Confringentur 2; a Madoka Magica / Fate/Stay Night sequel

She doesn't gain much in hair either. You're right this is weird.
Due to this discussion, I like to think that Ilya just went from dangerously rail-thin to fat, and her coat hides her overall weight.

Does mana have weight? Because that's the only thing I can think of to explain Illya's increase in weight despite her lack of a corresponding increase in height or girth.
Theoretically, her nature as a Homunculus means that a lot of her body might be partially malformed or unformed; this could actually explain why she makes a terrible physical fighter, when her skill in reinforcement and combat should make her at least semi-decent. In reality, I think this also be a metaphor, akin to this shit.

Due to this discussion, I like to think that Ilya just went from dangerously rail-thin to fat, and her coat hides her overall weight.
Not possible. There's a nude bathing scene in the UBW anime, and Illya is just as rail-thin as you'd expect her to be. She's not hiding a secret fat-person bod under that jacket. But trust me, before I remembered that bathing scene, I was thinking the same thing.

You're talking about teratomas, right? It's possible, but if Illya were hiding 24kg worth of teratomas under her skin, it would be visible because that's still more than twice her original mass, and I can't imagine just how hideous she'd look under the hood if she really were more teratoma than Illya.

That said, I think it's just an anime-ism that Illya and Kiritsugu look so un-alike. They've got very distinct character designs, which is good for recognition, but when you're trying to put onto the page "Has the same physical characteristics of all Einzbern homunculi" at the same time as "Has her father's eyes" you're going to be forced to lean one way or the other, and for the sake of making Illya recognisable, I think the former is more important than the latter. That said, it's not unreasonable to assume that Iri was talking about the shape of Illya's eyes; and if memory serves me, they are more pointed and angular than Iri's eyes; even in the image you sent me, I can see some slight resemblance in the pointed corners of their eyes. I wouldn't guess they were related if I didn't already know, but again, anime-ism. It's just like me trying to convey the ethnicities of our various servants through their facial features, even though they all have the same anime faces.

But also, I can't remember if that line was in the LN or not. I don't think it matters, since the LN is also the source of Illya's weight conundrum (while the anime made the wise choice of cutting out that particular inner monologue) and we've already established that that makes no sense.

I'm thinking more along the lines of osteoporosis, except... whatever you'd call it for every part of her body, only kept alive because the parts that are formed operate on a level way above Human capacity (Einzbern Homunculi supposedly have a physical ability on par with low-end Servants). It is also said that Ilya had a lot of surgery done to make it so that the artificial command seals and artificial magic circuits she had in her would work, so this might also be the result of that.

From what I heard, in that scene, Iri and Kiritsugu are waxing a bunch of poetic about Ilya (in the eyes case it was about how Ilya was almost entirely a clone of Irisviel which she was in denial about), which is why I thought that Kiritsugu might be talking about Ilya metaphorically. Something I also want to bring up is that this was also a time in which Ilya barely came up to his knees, since I'm pretty sure the scene you're talking about takes place when she was eight years old, so she might just be smaller at that point.

It is also said that Ilya had a lot of surgery done to make it so that the artificial command seals and artificial magic circuits she had in her would work, so this might also be the result of that.
I still find it difficult - impossible - to believe that Illya could secretly be carrying twice her body weight inside of her without us ever getting a hint of that above the surface. Biologically, that's just not possible.

Maybe, but this is where things get dicey, because in true Nasu fashion, I have no idea how much, if any, Illya grew in those ten years. I was under the impression that she hadn't, that she was still the same height at nine that she was at nineteen.

Day 29 Chapter 7
[X] Plan: Smol Lady

You hear "Hey girls, how's it going?" Archer's voice at the door, as Kazumi opens it and lets him in. "I hope you all don't mind, but I brought an extra set of hands to help out."

Kazumi and Asami Saki look to each other, unsure whether or not to just allow Archer's hired help to enter. But the hired help takes matters into their own hands. "Is that one Homura?"

Archer nods his head as the hired help comes into view, and she smiles. It's a girl, no taller than you, with pale, silver hair and bright, cherry-red eyes. For a moment, you feel as though you're looking into a colour-inverted mirror of yourself, except the colour-inverted mirror is moving where you aren't. "Um… Archer, who is this?"

