puts on tinfoil hat

Svs asked enetious to leave for more user participation

which is what I would have done
Let's assume that's the truth, for a moment; and I asked Enetious to leave in order to engender greater player participation. What assurance did I have that I would get the participation I wanted from his absence? Assume I asked him to leave, but didn't get the participation I was hoping for. What then? Remember, after a few days of Enetious vanishing I had to ping everyone to try and drum up whatever contributions and votes I could. If I asked Enetious to leave to gain greater user participation, you could say my ploy worked; but without my having cajoled everyone else into contribution it wouldn't have, and there's no way I could have known the outcome beforehand.

For instance, I (or Swedish15)could be a alter ego of Enetious', that is running under SVS's direction in order to force players to interact, which- I did only show right when Enetious made a grand total of two more posts before "disappearing" (and Swedish15 only a few posts earlier).

Thats like next level tin hat theory. It would allow some manipulation of the group whole also keeping your bases covered- Enetious could then 'return' if the experiment failed.

Me becoming "busy with work" could just be adjustments being made to withdraw the control variable and see how the readers would interact without a guiding force.

Full tin hat theory, but could we go even further?

Day 47 Chapter 19
[X] Jefardi

Buildings, fire, and ruinous light stare you down, as Walpurgisnacht readies for its next attack. At this point, you aren't sure that victory is even possible anymore. Walpurgisnacht was struck by a twice-Command Seal-powered Enuma Elish, and yet the witch is still standing; er, hovering in place, you suppose would be the better term for it. True, the gargantuan witch has been reduced to just the largest central gear from what had once been a complete body, but the fact that the damn thing wasn't completely destroyed by Caster's attack is a testament to its durability.

One of Walpurgisnacht's blasts strikes the Book of Earth fortification; unintentionally, it appears that the placement of the beams is completely random, as none of the other bears fired at the same time were directly particularly towards you, Caster, Lancer, or the team of McRemitz and her servant. You all take appropriate action, of course, but it doesn't appear that Walpurgisnacht can actually target anything particular with its blasts.

Its buildings, on the other hand, are absolutely being thrown with malicious intent, but fortunately your team has Caster, and soon joined by Saber as her fortification vanishes, to make quick work of the massed amounts of debris heading your way. "So, looks like things have gotten a lot worse since we last saw each other," Saber says, obliterating a falling building with a swing of her sword. "The lasers are new. I thought it could only do that when it was right-side up."

"Caster's attack appears to have broken it out of its routine," you say. "I don't know if we can expect anything routine from this fight anymore."

The girls soon enough return to their previous formations; Tomoe and Mikuni pair off and take turns blasting at Walpurgisnacht with their twin cannons.

"Tiro...

"-fulmine!"

Homura and Mikuni must have been conversing in private, because without prompting the latter says "No, I can't get a read on Walpurgisnacht's firing pattern at all! I don't think it has one! I think it's just firing randomly!" Her claim confirms Saber's own assertion; you hope Caster will fare better in attempting to scry some semblance of a pattern to Walpurgisnacht's firing. Otherwise, you're all just taking shots in the dark with respect to any attempt to dodging its attacks. Unless...

"Kirika! I need you over here!" you call out, much to her surprise. Kirika is beside you in an instant, and before she has a chance to ask what you need, you've called on Avalon and shoved it into her hands. "With Rider gone, you're now the fastest one out of us all. Use that to block Walpurgisnacht's lasers."

"It can do that? I thought it could just heal good, and stuff."

"There's a lot Avalon can do. Ultimate defense is within its purview as well. Take that, run around, and stick it between the lasers and whoever they're pointed at." You smile for the girl who would be your other daughter, once this is all over and you and Minako have a future together, gently patting her the way you've done for Homura countless times. "Make sure to keep your Soul Gem pointed in a safe direction; prioritise masters over servants if you need to make that call; and above all, stay safe. Your mom and I both love you."

"Right," Kirika says. "I won't let you down, dad."

Before it's hit you that Kirika just called you "dad" without it slipping out of her mouth unintentionally, that girl is off. You can't help but smile as she races off, her body a blur of black against the bleak destruction as she pushes her body to its limits with the same magecraft your own father once employed. Maybe you'll make an Emiya out of her yet.

