Hmm, getting kinda samey, huh? Makes me worried for when things do start changing.

This is what makes me nervous.

I'm going to edit the vote but I won't keep reposting it unless significant changes occur.

I gotta ask at this point whether they're using the same railgun as last time, or if they're making a 3rd one. TBH, probably not a problem, because making a 2nd one made sense last time because it was a 'one for me, one for you' deal, so using the same one would just make sense this time. Still, I'm paranoid, so I'm pointing it out.

From the way it's been described, I figured that they keep making a new railgun each time and giving the old one to Lancelot so the overall firepower is increasing. Though looking at the last chapter, it looks like he only took over the first one. I'm going to add to the vote that he takes over a new railgun each turn. Eventually he'll have a damn battery of these.

Is Lancelot unable to attack himself while using the missiles and stuff? If you're projecting swords for Lancelot to use, then I would assume he can, which brings me to the next point of asking why Lancelot doesn't have a line saying he will attack with said swords.

I don't know if Lancelot can do both walpurgisnacht and familiars. I think it falls under not being reasonable. The reason I'm having Archer project swords is so if the familiars start to overwhelm/multiple, Lancelot can enter the fray without having to wait for those to be projected so as to be effective. Since the familiars are mostly on the handled side of things, I'd like to keep using his range attacks.

Though this gets probably into a meta/power gaming aspect that I do NOT want which is if we attack with a reasonable force we break a bar each turn then we would turn Lancelot onto the familiars for higher action economy efficiency. Given that the big threat is Walpurgisnacht, I think it'd be safe to say that's what everyone is currently focused on at this time. I'm just going to hope that if we output enough that eventually we will have broken through two bars in one turn.

Kyouko can make chains too, yes? Maybe you could mention her using those?

I think it's mostly defen-

Oh hey, SVS already got a response. Huh.

You know, I never thought it would take losing my most prolific contributor to get the kind of audience participation I'd always wanted. You get what you wish for, I guess.

To be fair, I was going to be active, perhaps not THIS active, but active when I caught up. I had been waiting for him to make a vote (for the first new chapter that came out after I got to current) to see if I could add anything but then he sorta vanished?

Absolutely no idea. We had gotten into a bit of a spat the day before, but once that was over he was back to posting as usual. Then my Tuesday update went live, he checked it out early Wednesday morning without saying anything or leaving a like, then nothing. It's not even like he was ghosting me, specificallly- He had his own quest he was working on and he vanished on his own players too. So, I really don't know what happened, but I'm worried.

I thoroughly love this quest, and actually would love if there is a sequel. I know that there is a lack of participants in general, but I would try my best to be an active poster. I might not be able to make the long votes, but I WILL make suggestions (even if they are inane) for just about every chapter. Though, you would just have to take my word for it.

I really wasn't kidding ahaha

Yeah, I noticed that. I was going to start reading his quest as well. I know he's probably alright from the fact he is still active on SB. If he's not checked in by tomorrow, I'll probably go make an account to go poke him and see if everything is okay.

As you know, I'm a lurker by nature. If this quest was more popular, you probably wouldn't see me here. Applies to nearly all the quests I read. Unless it has a small audience and thus requires more votes, I'm probably just gonna sit in the corner.

I know you're gonna yell at me again for saying that, and you'd be in the right.
he is still active on SB
What.

If I wasn't so meek and afraid of being insensitive, I would send a message to him right now.

I'm not going to yell at you. By now, I know that's a wasted effort on my part. But I will say that if you think asking someone you've known and worked alongside for the better part of two years how they're doing and what's up is insensitive, then I think you should consider moving to Canada, eh, because you're obviously too polite to function in non-Canadian society.

It does sound silly, huh?

I'm not sure how to put it. I'm, uhh... paranoid? I'm worried I'll say something wrong from my lack of social skills. I know it's my low ego, but I can't help myself.

I'm not sure I even believe what I'm saying to justify myself, because looking back at this, I don't really have memories of this happening (I am forgetful). There's just something that makes me worried.

I have a question, and it's how we do mana strain/soul gem corruption occurs.

Kirika is the only one that we've seen get physically harmed (as far as I can tell) from her servant. Everyone else just seems to go pale. Which is weird to me; in fact, I was operating under the impression that when the servant starts pulling mana from their master, it acts much like a soul gem darkening. Which should just throw negative emotions instead of physical harm. Are the mechanics of mana being given to Archer different from then when Homura uses timestop?