"My name is Illyasviel von Einzbern," the colour-inverted you says with a bow. Illyasviel von Einzbern? Then that means- "And I'm your aunt. Archer's told me all about you, Homura-chan."

You'd be on the floor if you didn't already know that this person existed. You still might as well be on the floor; while you know, objectively, that a person named Illyasviel von Einzbern is the biological daughter of Archer's adoptive father, and is thus your aunt, you'd never met her before until today. Her name had only ever come up a few times before, just enough to make you aware of her, but not enough to where you could internalise the fact that she exists. To say nothing of the image you had in your mind of what "Illyasviel von Einzbern" actually looked like.

Suffice it to say, this is not what you were expecting; and apparently, it isn't what the Saints were expecting, either. "That's your aunt?" you hear Asami Saki ask. You find yourself just as unsure as she is, but you wisely keep your mouth shut and don't give voice to your tactless opinions. "But she looks nothing like you! Or Archer! How can she be related to you in the slightest?"

"I'll have you know that I am in fact her aunt!" Illyasviel replies, placing her hand on her hips. "I'm her father's sister, so that makes me her aunt! What's it matter to you what I look like, huh? You think you're any better looking than I am?"

"No, that's not what I meant," Asami Saki says, taking several steps backwards from the smaller girl. "I don't care what you look like; I just… Well, I guess I was expecting Akemi's aunt to look… Well, more like her, I guess. You know, for there to be at least a little family resemblance. My aunt looks kind of like me, so I just thought-"

"Well, I am her aunt," Illyasviel says. "Even if I don't look like it."

"All right, you two, break it up," Archer says, stepping in-between Illyasviel and AsamI Saki. "Homura, I filled Illya in on what was going on around here, and she agreed to help out as long as she got to meet her nieces." For added emphasis, you see Illyasviel nod her head enthusiastically, as a wide grin spreads across her face. "I don't know what, exactly, you were planning for today, but I figured that the added firepower Illya and Berserker would bring to the table would be beneficial." You hear Archer's voice stall out, and he asks the question he should have asked in the first place; "So, what is your plan right now, exactly?"

"We were making plans to investigate the areas Hijiri Kanna identified as places where unhatched Evil Nuts might still be hiding," you respond. Turning to Illyasviel, you add "My team is heading down into the sewers. I… Guess you're welcome to come with us, if you thought you wouldn't mind the smell, or the… Sewer filth."

If she agrees to go with you, you'll fill Illyasviel in about the shrieking spider familiars. You don't need to scare her off right away before she's even committed herself.

Illyasviel looks to Archer, who responds with a look of his own. You've known your father for long enough to understand his meaning; "You've got to make the decision yourself." After several more seconds of consideration, Illyasviel says "I'd actually really like to go with you. It'd be a great chance for us to get to know each other. But if we're preparing for the possibility of combat, then I don't think I'd be a good fit for an adventure in the sewers. It'd be too easy for Berserker to bring the whole place down on our heads."

You nod your head. "I understand," you say. "I had Kazumi-" You gesture with your head towards the shorter girl standing beside Asami Saki, "-lead the team heading to check out the park for that very reason. She's got some pretty destructive magic, and I didn't want to risk her bringing the sewer down on anyone."

"I could tell," Illyasviel replies. She turns to a shocked Kazumi, and asks her "I don't mean to be rude, but you're an homunculus, aren't you?" Stunned and silent, Kazumi nods her head. "I could tell. You've got so much mana coming off you it'd be a real shock if you weren't." Illyasviel scrutinises Kazumi further, asking "How come your hair's black though? I've never seen an homunculus that didn't have white or off-white hair before."

"Illya, you can't just ask someone why their hair is black."

"I… Uh…" It takes Kazumi several attempts to speak over her failing tongue before she finally manages to say "I guess Niko just… Made me differently?" It doesn't sound like a very sure answer coming from her. "I only sort of know how I was made, but I'm guessing it's pretty different from how homunculuses are normally made."

