So just as a question, but how long would it take to get there if we ran @drexal15?

As I have no real idea there and with Schwartz's recent chat, I don't think I could trust his math.
A couple hours at most.

Verge is now in the literal Hypersonic range of movement. I.e. more than Mach 5.
I figure we need to let Thresh have his way every so often, or he'd get restless and be harder to manage when needed
Smart man.
Welcome back drex!!!
Thanks. I think that break from this quest was what I needed to clear both my head and writer's palate.

So in lieu of the lack of discussions there is now a new addition to Verge's evolution list, or to be more precise a diagonal evolution for one of our Mega forms, and there are good news and bad news about it.

The good news is that it ensures Verge would be one of the strongest Digimon around no matter what Mega form he digivolves into, and the bad news its a Dark Evolution so its available to only Callismon, and the evolution is Belphemon.

So our Mega list is now
  • Craniummon
  • Baihumon
  • HeavyLeomon
  • Callismon->Belphemon

[] Yes, you suppose so. It may break up the monotony...

===

"I suppose that would break up the monotony…" You admit. "Though, the odds of coming across peer opponents just traveling is-"

"Graha! Too late!" Thresh roars, blasting away on his verniers.

...that is the wrong direction.

Sighing you turn back towards Sparks… only for the Wisemon to teleport right by Schwartz and grab his shoulder.

"Hmm? Whaa-"

"See ya there Verge." He throws a cocky salute your way, then-

*Snap*

-they're gone.

Aye, I'll see you there.

You track Thresh's distant form, watching him *wheel* about in the air back towards your location.

"Uh… which way is it bro?"

"A good question. One to hopefully be answered shortly."

===

Leomon fell to his knees and screamed, filling the air with his pain and anguish. His remaining hand reached up, clutching at the stump where his arm used to be.
Their village's tormentor floated above, eagerly looking down over his new claws with twelve hateful eyes.

"Heeheeheehee! So this is what the next stage feels like! Oh what power!"

With gritted teeth Leomon looked around, Garurumon, Sunflowmon, Wizardmon, all lay around him defeated and barely clinging to their lives.

"So this is it... after our struggles, our battles and training… it all ends here? At the claws of this... rgh, tyrannical demon?"

"You do well to be deleted by one such as I!" NeoDevimon crowed, falling down before the kneeling champion. "But you did well to push me so far… heeheehee! And for that I have to thank you! Never did I imagine a few rowdy rookies would've been able to grow so quickly! That last attack of yours nearly ended my grand existence!" The demon laughed before straightening one clawed hand. "Now get ready for your *reward*!"

Leomon closed his eyes, ready to accept his fate… then felt his core pulsate. Would he really abandon justice? The right thing? If he fell here then his friends would be next! A memory began flashing through his mind-

-but is cut off as the world explodes.

When Leomon next awoke, the champion was first surprised by the fact that he wasn't dead. Second was that his arm has miraculously returned, along with his injuries suspiciously vanishing. And lastly…

Lastly there was the large shallow trench where he'd been kneeling before NeoDevimon.

Just how…

===AN: Pretty short snippet I know, but I wanted to end off on the Leomon's perspective. The last part of this update will be the very longest snippet, so this was a good place to stop and take a small break.

Hah! Funny how Verge just accidently'd this villages version of Count. Oh how far we've come.

Indeed... hmm. I'll definitely have to do a literal comparison after finishing the update. Verge's gone from stats just over double digits to literally thousands of times higher. *sniff*. I always knew that would happen, just a matter of time... and that time has come.
Hell yeah it does! We finally have strength enough to make sure this shit won't happen on our watch.
Quite. Feels quite good doesn't it?
Love it, though I think we interrupted Leomon's Heroic Last Stand.
Whaaaaat? Are you saying that the Leomon would have done some sort of last effort to temporarily rebuff the enemy allow his friends to escape? One that would ultimately cost him his own life? Nah that-that's crazy talk!:p

Yeah, but I'm pretty sure he was about to digivolve. The drive-by Atomic Blaster followed up by the healing spell for all the defenders was fucking hilarious though.

Oh boy! Can't wait for an interlude from the perspective of some two-bit warlord planning out the final stages of their emotional, dramatic campaign, only for our plucky protagonists to abruptly come along and Happen™ to them!
Leomon fell to his knees and screamed, filling the air with his pain and anguish.