As it stands from the revised vote, I don't think I have much to add. I specified I'm going to have Lancelot grabbing more railguns from Oriko and Mami, simply for the fact that if we are going to have him be our artillery we might as well go to the max with it. That being said... I'm at an impasse when it comes to what we should do with him.

If we keep him as artillery, then he is going to keep straining Kirika. If we have him go to familiar combat, he'd probably be really effective, more so then Assassin I'd wager. He's a damn blender of swords. I personally think him staying as artillery is better since we have it under control, but anyone else's thoughts on it would be good.

Yes, it does. I'll be sending your complimentary maple syrup to your new address in Saskatchewan in a couple of weeks.

I'm basing my depiction of extreme Soul Gem stress on Sayaka shortly before she witched out. Towards the end, she was looking pretty pallid herself, if you'll recall, and based on the evidence I see both in-series and in the PSP game I'm assuming this is because we're seeing her bodily systems shutting down as her soul attempts to route as much mana as possible towards keeping her from witching out, at the expense of everything else. Kirika, on account of having such a small pool of mana, is much more susceptible to this sort of backlash than the other girls are, and we would see them suffering similarly adverse effects if they let their Soul Gems get too low.

However, you'll recall that all of the times we see Kirika actually being harmed by this backlash are when she's commanding Berserker to go above and beyond what her body is capable of- Whether it's having him do anything strenuous while her body is routing all its mana towards repairing her legs, or having him use Arondight when she's not sitting at a full tank. Aside from that, as long as she keeps on top of her limits the worst she'll got is a pallid complexion, like any of the other girls would get at comparable levels of strain.

Hm. Can we use Kyoko's chains to herd the familiars into a kill zone for Serenity?

Also, no, worrying about E. is normal, at least for me.

Hm. Can we use Kyoko's chains to herd the familiars into a kill zone for Serenity?
We can, but the current vote is already fairly bloated as is. In fact, I'd prefer to see it trimmed down, especially cutting a lot of the secondary actions. Remember what I said about economy of action and being mindful of how much each person can reasonably accomplish within one "turn." If we want Kyouko to corral familiars, she'll be doing that this turn instead of attacking.

You know, I never thought it would take losing my most prolific contributor to get the kind of audience participation I'd always wanted. You get what you wish for, I guess.
Or so I thought, because while audience participation is at an all-time high, votes are still needed desperately. So come on everyone.

Day 47 Chapter 5
[X] Jefardi

For just a moment, everything seemed to be going so well for your team. Assassin had just taken down two familiars with the short swords Archer gave her, and for all you've seen they actually appear to be staying down this time. So of course, it was only a matter of time before something came along to spoil it. That malevolent chorus of laughter rings out as once again Walpurgisnacht emerges from the ruin of your allies' strikes unharmed, and with a sickening sound wrenches an entire city block into the air. Smaller buildings fall immediately, smashing to pieces everything in their path on the way down, leaving only the largest angling right for you.

That's a lot of buildings.

"Incoming!"

"Saber!"

"Caster!"

The defensive line springs into action immediately. Saber's blue-shining blade swings, sending torrents of water into the advancing buildings. Her jet streams connect, tearing the skyscrapers asunder in a shower of concrete, glass, and steel. Next up is Caster, who has a battery of swords at the ready from his golden portals to intercept the largest pieces as they fall, before they have a chance to fall onto anyone's head.

"Ah, shit!" Your head swivels as you hear Kyouko cry out in pain. Shards of glass dig deep into her back and shoulders, while a piece of fallen rebar has pierced her through the shoulder. The redhead struggles to stand, as both she and Kirika - who herself appears to have only just narrowly avoided the same fate - throw up a layer of protective chain lattices around her perimeter. "Hey, Big White!" she cries out. "Get this shit outta me, will ya?"

"I'll be there in just a moment, Sakura-san!" Mikuni Oriko calls back. She and Tomoe-san are preparing for another barrage against Walpurgisnacht. "Just hold on for a few seconds longer!"

"Whatever. Don't mind me dying over here or nothing."

You know Kyouko won't die from those injuries; she'll be in pain, for sure, and you won't hear the end of it until she's been healed up, but you're confident she can last the few seconds longer Mikuni Oriko has requested. But for those few seconds, you'll need someone to take over not just Kyouko's role in combating the enemy familiars, but Nagatsuki Miyuki's role as well, as she's broken off her aggressive saber-led push into enemy territory to provide an additional layer of defense to the downed Kyouko. Fire and electricity snap at approaching familiars with the fall of her pistol's hammer, and as soon as the sword of light has retracted from its lengthy blow against Walpurgisnacht, you ask McRemitz-san "Do you think you could use one of those short swords if Archer gave you one?" One that happens to be available as soon as the words leave your mouth. Damn your dad is good.