Illyasviel cups her hand under her chin and continues to stare at Kazumi. "I don't know…" she says. "My family literally wrote the book on making homunculi, and I've still never encountered a method of making them that resulted in black hair before." Illyasviel's eyes rove across the base's open floor plan as she tries to single out her target, and she asks Kazumi "Which one is Niko? I'd like to talk to her about what she did to make you, if you don't mind."

"Um…" Kazumi points Kanna Niko out; she hasn't noticed that there's a whole to-do being made about her just a dozen meters or so away. "That one's Niko," she says. "Don't confuse her for the girl who looks the same as her but only has one arm. But… I don't know how willing she'll be to talk about what she did to make me. It's… Kind of personal, you know?"

Kanna Niko might not have noticed, but Matou Sakura does. Her eyes catch Illyasviel's, and the two of them wave to each other, as you catch the words "What are you doing here?" silently spoken on their lips. Matou Sakura gently nudges Kanna Niko, who looks up in the direction of her outstretched hand.

"Yeah, I get that," Illyasviel says to Kazumi. "I just thought, if she were willing to share her secrets, it might be the sort of breakthrough that alchemy's been sorely lacking for centuries. We've come up with dozens of different ways to make homunculi, but they always end up looking the same. So getting the chance to examine possibly the first homunculus to ever break that pattern would have been a great learning opportunity." Boy, is it contagious, or is rambling on about magecraft just a normal thing in Fuyuki? "But if she doesn't want to reveal her secrets, that's fine. I understand."

Archer clears his throat, calling the attentions of Illyasviel and Kazumi to him. "That's all well and good," he says, "But, Homura, you said we had a job to do, right?"

You nod your head, grateful to Archer for getting the conversation back on track. "Right," you say. "Um, Einzbern-san"

Almost immediately, you're interrupted. "Einzbern-san sounds too stuffy and formal. We're family; you should call me 'Auntie Illya' instead, shouldn't you?"

You hadn't even considered referring to Illyasviel in such personal terms before. Heck, it took you an entire month before you were comfortable referring to Minako as 'Mom', and now a person you've literally just met is asking you to call her 'Auntie'. It's too much. "Um, right. Aunt Illya, if you aren't comfortable deploying your servant in the sewers, then could I ask you to accompany Maki Kaoru and Kanna Niko on their patrol of the industrial area across the river? Their team isn't as powerful as either the sewer or the park teams, and I think you and your servant would go a long way if they ran into trouble."

"Sure!" Illyasviel – Aunt Illya – agrees to your proposal just a little too quickly. "We can always catch up after this is over. I don't mind helping out if you think there's a better place for my abilities to be helpful." You aren't afraid of insinuating that Aunt Illya only agreed so readily because it means a chance to speak with Kanna Niko about her homunculus-making abilities.

You aren't afraid of insinuating that, but in the interest of being polite, you won't.

"Who else is going with your group, then?"

"Archer, obviously, now that he's here," you say to Aunt Illya. "Matou Sakura and her servant, also. I know what the spiders we might run into in the sewers are like, and I know their greatest asset won't do much against Medusa." Sure, their screaming might take away her hearing, and the overpowering stench of Grief and sewage will rob her of her smell before long, but there's very little the spiders can do to take away her ability to sense movement through vibrations in the ground.

"I had also planned on taking Asami Saki with me-" You gesture to the girl in question, who despite being taller than you by almost an entire head's worth, tries her best to hide behind you as Aunt Illya's glare falls on her. "But, now that Archer is joining my team, I think I can afford to deploy her with Kazumi's team instead."

"So that means Saki's coming with us?" Wakaba Mirai asks. When you nod your head, she throws her arms around Asami Saki's waist, proclaiming "We're going to be working together, Saki! Isn't that just great?"

"Just make sure you're actually doing the mission, and not goofing off," Archer says. "I get that enough with Kirika; I'd expect you two, being older than her, can at least manage that level of maturity."

"Oh, don't be like that," Kazumi says to Archer. "I can keep Saki and Mirai in line." She says that, but as you and she both look on Asami Saki and Wakaba Mirai, you hear a subtle note of uncertainty in her voice., and in the back of your mind, you can imagine her adding a hesitant "Right?" to the end of her proclamation.

