I mean nothing saying the crests can move on or have multiple candidates

Just look at Pidmon going Pseudo-Ultimate. That damn thing can evolve into Gulfmon who then evolves into Apocalymon
True enough and Verge has both been the weakest group member for a long time (On top of being the weakest in his group of friends before) and had the threat of immenent death hanging over his head for a long time, he could very well be repressing some envy.

And Levimon is the biggest of the normal DL.

....eh at least it wouldn't be another humanoid Mega form.

That said in all honestly I wouldn't be surprised if Verge really is just a swoll mutant brought about as an old weapons project, sure it wouldn't have any great destiny but being able to smack around those who do when you don't have one could be fun.

I actually kind of like the idea of Verge being the guy that was just randomly thrown into this, no fate, no destiny, not higher purpose. And somewhere deep in his mind went "Fuck. That. Shit."

Pretty much... which is actually one of the reasons I hope he goes bear.

I mean just immagine that epic battle between powerful champion levels of destiny going down, and then a freaking bear that just happens to be really swoll comes along and mauls one of em to death!

There's also the reaction of someone that's kind of been ignored up until now. Who just saw Scratch die. I don't think Ardat is going to take this well...

There's one other upside to the current situation that nobody has mentioned yet.

Scratch being dead means that there's nobody to actually subtract those two weeks of pay :V

Evolution To Champion: "The Only Way", *Gryzmon* & The Second Step To Revenge

Wrath.

The long runic blade is wrenched free, in a shower of your most crucial bytes of data. The tipping point of your already damaged body is reached, and then surpassed. You begin the process of fading away. Tears begin to stream out uncontrollably from your eyes.

Betrayal.

You leap upon the Mistymon with a wordless, feral snarl racking your claws against his already damaged body. The fact that they don't so much as leave a mark doesn't matter, all you can think about is rending agony upon the being you once trusted.

His blade comes flashing down point first, even through the berserk haze of crimson a part of your mind comprehends death when it comes.

Naturally this leaves you utterly perplexed as the tip of his weapon passes right by your neck and plunges deep into the Ultimate's own digicore.

"*Cough*"

WHAT?!

"Only-huah, only way. You have to-huah be on the brink... Take my. Data. I order you to. Erk, Load... everything you. Can" Without a core, sir Scratch's body begins to break apart at an exponentially faster rate, you embrace the anger, the sudden sorrow, and grit your teeth so hard they begin to crack.

Sir I. what-this... I understand.

"Yes. Sir."

You pull on the magical knight's being, taking the excess bytes and absorbing them into your already strained frame. Even as it begins to heal your many, many wounds, the pressurized data has nowhere to go. Your body roils, swelling and boiling over in protest as it strugles to contain the sudden stream of foreign material. Until a Critical mass is finally reached. A wordless scream quite literally explodes from your throat.

"Please... protect Ardat. My little… Nyaro-."

Then it happens, Your core pulses with power, surging to every nook and cranny of your rapidly failing body.

"I know you'll make me proud"

"Drimogemon Digivolve To!"

"Gryzmon!"

You rise, towering body, expanding out of the crater in a flash of light. Unworthy opponents freeze in place rightfully terrified by your power.

The world shakes under your battle-cry, recognizing your newfound strength, as it very well should. SkullSatomon kneels a mere two dozen feet away, his left leg missing at the knee as if somemon had simply pulled it off. Attacking a wounded opponent is dishonorable, but for Scratch's slayer?

I will make an exception.

You raise one leg expertly balancing on your remaining paw and step forward. The ground crumbles underneath the force of your weight, bladed grass harmlessly slides off your thick fur, unable to so much as score the surface. Skullsatomon stares at your remaining eye for some hint of weakness. You give him nothing but powerful, but controlled wrath. He flinches away from your glare shouting an order of some kind, but his words do not matter. One way or another, his path ends here. You take another step.

"Rock Punch!"
A fist of stone buries itself into your fur, and crashes against your side. The weak force isn't so much as able to make you flinch. In the span of a quarter-second you turn to regard the Golemon, and examine the threat.

There is none.

They're so heavy... these claws.

You offhandedly swipe the champion's face with one massive paw. Metal tears in half, his head shatters and you take another step forward. You don't spare the rapidly fading soldier a glance, there is no pity to give him. Another step. You're close now.

SkullSatomon lowers his staff towards your chest.

"Nail Bone!"

An attack fully capable to destroying Ultimate level digimon streams towards you. It's too fast to dodge but...

It is not a threat.

Your war gauntlets rise up to meet the disintegration ray. Black metal gleaming under the noon sun, unflinchingly meeting the infernal energy head on. It is unmarred.

"N-no! How?!" The unworthy opponent flinches back once more, but it's too later. You're within range, and your claws are heavy. He attacks, bone arms pumping to swing his staff at your head, perhaps with enough power to end your life, but-

-you see it coming.