You rejoin the fight just in time, drawing back your bow as several attacks streak over your head. A thrown "Gáe Bolg!" is joined by a massive spear from Kyouko, striking Walpurgisnacht in the front while a wall of gold opens up at the witch's back. In sequence, Walpurgisnacht is struck by both spears, which is immediately followed up by Caster, who launches an attack with an impressive wave of powerful Mystic Codes; and you can say that they're impressive because you can feel their power even from down here on the ground. He must be hitting that damned witch with a battery of EX-ranked Mystic Codes, or something. You loose your arrow, calling out the name of "Caladbolg!" just in time for your arrow to be joined by one equally as impressive from your daughter.

"Finitora Freccia!"

You first daughter, that is; the one that's also your master. Not the one running around playing whack-a-mole with Walpurgisnacht's lasers using Avalon as the mallet.

Caladbolg's power spiraling out of control as it joins Homura's arrow, and your two projectiles dance in tandem as the storm of hail grows in intensity. Thanks to Walpurgisnacht uprooting half the city and making a mess of the river and southern pier, there's more than enough water flooding the city's southern ruins for Homura's arrow to draw vapour from the atmosphere. It creates a tremendous hailstorm of replicating arrows as it climbs towards the target, striking Walpurgisnacht and throwing up a thick cloud of steam as ice meets the witch's fire.

"Saber, look out!"

Among the dozen or so blasts being fired at that immediate moment, one was pointed at Saber; the other, at Saber's master, and Kirika is placed into crisis. You know she and Nagatsuki don't particularly get along, but as the bespectacled girl is currently helping Homura cleanse her Soul Gem after that last attack, you know she didn't have any other choice.

You make sure not to look away as Saber goes to meet her end fighting back against the blast that does her in, her sacrifice having given Lancer just enough time to envelop Walpurgisnacht inside the calamitous storm of another of her elemental bombs. Lancer's body glows blue and silver as she pushes her runes to their maximum, pulling back as she releases and allows the conflagration to envelop her target.

You'll take the moment Lancer's attack has given you to throw one more advantage out there for the team. You didn't get much from it last time, but hopefully now that Walpurgisnacht seems to be taking actual damage, even a few moments of the amount of firepower you can lend to the fight will make that difference.

"I am the bone of my sword"
"Steel is my body and fire is my blood"
"I have created over a thousand blades"
"Unknown to Death,"
"Nor known to Life."
"Have withstood pain to create many weapons"
"Yet, those hands will never hold anything"

"So as I pray, Unlimited Blade Works."
It's hardly the image of candy canes and lemon drops conjured by the smooth singing voice of Gene Wilder, but for the world of your imagination this desert of infinite swords will have to do. You don't know how long you'll be able to keep it up if those lasers Walpurgisnacht is firing have the same anti-world properties that the big one had, but the hope is that it'll be just enough to turn the tide of battle in favour of Homura's team.

There was a lot going on with this vote, particularly in the number of things it felt like we were wanting certain characters, Homura especially, do be doing in one turn. Despite what I've said previously about economy of action, I've tried to include as much as I can, but certain things either didn't fit the flow of the rest of the fight choreography or were too difficult to show from Archer's perspective.

Also, don't worry about Homura using Inguz. I'll make sure to use it when it's appropriate. You don't have to explicitly include it in the future.

Okay, so a few things that I'm pretty sure we discussed before:
1. Unlimited Blade Works. Use it to shoot a bunch of blades at the Walpy. This is obvious. Unless someone wants to do something specific with it, in which case I'm all ears.
2. Use a command seal to patch up UBW if it breaks.
3. That's all I can think of. What do from here?

Saber has Battle Continuation EX... she's dead that easy?
Battle Continuation only works if they have a body to continue battling with. Saber does not anymore. So yeah.

Naw battle continuation let's you continue after you get your heart ripped out. Doesnt let you survive being erased from existence

Lancer survives for like a few minutes taking a Gae Bolg to the spirit core with a rank A.

Righto, if anyone has some crazy plans for UBW, say them now. Because I'll be out of contact for about 20 hours then this thread will have my attention as if two weeks ago :p

Will write a vote within 20 hours.

Saber has Battle Continuation EX... she's dead that easy?

Saber Mussahi version of Battle Continuation EX is is not the 1up version of the normal Battle Continuation. Her version is noted for her willingness to do anything to improving her chance to surviveing a battle unlike King Hassan version which is literally tanking everything and still survive. Also Saber Mussahi entire body is erased, not even Battle Continuation EX can help you survive that.

