Yeah, the Coronamon and Lunamon lines seem to specialize in wide area attacks as a rule. I imagine Luna probably specced herself for being able to maximize that natural inclination towards wide area destruction, especially back when she and Thresh were a team - he's an absolute monster one on one, but as we saw in the Tournament Gone Horribly Wrong, he struggles against opponents who outnumber him. If my guess is right, Luna was the one who handled that type of situation. Of course, she obviously isn't helpless solo given how she wrecked Beat, but either way her thing isn't raw speed, Repulsa's is. Remember, they ARE both high level Ultimates with the capacity to become heavyweight grade Megas - it only makes sense that Luna can't match Repulsa in her specialty, especially considering her speed is the one thing Repulsa actually puts effort into training and neither of them have Flux Zone training.
Unfortunately for Repulsa, that's basically the only thing she trains as I understand it. Repulsa is otherwise kind of a lazy bum due to having gotten too used to being the big 'mon on campus for as long as she was as far as I'm aware.
If I remember right, the only real boosts she got in her other stats was yoinking the Beast Spirit of Wind. given that Flamon was able to pretty much walk all over her prior to Count turning up to wreck things.

Yeah, pretty much. That's why it's so easy for Verge to crush her - even in her speed, she doesn't put as much effort in as we do, and then we train every other stat just as hard on top of it. Luna, on the other hand, likely trains with far more dedication, and likely beats Repulsa in terms of stat total.

Unrelatedly: You kay, @drexal15 ? Haven't seen you in a bit.

28th Of Wood: *The Disciple's Date* Part 2: An Annoyance & Explosive Karting
[] As annoying as this interruption is... mayhaps he has a good reason for this? Attempt to ask RizeGreymon why he's trying to exhort your tourney invitation.
-[] if his reason isn't good, pinch his arm Cannon shut and continue watching the event.

===

Your eyes flick to the flying, half-metal dinosaur. The RizeGreymon's interruption is… annoying. Xia meanwhile ignores the threat, her eyes locked intensely on the dust cloud below, and either uncaring, or fully confident of your ability to deal with the interloper.

Naturally, your first instinct is to get violent. Deleting, or incapacitating the cyborg would be a sure way to deal with the situation. Moreover he seems fully willing to delete you if given the chance, him lacking the power necessary to carry out said threat notwithstanding.

However… you hold back from any direct action. As an Ultimate class digimon he should know better than to try threatening you, but perhaps there's a reason behind it.

And mayhaps making the jump to deletion offhand is too drastic. Aye, that should never be your first response Verge.

Instead you merely tilt your head, and speak.

"I would ask why you desire my invitation? You lack the power to compete in the Grand Spirit Tournament." Your curiosity earns a snort of derision from the RizeGreymon.

"Don't you know how much that thing's worth? I'd be set for life if I could sell it to Astamon or The Host." He explains with a mean-spirited leer. "Enough chit-chat you freak, speak again and I'll blow your head clean-"

He blinks, eyes drawn down to the barrel of his rifle-arm.

A rifle that has been pinched shut between your thumb and forefinger. Panicked surprise flares up from the flying dinosaur, and in that moment of shock his Trident-Revolver goes off.

Of course, during that half second you've already risen up and made to promptly toss him away at approximately mach five. Leaving your assailant's Trident arm to explode far from the meagre crowd and more importantly your Ward.

That should be warning enough.

It takes a second or so for the Ultimate's panicked cries of pain to reach you, but by then you've moved onto more important things.

"Dadmon, who was that?"

"An annoyance, and a fool." You grunt, turning back towards the race. Fortunately it doesn't look like you've missed much.

"Kay-kay. Ooh! Look look! Somemon's coming out of the smoke!"

Indeed, a Musyamon comes flying (metaphorically) out of the starting position, only to immediately swerve aside to avoid a blast of fire from behind. The Wizardmon responsible for said attack roars ahead of him-

-only for his kart to be rammed by a bellowing Nanimon. The Wizard digimon lets out a shrill yelp as his vehicle tips over, and only barely manages to bring it back under control. His eyes jerk over to Nanimon whom is reaching back with one hand to-

"Eeeew!"

I did not need to see that.

Nanimon tosses the pink squishy *weapon* backwards prompting both Wizardmon and Musyamon to quickly jerk their karts away.

Which leaves it to smack snout first into an unsuspecting Minotaurmon.
You can't help but wince in sympathy as the puppet digimon lets out a muffled scream clutches at his face in panic. In his frenzied movements the virus digimon topples his undersized kart, leaving both to tumble across the track before-

*Boom*

Exploding?!