*Wipes away a tear.* It's even better than I had dared to dream it might be.

It does bring up an interesting train of thought, though - if Verge knew what we did, that Leomon was maybe seconds from pulling a shounen powerup... would he be disappointed that they got there so quickly? Like, obviously the best option would have been to get there before the killing even started, but at the time of the interlude it sounds like the only one that's about to die is Leomon himself. Has Verge embraced the "Power is Everything" philosophy so much that he would feel guilty for robbing someone of their chance to gain it (and massive trauma! Two-for-one deal!), or would the more common-sense bits win out and let him be thankful that they got there to interrupt any further deaths at all?

Given that the NeoDevimon called them Rookies, I got the impression that he attacked as a Devimon, some of them evolved to Champion in defiance and put him on the ropes, and then the injuries pushed him to Ultimate.

True, but the lines about 'the village's tormentor' and 'rowdy Rookies being able to grow so quickly' make me think that this was the culmination of a longer-term conflict than the one fight we see here - that the defenders had evolved recently, rather than literally 5 minutes ago. In that case, I could definitely see Leomon being willing and able to push for the power of the next stage right then. Not one evolution right after a previous one, but spaced out at least a bit (though sacrificing all those sweet, sweet potential Champion stats to do it.)

33rd Of Earth: Old Friends Reunited... & Asking For Favours.
"You… bit his head off."

Thresh responds in the most classy way he knows… by spitting the last bytes of fading data in your direction.

A simple midair roll avoids the phlegm, but you still feel a few sprinkles of that NeoDevimon's data hitting your fur.

Ugh, disgusting… I must clear it away before entering Caputal Tyranno...

"He was too weeeeeeak." Your younger brother whines clearly disappointed that you'd managed to avoid his attack. "And why'd you make us stay there for so long?"

"It was ten-point two seconds." Comes your counter. "And it was to heal them, you saw the condition of those champions."

"Graaah, but why bother V? They'd have made it… probably."

"Mayhaps… but I had to make sure. Finally doing some good was… pleasant."

And besides, seeing a limbless mon like that… it is too familiar for my liking. This way he's assured to not lose it.

"And besides, assisting them was our duty to Bulwark." You continue with a very genuine smile. For so long you'd been seeking power to do heroic things in Agnimon's name, and now… you not only could, but had. It's a good feeling, very fulfilling.

"Hmph… but we didn't get to fight anything interesting…"

"Not so, you chased after that flock of bird digimon did you not?"

"Yeah… but they all ran after their leader got zapped."

"Did you…. expect them to stay and fight? Ferals may not be fully intelligent, but they intend to survive like all… most mon.

Your sibling's only response is to start whining.

=

The *Tyrant Hills* Zone is… pretty much exactly what you imagined it to look like going from the name. From the very moment you enter it, the stretch of land greets you with sturdy sandstone plateaus and merely barren stretches of wasteland. What greenery exists is sparse, either hiding within crevices or sprouting up around small pockets of water.

What you didn't expect was the ridiculous heat, a blazing force that forces the air to shimmer as if above some great blaze. It cracks the very ground, ignites several very unfortunate young ferals that try venturing out of the shadows and generally makes your body feel as if it's being cooked. Even when moving several times faster than the speed of sound, your fur still ends up being drenched in sweat.

The freaking magma down below Vulcanusmon's forge wasn't this bad…

Thresh has a better time of things… if only barely. The BlackWarGrowlmon might not have fur, but that dark skin and metal body of his really attracts heat.

Fortunately that awful sense of being burned alive falls away as you get closer to your destination.

Even from far away you can spot Caputal Tyrano, as in a wasteland of dark browns, yellows and orange it's the only place that's markedly green.

And there's also the myriad of ridiculously strong auras within. That's a good hint as well.

Most of said energies are foreign, but… two stick out from the group as familiar.

Chitin, jewels... stubbornness? That would certainly be Beat.

Wrath, Holy Power and… Deus Vult? Why does Pit smell like SlashAngemon now? Hmm, I'll be able to ask that soon they're getting clos-

Thresh's signature suddenly spikes with excitement, his pendulum blades rising in anticipation.

-Thresh! Curses.

Acting in haste you tackle the cyborg, grabbing his arms and placing your body in front of his chest cannons.

"Halt! They are not our enemies."

