So now we have another mon getting into the mix here and a ultimate at that.
Man, this side mission is getting really crazy here, though I guess we now know who was leading this whole attack and all. Since there is no way this guy just showed up on the random and all.
I had a feeling Sarge had yet to show his true power! Blitzmon got fuckin' schooled.
See guys? we aren't totally fucked. just somewhat fucked.
On the one hand, it could be a Gargoylemon. on the other hand, it could be a Phelesmon. either way we're in for a brawl. good thing Pidmon wrapped up his dogfight with Saberdramon(considering it only took part of an update, it must've been the Virus subspecies) to pop a Mega Heal for us.
Probably Phelesmon considering the after-effects.
Lots of new feelings and probably learned that accepting help of others and power of Loyalty, as they technically aren't friends yet, works and only because AssButerimon became a champion he survived the combined assault of the both.
So Scratch was hiding in his Champion form when in reality he was a Ult. That's impressive thinking.
Also anyone else notice a trend going on? Like anytime a Warrior Rookie evolves into their LW form they die in the fight that had them evolve in the first place.

TBH, I wouldn't mind too much. While Sarge was able to take him down easily, that still steals the win away from Beat, which I don't think was his intention at all. I hope those Rookies got away clean at least... Though I'm a litle disturbed there weren't any Digieggs here either... You guys think the Fugamon took them to sell?

I imagine that'd be quite a profitable underground business, yeah. It's unlikely they just smashed them for no reason and Fugamon's been gone for quite a while, so it checks out.
So something that came up in the Discord that I'm bringing to light here for those who aren't in the discord is, as mentioned a bit ago, the fact that Scratch Downgraded to Gladimon for convenience and personal preference(He likes being smol it seems).
I asked Drex shortly after the update as to whether or not Verge could learn how to do so as well, and he said it was 'theoretically possible'.
Now, if we consider that as a Gryzmon, Verge would be eating as much as most Ultimates, it'd probably be a good idea for Scratch to teach him such a trick. if only so we don't make like a Battleship/Aircraft Carrier in Kantai Collection and eat the squad out of house and home.
So that led to another train of thought. if Verge does get Gryzmon as his Champion evo, he could serve as the team's Armored Personnel Carrier.
I doubt it's just for comfort, or he would have told the group. I'm betting that he's keeping his power a secret for one reason or another, probably something related to his motives for choosing this particular squad. I bet he's going to order us all to keep our mouths shut about it after this.

Nah, Drex actually stated outright he prefers his Gladimon form. He's not fond of being roughly 9 feet tall. the fact that it saves him a ton on the food bill is a mere side bonus.

Eh, the whole squad has their quirks and hangups. it'd be more unusual if Sarge didn't have at least some minor quirk or foible. this just happens to be one of his quirks.

