[ ] Say nothing. Beat is right. Sometimes it is better to stay out of these arguments.

[X] Do: Pit is right. You shouldn't leave an ally to be interrogated by the enemy and Shutumon may not be there... plus it's possible that there could be a strong opponent there for you to battle.

My god we are going to go back and forth in this.

All right I'll settle this here, I remember the word Digimons being the plural form of Digimon, with Digimon being singular. The sources I have for this assumption is the digimon anime, which have used this.

Now I've given my reason for why I believe that there is a s for the plural form, tell me why you believe otherwise.

Gotta say, it's a bit worrying how Verge's thought process is "I'm not powerful enough to physically dominate my ideological opponent, and thus I can't win the argument."
Verge was hit by a very cold dose of *reality* when the Village got destroyed. Ideals need to be backed by power in order to work. Being *right* doesn't matter if the person espousing the *wrong* thing can kick your ass and out his ideology forward instead.
Oh yeah, was the Ultimate bird we beat carrying any bits? Those would have fallen on the floor when the commander killed it, wouldn't they?
... yes it really should have been. Gimme a few minutes to roll up the results.

Edit: Alright rolled. Verge gains 6 thousand bits.

However in the more immediate term, you make do with following his orders. Moving to join the group of resting mon while he flies off out of the nest for some activity. Thankfully your healing spell works just fine on the Ultimate's many injuries... for the most part at least. Fully recovering that Angewomon's severed hand is beyond your current capabilities, which is a shame. Seeing others hurt like that is... never a good thing.
Probably should have brought Polly to the Angewomon, I think. Less immediate combat power, but better long term.

Because Magnaangemon can fight tired, but Angewomon are archers and thus useless with one hand gone.
Unfortunately, your internal pool of power is simply not enough to treat the entire strike force's injuries. While you didn't actually spend that much time in combat, summoning up a dozen Crusher Bones for throwing was a bit draining. You prioritize those with the very worst injuries, even managing to stop one Angemon from leaking a lethal amount of his data. During this, your suspicions about them running out of spirit is confirmed. Between the nest extermination and defending the garrison they'd all run out of energy during the latter stages of battle.
Hazards of being outnumbered, even if you win your energy's going to be tanked, and theres two uncountered Ultimates going around too.
Darcmon and Sparks rise up from the bowl's center near the end of your healing spree to distribute what remains of defeated foe's rations. Surprisingly it isn't a form of Travel Bread, but rather just bags filled with seeds. Not one to turn down a meal, you let Sparks pour a sack of the stuff into your mouth-and are surprised to find that it's actually not bad. Somemon applied a sweetener to the crunchy rations' outsides, making them a rather tasty snack.
Well, they ARE birds. I guess they like cereal.
The stormy night continues to drag on, slowly draining at your allies' attitude all the while. Well, most of them anyways. Sparks cheats by using High Programming to keep himself both warm and dry. Though he apologizes for not being able to provide the same thing for you, citing his lack of spirit and your massive body as the primary causes. Which makes sense, your thick fur is utterly soaked. But oddly, for some seemingly inexplicable reason your main body doesn't get all that chilly. A mystery to be sure.
Boon from the Sparks link thing?
Or maybe just the bear undercoat thing. IIRC bears go into water enough that their undercoat has enough oil to repel water and keep it from directly chilling them.

"N-no ma'am. I think at least. Shutumon got everyone but me and the sergeant!"

"Shutumon?" Beat questions intently, glaring down at the armored mammal.
Legendary Warrior Ultimate huh?
Nasty matchup for the Host, an aerial combatant without weakness to light and too fast to engage at range.

"Well ma'm... sergeant Unimon had that after dealing with the courier"

"Fuck. And he's dead then?"

"No! Shutumon whacked him on the head and handed him off to a Silphymon. She said something about beating information out of him, then vanished! I... think the others headed east? They said something about a *secret nest* which must be the place we found that courier."
Note we don't have the intel to finish this mission unless we rescue. Practical reasons.