"Anyway, if that's all, then I think we should all get ready to head out," you say. To Aunt Illya, you add "Maki Kaoru and Misaki Umika should be out shortly. They'll be joining you and Kanna Niko; she's smart, but she doesn't handle responsibility well, so Maki Kaoru will be your team's leader." Low and under your breath, you add "Keep your eyes on Misaki Umika. She's dangerous."

With alll of that taken care of, it's time for your teams to move out. [ ] Wat do?

All right, and we're moving. It's Homura, Archer, Sakura, and Medusa, off to scour the sewers for Drekavac, hatched and not. Hopefully we make it back alive and are able to have a nice, long bonding session with our Aunt Illya afterwards. She did say she wanted to spoil us rotten to make up for all the birthdays she's missed.

So, let's try to stick the landing with some good conversation while we explore. There's got to be something we can talk to Sakura and Medusa about that we've glossed over in the past, and I'd really like the chance to let her shine, even if it's just for a few scenes before the big fight.

Unfortunately I am going to be out of vote-making because my brother had Covid and got my entire extended family on my mom's side sick, plus me and my dad. Blasting it with ibuprofen and tylenol, should be feeling better soon, hopefully. Might be here to help maybe on occasion, but I'm out of it because I've got a big headache and my whole body feels gross.

Sakura-wise, maybe we can get Medusa talking about her past before the whole monster transformation thing? Or maybe get Sakura talking about what she likes about Shirou (maybe try and guide her through a session about her relationship with him, either to allow her to let go, take a new angle on the situation, or maybe just reinvigorate her)? Dunno.

On a personal level, that sucks. Get better soon. On an impersonal level, that sucks, because when I had it it didn't hit me hard enough to make me break my schedule.

-[X] Try to talk to Sakura about your love woes with Madoka

I'm not sure I'm getting what you were talking about @PlaguePaladin, but here a plan from me to get the ball rolling on another round of voting.

Dunno what I'm saying either, lol

Did you somehow think you were saying something different than what you were saying? Because, while this might be difficult to actually approach talking about with a relative stranger, it's fairly straightforward in terms of direction.
I love the fact that this is the third thread for this beautiful mess of a quest.
I'm not sure if I should be honoured or insulted. I know the sequel has been a mess; I don't need it rubbed in my face any more than it already has been.

Honored. At least how I meant it. You've managed to get the feel of both Fate and Madoka right and while you have your mistakes honestly it is impressive you have managed to write this at all, let alone as good as it has been. Thank you.

Day 29 Chapter 8
[X] Plan Sewage Talk

Once again, you find yourself thick in the dark of the sewers under Mitakihara. You've readied your bow, but keep it close to your chest and without an arrow, in order to more easily manoeuvre it in the tunnels. That's probably not the wisest choice you could have made, but with Archer and his two short swords at the ready, as well as Matou Sakura and Medusa – Medusa especially, with each step she takes, her body is like a coiled piece of spring steel, ready to snap – encircling you, you think you'll be fine.

Matou Sakura guides your way, letting flickering balls of light illuminate the path in front of you. "The spirits are restless," she says, glancing her head back and forth. "I know I'd probably just be stating the obvious if I mentioned how evil this place felt, but…"

"But you can't help it," Archer says, finishing her sentence for her. "This place is so soaked in curses that it's supernatural."

It's a good thing you, Archer, and Assassin went through these tunnels when you did, because now their walls are draped in a thick curtain of black, strands of web spun from Grief lain by Sidonia's monstrous spider familiars. Had you not acted when you did, all this Grief would have seeped into the soil, and things would be even worse now for the citizens of Mitakihara than they already are.

You crinkle your nose as a foul stench washes over you; it isn't the smell of Grief, thankfully, just regular sewer garbage. It doesn't seem like you're deep enough into the tunnels for the miasma to be very thick. You would say that you breathe a sigh of relief at the thought, except your every breath is still made laborious by the Grief strung up on the walls regardless.

At least you can still breathe at all, you remind yourself, knowing that if a thick miasma of Grief were to roll in, you'd be on the ground choking in seconds.

"How do you do it?" you ask, walking up to Medusa's side. She turns her head towards you, but her eyes are already obscured by her blindfold, so you're forced to use the titch movements of her facial muscles to gauge her reaction. "You've got so much more sensitive… Uh, senses, than I do. How can you stand being down here when it smells so foul?"