A red and black streak of motion crashes down on the remnants of the metal cage, scattering the few fragments of yet to be melted material. You blink to clear your vision, then narrow your eye to study the newly arrived digimon.
Red skin, two wings, horns, and tight black clothing. It's a devil!
You nearly flinch back at the realization and Sparks tightly clutches at your arm in sudden fright. Together you let out nervous gulps.
Scratch stays on guard as the demonic digimon approaches, though said mon's attention seems to be more focused on the newly created statue than anything else.
"A little damaged, but still extremely rare! To think I'd find a member of the Legendary Warriors out here! Ooh, I can't wait to rub it in that snide vampire's face!" Even as he speaks, two more red figures with tridents descend from the air, though these ones are smaller and lacking clothing of any sort. They move to stand beside what you can assume to be their master, tridents held at the ready.
"Still..." the digimon continues, looking up to glare at your sergeant. "I could have done without losing the merchandise." The Ultimate(?) level digimon playfully twirls the trident in his right hand, and slams the haft down. "But I've yet to add a Mistymon to my collection, I suppose you'll do as a substitute for their loss."
"No!" The sword-wielding digimon snaps, leveling his blade at the devil. "I give you this chance. Leave."
"Hmmmm..." The winged digimon lightly taps his chin with a finger as if thinking it over, then mockingly shakes his head. "I'm thinking… No."
A number of heavy footfalls sound out from the forest behind you, prompting you, and the rest of the party barring Scratch, to turn around. Two digimon lumber free from the trees and into the clearing behind you, the first of which is nearly as tall as Blitzmon was, with orange skin and a metal studded bone in one hand. The resemblance to Ogremon he posses is unquestionable, and completely infuriating. Meanwhile the other is clearly a rookie, barely reaching Sparks' height of three feet including its armor, and wields what looks like a stick of some sort.
More enemies?
"Where are my underlings?" The larger mon's deep voice growls, something about the way he's stressing the word *my* sounding vaguely familiar.
"The cretins in service of the Accursed Gloaming here have been wiped out or set to rout!" Pidmon, proudly proclaims, raising his rod into the air. "I vanquished the foul black bird myself!"
His response prompts the Ogremon look-alike to snarl, raising his club up above his head to attack. The Kotemon mirrors this gesture, and hops forward, clearly ready to fight beside the champion. However they both freeze as the Ultimate on the other side of your group snaps at him.
"Don't speak, Fugamon. Your promised merchandise is gone, as are any replacements. Help my servants take care of this mess and I may show mercy." The *Fugamon's* face twists up in sudden anger, and for a moment you think he's going to snarl something back. However after a couple seconds pass, he bites the anger down and slowly nods his head. "Good. #1, see my new treasure is brought back whole. #2, take care of the Pidmon; common trash like him are completely without value."
"Y-yes, Lord Phelesmon!" The champion on the right shouts, before stepping towards the black statue which had been Blitzmon.
"With pleasure, Lord Phelesmon!" His opposite nods, clasping his trident before rushing towards your friend. "Death Clash!"
Pidmon nimbly twists aside, dodging the strikes before taking off into the air.
"Hold on comrades! I shall finish this devil off soon and return!" He cries, taking his holy rod in hand just in time to deflect a second stab. The two battling champions rise up into the sky and out of sight, leaving you, Sparks and Ardat up against the Fugamon and his rookie companion.
Scratch throws a regretful glance at the three of you, before vanishing into thin air. A trio of trees at the back of the clearing suddenly fall down, and you barely catch sight of a red and black blur knocked back through the air. You fearfully look at the champion, realizing with no small amount of horror that you and Sparks are the only ones left here who can fight. Beat is unconscious, and Ardat… She can't even raise her arm, much less cast a spell.
This-I... I can run.
You look down towards the clearing battered ground, and have doubt that you could dig down and get out of the way with Sparks before the Fugamon's club is able to reach you. Only, that would leave your other two comrades at his mercy and...
That not something I'm willing to do.
Taking a deep breath that does absolutely nothing to assuage the fear, you rear up on your hind legs and raise your paws. Sparks hops besides you, letting go of your fur so he can clench his fist.
"Together..." the Candlemon whispers to himself. "We'll-we'll do it together!"
Fugamon steps forward with angry, yet controlled expression, but pauses after only covering a few feet. The large digimon examines you more closely, blinks then throws back his head for a deep satisfied laugh.
"The Mutant!" he exclaims, moving one hand up to massage his face. "I never believed that I would see you again" his head turns towards sparks, lips moving back to reveal a vicious grin. "So you must be the pilot."
He-he knows us?
"You know of them Lord Fugamon?" The rookie questions, still staring towards you.
"I do" he replies. "They were partly responsible for my greatest failure. Now my mines have been passed off to some other mon."
His mines? Wait! He's...
"Shamanmon!" You bite out.
"I was." the champion nods, moving to rest his club beside his leg. "Now I am so much more. You stand no chance of victory Mutant. I shall avenge my underlings that your comrades so gladly slew!" His face twists up into anger, then regret as he bows his head. "Before you perish, I will say that the destruction of your village was never my intention. I held no notion that my superiors would carry out those actions. As little as it means to you, I am sorry." It was him. He told Repulsa!
"You-you..." Sparks begins shaking in sudden anger, his fiery head flaring up to fully triple in size. Little bits of data begin leaking from his remaining hand, as he clenches even harder.
"To my regret, yes." Fugamon nods. "However, that shall not save either of you. My word will be kept; you shall both be deleted before this day ends." He did it.
"Lord Fugamon, may I take care of the beast?"
Prancer, Fu.
"No Kotemon. These are mine." Flamemon.
The champion resumes his march forward as his rookie companion just watches for now, and you rush forwards to meet him, every drill on your body spinning at top speed. With a roar of anger you bend your limbs, expend every ounce of power your have left in an explosive leap, and soar towards his belly nose first.
Something hard and heavy smashes against you skull, and you crash down into the dirt with cracked everything. Once again, the haze created by your brain bouncing around like a pinball brings with it an odd, peaceful clarity. Oh yeah; Wizardmon is a physically weak champion. Meanwhile, this guy's biceps are as big as his head. Of course it would go this way.
"Verge No! Get-get away from him!"
"There's no one to save you from me this time." Fugamon says, ignoring the crippled rookie's sobbing cries and raising his weapon in both meaty hand.
I-I guess this is it. Sparks I'm… Sorry.
"Heavy Swi-Argh" A hyper-focused beam of focused white light tears into champions eyes, forcing him to step back and cover his face out of sheer, blind reflex. His club falls from his hand and painfully bounces off your brutalized back.
"Candlemon Digivolve Tooooo!"