"Ooh! That looks fun Dadmon! Can I try it?!"

"No." You answer bluntly, eyes still on the *race* which is more of a moving melee. "You lack hands." Your eyes flick to the Minotaurmon's still breathing form, he seems more or less unharmed… and even now a small swarm of Hagurumon are popping out of the ground to move his form off the track

"Aaaah." Ignoring Xia's whines, you get back to focusing on the *race*, so far the contestants have only made it roughly one sixth of the way around, their speed delayed if understandably by the fact that every driver seems to be trying to destroy anymon ahead of them.

Hrm, they're all giving those arrow markers a wide berth, why…

Your silent question is answered a moment later as Musyamon shoves a Hanumon, from the side onto one of said symbols. The kart's leftmost wheels hit first, immediately throwing the monkey digimon into a rapid, uncontrolled spin. Not a second later he crashes into the track's edge, and immediately explodes.

"Yaaaay!" The Vorvomon on your shoulder seems to enjoy the baffling show playing out below, but then again, she's always been easy to entertain. You on the other hand, are more baffled than anything else.

Spirits below, are… they made of explosives?

Hold. Boy hasn't left the smoke yet.

AN: I've returned again, for like the third time. Apology defenitely isn't enough for leaving you guys hanging for so long. It's been a mixture of anxiety, guilt, health issues and plenty of procrastination that's kept me from writing, but I've managed to get past it today. I'm going to be trying to write for an hour every day going forward. Big thanks to @TempestK and @radioxaxa for helping push me to write today.

Heh, so he really was just a fool, expected but kind of sad.

Now that stinger about Deimos... that's got me wondering. Could someone have tried to sabotage him worse than the rest of the competition? If so, who? The Gloaming for how he embarrassed Luna's squire? The Host to remove more strong competition? Maybe even... Ciel!?

It was his date whom thinks he's part of the Olympus group.

Anyways it's nice to see you back at it Drex!!!

Symbols.

Changing it into "a rapid, uncontrolled spin" reads better.
Spirits blow, are… they made of explosives?
Below.

Of all the things the digimon decided to play straight instead of cribbing from mariokart- it's what happens when you unevenly accelerate a vehicle? How horrifying.

28th Of Wood: *The Disciple's Date* Part 3: Stage Hazards

Perturbed by your disciplie's lack of participation, you give a quick check with your esoteric senses, searching for his familiar spirit signature. After a moment's observation you find that… he is indeed still within the slowly dissipating smoke cloud, albeit near its edge. It's just that he's moving at the pace of a particularly slow Numemon.

Xia lets out another cheer from your pauldron as a BlackTailmon leaps off her kart and smashes into a Flamewizardmon paw-first, knocking him off his ride with a scream. You're… dubious on whether commandeering another mon's kart like that is against the rules, but then again given how much of a mess this *race* is… well it's probably allowed. And even if it wasn't no mon seems to care.

When *Boy* does emerge from the smog, it's still at the figurative speed of a crawl. To your surprise *C* is at his side, matching his speed exactly, while appearing to talk him through how to operate the shoddy vehicle. They're too far away for you to make out an exact conservation, but you recognize the posture of a mon following orders.

That and your blushing student's aura is brimming with embarrassment in time to the *Witchmon's* giggles.

"Dadmon! Dadmon look!" Xia's excited chirping brings your attention back to the race proper where-

Those Hagurumon are dropping bombs onto the track.

You observe blankly as the many racers halt their attempts to explode each other in favor of dodging the onslaught of sparkling black bombs. The Wizardmon whom you'd previously seen take the lead manages to make it halfway through the bombarded stretch before being caught in the edge of a blast.

I see, it is merely another *hazard*...

He barely has time to scream in panic before his kart flips over and smashes full speed into the ride of a Dinohumon. Your ward lets out a wild cheer as collision causes yet another explosion.

Are… their karts literal bombs?

For a track seemingly made up of *dirt* the surface proves surprisingly resilient to being repeatedly struck by the equivalent of a Commandramon's grenades. Your guess is either some sort of artificial material that merely looks like dirt, or reinforcement via some form of enchantment.

Your musing fall away as the racers emerge from the track's first strip and begin slowing down into a sharp right turn. Musyamon's back in the lead and begins accelerating out of the curve, but suddenly slams on the breaks to-

-those are buzzsaws. Three rows of buzz saws just… sticking up out of the ground.

The Demon-Man only barely manages to weave in between the first row of enormous spinning metal blades. Unfortunately the Mojyamon behind him isn't so skilled, flubbing his turn and clipping one saw. You hear an even number of groans and cheers as he topples out of the ensuing explosion and lands on a saw in the second row. Expecting him to meet a terrible fate you tense up and are halfway out of your seat before he makes contact with the deadly trap.