"By not focusing on it." Medusa's face remains a blank stone mask; no way to gauge her thoughts as she speaks. "I was already prepared for this fight knowing I would be denied my senses of smell and hearing," she says. Ahead of her, Matou Sakura stops, and makes a motion with her hand for Medusa to do something. She leans her body so that her hand makes brief contact with the wall. It sizzles as her bare flesh comes into contact with strands of Grief, and she grimaces, but she holds her hand there as long as she needs to before she's able to say "This way is clear, for now. We can afford to let our guards drop for another… Three-hundred meters, or so. There's a bend in the tunnel after that where we should bring our guards back up."

You mouth a silent "Thank you" to Medusa, before Matou Sakura makes another motion with her hand, this time for you to join her at the front. "I'm sorry I was distracted talking to Hijiri-san earlier," she says, "Because there's actually something I had wanted to bring up with you earlier. It's about Twardowski's Mirror."

That book again: "What is it?" you ask. What did Matou Sakura find this time? "Did you find a way to stop Sidonia from performing her summonings?"

Matou Sakura shakes her head. "We're already doing all we can by keeping Twardowski's Mirror and the shard of Dáinsleif out of her hands," she says. "No, actually what I found is more to do with what else Sidonia would be able to accomplish using it. In addition to the diagrams I found that look like grandfather's notes on summoning servants, I found a number of diagrams that look like they're related to the binding of Elemental spirits. Sidonia only has access to Fire spells at the moment, correct?" You nod your head; short of her manipulation of curses, fire is the only other thing you've seen Sidonia use in mass quantities. "With Twardowski's Mirror, it's entirely possible that Sidonia might be able to bind to her will spirits of other Elemental alignments, like Water, Earth, or Wind, effectively giving her access to spells that use all four of the major Elements. What's more-"

You hear a noise echo in the distance. It sounds foreign, alien, not like the sounds the spiders usually make. Your body tenses up as you raise your guard, and Matou Sakura waits, several seconds, confirming that nothing is coming around the corner to attack you before continuing. "What's more, I found one diagram in particular that I'm concerned with."

"More so than the possibility of Sidonia summoning a servant?"

Matou Sakura shakes her head. "No, that's still the most concerning part of her interest in Twardowski's Mirror. But it's still concerned all the same." Illuminated by the light from her spirit-flames, Matou Sakura holds her two hands out, pointer fingers extended on each hand. "See, there are actually two schools of thought where spiritcraft is concerned; Eastern, and Western. Most of the Matou family's research is centered in the Western tradition, but there's still some decent information on Eastern tradition spiritcraft in our family library. Grandfather took an interest in comparing the two when he moved the family to Fuyuki, and he took very detailed notes on the differences. I'll spare you the long and complicated explanation, and only mention what's relevant to our discussion here. In Eastern spiritcraft, there's the idea of the Pentagram; mastery over spirits representing the five Chinese Elements, Water, Earth, Metal, Fire, and Wood."

Matou Sakura turns her head backwards towards Archer, asking him "You said that Tomoe-san's Element was Wood, correct?" Archer nods his head, and Matou Sakura turns back to you. "Tomoe-san's Element comes from the Eastern tradition, then."

"So… You found reference to an Eastern tradition spiritcraft technique in Twardowski's book?" you ask. "Why is that concerning? It's not unheard of for information to spread from one country to another; and besides that, didn't Twardowski write that book using knowledge he got from the Devil? Why would he care about mixing traditions?"

"You're right, it's not entirely unheard of for information from one culture to cross over to another," Matou Sakura says. "Even in the Western tradition, there's something similar; the idea of an "Average One" who is attuned to all five Elements exists in Western traditions of magecraft. Sister is an Average One, in fact. But the Pentagram goes even further than that. It isn't just attunement to all five Elements; it's a complete mastery over them. Domination, even; bending the elements to your will so completely that you can even change the alignments of Elemental spirits. Take these, for example."