"Wizardmon!"
Sparks?!
"You will not touch my friend again." The wind-swept champion flatly states, his voice deadly calm. Fugamon snarls at him and raises up a foot to finish you off, but is interrupted as a sudden blast of lighting erupts from the head of Sparks staff and crashes into his chest and tosses the oni's body a dozen feet back, one large crater forming in the center of his torso. You struggle back to your feet just in time to see the bigger champion smash back first into yet another tree.
The one armed Wizardmon stoically walks forward and unleashes a second blast, plowing the Fugamon deeper into the woods.
"Stay back, Verge." Sparks nods, his voice sounding deeper and somehow rougher, but laced with something else. A chilling, tinge of alien stillness. "Mine fight has yet to end. It would trouble me greatly to see thee come to further harm"
Mine fight? Thee? Since… Since when did he talk this?
You stare wide eyed at the Wizardmon, openly gaping at him, but are interrupted as the Kotemon charges at him, weapon held high. Sparks doesn't look at the oncoming rookie, merely pointing the tip of his staff at him at point blank range.
No!
With a wince of pain, you force your broken body to stand yet again and dart forward, blocking his path, and lash out with a clenched fist, smashing the armored rookie with a wild haymaker. The force of your attack picks the lizard digimon up and sends him flying away to lay limply at the edge of the clearing.
Sparks ignores this and trains his weapon back on Fugamon, who's taken to using the trees for cover. Your friend doesn't seem to care about little things like cover, and fires off the spell once more, shouting it this time.
"Greater Sparkling Thunder!" It seems even more powerful this time, the stream cutting half a dozen thick trees in twain. Fugamon ducks the attack, barely managing to avoid getting hit and thrusts out an empty hand, tossing a ball of electric energy towards your newly evolved friend.
Sparkling thunder... that's...Gramps attack!
"Damp Cloud!" Sparks snorts in contempt and snaps his wrist left, somehow causing a small gust of wind to bloom into existence and push the attack off course. The main attack misses, but a few sparks still zap his arm, singeing his robe. If this hurts him at all he doesn't show it. Fugamon is already charging forth, and with another roar of "Evil Hurricane!" swings his club, summoning up an entire whirlwind and sending it flying towards your friend.
Sparks leaps left, dodging out of the way and fires again, but the older, stronger digimon blocks the flash of blue lighting on his club and presses on. You can see it already, him closing the distance and bringing his weapon down, smashing Sparks heads into tiny bits. No!
You break into another sprint, intercepting the slowed champion before he can fully close in, and lunging at his left knee. "Drill Spin!"
The metal weapon that is your nose tears into Fugamon flesh, digging a shallow furrow through his data and then glancing off his tougher bone. While it's not the crippling effect you initially wanted, the attack splits Fugamons attention away and most certainly hurt like heck. He stumbles, club off course, and Sparks leaps sideways before firing once again, sending blue lighting tearing through the orange digimon's other knee.
"Argh!" Unlike your own attack, this one pierces right through the center of his limb, burning off the rest of his leg.
"Heh. There's something funny about this." Sparks muses, calm tone at odds with his amused words. "But I cannot place why" Fugamon desperately moves his club up to block again, but the Wizardmon shifts his aim. Another pained roar snaps through the air as Fugamons left arm lands limply on the ground two feet away. You watch in horror as the former Candlemon systematically cripples the champion. By the time he's finished off his foe's club-wielding arm, the former Shamanmon is crying. However it's not for himself.
"Please!" he screams through the pain. "Delete me if you must, but spare Kotemon! He wasn't involved!"
"Ah, like how Count spared Fu?" Sparks questions with a tilt of his head. The now limbless Fugamon blinks up in confusion, then hesitantly nods.
He didn't spare Fu. Musyamon, he... Sparks, what are you saying?
"Verge." Your close friend gives you a nod, coming over to step beside you. "We shall do this together, as was promised. Do you wish to have the honor of taking his head?"
I… What?!
Your eye turns at the completely defenselessness champion, who by now has closed his eyes in the acceptance of deletion.
He brought Repulsa to the village. Flamemon died because of him!
You round on the champion, ignore the shrieking pain in your skull and rev up your drills fully prepared to end him. However something stops you:
"No. I won't let this happen, Gnaw. We can't just delete other digimon, it's wrong!"
"Wrong? Right? Blegh, you're just trying to force a stupid opinion on others!"
"Gnaw, we can't do this! Deleting a digimon takes away their everything. Any good they could do in the future, all of their experiences, their friendships. All that they could ever be. I won't let you do it!"
You step back at the memory, hesitating to start the grisly work of finishing him off...then snap up to attention as another thought projects itself into your mind.
"I was wrong! There exist those who do not deserve mercy! Now, with this power I can show you why you should never have changed my mind!"

Edit.
Mercy tempered with experience I don't need to give on wrath he doesn't even deserve that. Our Rage is for Repulsa and waiting it will no help us. Hell I want to get the wand of that Wizardmon too before he regains his consciousness.