Drimogemon option still going to be super valuable in breaking in and getting out covertly. And if they DO have Shutumon around...well the best place to fight the Wind warrior is underground.

This branch of the path is more dangerous. Perhaps enough to bring my journey to an end. But... Pit is right. We could save him. It's what Agnimon would have done. A hero would strive for what's right, even through the danger... besides, there may be even be a worthy opponent waiting at the end.

"I do not believe it likely for Shutumon to be present. If she bears the power of a mega as you say, then waiting around would be a waste of her power." You give the worried looking Pit a nod, who flashes you a victorious grin in return. "We should attem-"

No. Not attempt.

"-We will save Unimon."

"Hyuk, hyuk, hyuk! Well stated my stalwart companion! It would be a betrayal of the Holy Lord's name to just let our fellow soldier perish!"

"Blegh. This is stupid. Thine opinions are foolish!" Sparks grumbles, burying his face in a solitary palm. "Tis a shame mine presence would be so sorely missed."

"Daemonshit. Now all of you idiots want to go and get yourselves fucking deleted" The angel spins around and kicks at the ground, tearing up a spray of dirt. "Fuck it. Fine. Armadillomon, can you give directions from the air?"

"Y-yes ma'am! Last time it was a couple hours northwest by fast flight. So..." he pauses to look up at the setting sun and you suddenly feel a tinge of sympathy for the Auger look-alike.

"We'll arrive in the late evening." You finish for him.

Auger... I haven't forgotten you.

"Fine. Let's just hope those cowardly flying fucks aren't as good at torture as The Gloaming." Her words spark a slight tinge of wrath from your core, which turns into confusion as you look at the angelic champion.

... she knows about Gloaming torture?

"Hey *hefty*, devolve for now. You're too big for *Old Ironsides* to carry by himself."

Why would-oh... spirits below.

It's okay Verge. It's okay, you won't f-fall. J-just hang on. It's been one hundred and nine minutes we-we're almost there.

Quite fortunately, your trepidation over heights hadn't entirely regressed back after sliding down to Drimogemon... but even that small mercy means you're just a nervous wreck. Though you suppose it's better than being terrified into a state of non-consciousness. Only now, you have the added, increasingly difficult worry of keeping your form in check. Even a small slip of focus could lead to you flipping back to Gryzmon and that could have lethal consequences.

As a Drimogemon your home, the place where your body should be is the ground. Going airborne is the literal opposite to most of this evolution's instincts.

Eventually however, Armadillomon does call for HippoGriffomon to land. And this time, you don't waste time waiting for the Ultimate to settle down before leaping off to rejoin the comforting feeling of solid ground. Sadly, you don't get much time to bask in the infatuation for long as a hoarse scream pierces through the air.

Oh-oh! Screams, could it-

"Sergeant Unimon! That's-it has to be him!"

"Then what in the Lord's name are we waiting for? Come comrades! We-"

*Thwack*

"-Oof" Pit flinches back, one hand rubbing at his shoulder. "Ma'am what was-"

"-We're already being moronic enough for coming here in the first place." Your leader snarls, pulling her cane away from the smaller angel. "I'm not letting us just charge in there like a bunch of brainless idiots. We're going to murder the shit out of them the right way."

"Wark!" her mount joins in... though you have a feeling that the feral is more supporting its rider rather than actually knowing what's going on.

... can he even understand language fully? I mean... he kind of like, does seem to understand simple commands. But he doesn't speak? Maybe-Focus.

"Al-er. Right." Pit mumbles, enthusiasm curbed.

"Heh."

"Alright pipsqueak. The cur-whatever the fucks-it isn't far from here right?"

"Y-yes? Their secret nest is just a few minutes walk away. In this form I'm pretty sure I could even find it at night."

"Good start telling me details, every-fricken thing you know..." The champion takes a step forward then waves a hand towards the rest of you group. "Scarface stay in that form for now... and dumbassess start walking and keep quiet I don't want them hearing us."

"R-right!"