"An Azoth dagger?" A what? "Sorry; I'm better at disarming bladed opponents than I am at using a blade myself, actually," she says. The blade of light leaps from her arm, skewering through the head of a nearby familiar. "But I can take over for Sakura if she needs a moment, if that's what you're asking."

High above your head, the battle against Walpurgisnacht continues. Your eyes can barely follow Rider as his chariot screams across the sky, weaving in and out of range of Walpurgisnacht's flames as he and McRemitz-san's blue-clad Lancer make repeated strikes against the floating fortress of a witch, which now is listing quite heavily; it looks to have completed about half the necessary rotation to completely right its upside-down stance. The battle against Walpurgisnacht has only ever lasted this long once before, but that time Madoka was there to strike the witch down before it could unleash whatever doom awaits you. You hope the same will hold true this time.

"Troias Tragōidia!"

"Gáe Bolg!"

"You should cleanse yourself," you say to Kyouko. After supporting several consecutive uses of her servant's Noble Phantasm, combined with the injuries she's just suffered, you can't imagine that her Soul Gem is in any sort of good shape. With one of her arms useless until the rebar is removed and her shoulder is patched up, fighting is out of the question, so she wisely takes the moment to cleanse her Soul Gem of impurities. You turn to McRemitz-san and ask her "What about you? How are you holding up after everything your Lancer's done?"

"I'm still doing fine," McRemitz-san replies. Her fighting form is an odd mixture of graceful and bullish; she moves like a trained gymnast, but her strikes are closer in ferocity to a silverback gorilla, and the ground shatters under the force of her every blow against her chosen foes. "Actually, I haven't had a fight this good in a long time."

"And that sword of yours?"

"Takes almost nothing out of me to use."

You'll hold her to that; but there's someone else whom you won't hold to that, someone who needs to cleanse themselves as soon as possible. "Clean yourself!" you call out to Kirika, who under the strain of the prolonged battle has grown a deathly pale, her movements sloppy and her face slick with sweat. Clawed chains spear through the form of a nearby familiar, and you loose a volley of ice arrows between the fallen familiar and your big sister. "Now!"

Kirika does as you instruct, taking the precious few moments your arrows have bought her to cleanse her Soul Gem. You know she came into this battle topped off with additional mana transferred to her by Mikuni Oriko, but you don't know how cleansing her Soul Gem will impact that additional store. You hope it remains; knowing how paltry her mana reserves are, she'll need all the help she can get to survive.

Her servant is hardly any help in that regard; Berserker is a glutton, and the more artillery Tomoe-san and Mikuni Oriko give to him, the more mana he needs to expend keeping everything operating; which in turn reflects back on the amount of mana he takes from his master. "Tiro..."

"-fulmine!"

Another twin bursts of golden light fire off from Tomoe-san and Mikuni Oriko's combined attack, joined by their counterparts of swirling black and crimson as Berserker fires off his own captured sets of artillery. Unlike your big sister or Kyouko, distracted as they are by the thick of battle against the familiars, Tomoe-san and Mikuni Oriko have the enviable ability to take a moment's breather each time they fire, as Tomoe-san is forced to conjure a new Tiro Finale each time the single-shot cannon has fired. In those precious few seconds, they have all the time in the world, comparatively, to check the clarity of their Soul Gems and act accordingly.

"Brynhildr Romantia!"

"Caladbolg!"

You don't have to say anything at all to remind them to cleanse themselves, and the pair are looking rather well off despite the toll the battle must be taking on them. You would envy their position, if envy were a luxury you could afford to have in this battle.

The overall tide of battle has taken a downward track with Kyouko's wounding, and despite keeping your eyes peeled when you can you've yet to see any openings to be exploited against Walpurgisnacht. But at least that's another two familiars Assassin has managed to put down. The enemy horde has finally fallen below twenty in number; you don't feel comfortable saying you have only nineteen familiars to deal with, but it's better than what you started with.

So of course there's no way it could last; and here comes another city block.

I know if I say anything in relief I'll just be jinxing it, but still. Will start to formulate a vote in the morning!

Also sayaka would probably find the sight of this to be pretty darn cool.
