with him about power. @DragonParadox is he into tabletop games? Maybe get him (or Leech, for that matter) a simple 3D printer (from the courts)? That's a creative tool that they might enjoy, and if Daniel or anyone else plays tabletop games, that's a huge experience enhancer. Hell, maybe get one for Harry? Something simple, nothing fancy.

I am drawing a blank on Isabela and Thomas. I am also holding back from pranking Odin with decorations for Santa's sleigh.

All suggestions welcome. Let's nail this.

EDIT1: Changed Daniel from "A set of tabletop games for Daniel that can be played with as few as two people, so he can play with Lydia." to martial arts fiction from the Courts.

EDIT2: Changed Lydia from "A videogame system and a collection of games for Lydia, with cooperative games to play together with Daniel" to morphing shoes.

EDIT3: Added a spa day for isabela.

EDIT4: Added wine for Mab and Maeve, and a set of decorations for Santa's sleigh for Odin.

EDIT5: Changed Harry's present from a set of high-tech court-style home appliances to a magic focus that mitigates techbane and is more suited for delicate work.

Changed Daniel's present to a car.

Added sending Mab's and Maeve's presents via a courier.

Daniel is into a lot of media that is adjacent to TTRPGs, like comic books and speculative fiction in general and he is into martial arts so he would like to roleplay some kind of warrior but he has never gotten into playing because he 'doesn't think he is good at acting'. In that context he probably kept the books because he likes to read them.

So... buy him the entire Black Library collection? They should keep him occupied for the next... a lot of years.

I actually wonder how many of our friends would want implants if given the option. I suspect more than 1.

If we're considering mattress shopping, something with foam latex is good from a mattress wonk perspective if you can get it. Like sleeping on firm jello in a good way.

Edit: Also durable

For Lydia I think Heels of Action Heroine would be a funnier gift than video games. A 1-2 dot prodigy pair of heels that act like a pair of high quality boots (possibly with some sort of weapons bonus if she's using kickboxing while brawling?) so that her mechanically optimal combat footwear is a pair of stilettos.

In reply to her teasing Molly about being a magical girl.

I also think Harry, as a magic nerd who blows things up with his mind, would find an enchanted foci for blowing things up harder more interesting and useful as a gift.

Isabella is a tricky one, since we don't really know what she does for fun. If going for something custom I'd be tempted to try making a despair accumulator, so she can carry a sippy cup and eat proper meals instead of doing the equivalent of licking peanut butter off of spoons. Absent that? Ray gun. Everyone likes ray guns and she's already basically always armed anyway.

For Thomas I'm thinking a ring of "I'm not touching you" that works one of two different ways.

1) full body force field that acts as a technical contact blocker for hand holding activities but is too fragile for combat bonus purposes.

2) we steal something from the story we heard about Merlin and Mab by giving him a 2-3 dot prodigy (brought to 2 dot price by adding a flaw like requiring blood points to activate) which brings up to 2 people touching it on activation into a shared lucid dream.

Only thing I can think of that he really wants beyond the generic is to be with Justine again, and this would sort of do that.

An assignment to rigorous experiment to find the most fun activity to do.

In Thomas's case finding the best date activity. Which we then invite Harry on.
It would be fun for (some) of us, hopeful for Molly and uncomfortable for Harry. Remember that Harry has made it explicitly clear that he does not want to have any romantic relationship with Moly, and only teenage stubbornness prevents her from developing interest in someone else (I vote Chris, their relationship in canon was cool and he seems interested).

So no thanks.