Matou Sakura gestures to the tiny balls of spirit-fire illuminating your path. "These are Fire spirits. They're easy enough to make with some fuel and a bit of oxygen; that's just basic chemistry, and sister says it's the basis for Shizuki-san's transmutations." You nod your head, and Matou Sakura gestures to one in particular, motioning for you to take a closer look, where you see a tiny leaf, burning in the flame's center. "I can't take that leaf out; that's the fuel I'm using to anchor the Fire spirit to the oxygen around it. If I try, it'll just move to wherever I move the leaf. If I try to make a Fire spirit using just oxygen, with nothing else for the spirit to focus on or use as fuel, then I'd make a Wind spirit. A drop of water would get me a Water spirit, and some dirt or a small rock would get me an Earth spirit. But I couldn't change their Elemental affinity, no matter how hard I tried. Neither could Sister."

"But someone who had mastered the Pentagram could, right?"

Matou Sakura nods her head. "Someone who had mastered the Pentagram could take this little Fire spirit, and turn it into a Water spirit if they wanted to. Or an Earth spirit, or a spirit of Wood or Metal. The fact that something like the Pentagram, which doesn't really exist in Western traditions of spiritcraft, is sitting right there on the pages of Twardowski's Mirror, concerns me, because it means that not only could Sidonia have access to spells of any Elemental affinity she wished, but she could also change their Elemental affinity at will. She'd be hard enough to fight with access to more than just fire, but if she could change her spells' affinities at will…"

"So why not just destroy the book, then?" you ask. "If you're worried about how hard Sidonia will be to fight if she's able to master this 'Pentagram' through Twardowski's Mirror, then why not just destroy it? It'll be impossible for her to get her hands on that way."

Matou Sakura stares at you for several long seconds. "I understand your concerns, Akemi-san," she says. "Truly, I wish that were an option. It would make our lives so much easier. But as a mage and a scholar, I cannot in good conscience bring myself to destroy one of the most valuable tomes of spiritcraft ever known to mage-kind. So few were ever printed, and the copy you retrieved from Sidonia's workshop may very well be the only one left in existence. I've been working my way through it, and even I don't know just how much information about spiritcraft might be lost forever if I destroy it. I can't destroy it."

You aren't convinced. On principle, you can understand and even respect the argument Matou Sakura is making. But as you turn your head back towards Archer, and try to imagine Minako, all by herself and at the mercy of Sidonia's genocidal ambitions if you fail tomorrow – you cannot fail tomorrow – you find yourself disagreeing with Matou Sakura in practice.

But also, the fact that Matou Sakura went through all that effort to explain something she found while doing research for you, and explaining the risks of that discovery falling back into Sidonia's hands, makes you feel that much worse for not bringing anything of equal substance to the discussion. "So, um… I know this isn't really related, but…"

Again, you turn your head back towards Archer. You know Matou Sakura has been good about this so far, but you just want to make sure there isn't an possibility of trouble in the future. Not that you need any more trouble than you've already got. "How did you end up falling in love with your version of Emiya Shirou?"

"Because he was there for me when no one else was," Matou Sakura replies. "When I was younger, the Matou household was… Not a very nice place to be. It still isn't, but it's gotten better since I took over as the head of the house, but back then…" Matou Sakura shudders, and you recall in scant detail the things Archer told you about the Matou. "Senpai was friends with my brother, though, and one day, he hurt himself while he was working and needed someone to help him do things around the house. I… The more time I spent around him after that, the more I could feel myself falling for him…"

"Sometimes, he'd notice me. Other times, it was like he only had eyes for Sister or for Saber. I have memories of so many different iterations of that War, that I'm not even sure which ones were real or not. But the love I felt – that I still feel – for Senpai is real. It has to be."

So she's also like you; falling in love with the first person to show her compassion and friendship. You almost feel bad for her, knowing that her Emiya Shirou is in love with Tohsaka-san. "I'm sorry that you can't be with him," you say. "I know what it's like to love someone because they were the first person to give you a chance…" Madoka… You miss Madoka so much. It isn't enough to know that you and she can get back together after you've defeated Sidonia – your punishment notwithstanding – you want her now. You want to feel her touch, her warmth, her kisses, now.