All thoughts of saving him however end abruptly as the Champion hits and *merely* suffers from having a sizeable amount of fur yanked free from his body. You do however wince in sympathy from his pain. Even if his life isn't in danger, that really does hurt a great deal.

BlackTailmon takes the lead next, accelerating past the more cautious Musyamon as they approach a series of three minor hills. You wait for them to… explode or something, but the racers manage to go up, then down the first two landmarks without trouble. It's only after they crest the third and steepest hill that bunches of spikes begin to pop out of the ground, seemingly at random.

Musyamon manages to draw his blade and thrust it into the track, bouncing him over the next set of obstacles. BlackTailmon meanwhile relies more on agility and prediction, swerving inbetween the spikes-until Nanimon nails her with another mushy pink projectile. You can hear the villainous virus' laughs as his fellow racer panics and runs straight into a row of spikes.

What's most surprising to you (well aside from anymon willingly participating in this farce) is that despite losing a half dozen racers, the remaining mon all appear motivated to catch up and take the lead for themselves. A blue Coredramon accelerates up the last hill and instead of just going over normally, spreads his wings and glides over the spikes. Just behind him an Ogremon bulls through the obstacles head on with the club, leaning forward to pound the metal back down with his club.

And a fish digmon with arms…

Yes, the Manbomon blows out a bubbles, rears back on his kart to hit it underside first and bounces up over a patch of spikes that would have spelt his doom.

Indeed, despite their numerous losses morale is still high and… you suppose this has been mildly entertaining to you. Unlike Xia's who's practically been cheering non-stop.

Hold Verge! That power

Your eyes snap back to the course's start, where *C* is giggling… no. Not not giggling or laughing, or guffawing, she's madly cackling so hard that your student is leaning away in trepidation. The *Witchmon's* eyes flash silver for a brief moment, locking onto the race's leader and...

What is that sound?

===AN: Here's the snippet for today. Tomorrow should cover this race's end and get into some plot stuff. Hope you all enjoyed this.

Does he recognize her power some way? Perhaps because he's felt it before? Like... with his mother. And also himself.

Digimon Mario cart is now 80% as dangerous as the real Mario cart! Neat! Wonder if they have a big boy version for us to try this looks fun

Also Deimos's date is acting up now. We're nearby so I doubt she can go too far. Deimos can defend himself and we can get Xia into the fight quickly so she can help out.

We should stay out of things unless absolutely necessary.

Capitalize the W in FlameWizardmon.

28th Of Wood: *The Disciple's Date* Part 3: A Wheal Ringer

*C*'s aura flares only momentarily before fading again, but in that tenth of a second her energy proves unmistakable. Malkimon's, or rather a power nearly identical to the Witch Mega's own. And in turn a power, so similar to your own.

That… she can't be Malkimon…

Whilst you've paused in shock, a faintly blue whirlwind has roared to life around the *Witchmon's* kart, swirling in a pattern your ears can only describe as melodical. And what's more… your ears twitch, struggling to make out the other noise, something simultaneously radiant yet only barely audible.

She's… humming, something?

Suddenly the cheshire-grinned womon's kart is thrown forwards, launching down the track at speeds approaching the sound barrier. You half expect the shoddy vehicle to go out of control the moment it touches back down, but instead burst of magic wears off *C* manages to calmly take control and steer it… right into the first arrow marker.

The magical trap seizes her kart and immediately sends it skipping down the track, at even greater speeds than even her spell. Your disciples *date* comes roaring into the bomb-field at clearly uncontrollable speeds, and to your shock the heightened momentum lets her simply wizz past most of the falling hazards before they can explode. Only a single bomb at the far end manages to fall in a path to intercept her.

For a moment it looks as if the explosive is going to crash into her, however at the last second before impact her broom sweeps up and around in a crescent, redirecting the bomb back up and away without so much as looking at the offending hazard.

… that wasn't the technique of a magician.

You watch with narrowed eyes as the womon hits another arrow, then immediately thrusts her broom into the ground, bouncing it over the buzz saws. Even as she lands the *witch* slams down on her and turns into the next boost. What by all right should have seen her flip over and explode instead becomes a smoothly controlled drift around the first turn.

That… has to be some form of magic.

The entire thing reminds you remarkably of *Boy's* first tournament. His opponents had never stood a chance from the beginning. And it seems the same thing applies to the racers here.

