"Freyja - Venus!"
At once, Lancer's circle of runes awake, and her attack is launched. Glowing a deep blue like the hottest heart of the forge, her runes come together to form a massive clump of flaming rock which is without a spell or word of command sent hurtling towards
Walpurgisnacht. At the same time, Lancer charges, her massive spear and her body completely wreathed in flames and glowing blue and silver. Her body looks like a piece of pottery, broken but repaired with silver filling in the gaps.
"Farewell, master," you can faintly hear Lancer saying over the roaring inferno that is her twin attacks.
If time were moving, you're sure the fireworks would be beautiful. But time must move, if only for a moment, so that the rest of your team's attacks are not engulfed in the violent inferno left in the wake of Lancer's sacrifice. Colour returns to your world of infinite swords, and soon the orange sky is bathed in a brilliant blue as Lancer's flames spread across the endless horizon. Beside her master, Saber falls to her knees, and her eyes light up as the fireworks fall.
"I can't remember the last time I saw fireworks this beautiful," she says, her body fading as the loss of her spiritual core finally catches up with the rest of her. "I'm glad this was the last thing I got to see, master. You've really made my stay a fun one..."
And then there were two.
Neither you, Mikuni, Nagatsuki, nor anyone else have time to mourn the losses of Lancer and Saber. You've still got to win this fight before those girls will have the chance to mourn their losses. The flow of time ceases once more, and the brilliant blue light of Lancer's sacrifice returns to the washed-out grey of frozen time.
"How much longer can you keep this up?"
"Probably not for much longer," Homura replies.
"There's so much corruption in the air that it's really taking its toll on my ability to stop time for longer increments. I'd be fine normally, I think, but Walpurgisnacht is able to tear holes in your Reality Marble so easily and the corruption seeps in no matter what you do."
"So, we should be planning for how to proceed once you're no longer able to sustain timestop and my Unlimited Blade Works falls." At that point, you aren't even sure what else can be done.
You may have to resort to what Caster told you to do that day on the roof. "I have an idea, but it's going to depend on whether you're able to stomach using your big attack or not."
Even as an echo inside your head, you can hear how ragged Homura's breathing has become from the endeavour of sustaining timestop, even staggered timestop, for as long as she has. So it comes as a surprise to you when she says
"I'll do my best. I've still got enough Grief Seeds to make an attack like that possible."
"Don't stress yourself if you don't think you can."
You know Homura is better than that, and you trust her to take care of herself to the point where you feel comfortable not worrying about her. You'll still worry, of course; any good father would worry for their daughter, but you won't let your worries get in the way of the task at hand.
Not that you need a clear mind to focus on the task at hand, either. Here inside the Unlimited Blade Works, your thoughts are made real, and swords of infinite construction require little more than a nudge before they've sprung to life, joining with the similarly endless wave of swords and golden Mystic Codes from Caster's Gate of Babylon. Together, the two of you will buy as much time as Homura's teammates need to make ready their own attacks.
Then again, with time frozen,
buying them time is hardly something you need to be concerned with. For as long as Homura's Soul Gem holds, they have as much time as they require. You see Mikuni giving additional Command Seals to Tomoe; they must be planning something.
Good; keep Mikuni's thoughts on the here and now, and not on the servant she's just lost.
"Tiro..."
"-fulmine!"
Together, they launch their attack, and twin bursts of golden artillery join in with the endless waves of swords which you and Caster have sent against
Walpurgisnacht. Joining them is Sakura, launching her massive spear high. With its point of origin still held tight in her grasp, Sakura's spear is the only attack to actually make its mark; the attacks of you, Caster, Tomoe, and Mikuni all fall short of reaching
Walpurgisnacht before the frozen time takes them, turning the bursts of brilliant gold into a wall of grey until time has resumed.
But time does resume. Homura falls to her knees gasping for breath, and as Nagatsuki helps her to cleanse her Soul Gem, you can do nothing but watch as Walpurgisnacht's laser beams tear your Unlimited Blade Works to shreds. You smile; the joke is on
Walpurgisnacht. Time may have returned the witch's ability to fire back, but it's also freed your team's attacks from the limbo of frozen time, and in an instant
Walpurgisnacht i struck by several dozen attacks all at once. "Now, Caster, use my Command Seals and unleash your ultimate Noble Phantasm a second time!"
She gives the order as soon as
Walpurgisnacht's barrage of ice and buildings falls silent, and three flashes of crimson erupt from the back of Tomoe's hand. Ea, which hasn't left the King's hand since it was called upon, draws in the storm winds once again as its three rings spin. "Very well, master," Caster says as he raises Ea high above his head. "If your eyes are so greedy as to demand they see the star of creation a second time, then so be it!"
"Enûma Eliš!"
The swirling vortex of the star of creation tears the air to shreds as it races towards
Walpurgisnacht. The meeting of the vacuum wave and the target creates a spectacular explosion, unrivaled except by the previous use of the magnificent weapon. But, true to form,
Walpurgisnacht remains in the aftermath of the attack.
A final
"Claíomh Solais!" from McRemitz signals her time to withdraw, and she asks "Is there anything else I can do where I won't get in the way?"
"Make sure everyone made it to the shelters safely," Homura says as she recovers from her ordeal. "If you see anyone that's outside where they shouldn't be, turn them away and make sure they get to shelter." McRemitz salutes Homura with her silver arm, taking her servant and withdrawing to her new assignment, and with an
"I'm ready," from Homura, you know it's time.
You chant the first line of your mantra,
"I am the bone of my sword," and call upon the spear of the Irish warrior-king Fionn mac Cumhaill. You ready the weapon in your hands, as Homura draws back the string of her bow with an arrow just for this. The two of you nod to one another, and you activate the weapon by calling on its true name;
"Mac an Luin!"
"Finitora Freccia!"
The two attacks couldn't be more perfect for each other. Upon calling out its true name, Mac an Luin creates a powerful surge of water, which Homura's final arrow can take perfect advantage of, drawing in the water to create even more frozen arrows than it would have normally. The storm of arrows surge forward, multiplying unchecked as
Walpurgisnacht's flame is unable to stem the tide racing towards it. The arrows collide with the target, and in a brilliant flash of blue the massive black gear is frozen over in a thick sheet of ice.
However, just as it was with the witch of the Black Mountain, even being frozen over isn't enough to stop
Walpurgisnacht. The temperature in the air rises, steal rolls off of the frozen black gear, and the thunderous crack of breaking ice echoes over the ruined city skyline as
Walpurgisnacht frees itself. Sheets of ice fall, joined by sheets of steel and concrete as the witch resumes its attack.
It's very fortunate that your team has a good compliment of defenders. Tomoe opens fire with an artillery barrage, softening the falling ice and buildings up for Sakura and Mikuni to call on a variety of barriers to block the incoming debris. Mikuni's lattice of barriers is old hat for you, but Sakura surprises you by calling on a spear formation to break the falling debris.
Unfortunately, among the falling debris there is one attack which their teamwork cannot hope to stop. Kirika makes her mad dash to protect who she can, but one of the beams is heading straight for Caster. But rather than defend against it, Caster instead welcomes the attack;
and then there was one.