"Atemigaeshi!" Your paws wheel redirecting the blow harmlessly into the ground even as your other war gauntlet counter, pulling his remaining leg out from under him. The off-balance Ultimate crashes down to the earth with a squeal of surprise.

"Boss, help me!"

It is too late.

The wound Sir Scratch drew upon his torso still remains, his core is vulnerable. Your anger pools deeply, creating new strength and flowing into your next strike. The proper stance is chosen, your weight is shifted perfectly.

"Crescent Dawn!"

SkullSatomon's weapon swings once again, it's speed empowered by sudden fear.

It-is-too-late.

Your paw smashes through bone, cuts through chitin, and stabs into his most vulnerable area. His staff crashes harmlessly off your studded pauldron.

Victory is mine. As it should be.

His data would be useful, but you do not load it. Desperation does not drive you and this mere thug was unworthy. He would not have the honor of becoming a part of you. The nearby soldiers flee and you let them leave unhindered, striking an opponent's rear is beneath you.

Relief floods through your veins as Sparks body proves to be unspoiled. Your friend remains among the living. Good. His path ending here would be a tragedy, the bonds of your shared oath still hold strong. Pidmon breathes heavily near the clearing's opposite edge covered in wounds but very much alive. Good.

Aside from those you already counted, two other digimon remain in the clearing. Count and his current screaming LadyDevimon. Perhaps calling it a fight would be too charitable. The wommon is unskilled in close combat, clumsy, she wastes movements. Repulsa's commander systemically and ruthlessly advances into her guard, effortlessly parrying her furious, feral swipes and landing targeted punches in return.

You know naught why the two do battle, but that does not matter. You've already slain one Ultimate this day. Two more is just as well.

She screams, arm transforming into a lance that plunges towards Count's chest-only for the Vamdemon's left hand to push it away with the barest force, letting it streak harmlessly past. His other arm chops into the LadyDevimon's neck.

*Whack*

The demon falls.

Admiration swells up in your core for the vampire's technique. Even outmatched in speed and strength he still managed to win leveraging his superior skill. If not for his allegiance and crimes, he may have made a good teacher. Victory is uncertain, even with the Sergeant's strength his power is far beyond yours. As is his skill. But there is no room for doubt. Either you win, or you die. That is your path and it is one you walk willingly.

Count turns to regard you now that his foe is down, eyes narrowed warily.

"You struck down my servant. To think you'd be able to slide evolve into such a powerful Gryzmon. Mutant, I must admit to underestimating you. Perhaps I should have taken you with the starlet." He shrugs. "Alas, that time has passed. You shall follow the path of that Mistymon." Red energy forms around his left arm. You take a stance, war-gauntlets raised defensively.

It is time. I shall test myself against-

"Darkness Wave!"

A shrieking purple cyclone of crackling demonic energy strikes Vamdmon from behind swallowing him up in it's dark power. The powerful Vamdemon screams as his clothes are flesh are stripped away by the corrosive force, something that only grows fainter as LadyDevimon's attack carries him away from the clearing. He flies over the bladed tree-tops and out of sight, seemingly removed from the fight for good.

You blink once at the surprising sight, then pivot the face the kneeling wommon.

"Verge?"
a familiar voice echoes from her voice, but you do not heed it in the least. That form, this is an enemy that must be destroyed and your claws are heavy. She's smaller than you expected, barely coming up to your belly and unable to match even a third of your width. However she is an ultimate, so that frame belies a stunning power. You must be wary. "Verge!"

Three steps.

The kneeling being flashes forward before you can make a move darting in past your guard and wrapping her spindly limbs around thick-fur covered neck. You

There is no outside influence. There is only the bonds of friendship. Her words, her actions, more than any outer form, they speak to you of who this is. This is Ardat, and she has lost so much.

Also, It's interesting to know that what was holding him back was a lack of Suitable forms to evolve into without outside help. Makes me think his Drimogemon Body was designed whoever did it planned on doing the same for his next form...

"Please... protect Ardat. My little… Nyaro-."

Verge is prolly the one person who knows EXACTLY how she's feeling.

@Rathous you forgot to include the "X" inside of the brackets.

Also, it seems Verge has shed his fear. Can't wait to see how his traits have changed due to his new outlook.

That was all I could have hope for. Amazing. Also I love how different Verge's mentality is compared to before. For the most part you can only bare realize the two were one and the same. Man I knew they'red be changes, but not this big. Guess experiencing and seeing are truly two diffrent things after all.

Plus I did NOT expect him to beable to just shred SkullSatamon like that. He had to be fresh.

Now for the vote. Is anyone else the least bit concerned at how the last one is radically different from the first two along with it being weirdly empathize?

Oh well still going with it due to it being the only seemingly non hostile action.

[X] *Hug*.

Things are going to kind of come to a head here though. There's no way that's anyone but Ardat. But... will the Host be willing to keep her on?

There's no color-change to imply that it's an outside influence, not like before. It's more Verge being observant and clear-headed enough that he can tell it's not an attack.