"Yes ma'am!"

"Hn."

"O-okay. Ma'am our uh, target location is-"

=

The *Couriers Nest* as Armadillomon put it is well hidden. Located in the midst of four separate foothills and covered from above by a naturally occurring strip of stone, it provides an inconspicuous spot to hide, rest or in the case of your current enemies, torture.

If not for our newly gained ally, then there really would have been no way to acquire this location.

"Those jackasses will have watches set up for anymon moving over the hills."

"Verily. 'Tis a good thing we have a way past that little problem."

Huh? Oh! Y-yes.

"M-me? I uh. Guess my drills could do it pretty quickly..."

"Chuckles over there is correct. Get to digging, but take broody and hot-head with you." the wommon orders, between consecutive sips from her flask.

... s-seriously? Now...

"Umm... excuse me." Pit coughs, looking around in confusion. "Who's hot-head?"

"You."

"Me?" Your angelic companion question, seeming a bit offended. "But... I have a nickname. Pit. If you're giving me another one then shouldn't it be... *ahem* cool?."

"..." Darcmon glares at your friend in silence before, her mouth warps into a mocking smile. "Alright. I read this one from a book. It means brave and totally not a dipshit." you blink at her sudden change, wondering why she'd suddenly give in to Pit's demand. "So Mr. Crabbywings. Once through, the two of you will murder whatever the fuck is by Unimon and then drag him back out through the tunnel. Old Ironsides and I will handle Silphymon, those bastards only need a few good hits to take down.

"And if by chance we should encounter Shutumon?"
Sparks questions, only to be met with a shrug.

"Then we're all fucking dead. Well except maybe you and hefty over there. If you're lucky she'll be too busy killing us to see you escape." With that she tips her flask back, draining the rest of the foul smelling contents and tosses it over her shoulder. "Friggen post sold me weak-ass sauce. Goddamn I didn't want to die sober." Her words are punctuated by yet another scream from the captured sergeant.

M-maybe we could t-turn back? They don't know we're here and-Focus. Flamemon. Lunamon. Thresh. You won't let them down.

=

With the strength and speed imparted by the Gryzmon form, you explode out of the hill face in a shower of rock and earth. Two blurs: one green and one a fiery gold soar overhead, weapons primed for combat.

Unimon lies in the *valley's* very center, his body a barely moving wreck of damage. You hadn't wanted to imagine what was being done to the champion, but the reality is far worse than anything that your mind could have convened. Both of the digimon's wings have been clipped, split down the middle and plucked of their feathers. Even the skin has been stripped away to reveal the bone underneath. What had once been a covering on his face has been stripped away piece by piece, gouged out bit by bit until only tiny fragments of crimson metal remain. Raw data shines from the many gaps, exposing his second-most vital functions to the open air.

Nausea erupts from your core in a nearly overwhelming capacity. But you manage to hold your lunch down... that is until your eye spots his lower body.

Long strips of digital flesh have been torn away from torso and belly, crisscrossing in a sickeningly clinical fashion from his shoulders to his flanks. Leading down to his legs... which is when your eye darts off, unwilling to gaze at the victim for even a second longer.

Oh Lord. Spirits below. Why? WHY?

The ones clearly responsible for the sergeant's condition rise up, with high-pitched sounds of surprise. However instead of freezing, the soldiers jerk into action. Beat's target, a rotund bird barely bigger than a Wizardmon with small wings and a lengthy beak, ducks into it's shell-like lower body, barely managing to be avoid being impaled by Beat's opening thrust.

Meanwhile the Holsmon, leaps to meet Pit with a roar, slamming it's head directly into his rod and actually throwing your friend's weapon up. The champion's(?) front-talons lash up, dragging a familiar looking set of marks down his chest.

Behind them, two more champions rise rise up off the ground. Your eye barely manages to track the Birdramon's movements, while the machine digimon Pteranomon manages to momentarily blink out of existence.

The sole humanoid digimon amongst the Vortex Isle combatants, vaults up to his clawed feet, his mouth twisting into a confident smirk.

