You've got Mail!: An Omake
Coil was pleased. Aperion had sent him a pet cat that he said would fit in with the place as a form of appeasement to maintain the neutrality between the gangs and the Undersiders. That was befitting that his power, having already ran in fear of him beforehand, would recognize the true threat Coil imposed. Though, a part of Coil wondered how Apeiron got his address to his secret base, or even how to send it to him at all.
Wouldn't stop him from causing mischief, but he could point fingers at the Teeth for the cause instead. That would be fine.
Said pet cat reminded him of another cat from the Celestial Forge, but that was impossible. It was just a cat, even if said cat also walked on two legs occasionally. That was fine. Perfectly normal, even!
Coil decided to take a nap, using his powers to split a timeline just in case something happened outside of the base.
Poor Coil had never considered that you never leave a cat unsupervised and not entertained. Especially a ParaCat.
Coil woke up refreshed, and stretched, grinning. That nap had been worth taking. He did frown a bit, noting that his cat was nowhere to be seen. Ah well. Perhaps a guard of his own had let the cat out to explore the base. Surely nothing would have gone wrong in the short nap he had taken. It hadn't even been twenty minutes, he reasoned.
His phone was suspiciously silent, and broken. He scowled. The cat definitely needed to be house-broken if the cat had destroyed his phone by accident by knocking it off his desk. His computer was surprisingly left alone. He nodded with satisfaction. At least he hadn't broken his computer.
Leaving the door to the rest of his base, he frowned. The door to the basement was ajar. He sighed. Good help was so hard to find, but Noelle had stayed in there to keep from hurting other people, and he did send the occasional orphan or nuisance when needed to satisfy the beast.
He paused. Did his cat end up in there? He split a timeline and one of him stayed put while the other ran into the door to the basement sector.
He immediately ended the timeline when he noticed his cat was licking his paw near the entrance to the door. He sighed as he went to get his cat away from the basement sector. "Silly thing, you could've gotten hurt!" He scolded him lightly. The cat gave a brief huff, it's eyes glinting with amusement. Cats, he sighed, ever the prideful animal.
He let him jump out of his arms and seemed to blur away from the door at a faster speed than he expected, but Coil was confident that the cat was simply the best of it's kind. Apeiron wouldn't want to suffer his wrath after all. He closed the basement door and locked it again while using his personal master pin and fingerprint.
Once again splitting the timeline, thankfully he always had a spare phone on him at all times, he had one call the guard master of arms to check on the outside of the base.
No answer. He huffed. Seriously, what did it take to get good help around here!
He didn't bother calling Tattletale. His power worked fine, but the wench's power was trumped by March's which was still in effect. He sighed and turned off his phone. Not much point calling anyone else at this point. He had already pulled the strings to get the Travellers into town anyhow. Not that he intended to ever cure Noelle. An S-class threat at his disposal? Why would he ever want to let go of it, let alone cure it?! Preposterous.
He went through the base, scowling as none of the cameras were moving, none of the guards were there. It was like everyone up and vanished! "Seriously, what do I pay these imbeciles for?" He grumbled.
He went to go check on the cameras and the master security room. He might as well. He turned and strolled back into his office and then entered multiple passwords, audio recording system checks, a fingerprint check, and a mind-scan to check he wasn't being Mastered. He paid a premium to the ToyBox to get it, after all.
Entering the room, he blinked as he saw his cat sitting on the chair, purring as it slept. "Cute, but now how am I supposed to sit there to check on the cameras and video logs?" He muttered. Splitting timelines was useless and he wouldn't dare move his cat. No cat owner would ever dare!
He turned and left, closing the emergency security system doors and resealing the passwords. Cats always found the best hiding spots to nap in, he found himself pouting. Now he needed to invest in a whole new security theater because his cat claimed it!
The power suddenly went out, and Coil had to resist the urge to scream in outrage. What was the point in paying these idiots!
Forty-six, yes, Coil counted, hours later outside the base, and paying multiple premiums to keep the electricians quiet, the result was that apparently the guards had failed to do the basic job of maintaining the generators. Coil had to keep his temper down by splitting multiple timelines to personally torture the people he hired in order to calm down, but even that was barely successful.
Going to his computer, he screamed in fury as the boot up system, along with everything attached to his computer files and accounts, were gone! "FUCK!" Coil roared aloud. He kicked the desk in protest and screamed again in pain as he stubbed his toe.
Wait. His pet. No! The meds would have worn off! He ran as fast as he could, and nearly tore the door open as he rushed to see an empty medical bed.
He screamed himself hoarse in no less than ten different timelines and went to go find his cat. At least, even if he was now temporarily poor, homeless, with no guards and security systems aside from Noelle, he still had him.
The door to the basement was ajar wide open and Coil felt his blood freezing as he ran, not even bothering with timelines anymore.
Noelle was dead, her body torn apart and burned, bits of flesh scattering the containment unit with the huge vault door open, as if torn open from the inside. Scratches covered the inside of the door that were at his feet height.
His cat had been trapped with Noelle, and Noelle killed him. And then Noelle had died from touching the exposed wires to the generators as he saw the sparks of wires exposed on the ceiling of the containment unit. Now, Coil, no, Thomas Calvert had nothing. No one. He couldn't ask Apeiron to make him another cat, because it wouldn't be his cat.
A single sound of a bullet firing echoed the chamber before the containment unit went silent with the slump of a dead body.
Back in the Celestial Forge, Joe was staring at Tybalt with horror. "You did what?!" Tybalt meowed again with satisfaction as the huge shadowy form of Noelle flailed wildly and silently, her face contorted in silent rage and hatred under the command of her new master. Joe needed to sit down. "This was supposed to be a prank, Tybalt." Joe moaned. "A simple knocking off some coffee cups or peeing on his computer. What were you thinking?" He sighed.
"Th-thank you for saving me." A girl's voice said hoarsely behind him and Joe turned to see Dinah Alcott hugging Tybalt softly and crying.
"Never mind. He earned it." Joe said woodenly. 'Can I kill Coil a second time?'
End Omake.