"I know it's not much of a consolation," Archer says, approaching from the rear of the column to place a hand on Matou Sakura's shoulder. "But I was genuinely proud of that boy when he decided to set his ideals aside in order to save you. It's the reason I was willing to give up my arm for him, back then." There's a story Archer never told you before. "Does he still have my arm?"

Matou Sakura shakes her head. "No," she says. "He… Had? A puppet body that Aozaki made him, but now that everything's all screwed up from whatever Sister did to split the timeline the way she has, I think… I think Senpai has his own body again. I don't know." A sneer falls over Matou Sakura's face, and in a cold tone she adds "But I bet Sister would know. She'd know all about Senpai's body~ They haven't even seen each other in a whole year, too-!"

"Master-" Medusa shushes Matou Sakura, placing a hand on her shoulder. Immediately, Matou Sakura goes silent; so do you and Archer. "Something is coming. I can feel it."

And then a giant spider showed up.

[ ] Wat do?

And then a giant spider showed up. Sorry, that's a Kilian Experience reference. I'm heading out shortly and wanted to introduce the main thrust of the coming fight without needing to stick around. I'll make a proper introduction to it at the start of the next update.

Also sorry if Sakura's explanation is getting a little weird, but there's not a whole lot of in-canon examples of what spiritcraft is capable of, and what there is just makes me think "This sounds an awful lot like Shaman King". So that's what I did. The concept of the Pentagram in Eastern spiricraft is directly inspired by the abilities of the main antagonist of Shaman King (Wow, SVS making another Shaman King reference, who could have seen that?). If it sounds kind of overpowered... I mean, Sidonia is the final boss. She's got lots of tricks up her sleeve, and we have to figure out how to shut those tricks down, up to and including denying her critical resources. I figured it was more important to say "Hey, this is something she can do if she gets her book back" first, rather than spring it on us if she's able to take the book back tomorrow and we have no idea how to fight back. If it sounds like it just doesn't make a lick of sense, well, let me know how I can reword it or change it to make it make more sense.

Didn't have time to address Dmol's requested Madoka talk, but that's because Homura and Madoka are already planning on getting back together after this; her being grounded notwithstanding, obviously, so it didn't feel like it was that important when I had space I wanted to use for other things. I can put it on hold and have us ask about it when we're in a safe position, however, if we think there's something about it we should address.

[X] Plan: Gunk The Mouth, Shoot The Legs
-[X] First hit it in the mouth with an ice arrow to prevent it from screaming at you (because the mouth got ice in it), then focus on using your ice to shoot behind it and block off exits.
-[X] After that, focus on aiming for either the eyes or the joint areas. Mostly simple. Medusa and Archer in the front, if there's not a lot of space.

Oh good, just what we need. Sakura going Dark Sakura on us.
But what if it were? Imagine Dark Sakura actually fighting for our side. Who would win? Dark Sakura, powered by the unlimited dark mana from the corrupted Holy Grail, or Sidonia von Borchk, powered by the unlimited dark magic of Walpurgisnacht's Grief Seed.

Well, the physical manifestation of every single cursed abominable thought to come out of mankind poured into a girl with an incredible affinity for basically any spirit in existence, versus a god of persecution... close call, but I think I'll root for the former.

Actually, this makes me think of the fact that a UBW type Reality Marble might actually be really easy for Sakura if he told her how Archer managed to pull it off.

Well, yeah. Rooting for Sakura in this situation means Sidonia doesn't get to enact her genocidal plans. You'd be insane not to root for Sakura. But would it be worth it? Would letting loose the consequences of stuffing Sakura with All the World's Evils be worth it to defeat Sidonia?

You know, Reality Marbles are seeming pretty cheap right about now. We've got Archer, Scáthach with her Gate of Skye NP (even though it's actually a witch's labyrinth and not an actual Reality Marble, sue me), Ramesses with his temple, Sidonia with her blood obrez... Aren't these supposed to not be so common?

Honestly if we were that desperate to resort to that i think we would have lost the quest already

To be honest if we do that i say we raid the tohsaka family chest and get the kaleidosticks and try them first
Better than using evil grail juice to try to kill evil witch juice
Soeaking of which whats the status of those magical girl infinity sticks

Read too much dont be a tsundere to not think about them when i think of fate