So, UBW is up, for like a turn before Wally destabilizes it, and we're down a Saber, an Assassin, a Bersekrer, and a Rider.

What do we do now?

[X] TURN 19: WALPURGISNACHT - THE GEARS START COMING AND THEY DON'T STOP COMING
-[X] Offense
--[X] Archer: Keep up the blades. All of them. And don't stop.
--[X] Caster & Lancer: If there's an opening within Archer's onslaught, use the chance to fire more stuff at it.
-[X] Defense
--[X] Kirika: Keep doing what was done before. Save people if they're in danger and Time Accel if they can't be reached in time.
--[X] Homura: Mostly hunker down. If Unlimited Blade Works breaks, use a command seal to keep it going.
--[X] Everyone else: If someone thinks they can get a shot in, go for it; all damage that can be done should be done. If not, keep spread out, get ready to do some Dark Souls level dodging, and stay alive at all costs.

It's short and kinda dumb, but that's all I've got for now. A few ideas for UBW that I don't know if I should do or can do:
- Use the shields in UBW to form barricades for everyone to hide behind
- If mana and command seals allow, pull out something like Caliburn and make a big laser from it, and have the rest of the swords go around it while everyone gets their hits in.
- Surround Walpy with shields and fill in the cracks with blades a la Iron Maiden before she pulls out another World Destructor.

I'm reluctant to use Command Seals to try and keep UBW up, but that's mostly me having Final Battle Syndrome (just replace Ethers with Command Seals) and this is The Big Battle™ so we shouldn't be afraid to throw everything costly at Walpole. Ideas above aren't part of the vote yet because I don't know if they're good ideas and I wanted feedback before I put them in. If any part sucks, just tell me. I think it sucks, I just don't know what to do about it.

Dang, can't believe Saber got [DATA LOST] here too.

@SVS Bit of a silly question but how big are the World Destructiors being thrown at us?

I'm just going to step in and say no. Not yet.

People actually think like this? I thought everyone knew that you don't get to be champion of the Pokemon league without learning how to spam Full Restores.

About the size of an average adult's torso. For which we are very lucky on account of the full power version being 1/3km wide.

In Pokemon? Yeah. In other games, it's a bit of a paradox. If an item isn't able to be obtained on a regular basis or bought, then it becomes valuable enough that you're never really sure when to use it. As such, you hoard it even when you, indeed, have 85 ethers. Plus, a lot of bosses have a stupid 'haha lol that wasn't even my final form stupid loser' and pulls another bigger health bar out of it's butt, thus making you unsure about using a valuable item even when you really, desperately need it. Modern RPGs (mostly FromSoft ones) also make it so that item usage is permanent even when you reload, thus furthuring the problem. This is why I always sell Divine Blessings in Dark Souls. They just suck.

Any parallels in my rant with this battle are completely imaginary. You do a good job, SVS. Mostly the difference here is that Command Seals are supposed to be like that, meaning that even though their precise usage is annoying, it's a lot less frustrating because at least it's excusable and intended to have not busted out one at the right time.

Yeah, I'll be honest with you. I haven't played a new videogame since 2012. I have no idea what the fuck these developers are doing with their games nowadays.

--[X] Homura: Mostly hunker down. If Unlimited Blade Works breaks, use a command seal to keep it going.
Have Homura stop time, mami connect everyone together, grief speed spam to keep time stop up, and then whale on walp.

Except kirika, while she's in time stop she just wants for walp to adapt so she can stop laser beams again. Once walp adapts your plan works in it's entirety.

Problem with your theory, then, is that if you were an alter ego of Enetious, wouldn't you have been able to provide me with the Nasu-ese that I've needed at various points? That you haven't disproves your own theory, as does the fact that I already know what happens when there's no guiding force to direct my players- By and large, they do nothing, doubly so if I'm not prodding them to do things in the absence of said guiding force.

Your own theory disproves itself, Alex Jefardones. Now go back to telling us how I'm putting Grief in the water to turn the magical girls gay.
Have Homura stop time, mami connect everyone together, grief speed spam to keep time stop up, and then whale on walp.
Problem is, there's so much ambient Grief in the air that the toll for heavily mana-intense options is exponential. After a certain point, we're not only burning more Grief Seeds than it's worth to accomplish, but we're also taking on more Grief than we can cleanse. That's why I said before we could only reasonably sustain timestop for a turn at a time.