In the time in which *C* has covered more than half the course, the other racers have only made it to the next obstacle in line. And while they struggle to navigate through the clump of boulders, she's still chaining boosts from arrow to arrow as if the hazards are merely an advanced form of shortcut.

She catches up with the racing pack's rearmost members shortly thereafter, accelerating off the first hill at full speed, then bouncing off the head of a very surprised Dinohumon. While the unfortunate reptile crashes and burns *C* manages to circumvent the spikes entirely.

Musyamon approaches the final obstacle a good several meters ahead of any runners up, aura full of confidence as he soars up the ramp. He doesn't notice *C* smiling madly at him, or more importantly, the bomb she'd previosuly redirected smacking down on his kart.

How did-she had to have predicted where he'd be…

Xia lets out a wild series of cheers, as the swordsmon tumbles free from the wreckage of his kart. This time however you share the Rock-Dragon's sentiment. The kind of predictive ability just displayed was… most impressive.

"I've changed my mind Dadmon! Xia thinks she's cool! Super cool!"

Now fully aware that the *Witchmon* is going to take the lead (and easily at that) your eyes fall back to your disciple. Unlike his date, *Boy* has chosen to advance at a less suicidal speed, and is even now weaving through the bomb field at a steady, cautious pace. His progress is efficient and logical, as expected of his Aegiomon form. Doubtlessly his Ultimate self would have tried to bull his way forward and gotten his vehicle destroyed within seconds.

By the time your attention is back on *C*, she's already cleared the jump and is advancing upon the current frontrunner. Nanimon takes a quick look back, then pulls out another… projectile. Even as he tosses it your disciple's date sweeps out her broom again, this time launching a spray of water that intercepts the pink mushy substance and carries it into the back wheels of Nanimon's kart.

Nanimon loses control as his gummed up wheels seize, spiraling out of control and crashing into the coredramon with an enraged scream. Naturally, both explode upon contact.

Spirits below, how has her Kart not suffered the same fate?

*C* makes the first lap a few seconds later, and then in a surprising move, pulls to the side and slows down, letting the main pack roar past without a struggle. Her attention locks onto your student, whom is only now managing to get past the Buzz Saws.

Judging by his current pace it's clear that he's going to get lapped, and relatively soon at that.

That prediction turns into a reality just before the series of hills, where *Boy* has to fend off the racing pack as they zoom past him. Your student dodges bubbles, disperses fireballs with his fleece technique, but still ends up having one of his back wheels knocked off by an Ogremon's club. You watch with disappointment as he goes into a spin, face apanick as he struggles to regain control.

"Zyahaha! Dadmon he's about to go boom!"

Your disciple lets out a frustrated shout as his kart tips over, then seems to remember his training. A quick shove against the air reverses his catastrophic path, and sets his kart down back on all four-er now three wheels. Xia lets out a disappointed whine at that, which causes you to hold back a low chuckle.

Of course, now that one of his wheels is gone, there's little hope for your disciple to finish even a single lap. The final obstacle in particular requires full acceleration to make the jump.

So it's a surprise, both to you and the God-Man when *C* blitzes past and yoinks him free from his seat. *Boy's* yelp of fear ends abruptly as he lands behind his date, quickly turning into a blush as the mad *witch* lets out a teasing remark.

He flinches, coughs, and then a dozen seconds later, leaps off and punches Ogremon straight off his kart. Your disciple hastily takes control of the antagonist digimon's vehicle, whereas *C* calmly slows down and begins to talk him through the course.

Both seem oblivious to the fact that they're letting the remaining racers get a lap ahead of them. In fact the *Witchmon* remains perfectly calm… no her malicious cackles are anything but calm, but she seems confident about winning for some reason.

By the time they've made it back around, the other racers are all nearing the final obstacle on their lap. Indeed, victory appears to be within the grasp of none other than Manbomon.

That is until Deimos and *C* make it to the bomb obstacle. Xia lets out a disappointed huff, glowering at the pair and clearly not understanding what's about to happen.

The *Witchmon* begins to hum again, broom spinning inbetween her claws. More teal wind gathers across the focus with every passing moment, eventually growing into a miniature tornado as they enter the bomb field.

"Zeeheehee!" And with a final, maddened laugh she casts the strangle melodic spell.

A localized storm blows through the hazard, sweeping up dozens of the low-powered explosives and carrying them directly towards the final obstacle. Where the pack of racers, going up the narrow ramp… have little room to maneuver.

You wince at the (figurative) slaughter. Xia breaks off into controlled laughter.

Needless to say… *C* and Deimos are the only mons to finish the third lap.

===AN: Race is done! Next update will be the plot stuff about C!
