[] Try to carry Auger back, he's heavy but.... you have to try.
===
Several seconds pass in frightened silence as you agonize over what to do next. Auger needs medical attention and fast, but there's no way for him to get any healing out here - for that you'll need Gramps or Sorcerymon. Perhaps with the aid of Gnaw you might be able to bring your friend back quickly, but as more and more time passes it becomes clear that he's not anywhere nearby. You fear that he may not come back in time, though there's more to it. That new form of his, Black Garurumon, is terrifying. He'd brutally deleted every last one of those fleeing Goblimon and now a large part of you was frightened of even seeing him again, or what he might do.
Not that his lack of presence is good either, as with Gnaw being away and Auger being injured to the point of unconsciousness...
I-I might as well be alone out here In th-the wilderness while... while Injured. Oh no! Wha-what if-No! Focus, Verge! Auger needs you!
You shake your head to try and clear away the treacherous frightened thoughts, but the surrounding woods suddenly feels very different from before. Branches which had once simply hung high now seem to loom dangerously low, almost like grasping hands looking to squeeze the life out of whatever they can catch. The slight rustle of wind blow through trees foretells danger from every angle, with every noise hiding some unknown assailant or one of the nearby unconscious Goblimon rising out of sight to finish what it started. What was once just a former battleground warps into a deadly mass of terrors.
So of course your first instinct is to lie down and cover your eyes, shut away the scary things so they can't bother you anymore. Two weeks ago that is exactly what you would have done. But you can't do that, not now. You refuse to be terrified into inaction by something so abstract, not when Auger's life is on the line!
A thread of anger worms it's way through your body, halting the quivering and getting you moving once again.
This situation is really bad... Auger is hurt. He needs to get back to the village to Sorcerymon so he can be healed. I-I'll just have to carry him there!
With careful yet firm movements you wedge your body under the collapsed Armadillomon's midsection, wincing from the pain caused by your many bruises but resolute to press on regardless of the aches. Even with large portions of his carapace melted and small portions crumbling off with every shift your friend is incredibly heavy. It's a struggle to lift his larger body enough to get it firmly on your back - something that only gets worse as you fully heft him into the air. Just the first step is a monumental effort, but you press on nonetheless.
Leaving him here is simply not an option you're willing to take. Even if the other unconscious Goblimon don't try finish him off when they wake up, there's no telling what else might come by to prey upon such an injured mon.
You keep moving back towards the village, groaning with every ponderous step, but refusing to let the pain stop your progress. It's a slow journey back, Auger's almost over-encumbering weight nearly making you fall more than a dozen times. However, the pain from each near trip lends you a flash of rage which provides just enough energy to keep going. Minutes pass, then hours. Over that time your load slowly lightens as bits and pieces of your digging buddy fall off with every movement. A sharp focus, almost like that which comes from drilling comes over your mind, pushing away the worries and dulling the pain. For a time, things seem better.
Then your front paw catches a root and it all comes crashing down.
Balance lost, you let out a roar of pain and surprise and stumble, desperately trying to recover your balance. However, the shift in weight leads to Auger leaning too far left and he tumbles off even as you finally collapse from the strain.
Data begins to crumbles off his body en masse and the Armadillomon gives a final weak cough as the last bits of his shell begin to fade away.
"Auger No! Don't-don't go" You weakly force yourself back up and step forward only to freeze up at an unexpected sight.
I...What do I do?
A familiar while glow encompasses what remains of Auger's form, sending a surge of hope through your body.
He-he's digivolving? Yes! Auger's going to make it, he's going to be fine! He's going to be-
Then Auger begins to rapidly shrink losing both shape and cohesion, his data reformatting into something much, much tinier. The process finishes quickly and ends with you looking at Auger in a distantly less impressive form.
-Small?
While you gape in quiet shock, the new(?) In-Training digimon lets out a quiet yawn then starts snoring.
Auger?
For the next minute you simply stand there in silence unsure of what to do. It takes a little while to finally come out of your stupor.
R-right, I should get to the village! Maybe... Maybe Gramps will know what happened?
Scooping up the small digimon with a single paw, you get back on track towards the village, albeit moving much faster this time. The baby digimon you're cradling is a lot lighter than his previous Armadillomon form and thus you manage to move much faster than before. You make it back to the village's walls not much later and immediately begin shouting to see if Gramps has returned along with the other two members of his group. Thankfully your answer is quickly forthcoming, though it's in the startling form of an Elecmon suddenly blurring in front of you and screaming out:
"By The Ten! What happened!?"
At Gramps' prompting, you begin explaining the events of today's morning and afternoon. Once you've finished, the old rookie curses again and then snatches the sleeping *Upamon* from your paw so he can check over Auger personally. After looking over the unconscious digimon for a few seconds he lets out a sigh of relief and then proclaims him to "Be fine"
Even upon hearing the news, your chest still doesn't feel any less hollow. Auger had been badly hurt in your presence, and then when you tried to help he'd gotten worse to the point de-digivolving.
This... This happened because of me. If-I... If I'd been stronger then maybe... I could have carried him faster or-or...
You trail off on that thought and hang your head in shame.
Flamemon would have protected him.
Gramps brings Sorcerymon over a little bit later to heal your wounds and you take the opportunity to ask him where Flamemon and Fu are. The village's caretaker explains that the Lalamon is napping along with Lunamona and Sparks, then explains that Flamemon finally got his permission to go out and do some training. Shortly thereafter he puts Auger back in his hut, then goes to leave, proclaiming that he needs to find Gnaw. Leaving you alone to...
...as he leaves you can't help but eye the open gate.
I-I need to train harder. This Auger can't fight anymore and... Flamemon is-I need to talk.

Authors Note:
For Auger I had a couple options for how to handle this injury and in the end this just made the most sense to me. Auger was heavily wounded, almost mortally so. Verge in this state and at this level of strength moving him so much made things worse.
Enough of the distractions time to get back tot he main story proper once again! I'm sorry for the recent Melodrama plaguing the thread. Sadly I have a little as when it rains it pours. In the pre-planning stage of this quest I wanted to get permission for using two pictures from Deviant artists. But I only remembered to get it from one. The Drimogemon picture I had set up was from an artist called extyranomon, and I wrongly put it up without his permission or giving him credit. The Fabulous @Tam Lin thankfully alerted me to my grave injustice and I've now taken it down. I have sent an apology to the creator as well as askance to put it properly with full credit given.