"Shi, shi, shi, I was wondering if-"

"Thunder Cloud!"
Sparks shouts from behind you, tossing a ball of sizzling energy towards the Ultimate. However the visor bearing figure takes a single step forward and casually swings one feathered arm, effortlessly backhanding the lethal attack away.

"-if there were any survivors of that despicable scum left." Their left hand rises up, red power, shining to life in their palm. "In AncientIrismon's name not a single one of you corrupters or traitors will soar free from this place alive!" The Ultimate's hands close together, transforming the light into a tangible ball of deadly intent. You gaze at the mon with trepidation, readying to slide up. Then blink as it suddenly curses and leaps to the side.

"Tch. Don't think mine next shot shalt be that weak!"

Darcmon's new longsword whistles through the air a fraction of a second later, plunging into the ground and burying itself to the very hilt. However the wommon is not, with it. Rather as you look up, she's charging at the other two airborne champions.

HippoGriffomon on the other paw is coming. The chimera digimon unleashes a furious "Wark!" and swoops down, breaking through the thin rock overhang and charging at Silphymon.

"More of you? Hmph, so be it! We will protect this world!" The Ultimate vanishes from sight, and reappears beneath your ally's chest. "Top Gun!" The former Maildramon flinches, letting out a pained roar, but manages to keep enough of his momentum to transition into a tackle. Carrying the much smaller digimon into the back wall.

Protect this w-world? What does-Focus!/Focus!

Your eye closes. The sensation of pressure is released.

Verge The Drimogemon disappears.

Verge the Gryzmon roars.

=== Choose One:

[] Pit: He had the most trouble against his opponent in the opening seconds. You'll free him up so he can heal Unimon.

[] Beat: His opponent's shell appears to be tough, able to block even Beat's stinger. It's time to test whether your war-gauntlets can exceed that toughness.

[] Unimon: The Sergeant is why you're here in the first place. What's more he's suffering immensely from the many injuries. Go and ease his suffering with your magic.

[] Darcmon: Your leader is the physically weakest member of the group aside from Sparks. She won't last long against two champions that strong. You might not have the best way to fight at range, but perhaps by joining with Sparks...

[] HippoGriffomon: Your feral allies opponent is the strongest opponent here. Even if it's not a one on one fight, you data is boiling at the thought of fighting him. This is your chance to have another true battle. Use Hasten Burst and give into your desire to fight.

===Authors Note! Keke, and here we go! I hope the description of Unimon's state wasn't too squicky. My apologies if it was. Not all of Vortex isle's soldiers are that brutal. But this group is... let's just say not normal.

If we free up Darcmon, she can help the others, and might even have a healing item to use on Unimon. We can't risk drawing fire to the captive right now, not unless we want to risk them deleting him. Also, I'd be willing to bet that Holsmon is using a Digimental as opposed to being a natural evolution due to its power. So we may get some loot out of this fight along with some intel.

Also since we are working with Sparks again, I wonder if we will be able to do that sync up again.

Time to give this jerks a good what for!

....Honestly you'd think most Digimon factions would think torture a bad idea given that emotional trauma is one of the big things need to Dark Digivolve but then again humans already insist on using it despite all it's flaws so I guess some factions using it would make sense.

Speaking of "Power of Friendship" did anyone else note that Pit was speaking in orange rather than in gold there for a moment?
Well the color orange does also seem associated with Courage.... just because Pit is an angry guy doesn't mean he's a Khorne berserker incapable of actual courage due to their bloodlust crowding out any feeling of actual fear. Nevermind GM confirmed it something else.

Also its amazing how often Verge's Drills come into us, in a way it makes sense considered that digging is a power that's almost always going to have some utility whenever you in the air or over water, nice to see our fellow squad members remember that.

So he did, is it a mistake or is orange the color of friendship and bond? Would that mean we deepened our friendship with Pit with this one act? Or again did Drexal just make a mistake.
It's the very last. I messed up.