"Ragh? But… I wanna fight…" The behemoth of draconic might and metal actually wilts in the exact same manner as your ward, his ears falling flat against his head. A moment passes, then seeing that his tactic isn't work switches to growling. "Grah! I beat you before! I can do what I want!"

"Leopardmon placed me in charge… and I let you delay us for your fun. Brother… please."

"Grrr… fine." You let go of the Demon-Dragon who then pointedly crosses his arms and looks away from you.

A few moments later, the pair of energies arrive… along with the expected shouting.

"Friend Verge!" The comet of golden flame that is Pit crashes into you, wrapping all four arms your body in a hug. "Praise be to The Lord for reuniting us on this sacred day!"

"Verge." The blackened JewelBeemon comes to a stop mid-air and nods.

"Beat." You return the gesture, before calmly prying the former angel away.

Hmm. Their power has grown significantly since we last met… Zehaha, but not as much as my own.

"... how?" The Insect digimon stares at you, his arms shaking in… what feels like envy. That's… not an emotion you expected from him.

"Accelerated time through the use of a positively aligned Flux-Zone." You explain without a second's hesitation. "Eighty days of training, in eight days."

"..." *Crack* You wince as the armor on his hands begins to splinter apart, but Pit interrupts before you can make an offer to heal him.

"Wondrous friend Verge! Absolutely, truly wondrous! How the Lord has blessed with you such an opportunity!"

"Hn."

Zehaha. I'd missed this…

"Uh… V, bro? Can I go to the city and fight now?"

"I… if the engagement is mutual, and non-lethal."

"Uh…"

"They have to agree to fight you, and no deleting others."

"Sure, I can do that! Thanks!" You send the Demon-Dragon a concerned look as he jets away… but don't go after him. With luck he wouldn't cause too much trouble… at least he won't try and seduce their leader, like Sparks. And speaking of him...

"Pit, Beat, have you encountered Sparks yet?"

"Yes we have my stalwart comrade!" Pit proclaims thrusting a pair of fists at the sky. "How wonderful it was to see him in body!... even if it was with that… unholy, thing."

Ah, so they've met Ser Schwartz as well… Aye, I can see why Pit might not like him.

"A being of destruction. And hunger."

"Zeha… aye, but besides that aura, he's not an evil digimon." The pair of Ultimate's eye you with very strong disbelief, but all you can do is shrug.

Pit breaks the silence a moment later with another yell.

"Be wary Verge! For in this battle royale I intend to win! For the Lord! For the Blessed Host!"

"I expected as much…" You trail off with a frown, comparing his power to those within the City-State, and finding it wanting. In his current state he'd lose to at least two of them, through disparity alone. "But it may prove difficult."

"It will be challenging, friend Verge! That I admit! But my faith will see me through!"

"Hn. We are aware."

"That… reminds me. Did the Host not intend to hold you back from battles until you digivolved? Why risk fielding you here?"

"Hyuk! Hyuk! Hyuk! Good question friend Verge! But this is a special occasion!" You nod at that, and wait for him to explain what that means… but the Asuramon only holds his pose.

"The Host has Astamon's agreement not to fight." Beat explains.

"What you said ally Beat! That fiend has agreed to a ceasefire until a day after this event ends!"

He did? But why…

"Greed. He intends to make money."

"Bits? Is that really so important?"

"It is friend Verge! Plans have been set to broadcast this event across all the City-States! And we shall show them the Host's divine might!"

Every city-state? There must be millions of viewers. Then… spirits below, how much wealth wil be exchanged?"

"Which brings to be to my request friend Verge!" Pit reaches out to you with a pair of hands. "Bulwark may be neutral! But you're my friend! When we meet upon the field, I ask that you don't stand against me!"

"I… cannot provide assistance."

"Nay my stalwart ally! I'm not asking for direct help, only to not fight against me when the time comes!"

Not… fight him?

=== Choose One:

[] Take your friend's hands. Forfeiting like that wouldn't be… what you want, but if it helps him and the Host against Astamon...

[] Refuse. You intend to fight your very hardest in this event, win or lose. If he wants to find victory, it will be on his own merits.

===AN: Aaaand here's the rest!

-[x] Though tell him you'll only go for this non-aggression pack until no one else is left. Otherwise you might as well not even compete.

-[X] Look at Pit like he's lost his damn mind. "Pit, as friends it is my duty to fight you to my utmost; sans deletion. This is a place to gain skill as well as strength, and to hold myself back against you would be a disservice to us both."
